    Arc Name: The Prism
    Arc ID: 49801
    Morality: Heroic
Faction: Council, Arachnos, and a custom group: The Prism
    Creator Global/Forum Name: Sooner
    Difficulty Level: Moderately Challenging
Synopsis: A local science teacher is concerned because all the prisms are being bought up. Your investigation leads you to a new villain group, a new threat, and a new arch-villain threatening Paragon City.
Estimated Time to Play: depends strongly on how thoroughly you clear the maps. Each map can be stealthed. One map has numerous glowies on a large map. If you stealth everything, this arc can easily be done in 15-30 minutes. If you clear everything... a much longer time investment.

    Using a level 50 Illusion/Radiation Controller

Mission 1 - Very simple. Nice looking costume on Vermillion. Intro text made it sound like a unique and fun story.

Mission 2 - The acceptance screen's question was a little confusing. You may want to reword to include what kind of files or what type of files. All it says is "Does someone keep files?". A suggestion might be "Does someone keep files on that sorta thing?" You get two Clues with the same name once you find the files. Seems sorta redundant. This is most likely because you have a Mission Clue for completing the mission and a clue at the end of the Glowie part. Easily remedied by removing one of them. I've done the same thing myself when making missions. Very doable mission.

Mission 3 - For the Orange minions description you list the 2nd sentence as "Orange is powerful and aggressive the service of the Prism". That doesn't sound right. For the Green Lt's in their description your missing a comma after "Which this Green will bring you". Sorry for bringing up grammer Titian, had never heard of that color. When I googled it I saw it was a famous ancient painter. For a minion he's rather powerful, more in line with a LT than a minion. Lavender Blue's description is rather bland compared to all the others you did. In your clue about what the prisms are being used for you don't mention what type of weapon, but in the next mission briefing you make it sound like we already know its a laser. Other than all that, the mission is moderate to high in difficulty. Not so bad soloing as long as your careful, but with a team, it might be more on the high difficulty side since the sonic attacks with lightning pets from LT's and hard gravity control from minions will be more frequent the bigger the team. Not too terribly bad really as they die quickly, a good challenge can be fun.

Mission 4 - Very normal glowie mission.

Mission 5 - Very simple get the Boss mission. For an EB she was not that bad. Not too powerful or too weak from what I saw. A little anti-climatic though. Just a boss spank and done.

All in all, very fun concept. Loved the names and some of the descriptions of the baddies. Nice inclusion of the reluctant villain pet. Just a few minor items i mentioned before, but beyond that a nice simple story arc. Good job.

    Used a level 25 Soldier

Mission 1 - Very difficult mission. The Elite Boss is rather powerful, and having 3 patrols show up made it almost impossible to solo the Captain. He even self heals. I was lucky that he put a bubble of invulnerability on me because otherwise I would have died very quickly. It was doable, but I burned through most of my inspirations to do it, and luck was on my side. For a team, it might not have been so bad, but solo for anyone without defenses and lots of greens would be nigh impossible. The remainder of the mission was fine, the cops do repeat the same sentence over and over, but thats no big deal.

Mission 2 - Same exact problem as in mission 1 with the Elite Boss (he is the same exact EB as the 1st mish). No patrols this time. I used several inspirations to make it easier, but he's no push over. Bubbles and an Assault Riffle make him tough, especially since several of his shots do knockback. He didn't encase me in a bubble this time. All you really need to do in this mish is defeat him, so on that level the mish is very simple.

Mission 3 - The Prison Guards are not too bad for me, since I have immobilization resistance. For anyone else, all those web grenades and the 3 different shots from the guards will result in lots of deaths. They throw web grenades alot. Having the EB as a pet was fine, although he tends to go off and do his own thing when you get too close, no biggie. The Defectors are too powerful for Lt's. I let the EB Pet solo one of the Defectors and the defector took the EB down to half health in less then 8 seconds before the EB mezed him and finally killed the defector. Lt's should not be able to dish out damage that high and that fast. Other then that, a very doable mission.

