Clarification. I was just not interested in market pvp. Can I? Yes. Is it fun? no.

EDIT: The phrasing you chose for your statement leads me to believe you're one of those crash helmet wearing marketeers who thinks hardcore price gouging is funny. More amusing yet (or perhaps pathetic) is that you seem to think it makes you some kinda e-thug tough guy... enjoy your dwindling population.

*shrug* have fun paying 150K for circuit boards because some marketeer thinks it's funny to screw you.

I know, it's great that we have so many options to change and advance our characters when we hit 50. It's good to be spoiled with choices.

    Lolbadges.

I have a 50 brute that has been 50 for quite some time. I have 39, 37 and 32 masterminds and several sub 20 vils. Not like redside is just overflowing with content.

There are exactly two aspects to the game.
    Content.
    Character/build technicalities.

The second requires a functional market to be interesting and have any kind of depth. Once red market is fixed through merging or some random act of god, I'll roll more red.
  6. Well, hit 20 tonight and got Stamina up and running. Talk about a world of difference. Things go much smoother and at a nice pace.

The problem wasn't lack of control or even really raw damage output... but rather lack of stam. Doing 1-2 fights and having to way on stam was just horrible. It's much much smoother now and I expect relatively smooth sailing from here on out. 21 to get slots in stamina should smooth over the few bumps left.

Looking to shape up into nice little killing machines (Don't think I mentioned I'm dual boxing fire/kins when my son is sleeping or at school). Not quite as interesting or engaging as my Storm/Ice troller I'm leveling with my son, but fun in their own way for sure.

So we're in agreement. Your original post didn't really state that you were addressing this as opposed to population loss due to market status.

I strongly disagree. The blue market has been easier to break into (AE bronze reward rolls to get me on my feet). There is greater availability and less retarded level price fixing. Circuit boards were something like 150K red side the other night and there is not a damn thing to be done about it because the market sees such little activity. Blueside price fixing happens... but with red side I would be surprised to see that price return to anything resembling normal for at least three to four days, and then only if the marketeer who did it doesn't bother maintaining it. There simply is not enough supply to prevent things like that from being cornered.

Did marketeering finally drive me (and correspondingly my sons) off of redside: Yes
Does that equal a population loss for red: Yes

It is a cause. It may not be one of the major causes of red population issues, but to say it isn't a cause of population loss is outright fallacious. A good rule of thumb I have seen applied to MMO populations is that for every person posting about an issue on the boards, there are 10 casuals in game who never visit the forums and feel the same way. I'm not saying I speak for the masses... but if it was enough to ruin red for me, doubtless there are others who feel the same. It may not be the root cause of the larger population imbalances as a whole, but it does contribute.
  10. Thanks all for the responses and insight. Unfortunately I am a mostly solo player, so it will be a long road. I am basically rerolling from red to blue on a new server and wanted to get a pair of fire/kins leveled up for general pling/farming etc. I wanted to do a little pvp, so working on new toons on freedom since I'm told that's really the only active pvp community.

I have a 50 brute and several 30+ masterminds I even have a fun little mind/psi dom in the teens. I would love to roll redside. Until they merge the markets that's just not going to happen. I'm pretty much done with red. The market population is so small many things aren't available. When they are available the redside marketeers are busy screwing you in every way they can. Blueside market is much much larger and more active, so much more pleasant to use for a casual player since it is so much more difficult for marketeers to actually lock things down. Nice work marketeers, you've driven me and my sons to play blue when nothing else so far had done so. Redside certainly needs more people being driven away since it's so overpopulated.
  11. So I am trying out a Fire/Kin since they are supposed to be fantastic and such.

Is this late blooming? Right now I am telling myself "wait till 20, wait till 20, wait till 20". It just feels like very spawn takes at least half my stam, and damage output is painfully low. I know i'm still lowbie at 18... but good lord it's just getting horrible. Slow killing and squishy as heck, with some factions the alpha will faceplant me regardless of what I do.

I know getting stamina at 20 will help, but does the set just bloom late? Looks like there are some really fantastic tools in late game /kin, which is good cause right now it's just... meh. REASSURE ME DAMNIT!
  12. The problem may be something different.

There is currently an active virus who's name I cannot for the life of me recall. It begins with an A and the extension I believe is .CT or something odd like that..

The virus's most common functions are browser redirects. So when you click a link or bookmark it will try to redirect you to another site, generally advertising or another malware site. If I can dig up the name I will post it up. It is however a VERY tenacious virus, going undetected by many scanners and even finding ways to reinstall itself if you do clean it as it also alters the host DNS settings to allow a reinstall if it is wiped.
  13. My advice to a new player...

Masterminds: Check out Sandolphons binds and use them. They bind all your pet commands to the keypad. I just use the simple cut and paste text binds listed in the thread and it is amazing.

Brutes: You're going to suck until 20. Realistically this applies to most every AT I guess. At low levels you do not have enough attacks to get a good attack chain going, and even if you did, you don't have the stamina management tools to use it for more than a fight or two (regen scrappers notwithstanding). By 20 you should have enough attacks to at least be functional most of the time and most importantly you get access to the Stamina power in the Fitness pool. For most characters you want this as close to 20 as you can manage, and you want to 3 slot it with Endurance Modification enhancements. Once you get it, and especially once you slot it... the game completely opens up.

