Whoa...you out-necro'd Frog!* Well played sir...well played...
/em golf clap
*for those unawares, Frog is Justice's resident thread necromancer -
Welcome back rednames! Hope you all had a fantastic holiday.
After y'all have had a chance to get settled in, could you have someone take a peek at Justice server? I suspect it had a tad bit too much eggnog over the holidays...it has had a bad case of the hiccups over the past week or so and has even passed out (crashed) a couple times during that period. If for no other reason than to restore the peace and "sanity" over on the Justice boards! -
Congratulations to everyone with NCSoft NorCal! I'm sure the office is buzzing with excitement now that you're in in your new digs! Now the hard part...unpacking!

Heh. Which explains why it wasn't done by our resident forum necromancer. Not enough horror with the revivification!

Uh oh...looks like we have a necromancer-in-training!

Hmm. When I saw Manti I thought I was looking at Richard Garriott.

But Richard would be in costume! -
I liked the template Ex posted in the new VG thread that I decided to hijack it.

Name Scions For Tomorrow
Recruitment Status No formal recruitment drives at this time; however, we will certainly welcome anyone who is interested in joining!
RP Level We dont have many heavy roleplayers at present, but we dont have anything against RP if thats your playstyle!
PvP Were not a heavily PvP oriented group, though were not entirely against PvP and sometimes to venture into the PvP zones to test the waters or to help members with badges. Again, if this is your playstyle, we certainly welcome it!
Theme/Concept No theme. We started as small group of RL friends who play COH/V and decided to create a SG for our characters and alts. Our SG name was derived from the name of our SG in a Mutants & Masterminds campaign that our tabletop RPG group played a year or two ago.
Activity Although were currently small in number (we probably about 10 or so accounts enlisted at this time), the current membership is generally pretty active. Many of us log in daily or every couple days. At present, our membership is mostly West Coast based and were typically on evenings (Id guess our peak hours are between 8-10pm Pacific).
Requirements for Membership No formal membership requirements at this time, though we may decide sometime in the future to implement a membership application. No strict SG-mode requirements, we just ask that you run in SG-mode up till 25 and as much as you are able thereafter. Were a pretty laid-back group of mature players (mostly 25+). We can sometimes be crude, rude and socially unacceptable...but dont let that fool you, everyone is extremely friendly and will help out in any way they can. All we ask that those who apply to please have a good sense of humor!
Leadership Since we're pretty small at the moment, we're fairly egalitarian. This will likely evolve if membership in the group grows significantly
In-Game Contact(s) Global @Manoa, @Brexor
Out-of-Game Contact(s) Interested parties are more than welcome to PM me on the boards, e-mail me at manoa.coh@gmail.com or to visit our message boards
URL http://www.scions.info Our main website is still under construction (which is currently on hold until our web genius gets a little extra free time), but our message boards are open for business! As a side note, our boards are not limited to members of our SG/Coalitions...anyone affiliated with COH/V are more than welcome to sign-up and post on our boards.
Coalition(s) We currently have two coalitions: Carpal Tunnel Warriors and Kithomer Wolf Pack. Were always on the lookout for new alliances. In addition, many of our members have villains in the Cabal of Enlightened Self Interest on redside.
Other Details Although our group is fairly small, were pretty tight-knit and are very dedicated at helping one another out so we all have the best COH/V experience possible. Our base builders have worked long and hard to pack our SG base with as many bells and whistles as possible and at present, we have teleporters to 16 zones, storage (enhancement tables, salvage racks, insp collectors, personal vault), invention workbench, medbay, empowerment stations (tech and arcane), etc. We use teamspeak on occasion (we prefer Skype) and have a Global channel set up for our members. We have the occasional planned SG-event here and there (such as TFs or venturing into the PvP realm) and members are always encouraged to set-up these events if they wish to organize one. -

West Coast? What is this western favoratism.

Um, I think it was the Texans who were always getting the all love...they've had a couple NCSoft meet 'n greets over the past couple years in Austin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first official meet 'n greet that's happened on the west coast (well, not including release parties and the like).
This particular meet 'n greet in the SF Bay area is a result of the feedback that Ex Libris received at the Austin and GenCon meet 'n greets from COH/V where players expressed that they wished the devs could have been in attendance. Since it'd be pretty difficult for the devs to travel to these types of events, they've set one up that's in the devs' backyard where they can attend. -

What?! Alright, I'm 21 but my boyfreind is 20. We both love this game, and we just moved to San Francisco, so I doubt that we'll be able to find a 30 year old in the next 15 days to slug along with us.
*cries* I was so looking forward to going too...
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure there'll be someone 30+ who'll be attending will be kind enough volunteer to play "chaperone!" I'd volunteer myself, but I'll be a week shy of the big three-oh at the time of the meet 'n greet. -
Tape recorder?? Gah, who uses those anymore? *hands Kitten her digital voice recorder*
You know Neutra, we have enough tech savvy people that this may just work! -

I reiterate: Friday. Friday?!?
What were you thinking?