Mission 4 - The Hulking Monstrosity's have a damage aura on, which slowly kills their captors. Not sure if that was intentional or not. I just watched as the longbow died off and then went up to him. Then watched as he just went from group to group killing regular guys. I didn't really need to do anything but grab glowies, and help kill the Nullifiers since the pet did have trouble with those. Once I had 3 pets, they had no issues with Nulifiers. The pets made soloing much easier, on teams, they would most likely not survive long. So they were a nicety. The mission was rather normal beyond the pets. Very doable.

Mission 5 - Same problem again as in mission 1 with the EB (same EB from mission 1 and 2) with the added issue of Equilizers and their slow power and acid grenade launchers to make it that much tougher. I was once again put into a bubble which saved me from dying.

Over all the story arc was normal and typical of story arcs found in COV. Other then the EB issues, which with a team would not even be too noticable. Soloing would be very tough for some character types based on their level. I was lucky in that I had alot of inspirations, defenses, and my DPS is moderate to high. And with the pets that slowly killed their captors prior to being rescued not sure if that may or may not have been intentional? The missions other then those small quirks were very doable and simple. Keep up the good work.

The "energy" from the guns that the Lost shoot, shut down your toggle powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason why it has a chance of dropping your toggles is because there is a small chance they can cause disorientation, and when you become disoriented, your toggles drop. You may not always see your toon acting disorienting, as it didn't last but a split second due to resistance or what not. If you have good defense against disorientation, this will most likely not effect you. The same goes for the Rikti Drone attacks.

You will at first be unable to find Circle of Thorns in Kings Row. Don't worry about it, it's not your fault. It's the devs' fault. The devs should have to find Circle of Thorns in Kings Row each Friday before receiving their paychecks. Then things would get better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, there are several roof tops that spawn CoT in Kings Row night and day all constantly. Never fails, and has been that way for as long as I've been playing the game (over a year).

There is a helicopter pad on top of a roof, north of the hospital, that roof and all the roof's around it, spawn COT constantly, without fail. If someone has killed them already, give them time to respawn, but they appear there all the time. Bonus, there is a badge on the helicopter pad, for those that badge hunt all the time.

As a n00b, I'd love to see this discussed - what are total gimp powers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gimped powers (If you have them, don't flame me...it's just my opinion)

Beanbag - Why? When you can take other offensive powers...why?
Taser - Don't recall anyone ever taking it...anyone ever see it?
Combustion - I guess if you six slot this bad boy...but honestly I've never seen it deal massive dmg...am I wrong?)
Air Superiority - nothing to add here....
Assault and Tactics - If you are not a defender or controller stay clear of these..the 7% buff is not worth it. Why does this power pool penalize you for your AT choice??? No other power pool does this !!
    Flurry - Weak...just plain weak.
Resuscitate - Weak for a level 20 choice.....just keep Revive inspirations handy..save a power pool choice. If you wanted to be a healer...why did you not play an Empathy Defender or Controller?!?!
    Hand Clap - Knockback, no damage dealt...slight chance of disorientation. R - E - S - P - E - C, find out what it means to me.

