  1. The question of the wedding scene and Robb's faith per Elio at Westeros.org

    Quote:
Robb and Talisa: The wedding between Robb and Talisa is never depicted. Weirdly, they made it a marriage ceremony of the Faith. While all the Stark children were raised with both faiths, it’s clear some favor one over the other, and it’s very clear that Robb takes more to the old gods. Why they did not use that here, I do not know; it’s not as if Talisa worships the Seven, being from Volantis.
And if you don't know who Elio is, GRRM will call him to ask questions about characters if he can't remember little details like eye color. He and partner Linda are helping George write the Encylopedia of the series. So I'll yield to his answer here.
  2. It is good to see the extras for Walking Dead getting work in the offseason.

I don't think that's true, Mental. If I remember correctly many castles south of the neck still have their weirwoods trees and Godswoods. Riverrun still has theirs if I remember correctly (Cat and a group of northmen go to pray) and there was something about the Eyries I'm trying to remember.

Edit- Ok after further research it seems that what you are thinking of Mental is that there is only one place south of the neck where weirwoods grow. Most castles have godswoods, but they are usually other types of trees and are for more decorative reasons.
  4. If Talisa was from the West Lands, I'd say sure. But are people from Volantis followers of the Seven?

(I don't feel super strong, etc. But hey a topic for discussion is fun!)
(And yeah, it was Karstark that threw me more than Robb, given his mothers religions, etc.)

Edit- looking at wiki's, etc. it seems Volantis is home to many religions, Lord of Light being the most noted because of it's large temple. So I guess it's possible she was a follower of the Seven.
  5. I don't remember exactly from the books but were the Stark kids brought up under the Seven (I know they had a sept in Winterfell for Cat) or the old gods? Or was last nights wedding ceramony a mistake by the production team? I'm not getting all purist-y about it, just something I found weird, unless I missed that about the children. Even so, wouldn't the King in the North do it for the old gods regardless?

(The only one I know for sure was Jon Snow worshipping the old gods)
  6. Also, it was interesting they left a lot of the prophecy out of the House of the Undying (especially pertaining to the red wedding). I think that the image seen in the books would probably give it away much too easy in a visual medium like TV.

What is really interesting is her vision walking at the wall. I don't remember if that was in the book, but the fact it was included I think is pretty telling and possibly at least some kind of indication that she will end up at the wall in the future. (Which makes sense)
  7. Seeing how large scale the group of Others and Wights were, I kind of wonder if we'll still get the mutiny or if the Mormont will just perish in the fight on the Fist. If I remember correctly it wasn't that overwhelming of a group. (But I'm not complaining because it was an awesome final image for the season.)

Also, yay! for Jason Mamoa getting to reprise Khal Drogo although briefly. I know he was happy to be back.
  8. The final scene was pretty neat. I was half hoping we'd get to see Sam the Slayer, but I guess that will come at the beginning of Season 3.
  9. Exactly. I think if not for that "previously on" it would have seemed like they just turned tail and ran.

I knew Dany's experience inside the House of the Undying would be different, but killing Xaro Xhoan Daxos? Who's in charge of Quarth now?
Well technically she didn't kill him and my money is on him getting out of it somehow. Given that the vault wasn't really protecting anything, my guess is it's not as invulnerable as he made it out to be. I expect we'll see him again in the slave cities where he tries bribing her with a fleet of ships like the books.

The sack makes sense in the TV world given how they haven't introduced Ramsay yet. My guess is if they had it more like the books it may tip off the Bolton's betrayal too early or just confuse non reader fans. That said I'm a bit disappointed in how they did it. Bonking Theon upside the head "cause they wanted to go home" doesn't seem very Ironborn to me. My guess is we'll see next season that his men conspired with Ramsay's men (ala Robb's promise) that they could go home as long as they gave up Theon and we'll see Ramsay outside Winterfell with Theon in-a-sack ready for his "Reeking". My guess is the @#@&$%#@$&ing horn blowing was all communication with Dagmar and the others.
  11. Almost 11 minutes of slaps and the little **** still deserves more.
  12. Yeah, the Mountain has been all over this season. Not only did they change actors (but a very good match) they changed his armor and put him in Lannister gear. He's the one that picks the people to be questioned/tortured that makes Hot Pie pee himself. He's also in quite a few Tywin scenes. Without his helmet from season 1 he just looks like a tall Lannister man.
  13. I'm still wrapping my head around the hybrid powers. What are the +specials in the support tree? It doesn't read well in the description tab.
  14. Since I originally linked this in the spoiler section and many of you don't go there. I present to you:

Arya Stark takes the cinnamon challenge.

