I am part of the group that doesn't want to commit to a SG and prefers to have a few globle friends, and join pugs most the time. THIS is how I've played for over 4 years and AE has ruined that for me. All you folks saying it hasn't ruined anything and people like me need to just join a SG or change the way we play....just don't get it. If the shoe was on the other foot and I was saying you just need to quit your SGs and play all pug teams, I'm sure you folks would quickly understand what I'm trying to say. Just because it hasn't changed your game experience, please don't be so niave as to believe it hasn't drasticly effected others.

No, what people are telling you is that other players (aka paying customers) are not there to be your teammates or for your enjoyment. They are paying the montly subscription for their own enjoyment first and foremost. Your enjoyment of the game doesn't trump the enjoyment of everyone else's. If other players don't enjoy teaming with you on non-AE content, then that's their choice. That's what they're paying for.
[/ QUOTE ]
So the fact that all the content, zones, TF/SF, temp powers, contacts, story arcs, and lore built up over the last 5 years being totally ignored because folks go from 1-50 in the Atlas AE and don't even know how to play thier charcters is ok, and in fact the correct way for this game to be played? ok. sorry I guess I was wrong.

Those who suggest you join an SG or get more global friends are doing so only after people like you have whined about nerfing AE so much. It is only reactionary because people like you would rather everyone else change their playstyle before you change yours. Since you seem to be in the minority, perhaps you should reconsider.
[/ QUOTE ]
I haven't whined or asked for AE nerfs at all so watch the hyperbole dude. My only recomendation to fix the issues I have with AE farming was to add more lvl 50 content to Peregrine and Grandville to get folks back in those zones and out of Atlas/Cap Diable. Hardly a nerf or whining. -
Yeah, I gotta agree there Bad_Influence. The goggles are pretty cool, especially the retro goggles, but that's just not enough to make me spend $10. The height adjuster would come in handy now and then, but I think it should have definetly been free to everyone and not included in a booster pack. People have been asking for a height adjuster longer than power customization. Kinda messed up IMO to put it in a booster. About as messed up as if they put Dual Pistols in the GR expansion and force folks to buy GR to finally get Dual Pistols.
If the booster packs and expansions are full of quality stuff, they wouldn't have to put things like height adjuster in there to get people to buy it. It's not to late. I really think they should through a temp power and a few more cotume peices in the science booster, and just make the height adjuster included in issue 15 or 16. -
Also, the best way to fix the AE farming issue is to drop a crapload of new lvl 50 content on us in Peregrine and Grandville. Put a new TF/SF in, a new contact with new missions, and have it all based on a new enemy faction and use brand new mission maps. It would get lvl 50s back into those zones where they belong and I bet most of the high lvl farming would migrate back there also. The only other thing needed is a farm channel...or AE channel, even though I'm sure alot of folks would still be [censored] and use broadcast, it would help some.
You can't stop the farming, you can only hope to control it. If they'd just get out of Atlas and Cap Diable, and go back to Peregrine and Granville....I think this whole thing would blow over rather quickly. -

You're right in that I was looking for PUG's - but thats because I stayed on the game longer than my friends because they have all quit the game over this same issue.
You are also correct in that its just a game - but now its a seriously broken game. I won't be paying to play a broken game system. There are other superhero MMO's on the horizon to explore...

Make new friends?
Join an SG.
I mean, no offense, but even without AE, I rarely if ever bother with pugs anymore. theyre just not worth the risk of idiot players (who existed way before AE did)
Though from the rest of this topic, looks like you're one of those braindead buffoons who thinks he can force other people to play his way rather than the way they enjoy by whining enough.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, really? You just told this guy to get new friends, join a supergroup, and to stop playing on pugs....only to accuse him of being a brain dead buffoon that tells other people how to play, like two sentences later. Pot....meet kettle.

If I see someone doing something that I consider blatantly offensive and annoying, I add them to my ignore list, give them a one star rating, and make a note that they are an idiot. When I join/form teams, I always check everyone on the team for prior ratings or notes to see if there are an known idiots present. End of problem.
I find most of the time in life it's better to handle situations yourself, rather than running off and tattling to an authority figure. -

Why? Because I have friends and I belong to a supergroup.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a list of global friends that I largely don't recall and who mostly don't play any more. Continually trying to add more people to that list who I will not remember a week from now if they're even still around, and who probably won't be playing a character that is convenient for me to team up with seems like a futile endeavor.
Supergroups either seem to be rather inactive or else expect a commitment to the game that I just don't have. As an example, the last supergroup I joined with two characters, I set those two aside for a bit to play other characters and when I came back to those two characters they had been booted from the group for inactivity.
I cannot maintain a vast social network. Nor can I commit myself to supergroup activities. Thus, I thrived on PUGs. Until AE came along. Now those seem all too rare.

Just wanted to say ditto, and add that most of my charcters aren't the SG type anyways. I tend to be a soloist that enjoys pug teams, adding globle friends now and then when I have an exceptionally good time on a pug team. I have my own SG and VG and the only members are my own characters.....so that makes it hard to find teams by joining a SG/VG. I am however trying to find some good coalitions. -
The only reason this is exciting news, is because it means we can move on to issue 16 and Going Rogue now. Yay!
-
Good advice Lexx. I think I might need to do that that myself.
-
You can't stop people from from farming, you just can't. If they deleted the entire AE system today, folks would just go back to Grandville and Peregrine. It's not the farming that is the issue. The problem is the AE has made it so easy to farm and PL that anyone can do it. You don't even have to make your way to a lvl 50 zone or pay anyone to PL you. There is really nothing that can be done that players won't find a way around. It's just sad that the majority of players are content farming day afetr day and don't actually care about playing the game and experiencing the CoX world.
-
It's funny cause when I do manage to form a little team now, all the other people on my team are all saying the same thing. They can never find teams anymore and they hate AE.

