  1. Some people have suggested Scythe sets in the main thread -- I'd rather see Scythes as a separate powerset.

The 'hand claws' idea is pretty common; to work around the animation issue, a lot of people have suggested big over-hand claws, like animal paws or giant hands or whatnot. I understand it's inelegant, but I wouldn't mind seeing something like that... if only to toss a nod to the overabundance of requests.

Edit: Oh yeah. 2nding requests on hockey sticks and chinese jian (tai chi style) swords.

...what's got him so spooked that he would actually interact with heroes and villains directly.

    Maybe it's himself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope not. So many time travel stories have used that gimmick. It'd make me a sad devil.

It can be interesting if handled well and planned from the start. It would've been kind of cool to see Hal Jordan fighting Parallax during earlier Green Lantern arcs.

Or maybe they're clones, a la Cable and Stryfe.

Edit: hey, baseless speculation. A red has more or less outright confirmed the anagram. Maybe that means he's NOT L-Nem.

Also, Hero [censored] 1! I knew we'd see him when time travel came into it!

    More baseless speculation!

than Lex Luthor. And that's terrible.

    I roffled.

Well, actually, I stayed in the chair, so it was more of a 'stay in chair cackling,' or "sicc," but saying "I sicced" doesn't sound quite so nice.
  4. Random thought:

It'd be neat if backstories could be played through. There's two cool ways this could be worked in -- either by letting players play through a semi-custom Origin/Backstory introductory arc (alternate newbie zone) or by having players 'relive' or 'flashback' to their Backstory in order to unlock the title/accolade/whatever power.

Not bad thinking . . . but let's take that further, then, and give bases a purpose besides for just storage and insta-TP-travel.

Like, maybe the original intent they were to have 2 years ago . . . ?

Rome was not built in a day - but scripts to grant prestige, clear debt and flip authentication are not far behind that. Sure, while perhaps we could have pulled some dev time for something else as a "thank you" we do have Issue 11 beta in full swing and the team has the grindstone turning hard to polish that up and get it ready for launch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Me thinks you misunderstood my post.

I wasn't refering to a "Thank You" gift in the form of actually getting bases functional to a purpose other than Storage or Insta-TP. I was refering to: once this transition is complete and your new Devs are hired to fill-out the ranks, let's also start working on some of those promised features.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's actually the concern he was addressing, I think; regarding "Rome wasn't built in a day." The other things he mentions as generalized traits -- scripts, not the actual events. In other words, keep your teeth in, stuff's in progress.
  7. Yeah, I bought CoV about a week ago online... and got a month of subscription plus char slots etc for all of $5 more than I would've paid anyway. I can see some of the $50 retail box folks getting a bit miffed at this, but you have to look at it from another angle, as well. There are a few minor integration problems with CoH-only accounts vs full accounts that I've noticed when I realized some of the CoH only costume options disappeared, subsumed into the collected list. This lets them treat all accounts the same way.

That ramble aside, I'm going to be sad to see States go. Jack will always be that character for me, at least a little.

So! Cautious optimism it is. My biggest concern is that without a capital V Vision centered lead, the game's going to be more concerned with profit. This means two things:

    1) Keeping existing subscribers

A dangerous proposition, since it means knowing when to bow to pressure. It can lead to catering to the lowest common denominator... or worse, the noisiest denominator.

    2) Bringing back old ones

Hard, since they've already judged the game and left. Many of them to other properties; I was very disappointed when I came back and saw the Auction House in Stormw... I mean, Atlas Park. I left that little ditty in a hurry, and hung around Ryzom for a while. Similarly, I was all set for Tabula Rasa back when it was Space Raver Kung-Fu Unicorns with and not Heinlein-on-half-Planetside's-budget. I figure CoX's current incarnation has about two degrees of Wow-Them before I jet again, and forget about bringing back of my ol' pals who are off in other realms. Yeah, sure, rue the loss of all of three or four subscribers... but I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way.

and 3) Bringing in new ones

This could go two very different directions. One is to tap demos that aren't getting along with current games well. You could do this by messing with the alt-culture; makeup costume options and ripped fishnets for men, over-the-top wuxia SFX on some powers, urbanizing/survival-horror/B-movie-izing powerset (shovels and wrenches might be the best thing to happen to this game in a long time) and revitalizing the pose/emote system will get you a lot of the current graphic novel demographic who isn't already here. Flavor is the game's strongest selling point. I came back, honestly, to play with the costume creator again. It needs mechanics or it's just so much fluff, but... yeah.

Or, they can give in to the dark side and try and siphon some of the 7 mil players who are largely already happy where they are (or if not, have several other well-targeted options available to them). This reeks of fail, but it's all too easy to see it happening with a corporate oversight board...
  8. Just waiting to see this as the 60 month vet reward...
