    Just sayin...
  2. [ QUOTE ]
When the game launched, for the first four issues they listened to us... then they stopped really listening to us... then Emmert left and Miller took over and they listened to us for another little while... and now they've stopped listening again. Or even realy considering us, for that matter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think that's what's really at the heart of the matter. I was lucky to have joined during the time that they were listening to us after Posi took over...so an open dialog with the devs was the only thing I knew for the longest time. As I mentioned in lucas' thread, I (as well as RL friends who play the game) have noticed a drastic dropoff in redname communication with the players that seemed to start around the time of HeroCon. They may be hearing what the players want (such as fixing PvP, fixing MA exploits, etc), but they aren't listening to our feedback to see whether or not they are implementing those fixes in a way that the players expect or enjoy. As I said in the other thread ('cause I'm too lazy to paraphrase )...

    [ QUOTE ]
There's just too much stuff that's been pushed through since HeroCon that goes against player feedback and is infuriating and dividing our community. And the redname response (if any) is often too little too late. Much of this growing customer dissatisfaction could have been prevented in the first place had the lines of communication not been severed and the developers heeded the community's feedback.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Having a chance to calm down and reflect upon my feelings on the matter, I think I've pinpointed the source my anger and frustration over the past week. It's not *just* the stuff that happened over the course of the week that's been making me upset...that was just the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. I'm far more upset and disappointed seeing this breakdown in lines of communication between the devs over the past 7-8 months and the negative impact it's been having on this community. I think an apology would have been a great *first step* in reopening an open dialogue between the devs and players and would have gone a long way in helping reestablish the community's broken trust in the rednames. But at this point, a lot more dev communication (beyond an apology for what happened this past week) would have to happen to truly heal the relationship between player and dev.

In a nutshell...rednames, your players are your strongest assets. I implore upon you to talk to us and listen (not just hear) what we have to say. Please reopen the lines of communication so we *all* can work together to make this game the greatest MMO it can be.

For those who are curious about Manoa's opinions as of late, the above applies to me as well. Like Smoke, Manoa isn't "Blind Sheep Bear" with a woolly beast on her tummy. She's "Thinks For Her Bear" with a picture of great big thinking cap on her tummy.

When you afk and someone has taken over, they are assuming the risk, you are sharing in the reward. Same with pacting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even though the burden is being taken on by a different player, the risk is still being assumed. So long as both parties are consenting and the other player is okay with taking on said additional risk, I don't have a problem with it.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
ok ok, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist, but I completely agree with Manoa. After the i13 PvP Changes, I heard about the dev's and players having a vent/skype conference. Why couldn't we have something like that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thing is, I don't even think the communication was all that open with the I13 changes. During the beta process, the PvP community was very vocal against the changes that were going to be implemented...but yet the changes were pushed through anyway. A vent/skype conference would have not been necessary had the feedback that the developers asked for from the players for was taken to heart.

It's my hope that things might be able to be mended if the developers are allowed to reopen the lines of communication...
  14. [ QUOTE ]
but the only real way to effect improvements in this context is to work with the developers and community to make things better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think for this to work, there needs to be an open line of communication between development and the playerbase. When I first joined the game, the game had a fantastic dialogue between the devs and players and it showed through what was added to the game during that time. Granted that the current communication between development and the playerbase is still better than that of other MMOs, it just isn't what it used to be. I don't know what happened, but the posting activity from the devs has dropped off dramatically since the time of about HeroCon...we just don't hear from them as much anymore. I don't know about other players, but I feel far more distant from the devs than ever before. And it feels like they are pretty distant from us given some of the stuff that has occurred since HeroCon. I think for real change to happen, the developers need to be allowed to reopen a dialogue with the community.

This exodus might be a good reason to come out of my cave. I've always been averse to those sites because they seemed to be about vanity, self-centeredness, and self-promotion (to me.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

MySpace feels that way to me, but I think it's just because MySpace is geared towards a younger demographic (lots of teenie boppers on that site). I've been growing pretty fond of Facebook over the past couple months...the UI feels far more geared towards the social aspect of social networking and feeds you updates on your friends in a way that feels streamlined and not intrusive. Plus, the defaults for Facebook initially put your profile on hidden, so people can't see it unless they're you friend or if you change the defaults.

Also, I like that you can't change the format in Facebook...I find MySpace's ability for users to add videos, music and backgrounds that make text unreadable kinda annoying.

I'm making note of the contact info that people are leaving, but admit that more than likely I won't do very well with keeping in touch because I suck like & at that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm pretty bad with keeping in touch as well, hence why I really dig sites like Facebook. With a minimal amount of effort, you can remain pretty well connected with folks. You are able keep up to date with peoples' going ons when they update their profile and they can keep up to date with you when you add something to your profile. I actually feel more connected and up-to-date with some of my COH friends than I ever have with the boards or in-game. Personally, I think Facebook does a better job of it than MySpace...but that's my own personal preference.

My gmail is mhjohnson33 and you can use that same address to find me on Facebook.

I live in Pittsburgh. I'm 29, though I'll be 30 in a few days. I'm a Gemini, I like long forest treks and good friends. I started losing my hair when I was 22/23 so I decided to shave it off and actually like it that way now. I'm 6'1 and nice to everyone. I grew up in Tualatin, Oregon and went to High School there as well. My name is Matt Johnson.

  19. I'm *so* not respecting my own privacy!
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    3. No posting of personal information

Please respect the privacy of other City of Heroes/Villains players and do not give out information such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand how sharing your own information would be bad. It's your own personal information and your choice. I was always under the impression that that was to prevent people from posting other peoples' information, not their own. If not, my mistake and Niv or Mod8 are more than welcome to nuke this thread.
  21. Want to get in contact and keep in touch with your Justice family outside of game? Post how to get in contact with you so we all can keep in touch!

Remember that the COH forums are still searchable by non-players...DO NOT post any contact information that you would be uncomfortable posting in a public forum!

For me, I can be reached via the following...
Facebook (use silverystar7@yahoo.com in the search)
    MySpace

Note: I haven't been on MySpace much lately and have been on Facebook *far* more frequently lately, so easiest to keep in contact with me there.

I've been mulling starting a thread like this for awhile and with the number of folks who are leaving or contemplating doing so, it's prompted me to get off my lazy bum and finally post it.