It really sucks that you can't make it and completely understand...heck, I know a couple players in Sacramento who are in the same boat for the same reason. However, Lighthouse already addressed this in the other thread (in direct response to one of your posts I might add). -
Guess you better get your bootie into the Marriott then Neutra! Not only is it where I and Teh Boyfriend and I are staying, but Ex is staying there too!
-
Thanks Ex...all booked!
FYI for those who will be staying at the Courtyard Marriott Silicon Valley, the reservation desk informed me that the group code is only NCSoft ...don't need to say "City of Heroes" part.
UPDATE: Just got my confirmation e-mail and the group code is indeed under NC SOFT. -

Only if you live near a faultline. I've lived in California (Sacto area) my entire life and have yet to feel one. -

It doesn't sound like they'll be turning anyone away if some are unable to make the 6-7pm start time but can show up a little later so you can experience some of the fun.
And an idea for those who know that they are latecomers and think they may be missing out on a good chunk of the fun...in Austin, some of the best fun was after the meet 'n greet at an unofficial get-together that was planned by the players (I think a group of us stayed out 'till at least 2am). Just because the official meet 'n greet ends at 11pm doesn't mean we can't keep the party going in the general area D&B or at another bar and/or restaurant. -
Indeed! To quote the wise Dusk_Hammer, "I'm looking forward to Robo!"

Its not about the place, it's about the people.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I spent so much time chatting with the other COH/V folks at the Austin meet 'n greet that I didn't even have a chance to check out stuff in Dave & Busters.
Also, the Austin meet 'n greet was held in on of their event rooms...it wasn't held in the general area where all the games are at. If the meeting rooms are similar at the Milpitas location, it'll be a decent venue for the event. -

Akuma,
There is a group of players coming down from Sac, I am guessing if you coordinated and cooperated on gas money and schedules you could probably find a ride.
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's a ride that's the issue, I can offer a ride. But I can't help suspect that it's probably moreso the timing (right after work on a Friday) than it is the ride.
Unfortunately, Milpitas is close enough to Sacramento that some people can't warrant taking the time off. But it's also just far enough away that there won't be enough time to commute to the event right after work. For example, if a Sacramentan gets off at 5pm and they leave directly from work...they won't get to D&B until 6:30pm under the best of traffic conditions (which is highly unlikely during Friday rush hour).
I can't speak for everyone from Sacto (since I'm one of the luckier ones who will probably be able to arrange to take a couple hours off so I can make it)...but I suspect we're going to loose a lot of players from Sacramento if the meet 'n greet ends up being scheduled at 6pm on a Friday. And that'd be such a shame since Sacramento is pretty darn close to the Bay.
Again, I understand that it's likely very tricky booking a venue during the Holiday season. If a Saturday is impossible and you can only get a Friday, is there perhaps a way to compromise and push back the time a bit (instead of 6pm-11pm, make it 7pm-12am or 8pm-1am?) so those who have to commute a little farther can make it?
EDIT - It dawned on me as I was driving to work this morning that I live on the westernmost edge of the Sacramento area and my little town is about 30 minutes closer to the Bay area than the core of Sacramento. So my estimate in my example above was a bit incorrect. Taking this into account if a Sacramentan who lives or works in downtown Sacramento gets off at 5pm and they leave directly from work...they won't get to D&B until 7:00pm under the best of traffic conditions (taking into consideration a 2 hour commute from downtown Sac to Milpitas under good traffic conditions. Again, this will likely take longer considering Friday rush hour). -
[ QUOTE ]
Looking at 6ish-11, with the event to start at 7 and pre-registration at 6.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ex...that's going to be pretty hard for a lot of people to make if they have Monday-Friday 9-5 jobs (even if they do live in the Bay area). *Especially* with a Friday rush hour commute.
I know a pretty big group of players in the Sacto area who will likely be interested in this shindig. But a Friday at 6-7ish is going to be a pretty hard sale as many of them would have to to take time off work to make it to the D&B in time. -

I was looking forward to a Dec. 8th date
[/ QUOTE ]
me too. I work on friday and dave and busters is about 2 some hours away with traffic, maybe 3 considering its friday. I may not be able to make it then. Kind of sucks a lot.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been out that way a number of times and under normal traffic conditions (i.e. only a handful of snags), it usually takes about 1.5 hour from our neck of the woods. Taking into consideration that there is a strong possibility that a good chunk of the driving will be done during rush hour, I'm guessing it might take 2-2.5 hours. I can only see it getting to 3 hours if traffic is horrendously gruesome that day (which can certainly happen in the Bay!)
I too was looking forward to Dec 8th...but my reason was a little selfish (day after my 30th birthday). But the fact that it was on a Saturday did certainly sweeten the deal. I can completely understand that it's probably going to be pretty tough to get a venue that's available on a Saturday during the Holidays.
My suggestion is if the meet 'n greet absolutely has to be held on a Friday, Cryptic will want to want to push the start time back a couple hours. The Austin deal was from 6-10pm...it'd be pretty rough for people to get to Dave 'n Busters by the time the doors open if you have the same start time. You're looking at Friday rush-hour traffic and it'll be pretty rough for even those players who live in core of the Bay area by this time if they have a job that has standard office/banking hours. Those who are driving from outside the Bay (i.e. Sacramento and other areas of Northern California) will definitely not be able to get to D&B in time if they're unable to take some time off work.
I'll still be able to come even if it's on a Friday instead of a Saturday...but I can definitely understand the position of those who are unable to do Friday.