That's all, and really just an opinionated rant. If you have found these powers really work for you, kudos.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bean Bag - If disorientation is your bag, then this bag is for you.
Taser - I've seen many a devices blaster take this power and lower levels then respec it out later, its always helpful to render temporarily useless, a baddie that has gotten too close, especially since devices isn't a melee based secondary like many of the other blaster secondaries are. Plus disorientation in PvP is very useful.
Combust - For a tank is great, more AoE is good due to PunchVoke, for a blaster, not sure on its real usage, unless your playing a Blapper in which case more AoE is a good thing.
Air Superiority - Much better then most moderate single target hand to hand attacks (especially for tanks), because it has a VERY HIGH chance of knocking the target down and does descent moderate damage to boot. And as you know, a knockeddown target isn't attacking back which gives you at least one more swipe at him/her before getting back up.
Assault and Tactics - These powers are ok, a bit endurance heavy, but when stacked can be very nice. Best used when on teams.
Resuscitate - If you feel the need to be able to rez and your not a Radiation or Empath Defender/Controller, then this power is useful. Or in those situations where your rez power is still renewing and you need to rez someone else, its nice to have a suplimental rez power.
Hand Clap - Good for crowd control, if your in trouble, too many baddies on you, too many baddies attacking a particular member, poof, the mass's are disoriented, allowing you a momentary break or less baddies attacking for a few moments. Unlike sleep, you can attack disoriented baddies and they can't do anything about it till the effects are over. And knockback means less attacks coming in for a few seconds as well. Its more of a situational power, but not without its uses.

As a n00b, I'd love to see this discussed - what are total gimp powers?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats kinda subjective, no power is completely non-useful. It's a matter of taste and wether or not your going for the cookie cut numbers build or going for unique combo's, or just wanting a power that is different.

Most people claim a power is useless when they are attempting to build a numbers based character, based solely on combat numbers (most effecient defense, most efficient damage output, or a mix of both).

Every power has its usage, at least for the time being. Some powers may be very useful in early levels and then become unused in later levels, in which case they can be respec'd out, but they did serve a purpose at one point.

Earlier I read someone saying that certain move powers were very bad, and I think that is an incorrect assumption. Yes, the power may not have worked for you, but they all have their usage. SS and SJ have comparable speeds, their uniqueness comes in that SS lowers the chances of being seen by baddies, SJ allows you to go over obstacles rather then around. Teleport is the fastest form of movement, but in order to use it for longer periods of time, it requires slots. Flight, while being the slowest of the move powers, allows for more strategic play, while your up in the air you can play recon and plan out where to go and keep away from danger more easily, most people kinda frown on Flight's real value, and even though your accuracy is lessened, you can still attack while in flight without hindering your placement (and your still not near the enemy). Unlike with SJ (you lose some movement control while attacking), or TP (you fall which can be bad if an incoming attack hits you right after hitting the ground and you end up ded), or SS (you stop moving all together while your attack animation plays out). They all have their advantages and disadvantages, its just a matter of taste and play style. To say any particular move power is a bad power, is opinion, not fact.

I guess what I'm really trying to say, is that all powers have their place, maybe not allways, but they have their use at some point or another. And it allows for more unique combo's rather then ALWAYS having the same chars in every shape pouncing about.
  11. It appears that people are mis-intrepreting the changes just slightly. I see several posts in this area complaining that the single target holds are too powerful and don't seem to be effected by the half-duration double-recharge change. ONLY the AoE holds/sleeps/immobilizes were changed. The single targets power were not. The Ice controller single target hold has pretty much the same duration and recharge rate as the arrow version. The only bug, is the damage missing from the arrow version.

As far as the single target immobilize Arrow, it follows in line with the single target immobilizes that most of the controller primaries have already, just minus the minor amounts of damage. Which balances out, especially on a controller, since I'm sure the DEV's didn't want them having 2 lower level immobilizes that caused damage. This also allows the defenders to have something similar to the devices web power which has its uses.

The only forseeable issues i've seen thus far with this set, is when combined with a non-arrow primary or secondary set. The attack rate is severely slowed down when you have to re-draw the bow, [censored] an arrow, and then fire each time a different power is used that is not arrow related. Its workable, and may or may not be intentional, I don't know.

The animation for the glue looks good, but I do agree that the gas and glue effects could prob be switched and still work. But I can live with them the way they currently stand.

As far as the Defenders having a control set, I think is fine, since turn about is fair play, since the controllers tend to have the defenders sets all the time, lol.

But the controller changes and defender/controller shared sets is another matter, for another chat subject.
