I won't call myself an expert (not even close) as I just rolled my first MM and I'm also playing a DS/Pain (lvl 30 currently). Personally I pushed Share the pain much later in the build (haven't taken it yet, likely at 41). I did not take the player rez power yet either (may never take it). I decided to take the leadership pool instead (Maneuvers, Assault, and Tactics). I probably don't need all 3, but I figured what the heck, I have my own team so why not.
I think it all depends on the type of MM you're building. If you want a "Tankermind" then you're likely to build different than a MM who wants to sit in the back and direct his henchmen.
As for sets, I'm still trying to figure that one out. Blood mandate from the pet sets is nice, and I think I'll 6 slot that at least once, maybe even twice. I'm putting all 4 of the "aura" enhancements into Hell on Earth. The auras are nice and provide a total of 20% resists and 10% def for the pets. Stack that with the inherent resists, ember demon resist aura, World of Pain, and maneuvers and hopefully the little guys will stay alive long enough most of the time. I can't enh in HoE much that way, but my thinking was that the improved survivability would make up for it and allows me to use the slots in the other pets for maximum benefit.
I doubt I've helped much, but there it is anyway...

I've actually been wondering the same thing myself. I had naively assumed that the prince would be the best place for Hell on Earth since he's the highest level, etc. But looking at the numbers for the pet attacks, I just don't see it. Hellfire demon has more true attacks many of which have higher damage per cast cycle numbers than the Prince attacks. The Demon Prince does have a couple of heavy hitters, but as you said he seems to be more control focused than damage.
Quote:Of course neither of these things do any significant damage so they don't benefit from a damage bonus. And while the Demon Prince can eventually hold a boss, his hold is not capable of holding a boss in a single hit. The Demon Prince hold is only mag 3, so for bosses you've got to stack two holds (need a mag 4 for a boss). Now his holds do stack nicely with like 19s duration and 8s recharge, but that boss is still up and kicking for those first 8s at least.Demon Prince holds bosses, slows spawns
Hopefully someone who's run the numbers or even just empirical data based on experience will speak up. -
Thought I'd come back here to post the "solution" that I figured out to work around my problem.
There are a couple of pet commands that let you fix the pet names. The two that I use are:
/clear_petnames
/petrename_name
I created a couple of binds that first resets the pet names and then a second that sets them back up the way I want. I tried to combine the clear and rename in a single bind, but the order and timing of the commands didn't seem to work well. Maybe it can be done, but I didn't feel like spending a lot of time fixing it since the alternative was so easy.
I put my binds in a file and used /bind_load_file to load them just for easier editing. Here is what my file looks like:
Quote:I've tested this on my Demons Mastermind and it seems to work every time. The demons will resummon out of order after zoning, but a quick two key combo will fix their names.[ clear_petnames
] "petrename_name "Fiery Demonling" "Roasty Toasty"$$petrename_name "Cold Demonling" "Snowball"$$petrename_name "Hellfire Demonling" "Lil Smokey""
I thought I tried the /petcom_name command with the Demon's default name after being renamed and I didn't think that it took the command, but perhaps I just typed something wrong. That and I really don't want my firey demonling walking around with the name "Snowball". -
Quote:Right, I did notice that they basically are resummoned on zoning. It's particularly noticeable when you level in a mission and on zoning the pets get bumped up a level that normally only happens when summoned. However I've never seen the names on the wrong pets when summoning them myself. But as I said, I've just started playing a MM so my experience is limited. The order of the names in my pet dialog is constant, but the order they are summoned on zoning is not, hence the mixed up names.I think the issue is that, technically speaking, pets don't actually zone with you. Rather, they get resummoned (and enhanced) whenever you zone, at no cost from you.
This is why Thugs pets can suddenly look much different. And why names get scrambled, as the order that the pets get resummoned does not seem to be the same as the order you get them in. This is most noticeable on the demonlings, because each one is unique.
Of course, I seem to recall seeing the names get scrambled when I summon them myself, so there may be something more to it.

Thanks for the response. I figured as much. I'll just dismiss/resummon as you suggest if I want to work around it.
Thanks.

Is there a known issue with Demon Summoning MMs where the names of the demonlings rotate if you give them custom names? I've just started playing my first MM, and when I got my second demonling I renamed them both. Then after EVERY zone the names would swap places. So every other time I zoned they were "correct". If I dismiss them all and summon them again the names are correct again. I've just hit 18 and with 3 demonlings the problem seems more complex. I haven't figured out the new pattern yet, but the names do rotate in some manner, usually two are swapped but one is correct, but I'm not sure it's always that way (I just made lvl 18).
I searched here and I only found one reference from a year ago about rotating names. Is this a known issue? I'm assuming others see it as well, but I'd like to confirm that.
Also, is there any way to "reset" the names? Respec? If the default names were consistent through zoning, I'd give up the custom ones so I could make macros/binds that do what I want.
Thanks,
