Coupled with the day he had, and truthfully the confusion here, I understand his reaction towards me.

My coloring the piece and trying to contact him, AND this thread whether it is a blatant call out or not, was merely to get him to reconsider the situation, and come back. This is my favorite section of the forums. We laugh a lot here, AND we share some great art... it would be a shame for him to lose out on that, merely because of one bad day.

I think it would go a long way to his "street cred" to come back, balls strong, or Suichiro hardened, and face up to us, we're not gonna bite. Well no harder than we are given... in the end like it was mentioned, we may disagree, but there's no conspiracy here or sides being chosen. The outspoken people in my favor humble me in their support, and it's not just because of the situation, it's because deep down, we are a family here... dysfunctional, virtual and emo, but still a family.

He's welcome to that, anyone is, the community enriches itself.

Thank you for your efforts, I hope he reconsiders.

As to the holding back to thank me, unusual but appreciated. I've learned to curb my impatience from this whole mess, I thank him for that. If or whenever he's ready to tell me what he thought of the pieces, I'm more than willing to wait for his reply.

    Mahalo...
Thanks LJ! I'll be sure that TJ sees your kind words. I can't say what may happen, but I'm all for helping with the extension of olive branches.

P.S. In my opinion, that piece of TJ turned out absolutely magnificent. You did a wonderful job melding TJ the character with TJ the person. And the colors are quite striking.

I make no excuses for that final post that got deleted...

So this whole thread is a call out (you did put his name in the subject ) and he will not (from what I know of him) come here and answer since he said he wouldn't. Out of principle ...

So, we can all keep talking about it but that is all we are doing.

Just my point of view ...
Hi all, been quite awhile since I've come into this forum...but I wanted to post to give a little insight on this topic.

I've known TJ for years and have had the pleasure (yes, pleasure) of meeting him a number of times at various COH related events. He's a good guy and a real gentleman...but he can also be a bit of a curmudgeon and set in his ways. He recognizes this within himself tries his best to understand the other perspective...if he's not getting it or seeing the other person's viewpoint, he will say as such. So he oftentimes posts from the "I don't see your point, convince me" perspective. If he still isn't convinced, he'll say as such to see if there is something else the person can offer to change his viewpoint. Not to be a jerk, but in a true attempt to understand what the person is trying to get at.

He's also the type of person who when truly awestruck and grateful for something as nice and awesome as LJ did for him, he wants to do it proper-like. For him, a simple "thank you" was just not sufficient to really express how he felt about the piece...and he wanted to hold off on extending his thanks until he could do things right in an extended post that would put into words his true thoughts and feelings. I don't know where lormsby on DA got the idea that TJ is holding any sort of animosity towards LJ...as I understand it, TJ was indeed grateful for the gift and was saddened that things turned into a flame-fest before he could extend his proper thanks.

The first sentence that Thorn wrote really hits the nail on the head when it comes to TJ's personality. He does not like drama and will not deal with it in any way, shape or form and will walk away from it to keep the drama from getting worse. He doesn't want to add fuel to the flames and will say his peace and move on.

The second sentence is partially right regarding the principle of it all...I haven't chatted about him about this thread specifically, so I don't know if he views it as being called out (though speculating on his personality and given the nature of LJ's generosity, I doubt he sees it as being "called out"). I do know, however, that he's walked away from the art forums as a whole because of the thread in question and moderator actions within that thread (which I will not go into any further detail because of the forum rules). So he's promised himself he will not post here anymore...and will likely not post in this thread because of principle (just not because it's a call-out thread; rather, he's not posting on the art forums at all anymore).

I know this is coming across like a friend sticking up for a friend...partially true, but please do realize that I do not stick-up for friends blindly. TJ is only human and is a man of faults (like all people)...and I have called him out on some of his faults in the past. TJ is indeed a great guy and I'm really saddened that there was a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding (on both sides) and that everyone here hasn't had the opportunity to get acquainted with the TJ I know and admire.

I'm going to try my best to sweet-talk TJ to set aside the principle of it all and come here to post (if for no other reason than to post once to extend his thanks).
  4. I just can't help but speculate that they expanded last year's con too much and just couldn't get enough attendance thanks to the economy to be able to justify doing another event in a convention format this year...
  5. I posted the following in the HeroCon forum and wanted to include it here as well for feedback purposes...

Having attended the '07 M&G and the '08 and '09 HeroCons, I personally enjoyed the format of the M&G a bit better. It allowed far more time for people to hang out, get to know their fellow players and to plan their own unofficial, outside events (like getting dinner with your fellow players, excursions to SF, etc). The players put together some pretty fun stuff on the side and I love the idea that there will be more time for these unofficial gatherings. Plus, the M&G format seemed to give the developers more one-on-one time with the players.

But now that the Bay Area event has been downgraded from Con to M&G, I've heard a lot of the out-of-state regulars saying that they will not be attending because they can't justify the cost of the trip if it's not in a convention format. It's the people who make these events so much fun and I'm really worried for the event if these people opt not to come because of this decision.

I really, really hope that the event planners will find some sort of middle ground between the '07 M&G and '08 HeroCon that will give some really good incentive for out-of-staters to consider traveling to the event. And judging from previous events, I am confident that some of the local players will likely try their best to provide some incentive as well by organizing some fun unofficial gatherings.

We have a couple in Sacramento as well and they too are nowhere near as good as the L&Ls I ate at in Hawaiʻi. The one closest to my home is complete junk...they hardly put any salt in their kālua.
