    As an example:

    Take Alice (yeah, from Wonderland)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting fact: Alice in Wonderland is a non-copyrighted text (copyright only exists for limited period of time y'see)... Having a character exactly like Alice would not actually be breaking the EULA as no-one can claim that you are subverting their copyright.
  2. Don't take the wrong way, but... Just chill!

You seem to be getting yourself wound up about something pretty unimportant...

    Now, advice:
Everyone has different ways of coming up with their characters. Some people work out in depth what their character is going to be like, others (like me) wing it for a few sessions before slotting personality etc. in to place. Some look to existing characters for inspiration, some just pluck concepts from the air. Plus there is the whole spectrum of options in between those...

You have to figure out what works best for you.
  3. I don't think you need go as far as retconning a character. CT has not had any of the over-arching metaplots that crop up at GG rather frequently so there is no continuity that needs changed. Just change how you play him...

I've done that with the character I used to take to GG all the time more than once, and no-one has ever really noticed...
  4. Hmmm. I'm wary of the word "rules"... Too many and it'll become unattractive... Guidelines possibly and a couple of basic rules...

    1. RP is meant to be enjoyable, for everyone present. If another player asks you politely to stop doing something, please stop.
    2. Godmoding may be fun for you, but other players will find it terribly dull, and likely irritating. Don't do it.

As a guideline I'd ask that MMs keep their pet numbers down, please? Laggy game not fun even when just RPing.
  5. Yes.

The free gifts are for the players, not the characters. What good would doughnuts be to a bunch of pixels? Honestly. Some people just don't think things through...
  6. Don't worry RC. It's up and running, and as people have said, last night was quiet on both games.

And besides, the less people that attend, the less we have to share the Super-Scrumptious Chocolate Doughnuts of Deliciousness™ that we get at the Clocktower. Oh yes. Only available at the Clocktower... You get a free kitten too...
  7. Just thinking, do we want to have a GG-esque thread? If we do, I think it should be posted here in the RP forum rather than the general villains forum... Although I must say I'm not sure we really need to actually have one...
  8. Hmmm... I'll come along... 10pm tonight, eh?

I've set up a CTOOC global group if people want it...

or let her become a scotbot

    [/ QUOTE ]

What's wrong with becoming a Scotbot?
  10. Kelvinbridge

    Guidelines?

I would add that you should never put someone else's character in a position where they do not have the choice of how to react. Sometimes called godmoding...

Example: Character A punches character B in the face.

This is godmoding as character B's player has no choice but to have the character punched in the face.

Better to put: Character A swings a punch towards character B's face.

Now character B's player can choose to be hit or not.

Of course it's often best if you do reach that sort of situation to go over it first in tells with the other player...

Hehe, my Malkavian destroyed a third of Nottingham via Ebola and was about to napalm Sherwood Forest due to the same dementia.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I had a Malk that loved plants... But had touch of frost, so they all died when he got too close...
  12. The closest to an uber-character I have had is the long running line of Scotbots.

This probably comes as news to most people who think that they're nothing more than a glorified vending machine...

The concept of the Scotbots is that they use a IID (Infinite Improbability Drive, for those who might not know) to create whatever it is that is requested. No matter how improbable it is, a Scotbot can theoretically make it.

However this is limited by all sorts of factors, primarily that the Scotbots are generally obstinate except where it comes to the production of drinks or food.

Secondly they have learned that doing certain things is Not Done.

Thirdly they are made by Sirius Cybernetics Corporation after all...

Of course no-one really takes advantage of this at all, because most people don't actually realise the Scotbots can do this.

Yeah I'm late in the welcome, but hey, save the best until last I guess.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Oh dear, you're not last.

If you do go to GG, and I also choose that day to attend GG, thou shalt be accosted...

    Not in a bad way.
  14. Today was my late night at work day, hence my no-show.
  15. I think it's Frozen's or Darkie's characters that have kept it in the semi-existant state it's in... I still have Spear, but I've given up on CoH and only play CoV now.

The only reason I have for keeping Spear is the amount of time I put in to getting him to where he is now...
  16. Right, another week of villainousness complete... What's going to be the level cap? Bearing in mind there are people now at 10...

