  1. Yeah yer other color scheme was more complimentary, so perhaps your original instincts were correct. Sheesh I only noticed now that her top was blue cause of all the blue around her... ugh I hate revisions. It worked before imho, and still works now.

  2. I like the Pale American piece myself... and Synchrotron, but I'm partial to your wimmens!

Always happy to draw another "lady", and I couldn't resist poaching this request from Alex's list no offense bro... it's just the costume was perfect for the tute I wanted to experiment with...

  4. Teaching art in the current system is a huge challenge, there are those who actually see merit in having your kids cut construction paper flowers like some kind of Chinese sweatshop.

On the other hand, in the grade school I student taught at, the homeroom teachers were crying out for new blood, so we did a lot of outside of the box art which I think helped them a great deal to look at art as something else then what you put on your refrigerator.

We had a comic book class for 6th graders after school, and I had to beat kids off with a stick from taking that class. I feel for your brother Tundara, and btw I love pie...

This forum has never seem to me, to be about critiques as a whole, I think it is foremost a fan art section by real lovers of the game. And on second thought, a nice starting platform for people wanting to learn to do this type of art.

To judge the work on the same criteria you would a painting is not the same thought process. The images here are mostly iconic, and other than perspective and anatomy, there is no universal criteria to compare with other types of art. That said, I 'm not saying that critiques shouldn't be given, it IS up to the artist to take it seriously, or not, be complacent or not.

A healthy discussion though is a good thing to strive for, and not just plain blatant criticism for the sake of posting.

I will not apologize for enjoying praise, but neither do I want to be coddled. I am humbled by the enormous amount of support here and with talent like Doug's, Alex's, and Suchiro's, how can one not listen when they chime in with an honest viewpoint.

Perhaps someone in the City Scoop could write an article on how to give a well thought out critique and how NOT to give one. And then a good follow up would be how to take that critique without freaking out. I'll need several copies of the latter...

    Beautifully painted, +watched & +fav'd!
  6. Liz (Syrus B) has cured me of pressing the shiny red button on unwanted members of the peanut gallery... so for now I try to take any and all critiques seriously as they come... though hopefully not often, as I hope I am getting better.

In your case, the Ta Da piece seems to be an aesthetic difference from the artist's original vision, so perhaps it's a matter of taste? I don't know unless you name names, and if it's me, then pm me quietly and allow me to focus the (sniper rifle of) attention elsewhere... just kidding.

I think all artists strive on praise, even if they don't want to admit it. Absolutely a critique helps them to push themselves, but if you only do work to get critiqued, then perhaps you're a glass is half empty kind of person...

I think in all such cases "politeness and etiquette" should be the norm. Simply walking into Mordor and telling Sauron to go jump off a volcanic cliff, well let's just say, he'd be in his rights to THWACK you thusly!

Telling an artist they could work on their anatomy, should try looking at reference, need to practice whatever can be done with a modicum of "good wording"... The internet is full of flame wars where cowardly puss like individuals can brandy about anything their miscreant hearts can think of, immune from polite society's norms, but it shouldn't be the case...

Really how hard is it to be well mannered?

  7. Thanks all, yeah my wife saw my inks and said, "ooooh I like that Wasp character, yeah you color that one up honey! Do it!"

It doesn't sound right, but read the "Do it!!" part over in your best Arnold screaming at the Predator voice... I had to comply.
  8. I'd love to do this, but my queue won't be free till next month... if you can wait, I'm game...

Tundara, anyone can be an Envisionary if they join on Liberty and play, that's step 1, step 2 you have covered posting on these boards, and step 3 is collecting and or making art...

The steps are interchangeable in order, but we might have to kick some alts to make room. If I ever make a forum one of these, remind me to shoot myself first!

Just kidding... actually I was gonna draw your toon as a surprise weeks ago, but I couldn't find a decent screenshot, and I didn't want to blow the surprise. Anyway, I won't be adding you to the big one, but perhaps this when it's done will appease you...
