  1. 1) You have the default To Hit value (ie no buffs), your target has no Defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

I would want to hit 2 out of 3 attacks, and as the defender expect to be missed 1 out of 3 attacks from an opponent. Though a 50/50 split would make sense under the criteria, an encounter that results in a large percentage of misses can be infinitely more frustrating than being hit a lot(dmg can be mitigated through healing and resistance as well, when hit).

    2) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has no defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

I would want to hit 9 out of 10 times, leaving a chance to miss for unpredictability. As a defender, I would expect to be hit with every attack with an occasional lucky miss.

    3) You have the default To Hit value, and your target has the maximum possible defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

I would want to hit 1 out of 5 times. As a defender, I would expect to be missed by a large majority of the attacks, 4 out of 5.

    4) You have the maximum possible To Hit value, and your target has the maximum possible defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

I would want to hit 5 out of 10 times, and as the defender expect to be missed by half of the attacks. Capped defense should never negated by To Hit alone, rather by To Hit and -def debuff, IMO.

Glad to have ya along, Flunkee, even if it wasn't one of our smoothest nights

    [/ QUOTE ]

If only someone demorecorded the chaos in the room that will never be spoken of again and added the Benny Hill show's theme...

Nice to meet you in-game, Flunkee!

Ran a respec with Lord of Belain, U-Mann and Switchgear this weekend on some of our 20s characters. That was a min/max'd extravaganza of PvE slaughter. 1 death, and that was because I was being stupid.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought U-mann had the only death after giving a tunnel bomb a bear hug...

That was a GREAT respec team, possibly the best I've been on.

Crack - Look me up anytime bro. Regarding my AT and power choices... there is a specific build and playstyle I have in mind for it. It's on the DL for now, but I'll fill you in later.
  4. Teamed with Crackback while running some lowbies this weekend. He made sure to let our team of 8 know that at any point he could solo an entire spawn in our Atta mission.

He's a good player and kept the team entertained... the guy is hysterical.
  5. Since I know there are several posters from Omega Flight on these forums, I thought I'd let them and everyone else know what a cool group of players they are. On my blaster, Ember Reborn Redux, I've teamed several times with: Canadian Samuri, Canadian Mace, Morbious, Pot Shot, Iced Latex, Happy Mime, Dark.Rage, Psycho Midget, AlphaHealer06, and a few others I can't remember.

What amazed me was that each time a member left, they were immediately replaced with a new Omega Flighter... it's nice to see a SG comprised of active players that enjoy teaming with one another. Kudos to Omega Flight!
  6. I can't tell you how many times I started writing a descriptive plan of how to approach the next group when I see half the team aggro everything (the enemy, light fixtures, fake plants, etc.) while I exclaim "oh crap!" I must admit it was a good time though.

    Thanks Ping, Drizz, and Bert

    Answer: NOBODY!!! w00t!

But it's a rare, rare thing when somebody in my team dies. So that should say something.

My problem is that the "somebody" on my team who dies is typically me. Oh well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Welcome to the forums Rev

You had a very strong and skilled team last night in Warburg, a fine showing by HVND.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Teamed up with CLad and Belain tonight for one of the best mid-30's teams I've ever run with. I ended up getting approximately 7 bubs (including dinging 35) in 3 hours, and we mostly ran my missions. Great fun and AWESOME team

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lots of fun, indeed! Everytime I team with a skilled kheldian (Iltat's PB, Lad's WS, Doc's Shade, Chantara, etc.) I am instantly lured into creating one... yet, for some reason I can never keep interest in it past level 4 .
  9. I had the pleasure of teaming with some forumites 2 nights in a row while on my blaster, Ember Reborn Redux. In no particular order :

    AceMACE/AceSTORM
    Ruby Tuesday
    Matushka/Lil Mama
    David Dun
    Guarded/Meowtch
    Morgan West

