The AE is a direct representation of human nature and how people in society are.
Some will try to break it and find exploits.
Of those: some will report it because they feel like that is the right thing to do
and some will take advantage of them because they feel like it is ok and justifiable
Some will make missions and enjoy it
Of those: some will make for pure pleasure and arts sake and some will make for ways to get to the end faster, bypassing the experience.
Some will say ditch the xp system and make it worthless
If that happened: The artsy ones get upset, some ragequit, some dont care, and no one really wins.
My solution? Patch the holes as you find them. Try and let as many people who want to experience it do so. Always seek to do for the greater good in all things. If it doesnt directly effect your play experience, try not to let it bother you.
My other solution? Put out rewards of some sort for people who find exploits and issues.
Maybe a free respec, a recipe, some inf, a badge..IDK
Encourage people to report issues and offer bounties for those who can break thier system.
By doing this, your replicating what already works well in the IT sector and your giving people a reason to do the right thing. I know some folks dont need that reason, but it at least gives them a nice shiny for doing so.
(In before "bug hunter" badge and any other flames and how could/dare you's.) -
Well, I blew some money trying to craft and sell lvl 45 damage IO's. Boy was that a waste. For a flipper, its good money now. For the sell it for 1 inf guy...Someone made a killing buying them for 15K...and I should have known better.
I am sitting at about 330 mil which I put in my email bank account and now I am back to a few thousand. I know I can easily make a 100 mil a day no matter which map or mission I use, as long as i can max out tickets.
I do know that this is more profitable than standard dev content farming, but the chance of getting that random purple probably helps that average, and helps the market - which is why I did this to begin with.
I may even hold a CC or something for the procedes of all of this, just to show that inf means nothing to me and just to be a cheerful giver. Keep tuned in! -
Well, silver rolls netted me some big chunks of change. especially performance shifter @ 9 mil per. I am liking the 40-44 rolls for silver better as it cuts out all the crap rares in lvl 35 sets. I rolled a ton of lvl 30 bronze and still no uniques. I got to the point where I gave away alot of recipes.
Here is the latest:
I tried rolling all lvl 41-50 common arcane salvage thinking money is there...well, not so much. I made maybe a mil off of 1500 tickets worth of random commons. I just think the price simply isnt worth it. If you wanna craft what you get, i think your getting good money, as the prices are 8 for common and 80 tickets for uncommon.
More to come as I try all sorts of ways of selling things for 1 inf. While every post costs me 5 inf, which is great, they really get me on the back end :-) -
Well, on average, any doctored wounds recipe sells for 5 -7 mil.
Reactive armor and doctored wounds can net me 10 mil easy....even recipes for those lvl 50's that are lvl 30 do well. THAT is one reason people turn off xp and run TF's....have you seen some of those prices? Seeing how people who love the game love to exemp down, and a lvl 30-35 IO is about the same as a lvl 50 SO..it makes sence. The may also explain why some of my lvl 50 recipes just do not sell well.
ALSO, I have not said what missions I have ran or anything. I am not about to list anything like that, BUT I have PM'd a dev in the past on things I found. With the patch coming very soon, it will all go away and something new will take its place. I have found legit ambush based farms that do the same thing. Besides, there is always battle maiden and demons, and those are actual content.
Today, I will roll lvl 40 and above silver and lvl 30 and below bronze. I am hoping to snag a few of those KB uniques and flood the market with them. I may save up a few runs and even roll a gold, but honestly the risk/reward for this on ANY gold roll just isnt worth it.
So far, well placed bronze rolls are where it is at. Silver has its spots, but once you dip too low in level, your wasting your time.
Also, salvage for this is not worth it. HOWEVER, with the recent SPIKE in some random uncommon and common salvage and the cheap cost to buy it...there definetly is money there. This will not always be the case, but when I made 200K for selling 3 crappy commons, i was like whoa!
It is important to understand that market results have ALOT to do with the often unique things: Fad of the month builds, AE exploits, What lvl you sell the IO's, and such. There will always be money to be made however you want to make it, but predicting how is like a shot in the dark. I can safely bet lvl 50's will always be wanted...and especially with high end content coming, you can bet they will have a place as well.
Time to go run myself into oblivion and find todays sweet spot. -
I ran a few runs and tryed a mix of silver and bronze at lvl 30-34. Not much luck until I got a performance shifter and another kinetic combat. I got so tired of deleting recipe's that i just started handing them out to anyone i was nearby. I may not be done playing, but i am done farming for day one. I am not sure when day 2 will be. What's crazy is that i am sabotaging myself by posting screenshots..lol
Not bad for a casual vet who doesnt farm....over 200 mil easy. It just proves people will pay anything i guess. I could have played the field and flipped and so forth, but I am too lazy for that. With that other 100 mil in the bank, i am a third of the way from having a great "buy it nao" build for just about any toon!