    Teenage heroes

    [ QUOTE ]
So was it a case of a couple of teenage heroes chatting, then someone's friend thought "what a great idea!" and created a teen hero to join in, and pretty soon people were creating teen heroes specifically for the RG?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. The teen heroes were created first, only after several weeks did we consider forming a group. We didn't create characters for the group, we made the group for the characters.

Edit: The "frosty teen" was Iceqube...

    Teenage heroes

I guess the thing is that we went there as heroes, not as teenagers. If you get what I mean... This was about a year ago, and GG was quite different then to how it is now. Each went along to be pleasantly surprised to find other teen heroes attending...

I'm sure you'll cobble something together... But you wouldn't be able to use Pocket D, you'd all be underage!

    Teenage heroes

    Doublethink!

It's a fix, you know it's a fix. But you also know it's not a fix, it's coincidence.

    Doublethink is doubleplusgood.

That's why I was saying organise it all OOC. And how the teens that became the RG got away from the adults was by getting Up-n-Away burgers then sitting on the grass... Then they moved to KR... Let go of the slavish following of totally IC, fudge a bit.
  20. Kelvinbridge

    Teenage heroes

Um... Can't say I ever did that...

I'm not saying you can't do that too... I was just giving ideas based on how to make a teen hero group based on how the RG came about.
  21. Kelvinbridge

    Teenage heroes

Noooooo! No IC! No IC organisation whatsoever!

If you organise IC then you're constructing something before the people get to know each other!

The whole thing is an OOC contrivance. You know what you're up to, but as far as your character is concerned there just happens to be lots of teens at the same time for no explainable reason.

    Don't force the friendship...
  22. Kelvinbridge

    Teenage heroes

    [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, definately.. I tend to hang around their looking like a lost sheep anyway. How do you wanna arrange it? A notice on a social board at school?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, part of my point is that it isn't arranged IC... It's an OOC-organised state of IC serendipity. Just totally coincidentally all these teen heroes happen to turn up at the same time on the same day. They get talking with one another and friendships start up, and then maybe, after a few weeks, they might say "Hey, why don't we all sign up as a supergroup together?"

    So it's more:

    Strangers => Friends => Group

    Rather than:

Strangers => Group => Not all friends

    See?

    [ QUOTE ]
Actually there is no IC reason another group could use the name, as the name is still in use.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since when it is impossible for one group to steal another one's name ICly? X-Statix sure as hell did it to X-Force, took over X-Force's name against X-Force's wishes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's been impossible since the beginning of the game. For RPers and gamers alike.

Let's think, how is it impossible...

Because in this game, the city authorities don't allow two groups to use the same name. The city records still show that there are heroes registered as part of the Rooftop Generation. As far as the city is concerned, the RG is still a registered SG, so no-one else can call themselves that. QED.

It doesn't matter if it can be and is done in the comics, it can't be done here. End of story.

    Ironclad...
Maybe you should organise a day that people with teen characters bring them along, not for some supposed IC meeting, but just a purely OOC decision to play that teen alt on that particular day and just see if you can form friendships.

So it's not pure IC RP, but you'll have to twist things a little to get something moving. It seems there are a few people interested, now you just need to whip them to do something!

    Generation Next

    [/ QUOTE ]

Product Placement! That's an old Pepsi strapline...

Here's a little bit of idea for you making a teen group...

I know the current fad is to say on the boards "Hey let's make a group, sign here if interested", but perhaps if you're looking to have a group like the RG you should form in a similar way...?

The characters that made the RG had hung around at the statue and got to know one another before the group formed. They had started to go off and do their own thing (eating fast food on a rooftop in KR) and it was only after all that that they decided to consider bonding together as a formal supergroup. They were a band of friends that became a group, not a group of strangers that attempt to become friends.

thanks for the compliment on the name but it makes no sense for another group to use RGs name.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sense could be made a-plenty. Tons of reasons could be conceived why another group might ICly use the name. (My personal favorite idea is a villain supergroup who takes the name because they want to tarnish it.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually there is no IC reason another group could use the name, as the name is still in use.

    Brighteyes' statement is completely correct.