Sorry, to those I've forgotten the names of ... all good players and better people. If only those Malta and Carnies were as agreeable
  10. [ QUOTE ]
You impose too much on me Ember. I make very few opinions without testing, but I'll keep my numbers to myself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very well, CZ. I speak only for myself then... everything else is speculation. Mal, you have some good points also. Nice discussion.
  11. I only disagree w/ the notion that ice/em tanks are the best for the same reason that you feel they're the best... the specific powersets we use most frequently and how effective they are against ice tankers. You use Celsius and are basically reduced to using your secondary because of the high cold resists on ice tanks. I use fire primary on Ember and chew right through them w/o ever having to enter melee... along those same lines, fire/em tank take me a while to break down. The 3 best PvP tanks I've seen on champ are/were Jett, Golem, and Anckle... 2 out of 3 stone/em tanks (which is why they're my choice for biggest pain in the $%^& for tanks).

Btw, blasters don't need a tray full of yellows against defense-based sets... they can cycle BU + aim.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Hey! I just made an Ice/Axe Tank.

Is there something wrong with them?
Besides that I suck at PvP?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's nothing wrong with them in PvE, Black. I was going to post the link of a thread concerning ice tankers, made by Converted_Clock... sadly, I think it was purged. A very knowledgeable poster that has championed the cause of ice tankers is Circeus, he's as good a source as any if you find the set underperforming for you. Axe secondary feels and plays like a scrapper... you'll need to deal some damage to quicken the kill speed due to the nature of a defense-based set as your primary (hard to hit, luckily so because no resistance to reduce the incoming damage).

Regarding PvP, sadly, tanks are not ideal. Energy melee is the undisputed king of the pvp tanker secondary selections with its less resisted damage type, stuns, and insane damage. The stone tank can be effective with granite toggled on, tp'ing enemies into its melee range and taunting everything in sight. INV tanks seem to only shine with unstoppable running. Fire/EM tanks can be effective if played as a high-resist scrapper using healing flames liberally. I've seen a few ice/EM tanks hold their own by choosing their spots to attack and hitting hibernate to ease into safety. In general, tanks are more an annoyance that can and should be avoided by the other PvP combatants, imho.

    Hope that helps
  13. Just dueled Terpman's lvl 50 Rad/Psi in his test server tournament with my lvl 43 Fire/Energy blaster. It was set at lvl 38-40. He was leading 4-0 early on because I couldn't hit him while debuffed and my invis was rendered useless by tactics. He used WW to stay out of blapping range while firing his psi attacks and dropped LR on me to slow my advance. After adjusting strategies we tied 4-4 the rest of the way, final score 8-4 for Terpman. He's an excellent player and a nice guy as well. I learned a lot and hope to fight some more players from different servers on test in the future.

CZ, did you set that match for no observers?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
Don't think I ever got to hit you with a full fury bar actually, but seriosly, as i was saying last night, i've never had as much problems with blasters detoggling. Yeah they might drop 1 off every so often but it seems like you knocked them all off and stunned me every time ya nailed me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was using the following attack chain:

Aim -> total focus -> energy punch -> bonesmasher -> energy punch -> build up -> repeat

TF put the stun in, then my goal was to drop rooted. Once it dropped I immediately hit power thrust to knock you back and prayed that you wouldn't get granite toggled in time... while I get a few more attacks in before you stood. You killed me more often than I killed you regardless... energy transfer is straight nasty!
  15. Stoney! Welcome to the forums

I was on Ember Reborn Redux last night and had a great time. I noticed you're Pocket Zerg as well... I ran into you a long time ago in Siren's when I was on Frost Reborn. You're the only MM that's ever earned my respect in a PvP setting to date. GG and I'll see you in battle again... when your fury bar is at its lowest hopefully.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Stone Brute, not tank. Brutes are what like 70% of a tank or so. Its a Secondary Granite Armor vs a Primary Granite Armor

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good point. I was able to kill him, with rooted and granite, using 2 full attack chains... SIGNIFICANTLY less effort than it requires for a stone tank. Regardless of the lower def/res numbers, I still couldn't de-toggle granite... though the knockback protection seemed very weak in granite for the brute once rooted was de-toggled.
  17. [ QUOTE ]

    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it takes 6 for granite and 3 more for rooted which is not possible by 1 troller cause granite resists holds so they dont last long.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saw it happen last night. Ask Belain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think you're both right. I'm pretty sure the stoner got held when he dropped rooted to chase and got caught up by a guard rail. I'm more amazed that 6 holds can be stacked by a single controller...
  18. 6 holds or any combination of mez? I've had 6-8 mez effects stacked on me, only 3-4 of them being holds though. Even with hasten I've never had more than 4 holds stacked on me from 1 controller.
  19. A quick /e salute to One of those Days, Aeon, Pocket Stoney, Mudz, and Quason for Warburg last night. Thanks fellas.