Oh, and go hogs! we beat LSU!!! -
Here is your answer. I am better off hoping for a kinetic combat, a doctored wounds, or a unique IO...or something of the like. I know what will sell immediately and what wont. in the past, I would price the better IO's to eliminate those "sold for 100 inf" undercut bids.
here is a sampling after two farm runs:
and
I may ball up and run a all day farm spree just to see what 20 random rares priced at 1 inf would sale for....I have a feeling that would suck "monkey" balls -
You know, I don't know...but just for the heck of it, ill do one round of the same thing with high level random rare salvage, sell it for the same, and watch what happens. for those following along, That 7 million was from my first sale of all silver 35-39 rolls. the other 30 or so million was from farm profits running them at a high level (+3/8).
I know it seemed I went from 7 to 44 to 100 fast, and i took everything out of my bank account except what i started with (i had a spare 108 mil from my alt's combined efforts and 2 purple sales)
off to give the rare salvage a whirl!!! -
well, i said the heck with it, and ran one more round. made the 100 million mark fairly easy. I assume that if i kept at this i could make a billion in 7-10 days of good farming, which is good for me, but probably slow for everyone else. I hope you all see that if you complain about not having money, there are ways to aquire it. this way sucks, but it works!
-
I think i am done farming for today as it is boring and too easy. I rolled a few more 20 packs lvl 35-39 bronze and 40-44. I even grabed a few silvers of the same level and as you can guess, listed them all for 1 inf.
I had to delete a ton of sniper, fear, and sleep recipes to keep my bays open. those never sell well for me anyway. Here is where I stand after about 2 hours work (84 mil so far):
-
I sold all but 13 and made only 7.1 million.
I made a few mil on my runs which I put in my "email bank account" so all together 44.1 million.
I did mainly lvl 35-39 silver rolls with a few off rolls here and there.
Based on my experiance, the same level bronze rolls tend to be just a profitable if not more, but these silver rolls do great if crafted...and I hate crafting.
I have a feeling as this thread gets longer ill see alot more sells for 5. If that happens i will of course re-evaluate :-) -
In this thread, I am going to do just a little experiement...I'll start with 0 inf and see how long it takes me to get to 100 million, 500 million, and then 1 billion. I do have alot of field time coming up here and there, plus I have alt's and a few kids to deal with...I will list as much information as I can.
-
I want a toon that gives me the most possible KB, do I need to pick a energy/mental or is there something else?
-
Extra awesomeness?
rad/sonic defender
Maybe Fire OR plant / kin OR rad troller
Just about ANY tank
I probably would pick a defender to overlap and add blasts.
Even a kin defender with your choice of cool secondary. I wouldnt pair a blaster or scrapper unless they were heavily AoE oriented. (like fire, spines and such)
but 2 trollers would be great...and any combination of the 2 I mentioned would be great. -
I filled in the blanks with stone melee, and had some comprimizes....
How is this for a starter build that's just about softcapped to all types and 25 percent for psi def?

I would like to see a good competent stone build that can handle psi out of granite and everything else in granite.
I wonder, is most psi damage out there typed as psi, as ranged, or untyped?
Where could I find out that kind of information? Not that I want to dig through every single enemy in the game, but against stuff like arachnos, enemys in the shard, and a few toughy's here and there.
Anyway, when the new issue hits, i am going to take my guy to the next level but I know that its going to be expensive. I am just hoping I can keep my base recharge, run speed, and maybe put a dent in that damage debuff. If I have a guy that can handle anything, i feel that its more important to be a complete aggro holder. I like my role, but I just want to maximize my guys potential. -
could you please explain how they do work for me then so that i can better understand?
whats better than what? was my build self defeating in sorts by trying to do both?
With what I wanted in mind or maybe your own ideas, how would you build your (almost) indestructable granite tank? -
Also, I do not mind using manuvers as a mule and to also help team mates. I would like to be close to soft capped with S/L or Melee. The only stone melee power i do not like is hurl boulder. I cant afford PVP IO's but I love a few purples here and there. I would like to have as much DEF and resistance as possible. I dont mind sacrificing a little damage for more survivability.
Have fun, ask questions, and please help or point me in the right direction. Maybe I19 has new possibilities...I dont know. I have taken this build as far as it can go. If you do choose to offer up advice or builds, please include some wise reasoning behind it or numbers or whatever.
