All that having been said, I would like to see NCNC send 2-3 people from different areas of NCNC (say Ex/LH, Posi/Castle and/or SexyJ/BaBs) to at least one East Coast convention every 3yrs or so. When/if they do so, they can give away "supercodes" that grant 2 out of 3 (or whatever) of the special West Coast convention giveaways.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd love it if they attended a few east coast conventions. Especially SexyJay, he's one Dev I'd love to meet in person.

The replies here speak for themselves.

It's great that there are a few generous souls who wish well on those who are lucky/wealthy/have-enough-vacation-time to pick up this gift. I don't begrudge those people, either. If I was at PAX, I'd pick up one, too.

However, yes, every time I see one of those costumes in-game, I will think ill of the company who gave it to some paying customers and kept it from this paying customer -- me. That's just the truth. CoH does a lot of things right, but this is not one of them.

You could make a bigger marketing blunder, I guess, but I sincerely hope you never do. The good news is that it's not to late to fix this one. Offer it for sale for those who can't get it for free. Make money AND good will.

And fire your Marketing department -- immediately.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except they are not keeping them from paying customers. Everyone is being given the exact same opportunity here: Go to PAX, get the chance to get the costume. The fact that, for whatever reason people like me and you cannot go does not mean that we are being screwed. It means that we simply cannot fullfill the conditions to get it, which is not the same thing as NCSoft screwing us out of it.

I'm not paying $15/month for non in-game items so I don't feel that it's my right or priviledge to expect to be able to attain those items for free.

I am however paying $15/month and have been for over 4 years now and if something is made available in-game, I feel like it should be made available to all someway or another.

Going to a convention on the west coast is not one of those ways. Either make this a future vet reward or be able to purchase it like the Wedding Pack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I pay my 15 bucks a month too and feel the Dev's should code me a pony while in game Signature characters follow me around and do all my fighting for me, but that doesen't mean its going to happen, nor that it's any less rediculous for me to expect it to happen either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now you are just arguing for arguments sake and sounding like a buffoon or worse a shill for NC.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, I'm arguing because this "Ohmygod! NCSoft is giving something out that I can't get! THEY ARE EVIL NAZI'S WHO KICK PUPPIES AND HATE RAINBOWS AND HAPPINESS!" crap is getting old.

I'd be a lot more sympathetic if people were simply going "I wish I could attend PAX and get this hardsuit, but I can't. Is it possible it might be made available some other way in the future?" rather then what we are getting now which is "The Dev's are showing favoritism to the west coast! How dare they give this out, and they are bad people for it! I hate you, NCSoft!"

ok not to sound like an [censored] but this exclusive stuff is getting to be a bit ridiculous. first I love the CoX game and have been a log time player. I understand that giving something away special to people to attend these events but are you planning on releasing these to the rest of the community after x amount of time has passed, like as a costume pack kind of like the wedding pack?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh yes. Because god forbid, there be something neat out there that not all of us can get.

Because, y'know, I've been a long time player too. And I have no way of going to PAX, even though I want that Hardsuit. But I don't have this level of entitlement that makes me feel like if I can't have everything, then it shouldn't be in the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Making something available to people that are just by chance close geographically so that they can attend this event, or have enough time and/or money to go there is not a good way to promote the game.

You run the risk of alienating alot of your current subscribers which it seems has happened based on the posts here.

I live on the east coast and as such can not attend this event without flying there. I could afford it but it's not high on my list of things to do with $1500 for a plane ticket and then extra for accomodations/food.

Besides, what makes those people so much more special than us? Why not give away some free swag or the like instead of giving something away for FREE that the majority of us can not ever get now? Is my $15/month not good enough? Why is someone on the west coasts $15/month better than mine?

I say make this costume item available to everyone for free and give the lucky few that can attend this convention something other than an in-game item. Doing otherwise just pisses off alot of people.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And what about those people that want whatever non-in game item but can't afford to go to the events? By your logic, maybe they shouldn't have those there either because people on the east coast can't get them?

