Crappy Overview on Stalkers by Baltabarin
[/ QUOTE ]
Needs improvement. I would reccomend to noone. -
Lol, you mean like the guy I saw in SC that was jumping directly vertical thinking that would save him from being ASed?
-
Lol. Fire tanks and brutes that let themselves get ASed are going to die very, very quickly against my EM/Nin >.> But most of the time, good pvpers know how to avoid that.

After numerous PMs, I figure I should address this.
First, we know about this. It was noted as happening during Beta. At that time, we decided to watch the PvP data and see if it proved a problem. Stalkers are not doing poorly in PvP at any level range.
Second, I discussed this with our QA and programmer and have filed it as a bug. It is low priority, however, since Stalkers are still the best in PvP according to our data. As such, there is no ETA for a fix.
Third, there is a workaround for this issue. I'm certain you all can figure out what it is, if you don't already know.
Just to reiterate on Placates mechanics:
Placate, the power has two portions: Placate (the effect) and a Hide equivalent.
Any attack or effect on the original target will break the Placate, but not the hide -- only a new attack on any target breaks that.
In PvE, we've made the AI ignore Effects when placated, so the AI still ignores you (most of the time.)
Placate is a tool. It is a powerful tool, but it has limitations. Learning those limitations and how to work around them is a large part of gameplay for Stalkers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Since its set at a low priority, any ideas to when it will be fixed?
[/ QUOTE ]
Low priority means pretty much never. -
Meh. I dunno. Needs a bit more work and variance, and some of the powers need to be altered to make it balanced.
-
1) 50/50
2) 90/10*
3) 10/90*
4) 50/50
ToHit/Defense
I'm saying this mostly from a stalker's standpoint-- blasters, scrappers, and tankers can all usually two-shot my character when they use buildup or aim, if they hit me twice in a row before my heal goes off. An SR stalker versus an SR scrapper should be a long fight full of evades, dodges, and misses, until one of them lands the fateful lucky hits. -
[ QUOTE ]
It'd be just like using Nova, then Force of Nature right after, but more flashier.
[/ QUOTE ]
So then on an energy blaster you could just hit another blue afterwords, and then hit nova, hit another blue, and then hit force of nature, giving yourself not one, but TWO uber attack-defense setups. -
My opinion? when I stop laughing at how overpowered that would be, I'll tell you...
-
I'd love this idea, just to play around with. mm... customized attack...
The list would be like this:
Punch attacks
Weapon Attacks
Ranged Attacks
At least, that'd make it easier to find what you want. -
Are you kidding me? Vazhilok misisons, even at low levels, depend more on what kind of damage you do for how easy they are, and the storyline behind them can actually be quite interesting regardless-- which is the more important part.
[ QUOTE ]
Inventions will be less optional though, because it's a change that winds through the whole system. You -will- pop invention loot. Worse come to worse, I suppose you close your eyes and delete it all. But I think the design will skew it towards at least using the CH to get rid of it for influence for SOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
So in otherwords, it'll benefit those that don't want anything to do with IOs anyway, or at least not effect them at all :P But really, some people will always object to change, because they aren't looking at "how will this benefit me". Or even "how will this benefit me without changing the way I play too much" if they're one of THOSE people.
I hope it won't change the community too much, as well. CoX tends to produce a community that's fairly friendly to newbies... -
[ QUOTE ]
So why'd you start with a hobbit? And why did you choose to do that quest?
[/ QUOTE ]
So in otherwords, I should skip an entire race?
If we had an Archetype in the game (closest we have to races here) that always had boring missions compared to the other ATs, would you say that's bad by design?
I've never played the game. I've not found a good reason TO play it. Why bother spending 50 something dollars on a game that sounds like... well.. any other fantasy MMO out there?
I can get that for free, thank ya very much. -

*YAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN*
Are we done yet, or do we need to go on? I enjoy CoH/CoV. I've come back to it so many times now. I may be back again, who knows? What I do know is a lot of you don't like this new MMO a.k.a. LotRO.
I'm sorry that the game just doesn't hold much fun for you all. Me, I'm having a blast. So for those of you staying, enjoy the grind to 50!!
[/ QUOTE ]
CoH has a grind? I must have missed it. (^_^)
Seriously, It's only a grind if you aren't having fun doing it. If you are having fun, how is it a grind? On my way to 50 I've done every story arc I could, participated in a few hami raids, helped SG mates with task/strike forces, roleplayed in Atlas / Port Oaks, caused a little mayhem, went badge hunting, owned and got owned in Siren's Call, and fussed endlessly about my various costumes at Icon. I was frankly too busy to notice any grind.
