Fire/Dark Corrupter
Broadsword/Willpower scrapper
Sonic/Ice blaster
Fire/dark controller
all of these are ridiculously powerful. -
You want to see how "Outliers" perform?
Try this:
1. Make a fire/dark corr
2. realize your blaster can never perform at this level.
3. run at -1x8 at level 10 solo
4. run at +1 x8 at level 22 solo
5. run at +2 x 8 with bosses at 38+ solo
6. learn how to tank AVs on your corr
That is the difference between a blaster Outlier and other ATs you can do what I suggest other than tanking AVs on SO builds. You might want a steadfast knockback if you are fighting council. I can tell you an Electric/Ninja Stalker is amazing once you get Lightning Rod and it will surpass your blaster. I used to run mine at +3x3 solo.
I understand this test is more for you - but many of us have already run these tests and have been playing since day one. Have fun learning and if you want to make a really unfair test match a BS/WP scrapper and an Energy/Energy blaster. There isn't much that can kill the scrapper once you get parry slotted with a chance to knockdown proc. -

I took a break from my all blasters all the time mission to roll up a Fire/Dark controller.
You know what - Mez didn't bother me and that was running at -1 x 8 starting at level 10. I was doing the Midnighters arc and died a grand total of 3 times from 10-13 mostly due to my own increasing bravado.
Since I was frying single groups with ease I started pulling 2 or more at once. Having a self heal, mass immobilize and debuffs like crazy meant even with 9 Lost Lts firing at me - they rarely mezzed me and even less often did any serious damage to me. I Hot footed and fire caged them to death in the hundreds.
In fact I would say the exact same issue as Arcana said earlier - if I ran out of end - I died. So occasionally my darkest night was too successful and I pulled too many. I can already see once I add some SO I am going to level at a faster speed than any blaster could ever do solo. This rivals a Fire/Dark corr for leveling speed.
So Zeh_Masteh I can say the guide to not being mezzed is create a character with debuffs, heals and -to hit powers. I never see any of these folks saying I don't get mezzed on my Fire/Fire blaster for some reason............ -
So after many pages of constructive conversation we are now finding 2 people with multiple BILLION influence, merits and other stuff builds saying I can do this - so all blasters are ok.
Seriously, before you post again take build 2 and fill it with SO's and try any of the stuff you do now and get back to us.
I also have a radically over-powered blaster at 50 who while he doesn't put out the same damage as a sonic/ice, can stand toe-to-toe with most anyting in the game and I actually survived against a fully ticked off Recluse in the STF and took the last 1/4th of the first tower down solo after the team was wiped. Finally Recluse landed one on me and I was dead.
But I survived a fully buffed Recluse for about 90 seconds.
This is NOT the experience that most blasters can achieve and definately not prior to having Incarnate powers and a fully IO'd build. I have been trying many different blasters over the last 2 months and you try rolling up a blaster and actually do missions not DFB and DiB to 22 and see how you do.
It is far harder than just about any other AT and the 20-25 range is really tough as you don't have an answer with few attacks at this level. I see such utter nonsense again and again telling people stay at range - if you do you only have a few powers to spam over and over again and you need to ignore most of your secondary. This is ok with you?
If I build a corr or dom or defender I take most of the secondary in some cases all of it. On top of that I take the most powerful of the Primary as well. If you think a blaster can compare to a fully kitted Fire/Dark corr or Fire/Kin corr then logic is not a strong suit for you.
I am currently trying a Beam/Energy blaster and while he so far is fun I only have a couple secondary powers and almost every primary. That is a problem. -
New Dawn you play careful and don't get mezzed much - this is my surprised face :0
I could run solo at 0x0 and never die all the way to 50 I don't doubt. I used to play the game hardcore where death is real. You die you re-roll. The blasters do get mezzed more often than any other character. Milady's Knight showed his mez stats and it was telling that in every single case the blasters were far more mezzed.
If you are not applying your damage enough to draw the ire and mezzes - you are playing a far different game than most blasters. Make a Beam blaster and watch what happens when Disintegration spreads. It is blaster dinner bell time. So do you not take Disintegrate? It really boosts your damage and cutting beam + spread Disintegrate is a wonderful thing - but it draws aggro.
That's just one set - Fire with its DoT holds aggro. Ice with its slows holds aggro. You see it isn't the players alone who say they under perform. We have had stats from the devs showing it in the past and the changes made were quite small. I would ask you if you are mezzed on a defender how often was your aggro high enough to lead to your death? How often was it high enough on a blaster?
See the difference? -
GG your incredible brown nosing to anything the Devs do gets old.
If we don't like something that is what the forums are FOR - feedback.
You just ape and copy and behave like Miss Obvious.
