  1. Thanks DJ. Honestly, I think this is my best to date. I'm hoping it raised the bar for me.
  2. LMAO, man, buy me some too cuz your comments are making me...um... nm

  3. Also, I just thought I'd update with how I plan to lay out the lighting.

Anyone else keeping track of how long this is taking?

Do you clean up your sketches before posting them? I ask because I've watched artist draw their figures and usually the sketches are messy and filled with notes to let the artist know where a feature is going to be placed so he doesn't loose the concept he has in mind. Like they'll draw a circle were the hand should be and have like an outline on the face for eye and nose placement. The initial sketch is usually rushed to get their idea on paper. To other people they look like scribble, lol. Your sketches are very clean and very clear, it's very easy to picture what the end product will look like. You must have a steal trap as a memory my friend.

Looks great, can't wait to see this finished!

My sketches can vary. Sometimes it looks like a bowl full of smarties (circles everywhere) and other times it's clean. This time I knew the placement of a lot of things; the client gave me some good references and I knew the specific outlay of what I wanted. But if you notice, things like the eyes are just roughed in, they're not really in the shape that they'll end up in (at least I hope not).

Wow, I think I peed a little bit! Just one "nit pick", the hair should be a bit longer. (For those that don't know, Pallequin is one of my alts). Thanks for the update Juggs!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's an easy fix man.

Actually the hair is usually done in one of the last stages. If I try to rough it in the outline, things get goofy on me (so your character might just be bald for one stage).
  6. This is a work in progress for the hero Pallequin . I thought I'd show the different stages of his development.

Stage one is the sketch, or blue . I was asked to include the main character and a number of mages lying at his feet. I thought I'd go one better and have them melted into the ground. As well, I thought it needed a little bit o' mood. For that I added a surprise visitor.

Unlike how I normally update my pics, I'm going to keep them on this one thread but seperate in my DA page. That way you can have a better understanding of the stages.

  7. I just watched that movie again... great job they did with it.
  8. Aye, that is just the outline.
  9. Yeah, I hope he is cool with that swipe. I thought it was fitting.
  10. Yup, I htink Graver is right. I'd like to see a red somewhere welse. even if it's just a residual reflection from his uniform, it needs to be in this pic.
  11. I love it man. And yeah, I like bowmen too CB.

There is one thing I want to say though... and as always, it's tough to critisize DJ cuz he is the 3D god but...

I feel like your last few pieces have been a little too clean. That is to say, the chracters have stood too far out of the background IMO.

It might just be me but the work you did on Chief Justice and Val Halla was of a little better quality. (and when i say this, I mean the difference between 99% and 100%)

I'm going to explain that more...
I know you've technically gotten a lot better (Juggertha's face for example), and in no way are your pieces lacking... it's just that those two I mention seemed a little more polished. The characters seem like they are actually in the scene, in the environment, and thus more real. Some of the newer ones seem a little removed from their surroundings. Perhaps it's the colors chosen, I'm not sure.

Man, it might just be me, so take it as one comment. But if you look back and notice the same thing.. cool.

  12. As you guys might have noticed, our resident water (color) boy painted a stompin' picture of Heaven and Hell (a Demon/Angel love affair).

Not to be outdone, I've decided to give ti a whirl as well.. only a century in the future (weren't expecting THAT were ya?)!!

Here is the WIP of Heaven and Hell II. I plan to make it massive, with sun streaming through the clouds and (possibly) a burned out futuristic city below.

    What do ya think?
  13. Hey all, I just thought I'd post up here my final version of Striking Speedster for your (possible) enjoyment.

Yeah, it's tough to track down. Hopefully he'll throw them all in one page. (I'd like to see a massive collection of these types of characters - I'd add to that)

Doing this brought back the art bug. I'm thinking it's about time I worked up a Batman or something. I don't think I've drawn him since I was twelve.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The art bug is a good thing to catch. I cought it again 10 months ago and haven't looked back. Good luck man and keep 'em comin.
  20. Just thought I'd bump this up... a day before the deadline.

Juggertha- I love this piece! I'm really blown away by your skills and I appreciate the work you've put into this Art Trade! Everything from the figure itself to the background and the text is extremely well done.

And let me take this opportunity to compliment your latest piece of Bellonda and Otis. Beautiful pose and detail!

HERE'S the beginnings of my Art Trade piece, which still needs color.

Again, these art trades are a blast.

Thanks bud, but don't save this one yet. I think the face got a little smushed by my shading.. I want to clean that up this weekend.