THANKS!!! -
My tank is damn awesome, but he has horrible issues with end drain from alot of red side enemies, arachnos and malta included. Even dark ring mistresses give him a run for his money. I just want my build to be and do something different. He is your chance to tell me where it is messed up, or where i can tweak it.
Here are the prereq's:
I operate out of Grante...alot
I would like to have close to or better than base run speed in granite without rooted (around 14 mph run speed i think)
I want at least base recharge (requires +65%)
Can any of yall help me or give me pointers? This is my current build:

It may not work for you, but my advice is to imagine a character, something that seems fun to you and maybe even something with a bit of a backstory to it... And then realizing that character in-game turns into a whole new level of fun.
THIS is one of the most true statements. I, being an army medic and a quiet guy, wanted to play an army medic who is a loud ***, and therefore my first guy was a emp/sonic defender. I was a complete support guy who stood back and kept the team alive and well. I felt the cool feeling of knowing if i did my job it was mission completed every time. This still holds true today, albeit with other sets coming in and doing well. (This of course was way back in I9 so it was in the days of a mil infamy being alot of money and SO's, DO's and HAMI's being your only option.)
I am waiting for someone (even though these are all biased opinions here) to give a devils advocate good reason to try CO. Unfortunatly I havent heard anything good about them other than all the power selections and open ended AT selection...which sounds cool, but having a theme is what makes everything fun to me, so i would hate being overwhelmed with options. If i want all that, I would use a Kheld or a SoA. Currently I am loving night widows, who combine a little bit of claws and spines melee with scrappers and stalkers.
For someone who wanted all that, i have it now.
If you aren't sure, try it. When you figure out that this game is the best in its genre, you'll be back. -
I am loving my widow..i love the cone, follow up, and the AoE it has, plus all the team friendly toggles and such. Its very scrapper and stalker-ish. Once fitness comes for free, i am wondering what one slot wonders will be good for this AT. Also, If you didnt use purples at all, what kind of build would we be looking at? I am basicly wanting to keep the high def and team friendly concept with having the ability to solo and kill things at an awesome pace.
all in all, i like this toon better than any scrapper or stalker I have played cause it has a little bit of everything. My only complaint? no self heal unless you get aid self, and not much in the name of resistance. (kinda like super reflexes i guess)
Whats awesome though is you get a few VEAT's on a team and we rock even more so! -
I did this once with an alt build on mine for people who compalin about not getting SB.
1. 3 slot that bad boy with run speed and make sure to use it in cavern maps
2. ?
3. laugh when they complain
4. profit! -
they didnt get rid of the whole problem yet. There are still abundant issues.
look for more nerfs. just saying :-) -
The thing with IO's is that you can focus on a few aspects aside from the powers to enhance and add those to an already awesome build. Some want that extra damage, some want recharge, some want defence or a certian type of defence. Some even look at regen/recovery. My stone tank used them to focus on my 3 main holes in my build, (aside from psi attacks, which i just decided was going to stay as was) recharge, run speed and damage. All the other bonus's are just icing on the cake. There are times where purples are great (in stuns and targeted AoE's for example) and times when they are not the best option.
There are awesome cheap sets out there like crushing impact, thunderstrike, mocking beratement, and enfeebled operation. Just pick and choose what suits you!
Also, do not forget the power of HO's in a few select powers and do not be afraind to stick with common IO's or lvl 51 plus SO's. If you exemp down to enjoy other content, you will have to look at that...and others will too. since a lvl 30-35 IO is about the same as a lvl 50 SO, check the prices for good IO's at lvl 30 and you will see a steep incline! for those who make money geting those drops from TF's and turning off experiance, there is a huge market for them! -
what does it take to kill a drop ship? has anyone ever done it other than test? are there rewards for it?

Here are some cheap awesome sets and individual IO's to look into:
(note, check the set bonus's to understnd more)
Steadfast KB IO
Mocking beratement
Titanium alloy
steadfast unique
crushing impact
multistrike
just to name a few. frankensloting is the way to go for now. focus on the good uniques first and then fill in the slots with the mindset of maximizing power attributes.
I also have one idea that always works for me. set yourself to 0/+8 and find a ticket farm on AE. Run it one, maybe two times. get 1500 tickets and roll 20 times. you can either craft all of what you got and sell it or do like i do and sell everything for 1 inf (which isnt smart but rather for lulz). i guarantee youll make 20 mil easy.
Catch me online ( global @doc brietz) on virtue and i will run one time for you for nothing, and ill give you whatever recipes i get and you can do with them what you wish.
i dont always say go farm, but just a few times makes for easy money and floods the market for those who wanna use them for whatever. i will tell you this, save real hard and save yourself 1 billion. I know for a fact you can have a damn good build for that and you will not ever need a purple or pvp IO for anything.