If I like something I post it and if I don't like it I post it. You know there was hundreds of posts on Beta saying that what they are giving us on Live is terrible and over time is slower than 1/100th of iTrial speed.
The changes are almost exactly what people asked for except the Emps on Beta were for daily not 2 per 7 days. This is still much better and won't suffer from the decay creep that solo did over time. I believe we figured out it would take you over a year to tier 4 all current Incarnate powers solo.
Your posts add nothing and your snark isn't appreciated. Remember when it was asked to be changed the Devs LOWERED IT and added the cooldown penalty that Trials don't have.
So you feel all warm and fuzzy about the changes and I feel they dug their heels in and grudgingly changed it when people saw how terrible it is. -
Quote:This is what I was hoping for. In my head without doing Arcana level math this should bring the solo speeds to about 1/10th or so and it won't decay as it did over time the old way.So, new patch on Beta today.
10 threads may be a bit too high, IMO, but everything else looks rad. Big fan of the guaranteed Empyrean merits.
This is what we asked for on Beta and I am very happy they did it and I said I would apologize and I do so now. This is more than I expected as I actually thought they would just bump Threads from 3-5 and an Emp + 10 threads makes this a truly viable solo method.
Now you will have a roughly (in my head math) a rate of hours to days. So if in Trials it would take you 20 hours to achieve it would take you 20 days and that is a fair rate for solo progression in my opinion.
I could see them dropping the thread rate to 5 instead of 10 and that would have far less impact than the Emp. -
Multiple people on multiple levels said this was too slow going out - the Devs tested it - and LOWERED the rate and PENALIZED players by forcing a cooldown on the already slower way to incarnate powers.
The current rate is very close to hours in iTrials compared to Weeks solo.
It is not readily apparent but once you crash through the initial bonus the solo arcs slow down from 1/20th to about 1/50th the speed of iTrials. What is yet for many to discover is over time say 6 months it gets WORSE THE LONGER YOU SOLO. So over a year it may drop to 1/100th.
Players in the beta said repeatedly add an Emp to the completion of the full arcs per 20 hours and drop the cooldown to the rest.
I highly doubt we will see anything like this live. Likely they will change the end 2 threads to 3. If I am wrong I would love to say so and apologize. The paying customers are the only ones doing the incarnate stuff Devs - hello? -
Quote:Fritzy we determined that it will take you somewhere in the realm of weeks to hours solo to iTrial.I also agree progress should be slower but I am not ready to say this version is too slow. It's only been one week and I am pleased with the progress on my main character who is running the Heather arc 3x per day. I'm reserving judgement until I've accumulated a month's worth of components. merits and threads.
After 30 days that character will have at least:
30 components of various levels
30 assorted iMerits
300+ Threads.
At that time in mid April I will assess the inventory and see what can be crafted for the most favorable results.
(As someone who has on hand more than 250 unspent Alignment merits (40+ on 1 char; 30+ on 5 more chars; and more scattered on other chars) I think I have the patience to play this version of DA out over the long term to see just how good it can really be for the average solo player.)
So roughly what you could get in 8 hours of trials will take you more than 8 weeks solo. -
Quote:Or there might not be - or unicorns could be the next vanity pet - or possibly you might be given the Title Miss Obvious. There could be some tweaks once they datamine the effects of DA on the live servers.
You must be a politician in that your ability to state the obvious with absolute certainty is unmatched. -

I am having some second thoughts on blasters and Mez.
I have my Energy/Ice blaster to 25 now thanks to a Synapse TF and I had one defeat and that was intentional. I pulled what I call a veteran nuke in one of the large open warehouses - popped 2 purples herded a huge group and self-destructed and Returned to battle.
What has me rethinking a solution is that other than mezzes I fear nothing as a blaster. Yes, if I set the game too hard I can get defeated but I can also slaughter things very efficiently. In the Synapse I felt sorry for 2 titan weapons brutes as I was wiping out the groups before they could even swing and in some cases I slowed attacking so they could get some kills.
If I had mez protection - as long as I played a secondary with some mitigation - I would never die solo and it would be hard to kill me in a team. I don't want to make blasters CoH easy mode. I like the fact I can use skill and timing to win. I let the aggro magnets get hit and then I light up the bad guys. Counting to 3 or 4 then loosing the gates of hell is fun and I have found if you take the thought that you want to take the LAST 2/3rds of the enemies health to heart you rarely are in danger and you get almost all of the kills.
Solo is where I would like to see a slight change. I would like some form of escape mechanism using defiance. Similar to how defenders get Corr damage solo - I would see us be able to escape and fight. But I think in a team setting - we are not that disadvantaged when viewing the battle in 2 parts opening volley and finishing volley. Let the controller and melee start the fight - you finish it. -
Ok, my further journey on a ranged only blaster.
