Well if anyone ever posts in the future that the devs hate powerleveling, I'm going to link this thread. Just incredible...
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? Because powergaming is similar to powerlevelling? Playing non-stop is an exploit somehow?
Dude, a powergamer can get more levels and more fun than a PL'er... I admit, I'm no powergamer, but that doesn't mean I'm going to accuse people of something -they haven't even done yet-.
[/ QUOTE ]
Four days to go from 40-45? Call it power gaming if you will, but I just think it's absurd to expect people to invest that much effort in such a short time into playing on a test server, which is actually supposed to help them debug their product. Four days to blast through 5 levels of the 40+ game, and the effort won't persist on the production server..
Call it what you will, but I call that absurd.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's only for those who havn't been playing on test to actually TEST the content of the game which is what the Dev's need to release a solid build.
As has been said, this is more to reward those who are thoroughly testing the level 40+ content in CoV and encourage others to do so as well.
Those who want the free year are going to have to work their buts off if they havn't. Hence why I let everyone know as soon as I found out this contest was going to happen, to get as many people that want to the chance to get that high.
Not every contest, not every event, is meant for everyone. This one happens to be for those who have been playing right along on test with high level villains and those who are willing to powergame or power level their way to 45.
After all, how better for the dev's to find the power levelling methods than to encourage it and collect the data in an event like this? -
Little time.. Yes.
Recluse's Victory going to prevent levelling? Yes.
Can it be helped? No.
Why can't it be? I can't tell you or Positron will put me in the Zig. *looks nervously over shoulder*
Why level 45 + villains only for such a killer reward? Simple.. the race is a challenge that requires 45+ villains to do it.. and the Cryptic folks want people trying it before it goes live... they say you can't do it.. I say you can.
For those who say its not worth loosing a couple days of their game time to get an ENTIRE YEAR of free game play if they succeed, so be it. Its your choice, I would think there are quite a few of you who would feel it is worth it.
Its not just a free year for you and your team if you win.. there's some serious bragging rights involved and an "In your face" to the devs.. who doesn't want that? -
Its not meant to be fair.. its a specific challenge.
-
ATTENTION ALL VILLAINS!!!! URGENT INFORMATION FROM THE w00t Radio SPY NETWORK!
w00t Radio's spies at Cryptic Studios have discovered a very disturbing thing! They're mocking you! Yes that's right, they don't think your good enough for what they have planned for you. We're so shocked by this that we're letting the cat out of the bag!
This Friday, May 26th we need EVERY level 45+ villain to meet us on the test server by 11:30 pm Central for a little race, a competition to find out who the best villains in the game are. The race however requires your villain to be at least level 45 and your going to need to work with others to complete it. This is the most complicated and diabolical race w00t Radio's ever been a part of and only the best of the best will able to even compete.
If you have a high level villain on the live servers now you need to get over to test right now and start getting to level 45.
IF YOU DO NOT you could very well loose out on a shot at a full free year of City of Heroes / City of Villains.
That's right.. I said a full year paid for by the devs, all because they think your not capable of completing this race!
Here's the snag.. the remainder of the race details won't be told to you until 11:30p.m Central.
What we do know now:
-You must be at least a level 45 villain.
To complicate things further... you don't have all week to do it get to 45 but the Recluse's Victory event will prevent you from leveling your regular characters from 10 a.m. on May 24 to 11a.m. or 12 noon on May 26th. This means you have LESS THAN 2 full days to get from 40 to 45 on your villain and get some friends there too b/c your going to need help.
-You must work with other villains to succeed.
I know you can do it, there's plenty of you l33t players out there who can level a character in a heartbeat!. Don't you want to play on the Dev's dime for a full year? Get Crackin! I'll have more info for you as soon as I can sneak it out of the NCSoft / Cryptic offices (they caught our last spy before he could get out alive!). -
Holy Old thread batman!!! My lvl 50 still has a rock or two..
-
Nothing scheduled yet...just 'later this year'.

Whew. I am jet lagged all to heck. Plus I caught the E3 flu that is going around AND had a Howies Monster Energy Drink Hangover (TM). Thanks to Obsidius and his leet camera I still look ok in the pics despite being low on end.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that came by the E3 booth to say hi or that came out to Howies to play Saturday. It was great to meet everyone. I know I took a few more pictures with you guys so I expect to see more out there soon!
I met so many fun people - from finally meeting sweet DJ Jester in person, to Nylonus who brought me a Starbucks card and a stuffed bear on behalf of Virtue, to Dave Williams from AEG who agreed to maybe make a CuppaJo card to Mantid who is a forum star in his own right, to the lovely ladies of MMORadio to discovering that when SagittaryGold and I stand next to each other we create a dynamic force field that makes cameras useless! Plus I got to hang out with the very funny Matt Miller and Serdar a ton. It was a great time - thanks to everyone!