[/ QUOTE ]
.... the same can't be said for the other game, however. Delivering pies and being a mailman isn't my idea of a good time. -
The problem is that the author of these rants is posting with a limited budget-- much like myself. It's not just a discusson of how long to keep a subscription alongside CoX, but rather, wether or not it would be worth it to cancel CoX and play the other game instead for a while.
It's probably a decent game as far as the average MMO out there goes. However, I'd rather play Guild Wars, Rappelz, or Corum, or one of the many other decent fantasy MMOs that are free off monthly charges, until I find a game that promises to be fun enough that I can justify canceling my subscription to CoX. -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually - I consider it a little different. You visit Icon and do a mission to gain a second alternate costume. If I just want to 'dye' my armor/whatever in COH, I just visit Icon, and 'maybe' pay a fee (if I have no free tokens). No mission needed, no gathering items, no collecting/trading/whatever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Precisely. It's nothingl ike gathering a bunch of materials to edit your character's looks.
NEVERMIND the fact that you can customize your look AT CREATION to the point that no other MMO has yet to mimick.
[ QUOTE ]
Fast Travel = Trams
[/ QUOTE ]
Trams = Free regardless, thus Trams > Fast Travel
Nitpicky perhaps, but important regardless.
[ QUOTE ]
CoH/V and the Unnamed MMO *ARE* very much alike.
[/ QUOTE ]
You act as if it isn't going to be obvious that there are similarities between two games of the same genre? No [censored], really?
But who cares about that? The OP made the statement that the game has nothing that's different that's good to pull people away from this one. I can find tons of similarities between Michael Jordan and Bil Gates. However, what they can do is vastly different regardless. And to make that analogy is giving the Unnamed MMO far more credit than it seems to deserve.
[ QUOTE ]
Sure, we don't have personal travel powers at the low end in the Unnamed MMO, but we have access to "tram" travel as well as can either run or hoof it to the next town/zone. Even with some of the travel powers in CoH/V, it can still take a few minutes to get from the tram / zone entrance to the mission door. It's no different than CoH/V.
[/ QUOTE ]
So basicly you're saying that CoX actually has larger areas and more exploring to do... oh good, another reason not to play that gameJokes aside...
[ QUOTE ]
Plus as I mentioned, there are teleport skills available but not in the early portion of the game. When I say teleport, I mean Across Zone(s) teleport such as going from Zone 1 to Zone 4 because the skill is Return to Zone 4. The CoH/V analogue would be the Pocket D Teleporter... it teleports you to Pocket D from where ever you are currently at. One class in the unnamed MMO gets 4 or 5 of those plus one that recalls the user to the closest respawn point (For CoH, it'd be a recall to hospital).
[/ QUOTE ]
And this makes it far different than you want to admit. Base portals for established groups means that you can go from one zone to any other zone that you've earned-- and not just you, anyone in the group. And these aren't too difficult to earn, either. Once earned, these portals are available to all the people in the group regardless of level (except level restricted zones, which are in a minority in CoH and don't exist in CoV).
Hell, CoV introduced customizable bases. You pick from a large number of styles for every section of the base, and you customize the floor levels, you put any of an insane number of decorations. You can put in chaingun turrets or explosive runes, storage for enhancements (further making them far different from traits in that they can be traded), inspirations, salvage. You can add in teleporters, but regardless of what you do, you can make the base your own base. you can make it look dark and gloomy, evil, magijcal, make the air look poisoned and green. You can make it an inconspicuous office complex or a set of old ruins where ancient ley magical lines meet.
Something which can't be done, in the Unnamed Game as of right now.
[ QUOTE ]
I simply took umbrage at the OP's starting post on this thread because it's a one sided diatribe on how X game is bad and horrific while those very same attributes are perfect here even when they are done the same way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then obviously you didn't actually READ the post in question.
He complained that you didn't fight battles against REAL foes in the unnamed game until later in the game. This is completely unlike CoX-- on both sides. First mission I got as a natural scrapper going to atlas was fighting hellions, demon-worshipping traffickers of magical items whom are in an eternal war with the drug-trafficking Skulls, a death-worshipping gang. On the villain side, you fight snake people that stand up nearly eight feet tall with a tail nearly that long, wielding swords, claws, and vicious poisonous fangs.