I am now at 22 nearly 23 and did both Positron 1&2 and while Positron 2 was very smooth and no defeats - Positron 1 was ugly.
I was defeated 4 times - 2 were straight up lag deaths where I got mapservered and came back dead - so really don't count. 2 were team wipes where because I was prepared with 5 purples I died last! In fact I thought for a minute I would win but then a hold stuck in both occurrences and I died.
I exited those TF's at 22 and now started back on the road solo with Tips. Council I was able to roll fairly easy I found in fact the Knockback I deliver on an Energy/Ice is very much what keeps me alive. I am still running at 0x3 + bosses and the hardest ones to fight are Aracnos by far. So many holds, stuns and immobilizes.
Ice patch and Chilling embrace really help and once I get Shiver I expect to notice a real difference. So far 8 deaths in 22 levels and all of them since level 13. Two were network related deaths that I could not have avoided.
Most deaths I got were from being immobilizes in Line Of Sight (LoS) and ganked when I could not get them on the Ice patch. -
Great thought Arcana but I would have the splash do just one thing slow movement.
Then they are slower to reach you while you are mezzed. This allows you to fight them at range even with your plinking attacks - I always slot my first attack 1 acc, 3 damage, 1 recharge and my secondary 1st as 1 acc, 1 recharge.
Give me a slow where the boss had to work harder to reach me with the sword I might have won that fight.
I would have while mezzed your tier one and 2 attacks slow movement as they hit in an AoE equal to say fireball. The logic is your foes are careful to approach the wounded blaster and aren't sure he isn't playing possum and not really hurt. It's like approaching that lion you shot is it really dead............ -
I actually had a thought as a god he can make his attribute any size he wants for each encounter - he is afterall frigging Zeus.

Quote:You imposing your own insecurities on us is what I see.Really. Men live in terror that someone will accuse them of liking it, because if that happens, they lose all of their heterosexual male privilege. If someone catches me looking at a crotch, they'll feel entitled to treat me the way they treat gay men, and all women, so I don't dare risk that.
After all, just by existing, this splash screen is already treating them the way the comic book genre treats women. (See also: Shortpacked.com, "False Equivalence".)
You know as well as I do that this is what's going on.
I wouldn't want to login to seeing a females crotch either on my game. I like heroic - this is Elvis in blue and red spandex. -
Quote:At level 13 how many breakfrees can you carry? If I'm fighting Lost I sure as hell will always have at least 1 breakfree on hand on any non melee AT. If you know you are going to be fighting an enemy group with mezzes on a toon without mez protection and you don't bring provisions to deal with it, then it's your own fault you died.
Also should I leave every mission and get more when I run out?
To stop a BOSS it takes at least 2 applications of an Immobilization to stick. He held me and also slept me. If you missed it I was running at 0x3 with Bosses. That means almost every spawn has a boss.
So yes, I was defeated but only once in 13 levels and that was due to a hold. Now if I ran at 0x0 with bosses where you only get an end boss - I would be undefeated. That is not my goal to play safe - I want to run the edge of disaster and see what causes my defeats. One defeat and it was due to a mez. -
I decided to provide some actual in game play and choices I made to show what if anything defeated me and why.
I am running an Energy/Ice blaster at 0x3 with Bosses.
I went level 1-10 on 2 DFB runs and chose Defense and Recovery as buffs, I was never defeated playing strictly at range.
I have taken the powers:
Power blast, burst, torrent, aim, chill blain, chilling embrace.
I finally had my first defeat at level 13 because I was held and slept by a +1 Lost boss and he closed to melee range and the sword killed me. I was still at nearly 50% health until he closed. Mez killed me.
Game is playing a bit laggy and finally crashes - new issue blues. I am off to work and will return to the second Midnighter arc mission later.
I will update as I go and remember I am playing strictly at range - out of melee reach unless forced to and only then until chilling embrace earns me some space or I am mezzed and killed. -
I believe it was being held captive by Ghost Widow.

I think that the Elvis pose by Statesman is a bit silly. I call it the SPT Statesman Pelvic Thrust.
Having to login to that is annoying and all I can think is that Statesman is doing the Time warp. -
To Arcana's point - I rarely die on my blasters. I know the limitations and weaknesses. However once in a while I tire of playing careful and just want to blow things up and I play like a crazed Fusionette on Jolt cola.
I surprisingly often survive those moments but not always and nothing says love like popping a breakfree run into a huge mass of enemies, nuke, pop a blue, self destruct and Return to Battle.
Your team stands looking at the wreckage wondering what just happened. -
Please get rid of the STATESMAN PELVIC THRUST.
Say no to SPT it gives new meaning to "splash screen."