You had a Monster Hangover??? Hehehehe nothing like liquid pixie stix to mess you up!
Cuppa was such a blast finally getting to hang out. -
I had my Pann-o-riffic filter on instead of the Positronic filter.

So, Positron, do you hate the players now?

From what I learned of him, he only hates the whiney ones.

Posi doesn't hate any of the players. He's just doin what he can to make CoH the best it can be. -

LOL yeah becarefull till that one gets fixed. -
Acutally during my on air chat with Cuppa and Alexa trench coats were brought up.. their response was something along the lines of: "Its very difficult to code and they want to do them right, just like Capes so when they get it working right we'll see them"
-
Is anyone else really tweaked at the fact that Statesman is saying that content for CoH is new base items when you can't access a base unless you own CoV?
-
[ QUOTE ]
As several have noted, I7 features content mostly for City of Villains (levels 41 to 50, in fact). This is exactly what we did for CoH. City of Heroes will receive a cool graphics upgrade, new base items (Empowerment stations!) and access to Recluses Victory. Its true that CoV received more attention, but thats mainly because we needed to fill out the levels. I had the option of releasing I7 or waiting until we could fill out the City of Heroes content. Obviously, I chose the former. New content should get out there when its ready. We'll be focusing equally as much as possible on each product moving into the future...
For those who have speculated that Newspaper missions are coming to City of Heroes, they arent yet. Thats coming a little later in the year. Id like to add something different to the CoH system
[/ QUOTE ]
So lets get this straight... your adding new features to bases... the same bases where an overwhelming majorityof players have no real access to due to your rediculous prestige income levels and your adding graphics lag to the game for low end systems?
This is your offering for heroes? Well at least I can take some solice that Mayhem missions arn't going to be all that cool to begin with considering your idea of 'destructable environment' will be having some items you can walk up to and punch and they blow up.. woopie.. whats the difference between that and any other mission where you have to blast the glowies?
On the positive side.. I have to admit I'm intrigued by Electric Melee. -