Oh wait, that's right... It's only a bad thing when its something that you personally want.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I live in a small town in Florida.

There is no way you will ever be within 200 miles of where I live unless your plane crashes.

Please tell the genius that came up with this it's ACTUALLY one hell of a way to make the 99.999% of your paying subscribers to feel like you really only care about those that have the money to attend events like this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure a good 99.999% of the playerbase is smart enough to not overreact and think that NCSoft is trying to flip off their playerbase, as opposed to, god forbid, do something nice for a gathering.

I'm not sure if anybody has asked yet considering i don't have the time to look through more than 20 pages of posts.. but I was curious..

If when you purchased both City of Heroes and City of Villains separately... and applied them to your account.. Just speculating of course, would it have been / be possible that your account receives the benefits of the Good Versus Evil edition.. Taking into consideration that now when people buy either CoV/CoH, they get both for the price of one.. when we long time veterans(and some short) had to pay for both games

    [/ QUOTE ]

How about no? Just because we are veterans, doesen't mean that we are suddendly entitled to stuff just because they combined the games. It'd be as stupid as demanding that Blizzard gave you something because they started selling the Diablo 2 Battle Chest, when you bought everything seperately when it first came out.

The capes are viewable here. The differences to the two are that the Wolf Spider's cape has a different attachment, and cannot have its colors altered.

Thanks for the pics of the two symbols. I was wondering what they did to change the vet reward one. I also wonder if they'll change the Wolf Spider cape to match, but I doubt it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

From the looks of it, theres enough difference between the two that it doesen't need to be changed any more.
  12. Here we go.

This is the Arachnos Veteran Reward Symbol

This is the Arachnos Collectors Edition Chest Symbol

As you can see, the differences are that the Vet Reward Symbol has a colored backing to it, and the "Spider Legs" are one solid color. (Both the backing and "Spider Legs" are color customizable)

Meanwhile, while the CoV CE symbol doesen't have the backing, both the "Inner Legs" portion and the "Outer Legs" portion can be colored seperately, making for a neat blending.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Might want to mention the Wolf Spider's cape is nearly identical to the CoV CE cape. You can't change it's colors, and the way it is attached is slightly different, however.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't have VEAT's unlocked on my account, so I don't know what the Wolf Spider cape looks like.

    [ QUOTE ]
Also, do you have screen shots of the two Arachnos chest symbols (CoV CE and vet reward)? I'm curious to see what's different about them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't, but I'll see about getting some. In the meantime, the essential difference is that the Vet Reward Arachnos Symbol has a solid color "backing" to it.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    Correction.

There was no Fortunata Helmet given as a Pre-Order helmet. The Blood Widow Helmet (which sometimes appears on Fortunatas) was available for females only (the male version of which is the Mu Helmet). So, Fortuna on your CoV Pre-Order list should be changed to Blood Widow.

Also, the helmet you have listed as Mu Helmet is actually the Mystic Helmet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. I'll be honest, I couldn't remember the specific names of anything other then the Crab Spider Helm, so I went with what was listed on ParagonWiki.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Otherwise, well done. /e thumbsup

Edit: You might also want to note that the Buddy Code versions of the Laurel and Sandals (Valentine) have the advantage of being account wide, while the new versions must be earned for each particular character.

*Nods* Noted. I'll try to get an updated version soon.

I suggest "LiquidX's Bachelor Chow". To prepare:

    1 small saucepan
    1 cup of water
1 bag of Maruchan instant Ramen (Any flavor)

1: Put one cup of water into saucepan
2: Bring water to a rolling boil
3: Open package of Instant Ramen
4: Put contents of package into water
    5: ???
6: Dump out contents after burning it and getting third degree burns, then pick up the phone and order a [censored] Pizza like you should have in the first place.

While the helm is called the Blood Widows, it is frequently seen on the Fortunatas as well as the Blood Widows. They are not exclusive to the BW though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, thanks. I didn't really pay enough attention to the in-game mobs, I guess; I just thought that the 'proper' name of the item should be mentioned.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. I'm already looking at stuff I can improve on for a rewrite. (For example, I completly forgot to mention the Art Book that came with the CoV CE.).

