You're welcome, there's much more... but after you get the basics down, you can jump through that door.

Ah k, i was worried that stuff would auto add to the group, then i will just stick to my original account, and start adding stuff...
-
Bayani:
Can I get a BOOT from the group? And then a NEW invite for my NEW account?
Old account: baquitania.deviantart.com
NEW account: xxLJxx.deviantart.com
I made the account to allow my cousins to see a gallery of only COH work. So I faved 200 pieces of my old work from 2006-2009, and I will be posting new 2010 COH art in there. My account ends on January 15th here, but I will return for Going Rogue...
Meantime I will be finishing my queue. -

Some useful stuff concerning Photoshop CS3:
Tool Bar breakdown
Tool Bar by version of Photoshop
Wacom Tute for Beginners - Author says it's outdated, but I think it still has some good points.
Painting Tute - Same author as above, expands his new style...
Wacom Basics - Very concise basic info on using a tablet.
Wacom set up for Painter and Photoshop comparison.
That should fill in some of the blanks, if you're looking for a certain kind of coloring tute, let me know... ie. Cell shading, comic style with cuts, or digital painting. Lastly, you should still learn about preparing your line work for coloring properly, AND in my opinion inking digitally... -
Quote:K it would help to know which exact tablet she has, AND what software and version...Does anyone know of or willing to make a "so you got your first wacom tablet, here is how in the hell the thing works" article? I've already seen you guys post some things that will be really helpful to my techno-shy sister. Once she gets it I know she gonna give me that look that says "now what" and if there was a nice place to point and say "here!, now go, do artz" I think that would make this bir-stma-duation present more complete.
To give you some perspective, she still hasn't set up a DA page even though I showed her the site over the summer...maybe this is techno-phobia...or more likely she just thinks I'm an idiot...which is well true. -
Congrats, looking forward to the rest of it...

Might have been pixelated cause you were using the Pencil Tool, which is designed to fill in color in exact 100 opaque pixels, unlike the Brush tool which gives you a variety of opacity in pixels, thus that smoother look...
Press "B" for the Brush tool, however if your preferences are set to change over and over, I forget the actual name of making them stable, maybe Liz can help me out. But I have them set so that each time you press a key, it will change to the next setting, but when I mess up, I just cycle through and keep it on what I need at the time. So sometimes if I press B twice, it will go from the Brush tool to the Pencil tool.
You can also just click on the Tool pad at the left for what you need.
But for a nice pencil "feel", I use a hard brush, which are the first series of brushes in the default brush group... then I set the Opacity to somewhere between 45-75 percent and this is the more important part, I set the Flow to somewhere between 25 - 35 percent. This is what I call the Eddy Swan method.
I don't know Pyro, you may need your own, I hate when my Dad plays with my toys. K that sounds wrong... -
Also customary to keep it under 800 x 800 pixels wide, for those of us that don't have 30" screens...
-
No that's okay. You've never actually paid me, so that's fine. Your site is obviously for paid commissions. Just so you know, the gravy train is over...

Quote:Well I just got the Bamboo Pen Tablet in today. I may open it up and try it out here at work.
My final deciding factor was that at $50 on sale (no tax no shipping for me) I could not pass it up. If it works out well then great! If it doesn't at least I didn't lose a ton of money on it. Also, if he likes it that much and gets advanced I will feel confident moving up to the more expensive variants.
Unfortunately it's a Christmas present so I won't be able to offer much in the way of review. Unless I do break down and test it here at work.
Yeah I just bought one for a friend in NY, came out to $63 with tax and free shipping. I am quite happy to send it to him, as he plans on taking up art for a living... he studied to be an architect, but his passion is Anime, and I remember him being quite good at it.
If you do test that puppy out, be sure to unwrap very carefully... that's what we did when we found our presents early, but I'll lie about that if you tell anyone. -
Naugh man, you crossed a line. I didn't talk about your mother. All I did is call you an Instigator. You fought dirty, you went too far. I'm not gonna be your friend anymore.

Below are the 5 images I used to make a piece for the toon Dirty Laundry:
Dirty Laundry Timeline
1) the obvious screen shot
2) a photo of the pose I wanted to do, simply explained, butt shot, over the shoulder, 3/4 profile
3) the initial sketch - which I didn't send to the client, as I felt it wasn't working. back to square one.
4) NEW Photo, better angle, easier to dress up, as the toon's outfit was form fitting. sorry for the black squares ya'll...
5) my OWN version of the toon, made in the comic creator - to get the angle on the clothing right.
6) a reference piece of art, was debating to use the pose, but it was too sexy, hair was wrong, angles were wrong...
I did STEAL the SAF (Scrunched *** Fabric) which I actually put in at the last moment.
7) my digital ink in Illustrator
8) my finished color in Painter and Photoshop
So you can see I had an original concept, I did borrow a lot from my model, my screen shots and another artist's reference...
In this case, because so many parts were sporadic and NOT perfect copies, I didn't give any credit. But I would say the final is more me than it is my reference.
My point to all of this is, A LOT of things go into the final work, some times more of you, sometimes less of you. Btw nice Juggy photo-manip pyro, I am digging the torso. But back to my point, one should NOT learn to draw exclusively from the reference, be that another artist, a photograph or even the live model. Your job as an artist is to interpret. To put down what you feel, not just what you see.
I think Juggy's piece qualifies as that kind of an interpretation. It may be too close for comfort, but is it classic Juggy style, well except for the pose, yes...
Also some of those Liefields were scary... and I agree with Wassy 100% on the naming of classic comic canon poses, i.e. the naming of the "SAF". -
the mother jokes are uncool... i am actually hurt.
