hmm, speaking of, I guess I should log on my Energy/ice stalker...
-
Quote:These days, when I log in my stalkers, it's because I'm in a solo frame of mind. I just don't feel "good enough" for a team on a Stalker. (Though I'll take any team invite)I'll throw my vote out there for anything/anything stalker above everything else. You just never see them.
Hopefully the changes coming down the pipeline will help that feeling. But the Stalker really feels like a one-man show, not a team player. I suspect that I'm not the only stalker player that finds themselves in a similar boat. -
It's not a 'set' but Super Jump has always been my default travel power, unless it didn't fit in concept.
I just love it. -
Quote:That's why I keep posting... I can't decide.I expected this thread to get more swarmed when I first saw it yesterday...
Maybe more are having the same problem as me...
All of my characters are concept characters... and I am having a difficult time choosing a "Favorite"! -
back in the olden days, dark/dark defenders were called 'D3s' on the boards (not sure if they are now).
Anyway. At some point I went "so what's a Dark/Dark Scrapper? a DDS?"
And so, Root Canal was born. A former dentist... -
At one point, some friends and I got together and made "ourselves" in Paragon City (this was pre-CoV, but I suspect most of us would have gone blue side anyway).
Now, Mind Control is totally my favorite set - it's what I'd really want to have if I had a choice.
But, life hasn't always been kind to me, so I figured I wouldn't give "me" Mind Control. Instead, here's the origin I came up with:
During the Rikti war, my house burned down. I was caught in the fire. In the end, my body was burned beyond recognition. However, I soon discovered that my vocal cords had melted in just the right way for me to be able to focus sound waves on people...
...and if I recalled the fires that burned me, I could make them happen around me again.
Hence, I was born as a sonic/fire blaster. -
After talking about my one Illusion Control character in another thread... I'm pretty sure Illusion Control is on my list of 'powersets to not do again.' but 'never EVER' is strong.
-
Apart from my very first character, who was seriously my first character in pretty much any MMO... every single one of my characters has had a concept, and been built seriously to that concept.
(I'm still writing and rewriting my first character's concept, not really happy with whatever comes out... because she wasn't really made with a concept, so everything seems flat.)
By now I have 38 characters spread over four servers (which I am considering parallel universes). And I have histories that explain why those characters exist in their universes, and not in others..
And one server (Pinnacle) is entirely devoted to a particular family line, and the characters related to it. I've only broken that rule once (and even then, I eventually went back and wrote her story to tie in).
Now you want me to choose a favorite?!
Hm...
I think mostly I enjoy Veneer, as a concept, but he doesn't get a lot of play, though at 35 he is my third highest level character.
He's a "magician" who's really a mutant (the magic booster pack was great for him). A former street hustler who used his mutant powers to help things along... (Illusion Control), he spent most of the first Rikti war hiding in one of his bubbles (Force Field).
Eventually something snapped in him, and he decided he could be a hero. He's got a coward's heart, though.
Powers-wise, he's an attempt to build a bubbler without the single-target bubbles. Also, because he's "from the street" he has Boxing and Kick and really wants to get in there and rumble. He did this even before Containment. He has all of the Leadership pool, though I think I might drop Vengeance. I haven't really looked at his build since before they moved the levels of the Ancillary Power Pools.
The entire idea is that he manipulates "light" from a universe not our own. Hence illusions, and the bubbles (and when he teleports, he goes into that universe). He actually started as an Ill/Rad but... I already had a Grav/Rad and I didn't feel like doubling up...
There's an opening for a villainous version of him on one of my servers. I keep waffling. Illusion Control was fun once, but I don't think I'll do it again. Force Field was also fun. If anything, he might wind up being a Thugs/FF Mastermind, so at least we can keep half his powers. And instead of the Fighting Pool, he's got pistols.
Maybe I'll even take the single target bubbles... -
I just pulled out my Ice Armor tank for the first time in over a year, just now.
Speaking of the devil... -
My personal favorite is Mind Control. It was the first set I ever doubled up on.
(I try not to have the same set multiple times, with some exceptions made for character stories and opposites/villains/mirror universes...)