    * Btw, learned that a stone brute's granite armor can be dropped by stacking holds... have never seen it happen before last night. Has anyone tested it on the stone tanker version?

    Regarding Fight Club...

    "Take it to the arena"
    - FC is akin to a pick-up basketball game on the asphalt with playground rules, allowing spectators and participants to come and go as they please. Arena is that lacquered hard-wood floor gymnasium with a timekeeper/scoreboard/official to maintain a controlled setting. The FC atmosphere cannot be captured in the arena.

"Inspirations are the balancing variable that's sorely missing from fight club"
    - From day one, the devs have drilled the message home that PvP is balanced for team play, not solo. My blaster will inevitably die in a 1 vs 1 duel versus a controller if the match exceeds 5 seconds... I know that and understand my AT's weakness. The flip side of that coin is that I like my odds against every other AT w/o the aid of inspirations. Not bad if you ask me, unless one needs to have the uber tankmage that hurls lightning and craps thunder. Another point is that villains are at a decided disadvantage w/o access to insps and temps within Siren's. Pop 6 yellows and suddenly you've stripped the defining attribute of the stalker AT (concealment-based actions) and reduced it to a blapper with less range and no 30% irresistible damage... for 300 influence. Stalkers are the sappers/voids/quantums/agony mages/etc that force us to use tactics or pay the consequences. I welcome the challenge.

    "Bring FC to Warburg"
    - Under the current rules, FC would fail miserably in Warburg, IMHO. With access to more powers, to succeed in Warburg one needs a teammate or two... balance. The divide between PvP and PvE builds becomes infinitely more apparent as the level cap is raised. If FC will go to Warburg, then the only rule I would like kept is to respect the combatants in the duel... insps/temp powers are fair game.

"Fight Club sucks, you're ruining the zone"
    - Judging by the attendance and the civility/respect/sportsmanship exhibited by the participants, I'd say that a good majority are enjoying the experience. Feel free to gank spectators... feel free to announce you're forming an anti-FC team to keep everyone on their toes, for that matter. The zone is our playground and we all have a right to play whatever game we want and however we want... for both sides of the debate. All the FC'ers ask is that common courteousy be displayed in allowing a duel to run its course unhindered.

    *FINAL POINT*
    - Isn't it nice to see all these people interested in PvP? Prior to these zones, the PvP population was non-existant. That's the reason the PvP community on the forums felt the need to take a vote on designating the "official" PvP server once CoV came out... to ensure that the 200 or so die-hard arena fans would be able to have some action more frequently. Every server seems to have found their own PvP community in-house. Regardless of the global defense nerf and ED, this is the most fun I've had while playing this game.
  21. Thanks to Grip and John for the duels in FC tonight. As always, I had fun
  22. While you're at it, can you speak to Beer about that nasty Headsplitter critical he dropped on Frost? Very inappropriate
  23. HH - 50 Ice/Ice Blast
    Helms - 50 Ice/ice Tank

You have two potentially strong pvp characters. The tank especially being a defense-based set when coupled with accuracy reduced from 75% to 50% in pvp. Give it a try, you may be surprised
  24. Are there any brutes and/or masterminds out there having success in pvp?
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Think he got tired of you running away then coming back and attakcin him while fighting other peeps or NPCs so he grabbed his stone tank and watched you try to scratch it

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm... maybe that or killing him several times. Since you know him so well maybe you could ask him for me and let him know I had fun and look forward to seeing him out there again

Btw, had a fun little 2 vs 2 in Warburg using Frost Reborn. I teamed with One of those Days against Beerknight and Prince of Cania. Thanks fellas
