Where's the option to pick up 7 of my buddies and just get into a fight with the patron and take the powers?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Heh, an energy mace I could see, maybe, but I'm guessing that the other powers involve a little more than swiping a potion and drinking it, or grabbing a shark fin and strapping it to your back. The patrons probably have to, like, work with you over time to teach and/or bestow the powers, my man. "Teach me the inner workings of the dark dimension, NOW, or I bust your face in!!"

Reminds me of an old D&D campaign in which our party was contracted to overthrow a corrupt government that had been directly taken over by an overt splinter faction of the Assassins' Guild. We snuck into the "new" mayor's mansion and took him out, and the guy who did the deed started checking over the mansion, to get the lay of his new property. The rest of us were like, uh, what are you doing? His response? (Honest to god) "What? I killed the mayor! I'M the mayor now!"
  2. It's one thing to have a well realized world that requires some concept adaptation to make your character fit (my usual experience with pen-and-paper). It's another thing to start a campaign from the get-go with well defined character limitations (OK guys, I have a great campaign idea for a party of all paladins). It's another thing altogether to create a game with the illusion and expectation of incredible character freedom. There is nothing in CoV's character generator to imply that we should make our characters a certain way, or design them with certain motivations in mind. And remember, many of us are CoH vets, so it is natural to look forward to the same level of character freedom. Yes, Kalinda's briefings do a fine job at introducing us to a more focused setting, and I bought into all that no problem at release. So far, so good - but telling me that, in an upcoming patch, my character, who I've already established and fleshed out the concept for over the past 6 months, is now going to pretty much have to choose between having fish powers or ghost powers ... it's a little insulting. And the "If you don't like it, just don't play the endgame!" rationalization is plain feeble.

I'm not saying omg cyrptic i quit. I'm just disappointed, like Sam is.

    [Edited for duhhhh English usage.]

So what your complaining about is the Permanent aspect of Patron Pools?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Close, but you're way off. It's the specific nature of the power pools, not the permanence of the patron decision. In CoH, you can make your own concept and then tailor your power sets to it. Electric Fire Guy, who has electric and fire sets for his primary and secondary or vice versa, and can get some cool supreme fire or electric powers with the epic pools at level 41. In CoV, you can do the same thing with your primary/secondary ... and at level 41 you get to choose between having a giant techno-mace and shooting sharks from your hands. Or just not taking the 'ultimate' powers at all. It's a rip. I agree with him wholeheartedly. When powers get that specific, it is no longer really your character. We all have to be little Mako Jrs or Ghost Widow Jrs if we want to do the high end content.
  4. Doc Buzzsaw repeatedly uses the wrong form of "its", using "it's" as the possessive form. Remember kids, his/hers/its, not hi's/her's/it's!

She also misspells apologies "appologies". Sad to see such a high intelligence character written so carelessly.
  5. To be fair, one could argue that "typo's" is simply a contraction of "typographical errors" ...

Dammit, I'm going off topic myself. Oh well ...
  6. [ QUOTE ]
You should see far fewer typo's in powers with I7. Thing's like "it's" for "its" on the other hand, are still likely to crop up and be low priority fixes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Thanks, Castle!

... Oh, by the way, if Cryptic ever needs a smart aleck proofreader, my inf/hour rates are very reasonable. Just PM me. I mean it.
  7. In short, the SPIDER text error in Maestro's description is still there! Thanks for staying on topic!
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    Safety's makes sense to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Me, too. It's the 'saftey' that we take issue with.
  9. If you are a grammar/spelling nazi like myself, you cringe every time you see one of the many typographical errors in CoV! Since /bugging them in game doesn't seem to work, maybe if we make a big thread of them, someone will see them and have them fixed! Let's try to keep this thread lean and mean! List the mission and contact if possible, then quote the erroneous text, then type it again as it should be written! OK, go!

Seer Marino's Ghost Widow mission. At the end of the compelling cutscene, Ghost Widow ends her chilling and eloquent soliloquy by saying, "Your doom is at hand* ... and it's name is [player character's name]!" This totally defuses the drama (and makes GW look kind of dumb) for those who like to see good written English.

    *Paraphrased.

    Please change
    it's name is
    to
    its name is

    (Remember: his, hers, its - not hi's, her's, it's!)

    Thanks.

Anarchical societies don't seem to get very far.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but somehow anarchical threads can survive for 14+ months with no posts.
  11. As long as we are able to "invent" a device that will help us track down that last stupid hiding mob in a Defeat All, like people with detective skills were supposed to be able to do in an example given in a dev interview about the skill system way back when, I will not feel too ripped off.

    A fond farewell

You always struck me as very cool. Best wishes.
  13. How much of this problem would be solved, how many frustrations put to rest, if the level restrictions were removed on these secret contacts? How many times have people discovered them 'naturally' only to find that they were SOL anyway?

I'm not crazy about level restrictions on normal contacts, but I can accept them as encouragement to play through again with alts. But it seems that the hidden contact 'reward' for exploration turns out more often to be a kick in the teeth. 'Good job, you found a hidden contact, too bad you can't actually do the content now.'

Remove the level restrictions on the secret contacts. Thanks.

