Managed to get a scrapper up to level 22, a blaster up to 11 and corrupter up to... I forget. Somewhere in the teens.
Which is saying something, because I have a habit of swapping characters at the drop of a hat. -
Is 'grats' all anyone can say? Well, if no one else will say it, I will!
Scooby, there's only one way to top yourself: Go do the Incarnate arc solo, get yourself an Alpha slot enhancement and keep getting stronger. Excelsior! ;p
But seriously, you're great. Don't let go of that feeling of accomplishment.
(I hit level 50 less than two weeks ago. I'm still giddy.) -
Quote:Aw, but it's got that wretched hive of scum and villainy feel!Yeah, recent stats have shown that only 26% of the game is pure villains. And I can't imagine a reason why Rogues would want to stay in RI given that Paragon is much more active and looks a bit less ugly, IMHO.
'Course, I've got two villains working their way towards Rogue... -
Quote:Batman Beyond, he actually does retire. 'Course, it took him breaking his number one personal rule to do it as well as being near handicapped, but hey. Even Batman has limits. (Though I don't think that's in the comic book continuity...)Agreed... but it sometimes gets weird if some members of a major team are more tied to a single civilian identity than others. I think it's safe to say, no matter how many times Bruce Wayne may appear to have passed the cape along to someone else, he'll be back as Batman before a couple years pass. And likewise, there will never be another Superman. But how many Green Lanterns have the two of them been teammates with by now?
Isn't Superman effectively immortal by now? I mean, he's survived this long with kryptonite being as common as dirt in the DCU. Plus surviving however many magic-based villains he's dealt with. -
See, I'm all for legacy characters. They don't have to cancel their comic, they get to keep their trademarked or whatever name and the death can still have impact so long as the replacement isn't a carbon copy of the original.
-
"Oh no! Someone who routinely rights super villains and puts their life in danger all the time died! How shocking!"
Pft. He'll be back. It's impossible to get emotional about super heroes dying these days. If they're well liked, they're coming back. Never fails. Especially since we're talking about the Fantastic Four. A team that's build heavily around that family-slash-team close knit dynamic. The writers would sooner hang themselves then permanently piss off fans.
I still love 'em, but seriously. They should learn by now that hitting that reset button kills any drama. -
...Am I the only one that finds it amusing that this question was posted on the Virtue sub-forum? It gave me a chuckle.
Anyway, my two cents? Start out on Virtue. I've met a lot of nice folks here. Go to Freedom if PvP interests you, since that seems to have the higher PvPer population. And, if your computer isn't the best, keep an alt or two on a less used server. I've got a couple over on Victory that I play when Virtue gets packed. -
Quote:Hm, I don't suppose any Deep Ones would be playing CoH... I'm sure they'd appreciate Mako.As far as I'm aware, no. Only time I've ever seen it happen is due to a petition over the SG name violating the terms of service.
Kind of a shame... it's not that I don't love the Captain Mako Appreciation Society and Scrapbooking Club, but now that I've got almost six million prestige dumped into it I sometimes wish I could rework the concept to be something other people would actually want to join... -
Quote:Of course, how often do you see vampires and werewolves just standing around on street corners in the Marvel universe?I'm no WoD player by any means but just compare Blade to the rest of the Marvel cast. Different scenarios and settings in the same universe.
Personal opinion: Anyone trying to keep up a masquerade like in WoD while there are aliens shooting up the neighborhood regularly, other aliens frequently bonding with humans, everyone and their brother out on the street busting Skulls and at least one cult only summoning demons, well... They're just plain stupid. -
Name: Vanglorian Federation
Currently Recruiting: Currently recruiting new members as well as searching for like minded SGs for coalitions.
RP Level: Roleplaying is encouraged, but not mandatory. The only caveat is that all in-character grudges are left in character. Out of character, everyone is expected to get along.
PvP Level: Casual (No one has shown much interest in it as of yet.)
Theme/Concept: The Vanglorian Federation is an elite combat unit of supers and highly trained individuals who perform (strictly 'good guy') mercenary work and also work for free if the greater good is at risk.
We also seek out promising new members to train.
Activity: We have about a half dozen players with several having alts in the SG.
We don't have a 'prime time' that I'm aware of, but I tend to play either after 6pm or between 10am and 2pm, primarily. (All times in Eastern Standard)
Requirements for Membership: Members must be polite and respectful of each other (when out of character, at least) as well as being respectful of non-SG players.
There are no level requirements to join.
While not mandatory, members should log in at least once or week or they may run the risk of being removed from the group. That doesn't mean they will be removed, it simply means they might.
Leadership: Kiana Wolf (Leader), Cyber-Ninja (second in command)
In-Game Contact(s): Kiana Wolf (@Broken Key)
Out-of-Game Contact(s): Kiana Wolf (CoH forums)
Other Details: Our base has a medical facility, well equipped workshop and teleporters to half the city. (Regardless of where you want to go, we'll be able to get you within one zone of the target.) We also have some cots, set up at the request of one member. (I don't know, maybe you want to role play taking nap after a hard day?)
TFs don't have any sort of schedule as of yet, though I'm looking to set up one.
Members are not required to build up Prestige for the SG, but it is appreciated. Prestige is also one factor determining promotion, if that matters to you.
Uniform: If you wish to wear the Vanglorian's (new) uniform, I'll list the details here. It isn't mandatory.
Head: Hats
* Face: (Mask) Stealth
* Hat: Alpha
* Detail 1: Maverick Goggles
* Detail 2: Breather 6
Upper Body: Tight
* Chest: Stealth/Stealth
* Shoulders: Clockwork Lite
* Chest Detail: Clockwork
* Gloves: Overguard
* Belt: Tactical 1
Lower Body: Tight
* Bottom: Stealth/Stealth
* Boots: Overguard
Back Detail: Full Mantle
* Broach: None
* Cape: Long Cape/Starshot
Primary Color: Black (A1)
Secondary Color: Red (B5)
This is across the whole costume. If you would like to add some extra color, E8 (yellow/tan) is another of the SG's colors. Or you could just use any color you want. Customization is definitely allowed. If you want different shoulders or something, feel free to adjust the uniform to your tastes.

