  1. Yeah, but the new puzzle was still there if you went and looked for it, on a small screen and the icon changed when you passed over the new games. You're not left to your own devices on virtual worldmaps that stretch for miles. (Large portions of which will kill you if you roam aimlessly. )

I can't do newspaper missions in Port Oakes until I hit 5th. No problem, because it tells me that, even if I try to skip out on Mongoose. (However, you can do newspaper missions at 29 in St. Martial, but Ian won't talk to you and it wipes the Broker bar clean, but that's another story.) But when I unlock Henri Dumont as a contact(which I probably did long before I outleveled him), unless I either read outside the game or happen to pass by him and click on him at the right instant, it remains unavailable and unknown.

For the record, there's one in Breakout, too, but it's an exploration badge instead of a hunt badge.

[/ QUOTE ]And I didn't leave Breakout with my first villian toon until I had found it, wandered over every inch of the map, went back to each contact, and killed probably hundreds of fellow Escapees just on the off chance that there was more than one badge lurking beyond my ken.

And then said, "I'm missing out on the rest of this game, let it go." But I was still relieved later to come here and find I missed nothing.

This is my first computer game experience unless you count 7th Guest, which I vicariously played to help my then-girlfriend through some of the puzzles. This concept of special "extra" content for those who rabidly research any game is foreign to me. But, yes, I'm an anachronistic kind of guy who's out of whack with most of the forum posters to begin with anyhow. I think the "easter eggs" on a DVD are cute. I think these "easter eggs" of hidden content (considering I find them long after I apparently am supposed to) stink.

Okay, it doesn't REALLY stink, actually it's only a bit annoying, and I still enjoy the game regardless. I just had to carry the metaphor to its logical conclusion.

You and I must have completely different gaming backgrounds.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, I'd have to be in the "different" category. You know, back in the dark ages when you bought a game and you got the whole game at once. But somewhere along the line, somebody said, "Yeah, we can sell so many copies of 'Monopoly' but imagine how many more we could make if we sell the Deeds in booster packs and make Boardwalk AND Mediterranean ultra-rare foil cards?!?"

I made a half dozen toons, having read the manual and dilligently reading every part of the tutorial, before learning that lurking inside Outbreak was one of those cool "badges" I had read about but had no clue how to find.

I've cut back on reading these boards because it only causes me to head home, log in my high-level mains and go, "Yep, missed that TOO!"

It is true that there were heroes pre issue 2 that can not get the badge right now, that did not stop you from starting a hero right then and there and earning the badges.

[/ QUOTE ]*sigh* Every time a new event badge shows up, it triggers a new wave of alt-oholism. I dust off all the concepts I've dreamed up in the last few months, create them, while dutifully logging in every already existing alt. Sleep is for the weak!
I'm of the "it'd be nice to let a few of my toons go and get Isolator, but there're plenty other badges I've yet to get" camp. The devs already understand that pre-I2 heroes can't get Isolator. But a strong enough argument (based on more than an absent opportunity) is what it will probably take to tip the scales in favor of the idea.
How will we know when such an argument is advanced? When the devs roll out the retro-Isolator. Yeah, that's not much help, but that's the best advice I can offer.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
And here is another point. If you had ANY information about getting the badge in outbreak, then i might be able to see this stance on the badge. But there is NONE!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Here is the only non-forum reference I can find in "official" CoH material .
More info in either the hard-copy guide or the tutorial would be nice. (Officer Hicks: "You're making a difference, HERONAME! Maybe getting rid of a lot more of the Contaminated will stop the contagion.")

I swear I never recall seeing or reading this from any post by a redname.

[/ QUOTE ]Common sense. I don't see Celebrant coming back with a "1" on it. Maybe something else this May, but I'll bet a trayful of SO's that Celebrant is gone for good.

Trick or treating may reappear. We've all but been promised the Gamester will return to plague both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. (Going WAY out on a limb here, probably as a special event with another badge or three for the collecting.) And Cold Warrior, as pointed out, has been available to the diligent for two years running.

I like looking at badges to see what characters have done what and been where. Changing the availabiliy of the special event badges lessens that awe because I won't know that the characters got the badge the way it originally appeared.

    [ QUOTE ]
So yes, we do deserve the right to earn it as everyone else did and does.

[/ QUOTE ]And you can. Start a new toon like everyone else does and hang around Outbreak. You deserve nothing. But you are welcome to continue to resonably and eloquently state your case. But IMHO, it will take more than a sense of entitlement and outrage to convince the devs to roll out Isolator Mark II.
  7. My favorite is the merc's shouting "Saftey's off!" as they charge into battle.

Thank goodness I can shut off pet dialog.

Personally, I dutifully /bug the suckers, but I don't see how a thread like this will move the process along any faster.

Down with the isolator badge! Nurf it in I7!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, devs, please retrofit it in I7 so Isolator unlocks trenchcoats and a Hamidon gladiator badge.
  9. It is still elitism, and no matter the bending over backwards to avoid the question, suggesting that the devs go back and slip something to the Pre I2 toons implies that something is owed them!

    [ QUOTE ]
Oh, and if you're SMART about it

    [/ QUOTE ]
...you get in an Isolator group and have the kills just rolling in at 8X your quick but still slow level-2 solo rate. And you can tell others about the badge at the same time, introducing them to more of the incredible rich content in the game.
  10. Wow! I bow down before you uberl33tne55. Next time I think about joining a MMO, I'll be sure to PM you to find out all I can learn from you and avoid that game like the plague.

Oh, and while we're dissecting assumptions, I didn't plunk down dime one to start playing CoH. So the fact that I knew about Isolator before my free trial expired blows THAT argument out of the water.

I still like the OP's idea better, but that seems to have been tossed out with baby AND bathwater pages ago.

The third one is because ... as with a newbie in the Tutorial, if you leave without getting the badge, I want you to have missed the damned bus, once and for all and IRREVERSIBLY. The same as said newbie hero popping out to GC or AP.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Wow, the "I was here from the beginning" elitism is just overwhelming. Perhaps some newbies that came along later didn't know of the existence of Isolator. Whereas, by playing before the badge existed, you were aware of its existence the second it went live.

It's called a learning curve. The time I spent finding out about the boards and the badge guides, I consider equivalent to those around from the beginning who had played for however long and had learned the ropes, and consequently had their ear to the ground and knew the instant that Isolator went live. Some of my favorite toons don't have Isolator. Ditto for a lot of people on this thread. And yet, somehow, life goes on.

I'm alright with badges like Celebrant or the Halloween badges that were around and I wasn't. Going forward, I have the same chance as anyone else for Toy Collector or Snaptooth or Handsome. (The Snow Beast Gladiator was a bit of a sucker punch, but that's the topic for another day.) If I fail to take advantage of the opportunity, I have only myself to blame. What I dislike is the assuption of "I was here from the beginning, therefore CoH OWES me the Isolator badge!" Poppycock!
  12. Saw the Skyway reference on the arson, too. Have never seen a building fire there.

The Hellions are also gleefully torching buildings in Mercy. PCPD probably doesn't care about that, but I do wish my Ice/Ice corruptor could get a badge (or three) off it... *sigh*
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Dang it! I want some invisible badges too. Oh wait, maybe I have some and I don't know it...hmmm.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to ask, just what DOES an invisible badge look like?
