Quote:Oh, I like you.thought it was the sound when you find the way to a man's heart - through his ribcage (angle up).
(ok not entirely true you reach around and put the blade up under the rib cage from the front, punctures lung, silent can't cry out or squeak or argh really - then into side of the throat, forward & down) -
Quote:What's really funny, here, people who've lived in Florida for several generations are called 'crackers'. We even have a yearly 'Florida Cracker Festival'. Yet, anywhere else in the US, cracker is a derogatory term for either white people in general or redneck/hicks.Florida is my favourite part of the US... In Winter.
And I truly hope it IS a beginning of the end of such issues, but things like this name issue REALLY don't help...
So technically, I'm a cracker in a good way to some and in a bad way to others. Heehee... it cracks me up though. I mean seriously, all I can do is laugh or go mad. -
FFM was here before... he knows... things...

Quote:I don't know for sure, and it's probably no consolation for the feelings, but after working in a large corporation for years, it's all about the numbers. Majority rules and all that. I doubt it has anything to do with who's from where. I mean, I'm in Florida... the laughingstock of the rest of the nation... the forerunner for all news that's weird... it's normal here.It blatantly sends out the message that US sensibilities are more important than EU ones.
Anyway, maybe the merging of the forums is the beginning of the end of the seperation issues? Hopefully. -
Quote:'Swish' is the sound of an evening gown while dancing the tango...Being from the east coast (in the US) i took "swish" as a variant of sports oriented lingo such as "nothing but net" "hole in one" "score" ... somewhat to the effect of a good job or something well done/done properly... i suppose "the new boards are swish" came across to me as "the new boards are well done/good looking"
not sure if there's a different meaning in san francisco or not. in any case, good to have some new faces (err... names) around!

Quote:I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you what I'd do in the same situation. PM Avatea with the details of what the name means to you and why you chose that avatar and ask for her opinion on how to keep your concept without offending anyone.Just received a notification from Avatea that my name and Avatar is causing some troubles. Apparently a spade is something offensive as well as a card 'color' and a tool to dig holes. My Avatar reminds people of an old theatre style. Now if they would take offense of me being a notorious villain I would not have minded.
As it is, my forumname and avatar will have to be changed due to 'cultural differences'
(even if the anyone are most likely a few nutcases that assume someone else would be offended and never really found offense themselves... yeah, that happens. It's annoying and frequently stupid but it happens. Someone sees a character in-game that they think would be offensive to someone else and /petitions them...)
So the best I can come up with is to explain the concept you're going for and ask how to keep that without bothering some... nutcases...
But! I did not say nutcases as I do not wish to offend my crazy brethren. -
I'm not your person but I'll give you a hello too. And a howdy!

Bennigans has a St Patty's drink that comes in a fishbowl looking thing. It's green... I'm not sure if that's the result of the number of liquors in there or what. One is supposed to serve 4, it comes with 4 straws but I can go through 3 of 'em in no time.

A thought hit me. When they shut down 'City of Hero' over in Korea, we absorbed them. Opening up the server lists to everyone wouldn't be much different than that, would it?
It is kinda neat seeing their language in broadcast. -

Quote:It's not that we don't understand you, we just want you to say again... slower this time...Eh Ramsay is an abberation to the norm...
...normal people say it about half as much as he does...we merely have other words to replace it though and depending on the location of the person from within England, slang words to replace those.
However...for some reason I have noticed Americans have a lot of trouble understanding a thick Yorkshire accent, coming from a family where we have a LOT of different accents in the family, namely the Yorkshire accent, the Somerset accent (C sounds more like Z and Cider becomes Zyder) and Liverpudlian means I've learnt to mimic these accents to a decent degree and enjoy the look on you Americans faces when I employ any one of them.
Apparently even my normal south london accent confuses some of you because I constantly got told to slow down when speaking because a South London accent uses a lot of slang terms (such as "ooh can I have a butchers at that?") but we speak fast and clip words, making it ruddy hard for anyone who has studied the English taught in other European schools to understand us and apparently Americans.
Oh and using the term 'swish' resulted in much confusion and some possible romance in the European lounge.
