  1. I think I'm something of a rarity with my particular brute here, everyone else seems to be going with a combination of Super Strength, Stone Whatever, and Dark. Mostly, keep in mind. No comments on choices here, I just noticed the trends in this thread and on Brutes in general. Here goes.

Meathook - Fire/Invulnerable. It's all for concept, I've never played a Tank in Heroes aside from an Invulnerable/Ice and he was a lot of fun. I thought I'd play from the opposing viewpoint and the other defenses just didn't seem to fit. However...holy moley. The absolute damage...! Mobs don't stand a chance. By the time I've registered any real damage there are heaps of charred bodies on the ground around me. With Stamina in there to regain the endurance I'm a big red machine. To anyone who hasn't tried it, go for it, it's a blast.
  2. Hi all. We are a themed SG on CoV that is mainly for fans of the RIFTS rpg in general and The Coalition States in particular.

    Name: Coalition War Campaign

Motto: "Making Humanity Safe, One D-bee At A Time."

Leader: (Emperor) Karl Prosek, Robotics/Dark Miasma Mastermind

Player Type: Again, we're a theme SG for fans of RIFTS but overall we're a pretty casual bunch and most of us happen to be friends and acquaintances in real life. We do enjoy levelling characters though.

Roleplay?: Not frequent but not discouraged. If the mood strikes you, go with it.

Membership Levels: As CoV was just released and we're a brand-new group, not very high, but we're open to any level that wants to join.

SG Colors: There also happens to be a costume requirement, but our colors are DARK dark blue and white.

Normal Time Of Gameplay: Usually mornings and late evenings during the week and random on the weekend.

Other Info: The costume requirement is a CS-styled uniform, such as Deadboys, SAMAS, etc. We're talking to Palladium Books to make the SG sanctioned, so hopefully there won't be any legal issues.

Recruiting: Most definitely. If you're a fan of either RIFTS or the Coalition States, by all means enlist! We have one requirement for the enlistment process: join the website first. Please send me a mail on these boards as well.

--I've been an archer IRL for about 20 years now, and I'm pleased, thematicly. I DO like the look of the bow, and am fine with the Storm Giant arrow it fires. I've always dreamt of the ability to choose different weapon visuals for each weapon based set. Its a minor, minor thing, but the bow would be a nice set for this, some wanted fancy modern compounds, others like the recuve and even others out there would love to have a longbow or even asian horsebow, or Japanese Yuri.

I have to agree with Adam on the theme aspect of things as well as the stylistic differences. I had tried the total archery set with both Archery/Trick Arrow as a Defender and wasn't quite satisfied with TA. I know the common complaint that Devs had gimped it on purpose and came out of their testing labs saying, "Yup, it's a little weak, whatcha gonna do"...I'm paraphrasing a lot of other threads, to be honest. However, I was looking at this from a comics superheroes standpoint: Not only was Hawkeye (Marvel Comics version and my favorite) a dead shot but he had all kinds of tricks that made him potent. Hence, my decision for Devices as a secondary. It came closest.

I also would have liked to have seen the different bow types and would have loved a compound or Yari, but I think the bows provided are quite nice. Could very well be the length of a true longbow if your toon's big enough anyway.
  4. I have a lvl 18 Arch/Dev blaster and have had little problems. I took some advice from Freedom Fury's AR/DEV guide and have slotted with the wisdom provided. This is my first blaster and I don't find it weak. I've slotted out Snap Shot and Aimed Shot from my primary pool and Fistful is a close second. 5 Damage and one Accuracy on both Snap and Aimed, I barely ever miss with decent enough damage. I agree that 'readying' the bow is a little overlong but once it's out you can plug 'em full of wood. On the Devices end, I went with Freedom Fury's recommendations, and have Web Grenade, Caltrops and Targeting Drone slotted for minimum slots and maximum effectiveness. On whites I hit almost every time without the drone and against oranges and higher I pull out the drone and let fly, again hitting almost every time. The travel powers and the fitness chain I find to be mutable as everyone has their own opinions on these things. Suffice it to say that I'm quite happy with my blaster. Archery might not do as much damage as some others but it beats out most in terms of accuracy IMHO. I'd rather hit 95% of the time with decent damage than with massive damage and whiff.
