    Channels

Whatever goes on in the channels really doesn't bother or offend me. I just took the road of the lowest common factor (people that do get offended) and built up a model that would solve the problem.

I just think the more splinter channels we get, the harder it will be for new members to find teams or get in on X TF, mission, etc.

    Channels

    All,

Here is my $0.02 on the issue. If I am not mistaken, there is a finite amount of chat channels that one can have (this may be inaccurate but the number of 10 keeps coming to mind). We have LB, LBx, LBnoBS, Liberty Badges, Liberty TFs, etc so that leaves a precious few channels available for SGs to have (such as Sisterhood Friends and Dreamweaverz) or just a friends only channel (such as Robo's and Camo's lounges) for the toon/account.

I believe the problems that have plagued LBx and LB are more due to some of the moderators not doing their job (I am not singling anyone out here, just an observation). My reasoning for this assumption is the splinter channels that pop up every so often, such as Steele's channel and now nyc's new LBnoBS. These channels were created because of an increase in frustration about conduct and language on the "main" chat channels (LBx and LB specifically). Also, you will get mods who use their subjective judgment instead of a formal set of rules and regulations.

    My solution to the problem:
    • Get a group together (either on a separate channel that is private or Vent) to spearhead the creation of an "Official Liberty Channel"
      • The group should be dedicated players who have experience in channel moderating and want to create a channel that everyone can join.
    • The group should then create a set of rules and regulations that everyone agrees on.
      • These rules are to be posted on the Liberty forums which will serve as an "End User License Agreement" stating that by participating in this channel, you agree to .... [insert rules] and failure to do so my ... [insert consequences for non-compliance]
      • The rules are to be enforced evenly and fairly across the board. This will take out the "this mod is to mean" comments and give a legit system of "right and wrong" conduct that is uniform.
    • Post the rules with the chat channel join command.
    • Allow the channel to be silence on join. [see note as to why]
    • Mods un-silence new members.
    • Mods will be responsible for being "keepers of the peace" and enforce the rules.
NOTE - The reason I believe the channel should be silenced on join is simply that if an abusive person is silenced, he/she can still listen to the conversation and, if they leave, they will still be silenced.

  10. Matt,

I will give it a try as I still need a Hami on my BS/WP scrapper. I have about 1.5 hrs of work/travel time to go.
  11. Happy belated Birthday wishes Steele.

I repair business computers for a living. I'm kind of the low end of the IT business. That's fine. The problem is, most of my contracts and assignments are working with companies utilizing legacy hardware, and usually from one brand. So when coworkers approach me, and ask for computer brands to buy or stay clear of, I have to rely on reading, which is not always current. I know several of you are more tuned in than I so I ask: which brands currently would you recommend to another for home useage? Or recommend staying clear, and why?

Dell - I'm a bit distrustful of them for now, because of that whole flawed capacitor fiasco. I've actually encountered the problem repeatedly at a school district I serviced.

    Dell's Alienware

    Gateway

Lenovo - I tend to be wary of things coming from China, but then so from the pc front does nowadays. The business Lenovo's I've encountered from about 2005-2006 issue seemed fairly solid.

HP/Compaq - I'm not overly thrilled with these. Last 2 years I've worked on hundreds of these, and there was, IMO, an unusually high failure rate on major parts. What's your view?

    Sony

    Toshiba

    Other?

Dell - Overpriced on the business end while trying to make the consumer more "price friendly". Tech support is not great. We used to be a reseller for Dell but found that we could do a white box better (and cheaper) than Dell. Dell was also competing against itself as a client would get a quote from us and then take that quote to another Dell rep to "beat" the price or there would be a special online that we as a reseller would not have access to.

    Alienware - No experience

Gateway - The professional line went belly up 2 years ago and everyone who had warranties were left hanging. As a Gateway reseller, we were not notified at all. Acer bought the consumer line so I have no clue what to tell you there.

Lenovo - Probably the best bet out of all of them. We deployed over 250 T400s to our sales force. They seem to be holding up really well. Replacement parts are quick for delivery and the units have even been dropped with the only problem has been plastics and a keyboard. Only issue that I have with them is that when they stop the production of a unit, they stop all of the parts so if you wanted to get an internal part that was not orginally part of the build, you cant get it.

Toshiba - Dont get me started. It was really bad for us as we had 2-3 month wait for repair parts when the units were failing in just year 2. Lots more problems with our repair company but that is a different story.

HP/Compaq - No true PC experence here. We use their servers for our infrastucture and have not had any problems.

Asus - I have not had a PC/laptop from them but I use their motherboards for when I build my own systems.

    The Return?

Welcome back. I lost interest in STO after the first 40 days.
  21. Just let us know. I (still) have several toons that need the TFs in one form our another.

Also, I am about 95% certain that AWOL will be running an Trail weekend with all of the trials starting July 16 and going through the weekend. I know that is outside the 4 weekes of play time but I thought i'd mention it.

In any case, we should be happy to help you. Take care, and godspeed for recovery.