Silly Starks trying to be brave.
Even highborn children do stupid things.
  15. This latest discussion made me think of a topic.

Minor characters- who do you think is vital to the story playing out? These are characters that must be included in the TV show for the story to work but who aren't POV or major characters. Who do you think are just window dressing (even if you think they are important)? Who can be condensed or combined? Who absolutely can not?

example- the Reeds are minor characters. Robb even though a non POV character is a major character. Dany is obviously a major character. Daario is a minor character.

    And. Go.

There was speculation that they would spare Maester Luwin and have him go with Bran and Hodor and have Osha with Rickon. He could use his Maester knowledge of magic (which he does mention his ring for studying it) to explain things. But note I said "kind of surprised". I'd hoped they would introduce the Reeds in 3. And after watching the (almost) full perspective of Season 2 it makes sense to introduce them in 3 anyway as there was just so much going on in 2.

I don't doubt the importance of the Reeds, but also recognize that what knowledge they impart about things could be done in other cost effective ways for television (i.e. another cast member). Now that isn't saying I think it should be done that way, just that it could be. If you look back at previous posts you'll see where I talk about the Reeds. While I don't think the kids are uber important in the grand scheme of things, they are important for exposition and some important insight into Bran's gifts (again something many characters can do). But where I do think the Reeds are important is not what they know, but what their father may know. He is the only person alive that was at the Tower of Joy when Ned went to rescue Lyanna. I believe we'll finally see him in the books and what he'll have to say will be very important to the rest of the story.

And word is he is the sweetest person and the total opposite of the character. Also he's retiring from acting after GoT is over and going out into the civilian world.
  18. And Stannis' skull cap removal of an opposing soldier was nice as well.

I screamed out Podrick! when that happened.

With no spoilers to the non readers, they have put out a new cast list for next season and based on what we've seen so far I think you can expect more awesome coming next year. Some great characters are added to the cast. Can't wait.

Expanding the conversation a bit. This was a breakout episode to really capture just how horrible Cersei and Joffrey (especially compared to their counterparts) are as people. And while Cersei will give reasons for her behavior (protecting her children, etc.) Joffrey is one of the few characters that has zero redeeming qualities. And in a world where characters float somewhere in the most gray of areas its nice to have someone that you can just hate because they are evil.

Isn't Edmure Tully Caitlin's not that much younger brother? They make it sound like he's Robb's age.

I also heard they've had readings for Vargo Hoat. They may be losing the lisp.
Yes, I saw one of the video's of an actor reading for Vargo. Most likely they just sent the scene and didn't specify on the lisp.
  21. Well you could do the red wedding with Edmure just as a stand in and be told it's Robbs uncle/family marrying a Frey, but it lacks the depth and flavor.

Like you though, I'm glad they'll be exploring the Riverlands a bit afterall.

Here's the full list for anyone unable to go to the link:

•Mance Rayder: We’ve heard about him all season. A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings.
•Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.
•Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.
•Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.
•Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Catelyn Stark’s uncle.
•Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon’s wife.
    •Shireen: Stannis’ daughter.
•Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell’s sharp-witted grandmother.
•Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group Brotherhood Without Banners.
•Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.
    •Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider
  22. Woohoo!

    Not surprised about Shireen.
Kind of surprised (pleasantly) about the Reeds.
Edmure and the Blackfish very surprised. I thought they'd just decided to ditch the Tully's.

And can't wait for Thoros and Beric.

    Nice!!!
  23. I really wanted to like this but I have to admit it, the first hour kind of bored me and lost me. I ended up channel surfing during the second hour.

I have heard that maybe it was too "romantic" of a scene with an actress that is clearly underage at this point and would have been more creepy than effective. Romantic in quotes as he holds a knife to her throat while she sings. I think some viewers would be put off. They got the point of the scene across without making it icky.

(Not necessarily my opinion on the matter, though)

My guess, George wrote it, but something had to be cut and like I said the scene played out the important points.