*Put up LFT tag* - no response
*Broadcast in two separate zones LFT* - no response
Team invite one (blind) - level 54 boss farm. *quit*
Team two - stands around for 30minutes and doesn't actually do a mission. *quit*
I broadcast for people to join my team - stating story rather than farm. No response.
Team invite three - leader quits on the first mission
Team four - I'm now the leader of team three. Try to recruit a few more. One guy quits because I'm not running a farm.
I give up and go and play something else.

This is my experience just about everytime I log in. I'm waiting for the newness of the AE to wear off and things to go back to normal, or Going Rogue, or for CO to come out. As is I can't stand this game anymore. Makes me sad really. -
Top 10 names for the Brute AT that would have been a better choice.....
10. Ruffians
9. The Enraged
8. Conquerors
7. Slaughter House
6. Enforcers
5. Slayers
4. Guerrillas
3. Executioners
2. Furors
and the number one name for the Brute AT that would have been a better choice.....
1. Butchers -
So remember the "survey" from last August that asked hoe folks felt about power customization, changing sides, and creating your own missions? It also mentioned a Rogue Spy AT.....anyone think we'll actually get a new AT in Going Rogue?
-
Can the Natural Booster pack include a Rogue Spy epic AT with Dual pistols? I'll pay $9.99 for that. Thanks.

Love to see claw on brutes, but sadly I think the Devs dug in and decide that us Smasher would never see em. I think they did the same thing with with scrappers and SS. Kind of a shame. Would love to play a Claw Brute. : (
[/ QUOTE ]
PLEASE READ
The Scrapper is a fierce melee combatant. In hand to hand, no other hero can compare. But the Scrapper is not as resilient as the Tanker, and might find himself in a little trouble if he heedlessly wades into combat. The Scrapper's aptitude for melee is countered by a total lack of distance attacks. Scrappers possess Critical Strike capability. Their melee attacks have a chance to sometimes do double damage.
Brutes live to fight, and as a Brute, you will revel in hand-to-hand combat. With strong offensive power sets designed to inflict pain and impressive defenses to take it, you're the best there is in a straight melee fight. Protracted battles only make you mad, and the madder you get, the more damaging your attacks become. You do lack ranged attacks, which could leave you vulnerable to hit-and-run tactics without allies to cover you.
Ok, so Brute is an unfortunate choice for naming the AT, as it does tend to conjur certain beastly images. However, as you can see in the descriptions above, taken directly from the little informational book that came with the games....there isn't a big difference between Brute and Scrapper. There is absolutely NO mention of Brutes being stupid beastly creatures that can only SMASH stuff.
Everytime I see someone post something along the lines of a set not being right for brutes because it is gracefull or doesn't have enough SMASh....I just wanna vomit. Brutes should without a doubt get MA, Kat, BS, and Claws. Besides, they already have Fire melee, Dark Melee, and Dual Blades....none of which are SMASH! -
I second that.....errr, third that. Whatever, EG is right on the money.
-
Can't wait to see if the UK guys are as neurotic and anal as our home grown forumites.
-
So can you stack Caltrops ontop of your own caltrops?
-
I think the bullets in my dual pistols will stay the same color.
-
I love it! Didn't even think about that tactic. I don't use the TP pool very much, but I might need to role a dual build just for the sole purpose of doing that! What is the limit on trip mines you can lay at one time? How long do they last if noone trips them before they disappear?
-
Appreciate the pointer. I had actually planned on slotting four Dark Watcher's despair in smoke grenade, but wasn't sure if I wanted to put the Chance for Recharge Slow in there or not.....definetly won't be now.
As far as the accuracy debuff goes, I like to fight +2s and +3s most the time, so I'm not so sure it is worth the trouble. I might just take it early and respec out of it later on for my final build. -
Sound like good stuff. I don't know why devices gets a bum wrap. Sounds like alot of fun and more strategy than most sets. Should be fun...now I just need Dual Pistols to hurry up and get here.
Another question I had...I've been messing around on Mids trying to come up with a IO'd out build that would have lots of defense and HP. I have about 32% defense to everything in this build. My question is with that much defense, how big a difference is the -tohit from smoke bomb going to make? I ask because I plan on using Cloaking device and having a stealth IO slotted, so I might not need Smoke bomb in a very tight build. -
Thanks Barata. So even with Caltrops and Web Grenade it's hard to get enemies at the right place at the right time for Time Bomb to be affective? That is disappointing to hear. If you sneak up to an unaggroed mob though that are just standing around in a small area, couldn't you lay the time bomb and walk away?
My thinking was to place a few trip mines away from a mob, go place a time bomb on the unaggroed mob and then run back to your trip mines to hide and wait for the survivors to come after you. -
Sorry got off topic......so claws for brutes...is guud. With the announcment that Going Rogue is NOT issue 16, and that 16 is going to be atleast in part about power customization....you think we'll get massive proliferation also?
