LD Avenger

So I just returned to CoH after about a 8 month break and I have never really played a melee toon and was thinking a scrapper but I have no clue what are good combos. Looking for good AoE's if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for an Archtype I can solo with but it have ranged attacks. Also stumped on what power sets. Any advice would help.
