so many of my threads seem to end up like this

If by "threads" you mean "clothes" and by "this" you mean "on the floor," then yeah.

    Hey Proj, what's your powersets?
Phoebus there is a Fire/Fire/Fire Blaster. (I know, I know... I'm a traditionalist when it comes to creating characters.)

You shouldn't oughta float targets like that one by me... it's taking all my self-restraint not to go for the obvious.

I'm not sure how you'd do this in the character builder. Maybe the new issue 12 costume options will make it easier, though.

    15 People

According to these figures, if 15 people can put out 3 Issues a year, then 27 people can put out 12 Issues. Sah-weet.
  6. That is extremely cool. And by "extremely" I mean "way."
  7. If I were doing this, the primary thing I'd use is the asymmetric costume pieces. I'd cram as many in there as possible, including the antenna one, the targeting reticle for eye, the robot arm, the various barb wire/chain accessories, etc.

I would also make her a weapon user of some sort, and alternate the weapons in each hand. If she's a Claws Scrapper, for instance, I've make one hand the multi-claw and the other the single blade.

Lower-echelon Freakshow seem to be more colorful than those higher in rank, too. But there are a lot of mohawks on display. Very Road Warrior.

I too have been wanting to make a silver-agey looking character lately. The questions I have for the costume gurus here are:

    1) Which top looks better with the flared skirt option (the first choice under skirts) - regular tights or sleek tights? I have been told sleek tights are shinier, but I have a kind of crappy graphics card, so they look virtually identical to me (as do matte and shiney leather boots).

    2) Is there any simple silver-ageish pattern (like "Fat Stripe") that can be applied to tops and continued smoothly to skirts? So far I haven't found one; the pattern doesn't line up on the skirt. This one isn't a huge deal because I can use a belt to cover the transition, but I thought I'd run it by you all anyway.

    Thanks!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't tried a female Silver Age heroine with a skirt, yet. I'll have to go look.

Edit: Okay, looking at the character creator now....

So far, none of the patterns have lined up. They're all slightly off. It's only the patterns that are significantly different that disguise the not-quite-connection bit. Stripe 1 on the skirt with Pinstripe on top, for instance. But that's not a very Silver Age look.

Heh... found a combo that nearly matches: Radioactive Top with Starshot Bottom. Not the reverse, though, and not Radioactive/Radioactive or Starshot/Starshot. Oh Jayyy, you got some 'splainin' to dooo.

One combo that does look good to me is Top - Pattern 2, Bottom - Sharp. So does T - Peak, B - Sharp. Hmm, also T - Horns, B - Sharp (reverse the colors). In fact, by reversing the colors on the skirt, B - Fade Line actually looks pretty good with almost all the chest patterns that become solid at the waist. Except Fade Line, ironically.

As far as texture/shine, to my eye the Flared Skirt looks best with regular tights. Flared Leather doesn't really match anything in the tops, although Armored Pads comes closest. (But they look silly together.)

Definitely think a belt is required for contiguous patterns.

I love that Mighty Lad costume. Nice work!

    Thanks!

This is one of the few costumes I've made that really hit on all cylinders and worked from the get-go. The hardest part was coming up with an appropriate name to go with the look.

That's a very nice look Ironik. Mighty Lad really shines. It's funny how many tricks there are in the uncommon chest details.

High praise coming from the master of costumes! Thanks!

The 'upskirt thing' as it appears in JK's depiction of Soul Train, while provocative, is in my humble opinion by no means salacious. In fact when combined with the strength of character implicit in every line of her neck, cheekbones and jawline, the sort of provocation provided by that properly packaged peek-a-boo pudenda, becomes the sort touted by MC Hammer when he said 'Can't touch this!'

    Viva, Strong Sexy Black Women!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't care for the "camel toe" depiction. It crossed that line into "stupidly juvenile trying to be sexy" for me. Jomaro's, on the other hand, is exactly how it should be done. Sexy without being crude.

Nice "M" mod... I wonder how it looks to everyone else?

    [/ QUOTE ]
You mean for his chest logo? How is it a mod?
You can make the same thing using the standard costume creator options.
    under Upper Body:
For Chest, Pick Tights, then Tights Smooth, then Emblem Circle for the yellow circular background.
For Chest Detail, pick M and then make both colors the exact same color.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yep. Not a mod.

I spent quite some time making various chest combos looking for one that worked, then backed into the name when the M+Circle thing looked good. (Plus he's on Virtue, so most names are already taken.)

The trick with silver age costumes is communicating a confident simplicity without looking like a cartoon. Choose a single detail – the face, the chest, the legs - and design around it. Keep the rest of the costume unfussy: avoid additional details that cause the eye to jump around, like unnecessary belts, boots, gloves and shoulder pads.

Avoid anything that looks 'cool' right out of the gate. This includes most of the newer tech details and embossed armors. A costume that uses dorky, underutilized elements is more memorable.

Play around with patterns. Try to make them look unfamiliar by using weird combinations.

Pair a bright color with a subtler one. Don’t be afraid to use uncommon hues: oranges, yellows, browns, burgundy and duskier blues. Be very careful with purple – it’s the cartooniest color. Use black sparingly.