But man do I love Mind Control. It's got to be the most elegantly crafted of all the control sets. Whenever any new control set comes out I look at the Tier 9 power - if it's a pet, it's obvious to me that it will not live up to the "all control, all the time" ideal that Mind Control set for me.
(Electric Control, and now Dark Control, are both massive disappointments, in that their Tier 9s are both pets)
---
Beyond that, I adore Storm Summoning. I think it might be the powerset I have the absolute most of. (Mind Control was my first love, but Storm gets more characters, probably because more archetypes can do storm... and no, I've never done mind/storm...) -
Plus non-stackable armors...
-
Quote:Oh, definitely. Anything that signals an absolute lack of creativity....As far as names go, I'd rather have l33tspeak than any name in the spirit of "Fire Kin Corr" and "Ice Blaster". Those just make me itch to flee.
I'd rather put a concept off for ISSUES while working on a good name. -
Although they don't fall under 'never EVER':
Sets that have more 'target ally' powers than 'target enemy' powers just don't fit with my playing style.
(The only exception here is Masterminds, but even then it gets wearying) -
I'm still waiting for the promised fix in the Poison proliferation.
Alkaloid and Envenom should be switched.
Of course this wouldn't affect Defenders so much. -
What ARE the most common sets anyway? Is there a thread for that?
-
Since I enjoy people who'll converse while playing (including during fights):
I've found that the better-thought-out character names tend to lead to better conversations. If I see someone named "Sk1Dm4rk" I can expect a lot of "lol n00b" type of conversation, which rarely gets interesting. (This can follow into character bios - not necessarily so much with character costumes).
Personally, getting XP and levels is fun, but not as fun as playing with people. So I don't mind if I see a lot of sub-optimal concept characters that can barely take down an EB even in a group of 8. That's pretty much my kind of people. I don't mind a TPK as long as it's with a good attitude.
So the kinds of people who are so focused on their numbers, on proper protocol, etc., they bother me. I'd rather PLAY than hear lectures about softcapping and "the right way" to play...
On the other hand, I get tired of sitting around between missions. I do want some sort of pace. I've left teams where the indecision/delay reaches my annoyance threshold (which varies).
But all in all: I like inviting people to my team that say 'yes'. Because I've found it rather difficult to build teams these days. -
Quote:Yeah. I have a friend that swears by it. Never makes a dom without it.Energy Asssault on dom.
I am the only one I know of.
Its a wonderful set, I just don't get why people avoid it.
He's the only one I've seen with Energy Assault.
(I'm too OCD with theme. I have an ice/ice, fire/fire, earth/earth, mind/psy, plant/thorn and elec/elec.. at one point I should make a grav/nrg... NRG assault looks fun, but... I need it to fit in my head/concepts too). -
My only wish is that Glacier worked the way the power description says: you need to be near the ground, not on it...
-
I can't remember the last time I saw an Assault Rifle.
-
Assault Rifle.
It just doesn't speak to me creatively. Whenever I come up with a concept that's all "yeah! that could use a rifle" I get bored with the concept very quickly. Don't get me wrong, apart from "creative differences" I see nothing wrong with the set.
(Not sure why but Dual Pistols speaks more to me; I keep planning on making a DP character) -
Yeah, pretty much all my characters are project characters.
I'm not big on the numbers; I just like to know where I'd fall, even if it's not "optimum." (I do like to be at least passable within the constraints I set myself).
And perhaps I will go Brute after all. Y'all have at least convinced me of that.
Then when Staff Fighting comes out - Staff/SR scrapper! -
People who say yes.
People who chat.
People who are cheerful in defeat. -
well, it sounds fun.
(honestly, it sounds more fun than Hasten/Tough/Weaving it all over the place. I like trying to find function *within* sets... though I'll take Acrobatics, since I love Superjump and all..) -
-
With the word 'again' I feel compelled to consider power sets I have used.
And at the moment, there's just one: Fire Melee. There's a power that exists in Fire Melee (I forget what it's called) that looks like my character is reaching out and going "coochie coochie coo" like my character is attempting to tickle my foe with fire.