There WAS a typo. It was supposed to be POINT seven million, or 700k. I accidently missed the dot. Anyhow, we're up to 850k Slowed down a bit this week, as 1) Several of us live in the same town and skipped several hours of CoV Saturday to have a RL party and 2) out most rabid player, who is already 40, was unable to play for the last half of last week, including the weekend Still looking like we can add about a room a week with decent playing.
I'm upset about the stuff disapearing bug, as we've lost 20k in reclaimators already. Still haven't gotten any missing prestige from the bugs refunded. That's an extra room plus its equipment, easily.
As far as the base goes, we've got Power, Control, and Medical all up, saving up for workshop. Some decent playing time this week and we'll have that done so we can finally squish down our salvage and work on teleporters. Other than the generator costing so darn much, haven't been too overwhelmed by prices. That generator is as much as the teleporter room and the teleporter put together, bah.
More as things progress.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you b/c I was about to hunt you down and stalk you till I learned your secrets -
[ QUOTE ]
Personal or casual bases will fade away like the platform shoes with goldfish in them. Sounds like a great idea at first, then when it becomes reality, and people realize how ridiculous it is. They'll change their mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Beacuase they suffocate the hero? Scary stuff...
Seriously though folks.. GREAT posts.. I do have to question the 7Million and not having placed a power plant yet.. i'm thinking that's a typo? I'd love to get some confirmation on that. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah. Do you know how many casual players have their alts spread out across several SG's? Maybe you're out of touch with the game.
I play only a few nights a week. I'm the leader of an SG, but the other leaders and captains do a good job running it.
Like I said in another post, posting a lot has nothing to do with how hardcore of a gamer you are. For many people, it's an escape from the mundaneness of work.
[/ QUOTE ]
A LOT. why? B/c they've joined larger SG's to get a good source of teaming. Those larger SG's then require them to have one character in one sg and their alts in subsequent associated SG's.
I know this for a fact b/c 75% of my SG falls into the Casual Gamer category. As do most of the people I know in game.
Small SG's don't last long.. b/c the members loose interest or can't get teams. The ones that last are the hardcore or the teams of primarily real life friends.
Over the past year and a half my SG has absorbed SEVERAL casual gamer SG remnants.. and its a good environment for those casual gamers to be in.. b/c when they do log in there's almost always 10 or 15 people for them to possibly team with or more.
As far as you being a leader of an SG.. you can't be a very good one if your moonlighting in Other SG's and not putting your efforts into improving your SG.
Says a lot about an SG when its leader can't even be loyal to the SG. -
[ QUOTE ]
It is kinda hard to argue with someone who's position basically consists of "I don't wanna work for my base! I want it to be easier. It takes too long."
[/ QUOTE ]
Where exactly did you ever hear that i don't want to work for my base? I have been one of the people working HARDEST to get a base up and running.
Since YOU Can't see the problems present with the current prestige levels there's obviously no point in trying to explain to you anything about it.
Hundreds of others have posted seeing the problem and many are looking for a solution. Not a single one of them has said that bases should be instant.. but they also don't want to take six months just to start participating in iop base raids. -
[ QUOTE ]
Not everyone is reporting the same thing. In fact more than a few are reporting numbers that are 2 to 4 times than this average that your quoting. But you're only looking at the data that supports your cause.
[/ QUOTE ]
The small handfull of people who'v reported earning anything more than the 2.5k have also proven that they're doing it through very specific means that are NOT indicitative of average gameplay. Which is WHY you can't factor them into the equation b/c we're trying to help everyone to be able to enjoy bases and base raiding, average gamer and power gamer.
Or can you not understand that some numbers reported are special circumstances and that not everyone likes to do the exact same thing over and over and over again, that they actually like to play the game, do the missions, go through the story arcs, and level their character?
As soon as someone presents solid evidence that all these people earning the 2.5k average are doing something wrong in their regular missions, their street hunting, or their task forces that their numbers are way off THEN we can talk about why so many people arn't earning more prestige when they easily could be.
Going to PvP zones, farming repeatable missions, or finding one specific mob that gives disproportionate prestige due ot a bug or oversight does NOT constitute a solution, in fact if used by the majority those methods will simply get nerfed. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well according to Statesman, only 4% of the gaming population posts on the forums. So then isn't your data pretty skewed in your favor? The fact remains that there are many small SG's out there getting prestige and not coming to the forums whining about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That doesn't change the numbers their earning.
When everyone reporting, reports the same thing, there are going to be very few folks who are going to get different results from doing average missions.
The reason so few people participte in the boards is because they don't ahve the time or simply don't care. They play the game until the get fed up with the changes, lack of ability to do something or simply bored. They then leave. Where as those of us that do have the time and care about the game make the effort to make it better. Not just sit around and start arguements with people or ignore that there's a problem entirely. -

Well, we'll just have to see about that. The last time I checked you weren't personal friends with the Devs and therefore cannot assume what they will and won't nerf.
Time will tell. Those missions were put in there AND given a prestige boost for a reason. There a reward for a risk. If people want to sit in there and repeat continuously then they take the risk of engaging in PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have no clue who I'm friends with and who I'm not. That makes no difference. The dev's standard operating procedure has been proven time and again since I've been participating in this game (which was March of 2004).
[/ QUOTE ]
No I may not, but I can get a good idea from the fact that you're sitting here complaining about a problem that you have not experienced.
[/ QUOTE ]
So now your claiming to know what I have and have not experienced in game?
Every SG at one point in time was small. A logical look at anything can easily give you a reasonable example how how things operate on a smaller scale and just READING people's posts on here can tell you volumes about the experiences of smaller sgs. Especially when they provide numbers backing up thier experiences so that people can do the math and figure things out.
You just seem to ignore all that as if no one knows what they're talking about and appearently your psychic too. -

Well the Kora Fruit is quite useful, especially in PvP, Arena Matches, Base Raids etc. They give an advantage over the ones that you can buy in the store, and any advantage in those situations is worth it. I used to farm Kora Fruit after I reached level 46 and then give those insp to the lower levels in my SG to help them out in their missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes but your taking time and effort to get them and they're simply inspriations. They're not game breaking in any way shape or form, thats WHY the kora fruit mission was put in.
The PvP missions were put in for additional content in the PvP zones, not for people to farm for prestige and as soon as the devs see people doing just that.. they'll nerf the prestige awarded.