I've also discovered a new product that I didn't know existed, which I need to add to the list.

    [ QUOTE ]

Later on, after the initial stuff sold out, they discovered they still had stuff lying around, and did one more run of the Heroes Gear Kit just to get rid of the excess stuff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That musta been what I got then. Iirc, it just came in a plain cardboard mailer with the stuffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe it originally came in a plain cardboard mailer, too. (I'm not 100% sure on that, mind you, as I had bought the retail box for the DVD so I didn't need the Heroes Gear Kit). But yeah, the Heroes Gear Kit was simply the "extra" stuff (Code, 30 day free play, ect) minus the Disk and the fancy box.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

    2. The Hero Gear Kit, as I recall we were told, wasn't just "the exact same" as the COH CE DVD... it *was* actually boxed versions of that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. It didn't come in logoized/retail boxes.

What it was, iirc, was that there were leftover goodies and they were packaging up as many full sets as they could and selling those.

I bought one way back when and I believe it was just basically a plain cardboard box with the goodies. I don't believe there was an actual DVD in it though. Not sure on that point.

I remember asking either Cricket or CuppaJo if they were ever planning on making a Villian Gear Kit...

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Heroes Gear Kit came about because of the unique circumstances that came with the CoH Collectors DVD edition. Namely, the CoH CE wasn't released until roughly a full year after the release of City of Heroes proper. So, being nice, they released the Heroes Gear Kit with all the stuff that came in the CoH CE (Clix, Mini Comic, In game items, yada yada) minus the DVD and box for the $20 dollars, so that those who had already bought CoH wouldn't have to pay another $50 dollars just to get the stuff.

Later on, after the initial stuff sold out, they discovered they still had stuff lying around, and did one more run of the Heroes Gear Kit just to get rid of the excess stuff.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

It was also the only way you could get the seventh figure, Lord Recluse, who was available exclusively through the CE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you 100% sure about this?

I only ask because I've got 2 LR's and 2 Black Scorpions. I've got two accounts, bought the original non-CE edition of CoV for both, and then at a later point, bought the CE edition to upgrade my main account. So, if that's right, then I should only have 1 LR.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Officially, Lord Recluse was exclusive to the CoV CE.

HOWEVER, (And I actually ment to include this, but forgot) there WERE some production problems that affected some of the CE and Non-CE boxes. For example, several CE Boxes were missing Ghost Widow figures, and there was the occasional report of a Lord Recluse figure turning up in a non-CE boxes.

However, for all intents and purpouses this is a "Bug" in the production, and was not actually intended.

    Nice post.

Hey LiquidX, still remember Crystal X or Fist of Flames from 2004/2005 ? Just returned recently to COH last year November. Glad to see a familar name again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sounds familiar, yes.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Wow! LiquidX is still postin' strong I see. I used to play, then un-subbed, now I am playing again.

Yeah. I probably spend way to much time on the forums.

Where did I get my Prestige Slide from? I don't think I bought the CE version of CoH, but I do have the PreOrder CoV and DVD CE CoV versions.

    Thanks!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, if you bought the Heroes Gear kit when that was in the store, that'd be one way. (Do you have the V.I.P./Destined Ones badge?)

If not, then I'd say it's from a bug. Otherwise you bought the Heroes Gear Kit or CoH CE without realizing it.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
I don't mean to sound negative, but when's the last time Lady_Athyna or LiquidX actually appeared in the City Scoop?

    [/ QUOTE ]

About the same time someone sent us some actual questions.

And in my defense, I've been busy waiting for Human: Royalty to send me my millions.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
One correction. the Crab Spider, Wolf Spider and Mu Helmet CAN be used on Females. I use the Crab Spider on my main and She is in fact female.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are correct. What I was posting was how they were originally labeled as when they were being offered (Which led to the controversy that I stated). I knew some of them had been changed to be usable by both genders, but couldn't remember which one.

    *edit*

    Fixed with the helm clarification.
