It is a logical answer. I'm a fairly casual player. The current system works because there is a multitude of easily acquired IOs that will give you a solid build for kicking some serious butt available to even the most casual of players and without raiding or serious time commitments. The current system works because there are some plum drops you can -- again -- acquire solo and via casual playing which allow you to slowly increase the strength of your lvl 50s which keeps some interest in playing your 50s. The fact that you can't get all of those drops immediately is not a game flaw. The fact that you can't easily buy them is not a game flaw. The fact that those drops only marginally increase your performance (and in a game designed around SOs where even a frankenslotted player should stomp mobs regularly) validate the lack of need to hand them out like candy or force their availability to other players.

I've played games where there's a legitimate gulf between casual players in their Battered Tin Breastplate of Smoldering Embers and the "hard core" players in their Gleaming Mithril Breastplate of Roaring Inferos and the only way to feel like less of a chump was to start raiding full time for the chance to one day have that sort of gear. City of Heroes isn't that game.
  3. Hey, awesome work! A deserving tribute.

Desert Owl has a great costume. We stood next to one another in a CC once and messaged each other with mutual admiration.

And last week we got bored and decided to stand under Atlas and see how many people we could get to line up with us under the assumption that there was a costume contest starting

Let me clue you in to a little fact. Most people who get this game want to create and run characters. Most of the people who play this game want to earn rewards with their characters.
Hi. As someone around the 54 month mark (had some breaks in there since my original join date), please stop presuming to speak for when others are having "fun" or what we need to have "fun". I don't need purpled out characters to have "fun". I don't need PVP IOs to have "fun". I have "fun" on a host of characters with standard set IO builds or frankenslotted characters. I feel powerful on those characters when I can run a x8 mission solo and survive. I don't need to solo GMs or take down pylons before I'm having "fun".

Maybe the people here aren't the ones who need to be reminded of what "fun" is.
  5. Aside from some PVP IOs, what's selling for 2bil+ per enhancement?
  6. All the usual stuff about customization, game play, costumes, community, etc...

And also because it fits my life. I can play in 10 minute bursts if I need to because of real life interruptions. I can progress by playing in 10 minute bursts rather than not being able to accomplish anything in under an hour. If I have a solid block of time to myself, I can join a task force or knock out a mission arc. If I don't, I can run tips or single arc missions or radios. I can be in a mission, need to get up and leave myself standing there for twenty minutes if it comes to it and rarely die as a result (your occasional patrol in mission). When I do, I don't feel like I've just lost three days worth of progress due to onerous death penalties. In short, I can play it to have fun and not as a commitment. I've played the commitment MMORPGs before and they were good times when I was single and could spend eight hours raiding or camping a spawn point for the Girdle of Goblin-Punching but that's not my life these days and CoH fits who I am today.

Again, "doubled their revenue" is a meaningless phrase without looking at the whole picture. If I'm making $500,000 at my job, then I'm fired and get a job for $15,000 where I'm then promoted to making $30,000 I've just "doubled my income". Bragging to my friends that being a corporate lawyer is for chumps when you can "double your income" while working in a grocery store still wouldn't make much sense.

I haven't seen a layout of revenue per year for said game and so I have to take "doubled revenue" with a healthy grain of salt. Also, the lesser point that "revenue" isn't "profit" and I doubt any company is being very open with their operating expense and if/how they've increased under the new plan.

The only thing "doubled their revenue" does without more information is sound good on the gaming blogs.
  8. Cloak of leaves works because my natural character is Adam and I made my clothes from fig leaves. Also, I kick up a lot of leaves when I walk since it's now autumn and all.

He said he bought complete sets. I haven't looked at them to see how "appropriate" they are to his AT/powers but he wasn't frankenslotting them.

    Ebil...

Congratulations! I just hit the inf cap last night although a single Hetacomb was responsible for 600,000,000 of the journey. I think we both won City of Heroes!

You can also take advantage of some set bonuses as you Frankenslot. It's easy to arrange your Frankenslotted sets to get a couple minor bonuses to regen, or recovery or a status resist bonus. Nothing earth moving but they're things you'll never get with SOs or Generic IOs.
  14. Afraid not. Your best bet is screen shots. The nicest costume screen shots come from the costume screen itself (use Print Screen and paste into a graphics program). You can check out the Screenshot & Fan Creation forum for more help or details.

  16. I'd also recommend starting with Frankenslotting and using A-Merits to get a couple of the pricier IOs such as the LoTG +7.5%, the +Def Steadfast Protection, etc.*

My personal contribution is to say to be careful when buying cheap yellow IO's for Frankenslotting. There's a few "uncommon" (yellow) sets that still require rare salvage to craft. Not that they can't be a worthy addition to your build but if you just need a Dam/Acc then there may be a cheaper IO that only uses uncommon salvage than one needing a 2mil inf Prophecy or something. And that 5k Dam/Acc IO recipe will be less of a bargin when you see you need millions in salvage to build it. Look at your options between all the available sets in your catagory (melee, defense, PBAoE, etc).

*Or the marketer's solution to only buy LoTG's with your merits, sell 'em and use that money to buy things like the Steadfast...
  17. Liturgy is fairly Spandex-y. More so than my other male characters anyway.

Of course, drawing Lounge Crooner (see sig) should be a rite of passage for any artist

So don't bother talking about it if it's happening and don't bother talking about it if it's not happening. Got it.

Actually, the "point" is just to talk about the F2P model. I don't think anyone suspects that their voice is going to tip the scales or anything. Sometimes people just, you know, talk about stuff.

I know of at least one instance where an in-game item drop was largely removed when it became available for F2P users via a cash store. Which meant that it no longer dropped for pay users either.

And if they're not yet, then this would be the perfect time to speak against it, huh? Seeing as how we don't know what they're doing, remaining silent now because my "vote" might be wasted seems kind of silly.

No, that's pretty extreme. I can't think of a single other forum with a policy half as extreme as that which is good because you'd just edit the name out anyway.

    "Are you a god?"

My Earth/Storm controller, Pachamama is named after the Inca "earth mother" goddess (fertility, planting, that sort of thing) and her bio is that she was an Inca priestess but I don't play her as an actual deity.

Actual deities don't get faceplanted by Hellions at level six and try to scrape up enough influence to buy endurance enhancing trinkets.
