Quote:And I'll reiterate my point: Bringing up stamina is moot, as everyone will have it. But when you post n00b sounding posts with n00b sounding problems, expect n00b level answers. If you've got to choose between death or running away which you consider both lame, claim you've got the know-how to handle it yet don't want to be bothered to use the other options...This is why I feel like you're skimming my posts. I already answered that question. I won't be a **** and quote myself, so let me re-iterate:
And before you say it, I'm not calling you a n00b, but what does this sound like?
Yes, endurance management will become much less a part of the game. An good riddance, as far as I'm concerned. Yes, it's a legitimate game mechanic, but it's also the one that irritates me the most. I'd sooner DIE and have to run to the hospital than run out of endurance mid-fight and have to run away, hide around the corner and then spend a while watching Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe.
Sounds like someone that is faced with a problem, knows there are solutions to solve it but refuses to learn them. Notice, in my response, I didn't bother listing every little solution you can use to mitigate the issue. But listing them all would *really* make me sound condescending. I guess I could have just posted a /facepalm picture and said you're exaggerating, but that ain't my style.
I'd rather not put out fake etiquette or 'spare feelings' when I don't agree, even with a poster I deal with often (yeah, just because I post with T_A elsewhere doesn't mean I'll spare his feelings about the little pictures he posts at times. don't really need to press on it again, but it does annoy me at times >_>) No sugar coating here, even if I *am* in a good mood.
Quote:OK Sam, not flaming you here but I would genuinely like to know what I have done since I cam back to the boards that even remotely approaches - remotely approaches - the things Leo has done in this thread. Are you seriously thinking that my virtual eyeroll over someone's flaming me because I did not actually pull up and count the Mu in Marshall Brass's "Find Truth Behind PTS" mission, qualifies as equivalent to what Leo has done here?
I thought my response ws pretty low-key, given that the accusation was clearly meant to stir things up and as such, qualifies as a troll post.
So sorry, Sam. I didn't mean it the way you read it so I'll retract that. -

I always thought the best course of action was integration but it all seems to resist such course. It's why it seems so exclusive to me.

Quote:While I agree, what I'm saying is, to properly tell the reader what a power does in the detail you're looking for, it'd basically have to write up an entire paragraph explaining it to the minutest detail because the way some powers work are odd. Perfect, I suppose, for if you're wondering how a certain proc will work in a power or whatever...but even then, it'd be like reading a bible and may require a guru to reassure you're comprehending it correctly.Just as a side note, by the way, I have long since stopped agreeing with Jack's vision of real numbers and how they only confused people with needless complexity. Having a clear, unambiguous write-up of what your powers do and how they compare to each other has proven to be ESSENTIAL to making a decent character, at least to me. Granted, new people usually don't bother, but for the most part that's because new people don't yet have a concept of how good a character can be. I know I spent the entire first year of City of Heroes without status protection, believing it was worthless.
I've always believed in letting players know how the game works and what their controls do, but not really REQUIRING them to go through all the numbers. Real Numbers aren't even enabled by default, and Combat Attributes are even more hidden.
IMO, you're better off seeking the guru who will most likely know the numbers and how to explain the powers' function.
Quote:Do you realise what you're suggesting here? If you raise Stalker hit points in any way, they become Scrapper hit points. If you raise Stalker damage, it pretty much becomes Scrapper damage. They already have Scrapper defensive numbers on top of that all, so what you're suggesting is to make Stalkers into Scrappers with a higher percent chance to score criticals which goes up even higher on a team and the ability to score hidden criticals.
I still maintain my opinion from before - Stalkers need to be improved, but not by making them more like Scrappers. If necessary, increase the size of their hidden and combat criticals up to 120% power damage or some such, or make their Hide harder to break or unbreakable by outside forces, make them rehide even faster, make them rehide on a kill or on a critical or what have you. If Stalkers are to be improved, they should be improved to be better at what they're designed around, not better at not using that mechanic.