The temporary auto-powers you get for that mission made me chuckle.
Though the fact that one of them gives unresistable damage over time... HIGH damage over time... Makes it kinda less awesome in a way. You can hit one of them with your weakest power, sit back and watch as they lose about 250 HP per second for... a very long time after that. I never actually saw the effect stop.
Seems less natural than, say, doubling your base damage or something... -
Though that just leaps straight into pyrokinesis.
-
While it's in character for my main character to kill Rikti and to use lethal force against most threats, she's not the type to kill someone surrendering. She doesn't kill the helpless, no matter how much of an aggravating pain in the **** they may be.

Quote:Indeed. I liked how it was (theoretically) soloable. I also like how the way Incarnate salvage works means you don't have to play TFs to take advantage of it, that's simply a faster method. It fits in with pretty much any play style, that way.Now, so long as they continue to make a solo path available for all the Incarnate material, for the sake of those characters for whom Incarnation is a personal journey, I will stay very happy with it.
I even like how the slow gathering of incarnate salvage feels like you're taking little bits of power from the enemies you defeat, slowly building up your own.
And, again, it's good that people who want it to be a personal journey have the option. It's also good that people who want to team up and grow stronger together... Through really, that was pretty much a guaranteed option. -

Quote:Could use gravity control for the sake of powers. It can all double as telekinesis. Throwing around your enemies? Check. Restraining them with (invisible) forces? Check. Throwing large, heavy things at them? Check.I'm trying to create a telekinetic character, who is not psychic. He can't read mind or get inside peoples heads.
But there is no real telekinetic set obviously, there are psychic set with telekinetic powers.
anyway so anyadvice on creating a convincing TK set?
EDIT: Also, the Energy powersets. (Energy Manipulation and Energy Blast, both) could also work. Being high in knockback and all. That's if you'd rather be a Blaster then a Controller, of course. For a 'troller secondary, I'd suggest either Kinetic or Force Field. Both lend themselves pretty well to that sort of thing. -

Quote:Oh yeah. It's in my character's backstory that pretty much 90% of the 'hero' work she does is bashing Rikti heads over at the war zone.And especially for my former Vanguard scientist, beating the crap out of Holtz and reclaiming the Honoree was one of her Crowning Moments of Awesome. (Especially when she and her HVAS went to town on the Rikti...) I was totally cheering her on.
So five portals spewing Rikti? The in character response was somewhere between 'Just another day at the office' and 'I beat more of these clowns before breakfast!'
So very, very fulfilling. -
Quote:Well, if it brings out the end of the universe... Or at least the world... There are certainly worse ways to go.That reminds me of the time I tried to get the Devs to introduce a d10 emote so characters in City of Heroes could play the City of Heroes RPG in the game. In retrospect, I'm glad they didn't, because I'm pretty certain that amount of concentrated geekiness would have caused a Quantum Nerdularity.

Quote:Well, Echoes of pretty much every big bad in the game.[..] i loved the first mish with you pretty much smooshing every big bad in the entire game solo.
I actually liked that approach. The echoes could be equal to, greater than or less than the power of the real deal, but since it doesn't come right out and say so... Less chance of someone calling foul once they unlock all the Incarnate slots? ;p
Never the less, it is still awesome. And the description on the giant... heh... Fighting Hamidon solo. Just the thought is hilarious.
I would really appreciate it if we kept the arguments to a minimum. This is intended to be about praise and sharing fun stories. At least keep it limited to friendly discussion... -
Oh dear lord, now I'm imagining someone playing a Red Mage expy. (8-Bit Theatre, if anyone happens to have not caught that...)
-
Thank you.
That isn't the problem. The problem is how the majority of replies have been focused entirely on one part of the arc, when I was hoping to make a thread where people could come in and give their opinions on the whole thing. -
Quote:I was aware of his minions being the source of his high regen. The problem? Every time I killed off his minions, he'd summon up some more within ten seconds. Even with my best powers and punching him constantly while he's going through the 'bifuricating' animation, he'd still regen to full by the time I killed off the next set of minions. Best I could manage was to get him to about 75% health.I think not everyone realises that most of his regen comes from his summoned minions. Also, not everyone is optimised for single-target killing, would would affect killing those minions fast, which then would affect how much uber-regen he gets per cycle..
I even checked out the Paragon wiki. It suggested luring him into the magma... Which I tried. But there's a bit of a problem there: It's really rather hard to keep him in the magma when I lack any kind of hold. He was completely immune to my disorients and my crippling axe kick... So that once I got him in there, he'd hop right back out.
...Also, why has the entire thread been about Trapdoor? I spent the majority of my first post talking about how great and fun the rest of the arc was!
