If you feel that you have a moral obligation to make sure that any money that you give any vendor for any given product is used in an ethical or moral way, then act on that.

You don't, however, have the right to tell them how to spend money that now belongs to them.

  4. Sometihng that bugs me is when you rescue certain heroes, and they end up being more powerful than you are.

There's something immersion breaking about it... you go, rescue Statesman, and he starts clearing the map with friggin' Hand-Clap. If he's so powerful, why the hell did he need my little character (who is clearly, evidently and obviously a weak-sauce puss-pants by comparison thereby denting, and not just a little, my pride in what I've accomplished with him) to rescue him?

How is it that your character is supposed to be this super-powerful saviour of the city when any and every actual villain you face can grind you into a thin paste and use you as gravy thickener?

    Yay...

Yes but said store hasn't renamed it's Steak section "Paragons of Steak" with it's own little kiosk and additional attendant to run it , made a big show and tell of it to all the customers and even mentioned that thanks to the upsales of steak, they've got new types of steak in (i.e. The number of takeups on the wedding booster pack allowed the VEATs to be moved forward an issue from 13 to 12) but then all of a sudden the store is spending that steak money on Tofo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Uhhh... just a second.

It's got a big sign over it that reads "butcher". The people who work in that section work nowhere else in the store, and wear special aprons with their name tag and position on it. They do advertise when they have specials both on price and on uncommon merchandize. When a new product hits the shelves they market it in both flyers and in-store.

So, yah, actually... it does. And I think you'll find that most decent sized grocery stores are the same.

As people KEEP missing out in my posts, we don't know enough, if money that Guild Wars and Aion is currently earning is being partly funnelled towards helping their AAA western title City of heroes to develop and progress. If that is the case, I've got no beef (sorry) with it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They have a product, you have money. They want your money and you want their product. Once they have your money and you have their product it's not longer your money and no longer their product, it's THEIR money and YOUR property.

If you don't want the product, don't give them your money. If you feel that you have a moral obligation to make sure that any money that you give any vendor for any given product is used in an ethical or moral way, then act on that.

You don't, however, have the right to tell them how to spend money that now belongs to them.
  6. I really like steak. I hate tofu, though.

The grocery store I buy my food at sells both.

Do you honestly think it's reasonable for me to bang on the manager's door and demand that, because I hate tofu, that any money that I spend on steak should be used to further enhance the store's stock and inventory of steak, and that it specifically not be spent on maintaining the store's tofu stock?

  10. There's a time and place for pulling and tanking, and they're rarely the times or places that people think they are.

    Herding tanks drive me batty.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd like to suggest a change to that: bad herding tanks drive me batty.

When I play my tanks, I herd. I do this mainly because I find it the best way to actually tank since I'm not nor have I ever been a fan of taking Taunt (though I'm reconsidering this now that Taunt has -range), but I also don't expect the group to stop and wait for me to actually herd. I'm proactive. I don't wait for the entire group to be dead before I go and herd up the next group (which also prevents group splits because everyone knows I'll be exactly where they need to head by the time they need to choose). I wait for enough stragglers to be standing around that it will take enough time for the rest of the team to clear the group for me to get the next group nice and huddled up. I generally operate 1 group at a time as well, but that's mostly because I run on diffs 2 and 4 with 8 man teams (re: I live at the aggro cap). The only time a herding tank slows a group down is if it's a bad herding tank, at which point you'd be better served by just having him/her jump in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Alright... bad herding tanks.

But I consider a "bad" herding tank to be the type that insists that every single spawn be herded, regardless of size or difficulty of the mission, before anyone else does anything and that behaves as though they think they're god's gift to teaming and it's their job to keep everyone safe. Which isn't so bad, until you combine it with berating and deriding anyone who doesn't essentially ask permission to do anything other than stand around waiting for the tank to give the kill order.
  12. Herding tanks drive me batty.

Herding is handy once in a while, but there are these idiots out there that seem to think that herding is the only option, or that it's somehow more fun or safer for the team. There's very few things as irritating about a tank who's a nazi about herding and who tries to disallow the team from doing anything other than act as a blender for the mobs while the tank himself gets to have all the fun. I quit those teams faster than just about anything else.

    Her'es another one...

A few years ago when archery first came out I made an Arch/Dev blaster, complete with mines, the whole bit. I was on a PuG and the leader, obviously a newer player, kept trying to tell me during the TV Respec to use my mines. Every spawn he'd be "instructing" me to put mines down.

We were having no trouble at all, my blaster was doing his job and the other team members were doing theirs. Even the team lead who kept insisting on landmines was doing okay, but he wouldn't shut up about them. I just kept saying no... I knew better, I knew that laying those mines down would do nothienr other than slow us down as we were doing pretty well. We weren't steamrolling by any means... but we were doing pretty well and had suffered very few, if any, defeats.

We finished the respec trial relatively easily, although just to shut him up I showed him both how long it takes to set up a decent mine field, thereby slowing the team down significantly given that he wanted them laid before every single spawn, and how many mines it took to really be effective against spawns that big. Landmines, really... are only really good for solo play anyway. In a decent team they're a waste of time.

This was also LONG before AE and just goes to prove anyone, at any time, can make some rather interesting (and goofy) power selections. Ah well it was HIS character and if he was happy with it so be it. Just glad I never had to team with him LOL

There've been n00bs doing dumb [censored] since launch. Everyone's ready to blame MA and AE missions for their n00bosity, but I've been here for five years and one of the things that I've noticed from threads like this is that they never change.