...and I might have had a few beers, so that might be changing my perspective. -
Quote:I was speaking on behalf of the j-holes past, present and future. I'm not typing too fast for you to keep up, am I? >_>are you a multiple?
cause you're the only one running that game in this thread.
Quote:It takes more than one or two posts to come to that conclusion, Leo, and I've done what I can to get along with you in the past, with varying results. What I'm saying is that the way you present yourself and the way you treat other people builds up in people's memory. City of Heroes in general and the forums in particular constitute a community that is built on retention more than anything else, and people remember.
Just as a simple, non-loaded example, Friggin Tazer and Miss Kitty didn't earn their reputation in a day. They earned their reputation over the span of years. You are not a low-key poster. People remember you. Whether you choose to take responsibility for what people remember you for or not is up to you.
Quote:I take responsibility for the tangent, as I should have learned by now that no tangent is "off-topic" enough to be sure the thread won't become about it if someone turns it into a pet peeve. Today, you get to be that someone.
Quote:2) I already have better endurance management and tactics. I'm starting to get the feeling you're simply skimming my posts.
This isn't about the haves and have-nots, just making a general point. That people latch onto the 'l2ply' phrase and completely forget anything else in the post is probably more a point. Not that that is important, but have at it. I'm not going to drill all the hyperbole posted so far as I'd be here all night... -
Quote:Glad we could amuse you.People who act like j-holes but are shocked SHOCKED I SAY when they get the totally predictable backlash are hilarious.
Quote:Yes, that's my point. If I don't want fitness on this character, I can't respec for ANY reason or I will get the fitness pool. No juggling slots or rearranging powers at all.
So to play my character concept, my way I lose my ability to do a respec on this character. I admit it's the only character that I have that the I19 change impacts and I'm not suggesting that in general that the vast majority of players and characters will benefit from this, other than those who whine that it doesn't come with extra slots, I'm just giving an example where I regret that there isn't a way to neuter the effects such as free unenhancements for those powers you can slot if you don't want them.
Example: My Spines/Dark stalker and EM/EA stalker that don't have fitness at all now, will have all 4 when logging in i19. But my Claws/EA brute has hurdle and health but not swift and stamina and will have to respec to get the rest of the pool.
But it's just like many people say, inherent fitness is subtle enough to be ignored. You won't be suddenly regening your HP back in a blink, you won't be suddenly leaping over tall buildings or able to run unoptimized attack chains without worry. -
Quote:Well, the NA way to do it is find someone that RPs (like someone you've RPed with before), ask them if they're interested in joining a thread, and then just make it yourself. And to be honest, there doesn't seem to be much "new stuff" aimed for the newer people (or maybe less casual) groups...
Corrections/information related to necessary links for "how to get into the groups here" would be greatly appreciated, unfortunately, my 1st few experiances of just trying to talk at GG all those years ago didnt go down well for me, as I was just ignored when i tried to talk to people in local.... >.>
I'm sure there are people, like you, that are kind of waiting for 'new stuff' to pop up to join and other RPers that wouldn't mind joining something else on the side. -
Quote:I like it this way. Just seems to me, EU is exclusive while NA is more inclusive even though I don't really RP post that much.Pardon if I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but since this myth apparently continues to persist, I feel it bears repeating that this just isn't true. We share our RP setting in a dynamic, choice-based manner that while not perfect does the job well enough to allow any reasonable player to participate how they prefer.

Quote:You caught me, you know me so well >_>The more you insult and bully people, the less credibility you have. You COULD post these things in a less confrontational manner, but you openly choose not to, and that tells, because this isn't the first time you've done this.
I am a tad grumpy (who wouldn't be? althought this year's black friday wasn't that bad at all) but I'm not any more confrontational than the original statement was obtuse. It's just, in my grumpy-ish state, I don't really care who I'm saying it to. But if there were little credibility in what I say, I should just be brushed off like any basic troll, right?
Anyway all will be good after a bit of the consumption later tonight...
Quote:Still don't think it's relevant that I brought up the "Endurance Management becomes meaningless" argument?