It's not playing, it's googling for information and that's just not a good game, IMO. Please put the 'game' back in the game where it belongs with 'in-game' clues and mysteries to unravel instead of web searches.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Quoted for emphasis. Very well put.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Well, the joke itself is pretty racist. Well, unless you believe that any part of it was unstaged. Or are we to believe that it's a coincidence that the "stupid" guy in the video was stereotypically black, what with "Leeroy" being his first name and "At least I have chicken."

    [/ QUOTE ]
Herm. I honestly didn't put that together before. That line was delivered kind of unintelligibly - I always thought it was "At least I ain't chicken." OK, now I hate the guy. But, I gotta be honest. I still think the joke of "reckless dope ruins careful plan in an MMO" is funny, and other than that flaw, <PALS FOR LIFE> staged it well.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
And this guy was made an npc in CoV why?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Because the joke is still brilliantly funny, regardless of whether the player behind it is a jerk.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
You know what is really funny about that movie, that people think it wasn't staged.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The recorded dialogue was clearly scripted, but I always theorized that the actual gameplay was real, that the guy was just filming a normal instance raid (without sound, since a player normally doesn't record that), that Leeroy really did act that dumb, his guildmates really did try to save him and got wiped, and then later they decided it was funny enough that they went back and reenacted their dialogue (unconvincingly) for recording. I don't have any first hand information, but I guessed that high level players wouldn't sacrifice that much item decay for the sake of making an artificial film that could have been done more 'cinematically' (we don't get to watch Leeroy die, for example). The visuals struck me as much more realistic than the recorded dialogue - it really does look like a guy panicking as his team gets wiped.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
i think this game could be so much more enjoyable if they would just remove level caps all together. I mean doesnt it say something when a lot of people are intentionally getting debt so they dont miss crap.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes. If Hellions boosted to level 30 really will be too easy, at least give me the option to ex down and do the arcs for inf/prestige. It worked for TFs, let it work for normal contacts and story arcs. But I actually don't see the problem with boosting the Hellions to 30.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Seriously, both games are missing the "super team" aspect, it's all just gangs led by a couple of supers. Please find a way to do this sort of thing.

I'd kill for the "final boss fight" of a Strike/Task Force to be a team of 5 different Boss or Elite Boss level villains/heroes that have witty dialogue, as well as complimentary powers and fighting tactics, instead of just a giant bag of HPs with the ability to one-shot squishies (AVs/Heroes).

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Yes. Yes, yes, yes.
  20. I like the idea of servants/minions as well, but face it, that is more of a villain thing. Heroes don't have 400 agents in identical jumpsuits in their bases; their employees, if any, are always personalized, have names, personalities, etc. This is a BASIC difference between good guys and bad guys; individual lives are important to good guys, but bad guys' underlings are faceless, interchangable, disposable.

I have no problem for generic servants for villains, but I still think that hero bases will need the color and splash of diverse hero costumes to really get the authentic feel. You can only have so many butlers before they lose their identities. One or two would be fine, even great, but then you have the empty base problem again.

This is a long dead issue for the devs. I'm glad Recluse responded (months and months and months ago), but sadly it was a pretty shallow response that he never followed up on despite LOTS of good ideas from the player base to make it work. Really, it is a totally cosmetic thing, and I understand that making gameplay work is more important than making the game look good. But without this idea being looked at and satisfactorily resolved, HQs will never be as awesome as they could be.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Well.. I KNOW I am in the minority here... but still know many people that feel the same way as I do...

What about the players that do not like the arena? Are not interested in the PvP portion of the game?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just so you know, I think the PvP enthusiasts in COH are vastly in the minority. Go to the arena and listen to the crickets chirp, and watch the tumbleweeds roll by, if you don't believe me.

Maybe you were being ironic, in which case, I retract this post.

Why isn't Superior Invisibility a Primary Stealth Power?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hear, hear. Warshades have better invisibility than Illusionists? Dark dudes have better invisibility than Illusionists? Freakin Storm Defenders have better invisibility than Illusionists?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
So City of Villians is going to have shinier graphics. Does this mean that City of Heroes will get a face lift when [City of Villains] comes out?

    [/ QUOTE ]
No. Bold mine. The COH graphics update will come later, according to bruce's post above.

Seems pretty clear cut to me, folks.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
I think this would pose a major programming nightmare, yet it would be an extremely cool feature. I'd vote yes if the technical hurdles could be overcome.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. This would clearly take a lot of work. To me, it is justified.

Think about it (and I'm not trying to point out the obvious to you, Chiyo_Mihama, I'm talking to the devs ): what is one of the greatest features of COH, something that everyone everywhere agrees that COH does better than any other game? The costume creator, right? COH characters just look great and they allow people to fulfill their conceptions to a HUGE degree. A Supergroup is like a brilliantly tailored single hero, but bigger. I want to see all the gorgeous characters that I've made and that my friends have made, all the time. When I'm at the headquarters, it only makes SENSE that many of the inactive (offline) heroes will be hanging out there. Yes, there could be minions or servants or whatever to try to lend an air of life to an empty (of online players) HQ. But it would seem weird to me to be watching the Super Friends and see Superman come to the Hall of Justice after stopping a meteor or whatever and have NO OTHER HEROES THERE. Or for Cyclops to come to the X-Men headquarters and have NONE OF THE OTHER X-MEN THERE, not even Professor Xavier. Avengers Mansion, well, OK, the Avengers are always off doing their own weird things. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I guess my point is that for a game whose strongest point is how great and unique all the characters look, it is madness not to showcase those characters as much as possible.