People not understanding their powers, people not understanding the game or the role their AT is supposed to fill. Everytime a thread like this pops up the stories and complaints are often very similar to the last time. Anyone blaming MA/AE for this is missing the point and is missing the reality of the situation and that is that MA/AE or not, there are n00bs, and quite frankly I've noticed neither a decreaes nor a significant uptick.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What makes it a horror story is when the new player is repeatedly informed of a better, or even proper, way to utilize their in-game powers, and they refuse to listen. When they willfully perpetuate a bad experience, they have become a gaming equivalent to Jason Voorhees.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    True.

I think my point is that I'm trying to illustrate that MA/AE farming and PL is not the devil that people are claiming it to be, nor is it the source of crappy play and bad behaviour despite the spin that some are trying to give it. It's merely another mechanism to accomplish somethign that many, many veteran players who really, actually know what they're doing can use to get by some of the more plodding, grinding and boring parts of character development (read; pre-20).

The point is that the AE is not to blame for n00bs, as there've been n00bs for as long as I can remember.

    Blind invites are rude.

There is no such thing as a "blind tell".

As long as you say something in the tell along the lines of "Hi, want to help with a level 13 Frostfire mission in the Hollows?" or whatever you're doing, you should be fine.

[*]What else there is to do at 50.
[*]What else there is to do at any level.

[*]How to join teams doing other types of missions, and how to get into the missions.
[*]Where to get more info (Paragon Wiki, and the Forums).[/list]

Actually, by itself, that's not really roleplaying. It was annoying for sure, but not really roleplaying. Hmmmm, I wonder if he played my arc. Whoever did pointed out that one of my custom minion characters was missing a bio. LOL

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know RPing when I see it. It's not just that he stopped and wanted to stare at the walls after every mob, he wanted to "chat" about the clues and speculate on the situation. I suppose I should have mentioned that...
  25. I only tend to team with friends, so I don't run into a lot of PuGs anymore, although I used to.

My most recent irritating event was on an MA mission, believe it or not. I know... you're all shocked.

Anyhow, it's not what you think... allow me to elucidate.

I was doing solo missions on my scrapper (mid-20's at the time) and I get a /tell asking me if I want to join a "Non-farm MA team for some missions?". Sure, sounds good... So we gather in AP and we stand around for a minute waiting for the team to form up and the Star-Wielder says something like; "After we do this one, please make sure you rate it." or something like that. It should have twigged me...

This, as it turns out, was a true connoisseur of these things...

So, we get into the mission and fight the first spawn. As we finish up I start moving on to the next one, as I'm the only melee character in the group and therefore relegated to tanking duty. Now, I suffer from scrapper-lock from time to time, I even suffer from blaster-lock occasionally when I really get my mojo going, but I'm not terrible about it. So, anyway, I hop along to the second or third mob and I'm fighting away and I notice I'm alone... So I check the chat box... nothing there. I continue fighting, trying to hang on until my team can join me and there they are, just in the nick of time. We finish the mob and I start to move on, but this time I'm looking behind me and as it turns out one of the other four team members is sorta following along behind me but the others, including the team lead is standing still, turning slowly in place.

Now, bear in mind, this is on a map tileset that anyone who's played the game has seen a thousand times. It's the burned out office set, like the one you play in the Frostfire missions, only sans the ice. I'm sure you all know the one I'm talking about.

So as I'm approachign the next mob... slowly... the lead says in /team "Don't go right to the next mob, I want to see and appreciate everything and read all the clues."

Uhh... okay, y'know... fine... but I found myself wondering how many clues and things he could possibly have to read after fighting only four spawns and no glowies. Anyway, it's not my mission which means that there might be something that he got for a clue that we didn't see. But up until now I've been alone at every spawn for the first few seconds, almost like these guys are literally struggling to keep up with me. I'm not moving very fast... it's not like I've got SS on and am whipping around the map, I'm taking my time according to what I know to be a good, efficient albeit slightly cautious pace... as you do, y'know?

So, at this point I start really paying attention to what the team is doing and it becomes evident to me that it's not just that he wants to read all the clues, he literally doesn't "... want to miss anything. I want to enjoy the content".

    Buh?!

Alright, fair enough... but this guy didn't just want to "enjoy the content", he wanted to stop for thirty seconds after every single spawn and turn slowly in place and enjoy his surroundings. I watched him... he would stop over every body (presumabley staring down at them to read the description, they were custom mobs... but there's only three kinds of mobs in a custom group, and once he'd read the minion, LT and boss descriptions there's really not much more to see. Know what I'm sayin', hombre?), he'd check every corner, he'd stop every fight to check his clues in case he missed one... it went on and on. It took us twenty minutes to clear out the first floor of the map because he insisted on making the rest of the team wait so that he could inspect a map that he'd seen a thousand times before.

This dude was RPing, and forcing the rest of the team to wait for him while he did it.

So, I made my apologies and quit the team. I'm all for enjoying content, but if you're going to be that hard-nosed about it then the least you can do is do it solo so you're not forcing it down other people's throat. At least with an MA team I know what I'm getting into.

There's nothing more irritating than getting caught on a team with a nazi RPer.

To top it all off, he also happened to be one of the most innefectual dark/dark defenders I've ever seen.