Quote:And it's funny you're the one to bring up the "irrelevant" card, considering you decided to dedicate an entire post to what you claim was off-topic. -
Thinking about it, can we have the holy shotgun shells as a vet reward? Would be interesting to build a Van Helsing character with a slew of tools (like the Slayer Axe, Iron Sword, etc.) to deal with these special menaces. Or maybe just make more craftable temp powers.
-
Quote:Score 1 more for Stalker/stealth tactics, then. It's super easy to tell when an Illusionist is using their phase when you're up close and in their face.I never knew how to tell if they can be hit or not and I been playing for 3+ years. So I wouldn't say it is that easy to tell.
Another tell is the sound they make just before phasing. I've learned to listen for it then wait some time before jumping in to attack (I should really time it so I can put a count to it). Can't remember where I learned either trick of telling they phase so I might not be able to attribute that knowledge to me playing Stalkers a good deal of the time. -
Quote:Well I don't need the details >_>I don't think so, or he wouldn't be half human.
I can think of a way or two it could have been done, but... I'm pretty sure I can't post them here.
But if the 300ft dragon is going to 'do the deed' with a human, he kinda can't be 300ft tall. If he has the power to change his shape/size, that is a useful power that should be described... -
*skips to last page*
Ah, that's why this thread is over 10 pages...dunno why I didn't guess it.
Not to be rude, I just figure it'd barely be reaching 5 pages or so by now with character descriptions... -
And just to make this clear, I doubt anyone said such. I know I didn't say 'you took stamina so you need to lrn2ply'. Is that what you *really* saw? Because that's a big leap. Hell, you can take stamina and *still* run out of endurance. What does that say about any of your stances?
-
Quote:I didn't get an unexpected response, as indicated by the many past 'Stamina is mandatory' threads. Even for the accusations of 'he must play regen' posts and such, it's nothing new. Some advice you might take yourself, man. Instant judgement of people and telling them 'L2Play'...did you really expect any other sort of response?
But to see players will still find a way to separate players into subgroups *is* an epiphany. Especially considering I never stated anything about fitness and those that take it (or not). -
Most of those aren't really lies, just not the info you're looking for. While I'm all for changing the visible numbers to the ones that 'matter', I don't think we need to expand it to all the mechanics and break down the power piece by piece.
I'm pretty sure, if a new person sees that Chain Induction does 700 dmg in the numbers then tries to use it and sees 'Chain Shock', they'll figure 'Oh, it must be spread or something'. If they're just newbs, they'll chock it up to the magic numbers behind the curtain. If they're like you and me, they'll dig for more info, undoubtedly coming to the forum with a question like 'Does it do all 700 dmg on one target or is it suppose to spread to others'. That isn't to say I don't think those numbers should reflect the power better (I'd probably just put the initial damage on CI and not even state the jump damage, probably just leaving those jumps as a 'bonus'), just that we don't need to see the range of the jump, how the ToHit decreases per-jump, that it creates a temp power on the foe that causes it to summon said jump, etc.
It'd be nice to have a function that *does* show us in depth each power, but leaving the real numbers simple with a [show everything] command would be great. -
Quote:Probably because it wasn't really called for either. The statement I quoted in the first post really hadn't much to do with what the OP was even asking nor was it even all that truthful. Only in the context of someone that doesn't know what they are doing does it make complete sense.Really, I don't see why you decided to come down on me like this.
Quote:You are demonstrably and provably wrong. In fact, it just so happens that I teamed with an Illusions/Rad controller today, who slapped my character with the 30% recovery buff that is Accelerate Metabolism. Stamina itself may be a 25% buff, but it's slottable, whereas the buff I saw was a flat 30%. That one single buff, in and of itself, solve pretty much the full entirety of my endurance problems, to the point where I didn't even have to worry about endurance for the most part. It was just strong enough to make my endurance bar come back just fast enough between fights to put me at around 3/4 endurance at the start of each fight, my normal habits pertaining.
It was improving the efficiency of your character. By how much, I can't tell as I'm not a numberz wiz. But to say x% of recovery magically solved your issues is interesting seeing as such a low number can easily be duplicated with a % of endurance redux.