He complained about hard to find objectives and bad directions from the quest givers. While there are some times that I've had a problem finding glowies, it's because I skipped over areas-- the maps in CoX are fairly easy to navigate and objectives relatively easy to find-- most of the time you don't really even need to search.
He complained about taking turns to do missions. No way NEAR what CoX does. Even with the new Abyss and Hive, you won't be taking turns at it.
he talks about sudden spawns of ambushes out of nowhere-- once again, this doesn't happen. Ambushes from CoH come running into the room from a different tone, rather than spawning into the room itself. You always hear a warning, and that gives you a bit more time to prepare (Even if it's not always enough).
Quite frankly, I wonder if you even know what the hell you're talking about, if you think that the problems he pointed out are in CoX. Have you REALLY played the other game, or this one for that matter... or did you just not read the post before you misjudged it? -
I couldn't give a damn what the devs think about me. Or anyone really. I sometimes go around ganking badge-hunters and squishies in siren's call with my stalker when there's no scrappers around to pwn, just for kicks. I'm one of the people that are pointed at for ruining PvP in CoX :P
That said, you'd love them to introduce more innovation-- but innovation takes time and effort to translate into code. They're taking longer than they want, and to me it's obvious that they're (they being the devs) frustrated with having to push back the various content that they want to add in. But the fact is, they are getting content.
Wanna know why CoV was focused on? Cause CoV was the new game which needed the content, needed the attention. And now that they've given that attention, hey are starting to focus on CoX as a whole. Perhaps they're being slower than you'd like.
I have no answer for that, other than get a grip on your patience. Good things DO come to those who wait. and if you get bored, cut off your subscription temporarilly, until something new is released,a nd then you can resubscribe and see if that reinvigorates your experience. -
CoX isn't perfect, but what is? I don't actually get any crashes anymore after changing my NVidia card to a Radeon. I've crashed possibly once while playing CoX since, and that was my computer more than the game, which probably mirrors other people's experiences.
[ QUOTE ]
I like that shiny new mmo. It's fun and has an epic feel. That's the one thing CoH doesn't have for me anymore. The epic feel. AVs aren't so imposing after 3 years and I never really feel like I'm saving Paragon City, just a few of it's citizens at time.
[/ QUOTE ]
So it just means you're getting tired of the game after so long. Maybe it's time for you to move on, but the reason that the newer game feels epic is because... it's new. For the majority of people I know, after the newness wore off, they went back to CoX.
[ QUOTE ]
I love CoH but the problem with it is that they simply put a comic book wrapper around some of the same old standards.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? Have you even played some of the old "standards" games? Camping spawns is not my idea of fun, and we don't do that here.
When my stalker defeated Sstheno a little bit ago, I got excited-- I just killed an incarnate goddess of snakes. Further back, I defeated an alternate dimension's Lord Recluse, lord of Arachnos. I practicly bragged about soloing him on Relentless. Further back, I defeated various heroes time and time again. The 10th time you fight Manticore can never be as good as the 1st. The 20th time you defeat Verandi and Marcone just isn't the same. Though they could do some things to rectify the situation, it's not entirelly at the fault of the devs, but moreso at the fault of fickle tastes and the amount of time you spend in the game.
I got burnt out after spending 14 hours a day on CoX every weekend for several weeks straight. I took a break, then came back and CoH was fun again. Eventually, I'll just get bored and go somewhere else. That CoX has lasted you three years says volumes compared to other games-- especially console games, which promise usually ~40 hours of gameplay, with some replayability that just doesn't match CoX-- it definitely says good things about the game. And with MMOs, given the amount of alternatives and competition, especially from bigger companies like Blizz and Sony, CoX is doing a phenomenal job.
Right off the bat we are fighting gangsters. Then evil mages and indless robots. Alien invaders and supervillains from alternate dimensions. Secret organizations and ultra-skilled mercenaries. Mutants, and scientific experiments.
Sure, they can improve how it's done, but they have to worry about improving in ways that don't make the game unfun for alot of people. The game is relatively stable, the servers are EXTREMELY stable, the ATs are relatively balanced, the concept is fun, and et cetera. And all the changes they make have a chance to ruin what they've already accomplished, no matter how well-intentioned.
And there's my rant. I should stop typing these things when I'm tired :P
