When we've told you that we're going to be testing the waters with many different offerings, including things like Rare IO's, Dual Inspirations, Enhancement Unslotters, etc, etc there is a reason for this. City of Heroes is not an easy game to devise consumable items for. Because we've made things like Inspirations drop like...well...candy, because there's such a negligible death penalty, because everyone has easy access to travel powers...the list goes on. Things that work well for other games (like a Rez power or traditional "potions") will not work for us. Our challenge is to design a consumable item that is not only affordable and fun, but also offers items that are appealing and desirable by our players.
Unleash your ideas! What might you buy every week or month or whatever if it were available (and appropriately priced)?

    - A token that allowed me to Respec power sets on a character.

    - A temp power that let me take a non-VIP along into VIP-exclusive content.

    - A temp power that functioned like Long-Range Teleport, but with a 'vehicle' animation/effect (van, hot rod, rune gate, roadster, flying saucer, Sentai motorcycle, etc): a duplicate of this power should also be available as an Invention.

    - A partial respec; something that let me drag an empty slot from one power to a power with less than five slots.

    - An IO crafting table.

...anything you have been thinking, "...why don't they have this yet?"

Personally, I was surprised to see enemies with level shifts at all.
Understandable, but my understanding is that AE notwithstanding, critters don't have to follow the same rules we do for hp and similar.

But it's no biggie either way.

MoM lets you start with 8. You would probably need a very handpicked and well built 8 to succeed with that few, though.

Come to Beta and test it out! I am usually on Beta waiting for a chance to run it between 6pm and 7pm Mountain time, Mon-Fri.

It needs tweaks, but it's not going to get the right ones without testing.

Just a nitpick. NPCs have always been able to outlevel the players, although level 50 is the top level of the game.

It has always bothered me to encounter level 54 critters when I can only reach level 50, but I understood it from a mechanics viewpoint.

Now that critters can be level shifted, it seems better to cap them at level 50 and use level shifts to get them to whatever power level they need to be challenging.

Possible, but doing either of those kind of deflates the point of having a level shift in the first place.

Anyone know why foes are ranging up to 54, instead of 50 +whatever?
  7. It specifically says Incarnate Shifts only work in Incarnate Trials right on the power, so my default expectation is that they will not be available for street sweeping.

Now there could be 'trial zones' or something added to Dark Astoria, and I'm expecting at least one repeatable 'mini Trial' that lets us flex our Incarnate muscles.
  8. If there is an Incarnate Path that does not allow teaming, then I hope some interesting tech has been invented that allows you to balance content based on the build (not AT) of the player.

It is notable that Blade was devoid of any Marvel Universe continuity. In print, I think the continuity worked against the Blade character. Dracula has been around for a long time in Marvel Comics and has even had his own successful title, so it may have been hard to create a jumping on point that both print and movie fans could bind to.

For another thing, in his own movie universe, Blade can be the end-all, be-all bad mothershutyourmouth. Not as much in a universe populated with the likes of Iron Man and Doctor Strange.

I think a movie Marvel Universe reboot of Blade with continuity could work, but the feel of the character and threats would be necessarily different.
  10. Well I would expect any ingame Incarnate storyline to contain elements of the ingame source of Incarnate powers.

Just ignore it, the way you ignore the fact that your robot/divine/spirit/elemental characters can catch the Vazhilok disease or have DNA samples taken or be cloned
  11. Thanks, GG. All good news, in my opinion.

    Now, about that fog...

    Tangent:

The breakthrough comic-book movie that led directly to X-Men, IMHO was Blade.
  15. Still, it's a good sub-question: what kind of reward output rate are you expecting in the solo path per 20 hours of gameplay in that path only?

    Emerits: 0
    Amerits: 1
    VR Salvage: 0
    R Salvage: 1
    C Salvage: 2
    U Salvage: 4
    Threads: 50
    Shards: 10
    inf : 20 million

I also expect about 5 new Badges.

I also expect the content to initially consist of around 5 new unique missions, with more to be added in the future at about 1 per month.

Some (5 or so) existing missions will also be co-opted to help with content.

Anyone else want to make predictions?

  17. I think any distinction between a solo Incarnate path and solo Incarnate content is... well, something I need explained to me.

You can already become an Incarnate (open the Alpha Slot) solo.

To me a solo Incarnate path just means a way to open the other slots and acquire the salvage needed to craft the abilities: threads and Astral Merits.

    Which technically we already have.
  18. It was either butt or bewbs. I am pleased with the decision they made.

Also, Sam Jackson/Nick Fury has a different pose. Maybe you have to face a different way if you aren't a caucasian male?

You mistake my intent, young grasshopper.

I do not suggest that the changes to 4e were the correct way of doing things, rather the opposite.

I personally like 4e. I would like it more and play it more if it did not say, "Dungeons and Dragons" on the box. I call it 'The American Godzilla of rpgs'.

It is indeed Yin to prefer simpler game mechanics, so that you can concentrate on the storytelling and characters.

It is Yang to truly enjoy and obsess over probabilities and ways to min/max.

It is Yin to prefer character generation in the vein of, "I want a character that is a streetwise theif from the mean streets that has yet to lose all of his faith in humanity and is truly seeking a Hero to admire."

It is Yang to prefer character generation in the vein of, "I want to trade off wearing heavy expensive armor for having a high Dexterity and being able to avoid counterattack completely by one-shotting my opponent with backstab damage."

Truly I have met people of either sex with various mixtures of Yin and Yang.

It is indeed a wise manufacturer who invests in pleasing both audiences, at the cost of neither.

    Om.

I also beleive that an artist should follow their own vision and do what pleases them, not some hypothetical audience.

Unless the artist in question, for whatever commercial reasons, has already decided to attempt to appeal to a given audience. Then by all means, they should create a product designed to appeal to the audience they are courting.

I have no doubt that the people who work on, say, the Avengers comics are artists who want to do whatever makes Avengers stories great without restriction. But they are restricted; by the suits and the bean counters. The product is commercial by design. That's why characters can't stay dead. That's why we see Wolverine Proliferation and Massive Crossovers and all that. That's why a given writer can't just say, "here is where the story of the Avengers ends" or make any change to the comic that some other writer or editor can't come along and retcon with "Mephisto makes everyone forget."

In that particular environment (as opposed to say, independent comics or webcomics or fanfiction) it behooves you to have products for every audience that you can afford to produce for.

No one cares if creators of independent comics or webcomics stuff women in refrigerators, because they aren't shooting themselves in the foot by doing so.

    In other news:

I think I have figured out the entire reason for WiR: it is performed instead of divorce. I'm (semi-) serious.

  24. I expect something like Tip missions.

I hope for the announcement of an entire Incarnate Zone.