So 'Stamina will fix this'? Yeah, probably similarly to a certain amount of END redux, or a large enough damage bonus would fix it.
Quote:Theres a difference between 'Not being at full might at level 1', which is a sensible and perfectly fine design aim that I agree and have no problem with, and 'Sucking endurance until Stamin when it magically and provably gets better', which is just plain daft.
It's not a 'challenge', it's jsut plain 'Not Fun'.
Quote:Look, you want to gimp your build by having to haul around a tray full of blues all the time; this is your right, but I find everyone who has Fitness being told "ln2ply" both rather offensive and.... laugh-out-loud funny.
And how could I be telling everyone who has Fitness that if I take fitness on some of my characters too? Is there some kind of racial divide between humans who do and don't? Is this like that whole Hero vs Villain thing?
Some growing up is needed... -
And how much of that has to do with stamina/fitness? Or is the fact you have fewer slots, weaker enhancements, not fully developed stats and fewer powers not a factor here?
Apparently, the devs don't want you to be at full might at lvl 1 for gameplay purposes or replay value. You could always complain to the devs we deserve all our slots and powers plus the ability to slot purples at the start...it make about as much relative sense. -
Watched it and I'm still confused...
Did the dragon daddy just lay an egg and give it to the mom? -
I always thought, to make phase powers more usable, give them more use. Phasing is so rare, no one knows how to react or change their strategies to compensate for them because no one ever uses them. I *could* pick phase shift up, but it's been nerfed into such uselessness, it'd just be easier to softcap defense and pretend I'm phased.
Want to make them more useable? Make more powers that use them with strategies that revolve around them. I'd love to have a control set that focuses on it *if* we could attack phased targets while we're phased ourselves and this set happens to have a means of self phasing. A niche strategy, yes, but boy is it powerful... -
So what I say isn't true? Hardly, considering the whole 'I gotta run scared mid-fight cuz I'm out of blue' isn't magically resolved by getting stamina so there's bigger issues at hand.
Or are you talking about going on a tangent? I'll just post about anything that sparks my interest in a thread.
If we *really* need to go back on topic, the OP isn't asking for advice for his builds so all the 'OP you don't need to' talk is pointless as his dilemma is purely 'to move this unique or not to move'. He wasn't asking for concepts what what fitness is or isn't either so whatever. For my builds, those that don't have fitness going into i19 receive no change as I find it more fruitful to just put a lvl 50 IO in those powers than expensive uniques I only have on a handful of characters (that, incidentally, have them in fitness + extra slots to capitalize on the bonus without sacrifice). -
Quote:Not particularly. For who the Real Numbers are meant for, they serve their purpose to describe in non-cryptic terms what a power does ('superior' damage doesn't tell us much and often times those type of descriptors *really* are false). For newer players that aren't even looking at how much damage/effect a power does, just 'what' it does and to what magnitude, I don't see the issue.
This attempt to make Real Numbers "simpler" just serves to make them confusing and false. And I pointed a great many of these problems out when Real Numbers were still in Beta, and I was completely ignored.
For people like you and me, that want the specifics, it's not like the information isn't there. Otherwise, how are we knowing the effects of these powers now?
What you seem to want is the inside mechanics of a power (like how does the new Gauntlet work or Jolting Chain function, etc.) because for the general purpose of a power, it kinda doesn't matter if the radius is really 25ft or broken up into smaller areas. All we need to know is, once you click LR/SC, everything blows up. -
Quote:Then l2ply, use inspirations or stop thinking you need a bloody full blue bar to function.I'd sooner DIE and have to run to the hospital than run out of endurance mid-fight and have to run away, hide around the corner and then spend a while watching Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe.
I'm still surprised to see people popping blue pills when they have over 1/3 a bar left or wait to recover. Newsflash, you can fight with less than half a bar, and the better you slot the more you get out of that 225% END you have sitting in your inspiration tray. -
What? The Holy Shotgun shells? Let em. Makes sense that they do something to demons, vampires and darkness.