IMO they really need to revamp the sub20 levels. If you don't have vet attack powers it's just a nightmare, and stam issues only compound the issue (Warmace/Shield brute... lawl, 2 fights and out of stam, sometimes before the second fight is over.)

    Because we can.

With proper software to broadcast keystrokes to both machines, as well as let you scroll your mouse between monitors... anyone who is well practiced at it can be extremely effective. As someone with 5 kids, I rarely get dedicated time to group. So when my sons aren't playing I can fire up their account and wreak havok with an unstoppable [dps AT] backed by my own personal [buff/heal AT]. Very handy.

WoW being the dominant force right now... Prot (tank spec) warriors are getting (pvp) nerfed because they put out too much damage with too much mobility and too much survivability. Prot paladins also have had recent nerfs due to pvp damage output.

In DAoC the tank classes were often your primary melee dps (for pvp) due to the squishyness of the rogue classes in pvp. Same goes for Shadowbane.

Currently in WoW it is often faster to level your warrior/paladin as a tank than a DPS spec because the damage is very close, and your protection spec adds a lot of survivability and longevity.

Those are the only ones I am personally familiar with... but just wanted to comment on that.

Some of us are here because we don't like the WoW approach to gaming (not that raiding in WoW is hard...) and would really rather the devs didn't waste time on content that another game already does better.
  17. I would really like people to stop misinterpreting my posts please.

I do not enjoy playing melee and being kited by ranged.

I am looking to see what people enjoy playing, and from that find a ranged or hybrid (spines for instance) that appeals to me.

I am not ******** about being kited, I am not complaining about the system etc etc. Nothing of the sort, I am looking at it from a positive manner and trying to find something that appeals to me within the existing system and player driven metagame environment. To be honest, all the people with poor reading comprehension harping on this one point instead of bringing something useful to the table are really kinda souring me on the subject.

But hey, thanks for reading the thread and at least putting something on the table.

I have seen psi/EM blaster tossed out a couple places. Is it the stun potential in EM that would make this more viable than psi/mind or is there something else I should be looking at specifically?
  18. Well... on a whim I took a tour of my hom server Justice. Didn't find a single enemy in any of the pvp zones, and the team tool showed not a single vil in any of them. I was looking at rolling a new toon to be pvp oriented... but if there isn't any to speak of on Justice, I might as well just do it elsewhere I suppose.

I seem to recall reading something about there being an 'unofficial' pvp server... infinity maybe?
  19. Well, on a whim I decided to speed on through the pvp zones to check for some action.

Well, after touring all of them I didn't see a single enemy and when I checked at the end. I was the only villain in any of the pvp zone. So... is it just a matter of timing, or are the pvp zones totally dead?
  20. Thanks, will check them out tonight after I get the wife and kids tucked in.

No, I have not. Has it improved from a melee standpoint? Used to be pretty much everyone was out of melee range 99% of the time, and resists were so high you really needn't bother actually trying to knock someone down because you only got one hit, and it sure wasn't going to take them off their feet.

Has this been improved at all so melee actually has some use for knockdown as a viable tactic? Or are you still chasing the ADHD kid jumping like he's on speed?

  23. So I've recently come back to the game and I'm looking for a good global channel to plug into to find some leveling groups. Currently I'm looking around at some corruptor builds I want to try but well... lets be honest here... soloing a low level corr blows. I'm finding that I generally get no response to broadcasts looking for team and the team interface usually nets nothing.

I've checked the Justice and Justice TF globals that are listed in the interface, but have never seen anyone talk or respond when I asked. I don't recall Justice being this quiet and deserted from when I played here before. So then... I guess the question becomes, where to from here? Cause at this point I'm about to slam my head in a door and go play blueside somewhere just because it's actually active. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I am primarily a latenight player I guess. @Zen Lexicon

Now, I have seen a couple of people spamming for teams but it is always when I can't commit to a team (kid duty). Is justice redside really this dead these days?

If a ranged character with a melee secondary kicks on super speed and jumps... even if the speed suppression kicks in halfway through the jump, they maintain their forward momentum. So they blast you, then when you come at them they can speed past, hitting you with [insert big melee hit with nasty secondary effect] and since they jumped, they maintain forward motion even when the speed suppresses and zip far out of range. The image is much like two knights jousting. One pass, one hit and then they are separated again. To my experience this term is very common here in the CoX forums and has been for a long time...

To clarify, I am not totally against jousting, and intend to use it if I make a blaster or something... I just despise trying to fight a jouster when I am on a melee character. So I am simply saving myself that headache and not trying.
  25. So, I am newly returned to the game. While I popped in to zone pvp every now and again... it was never really my focus. I am back, and looking to put together a toon for zone oriented pvp. So, I am curious, if you could only have one toon to pvp with, what would you choose and what do you love about it?

Now, I intend to use this list as a guide for things I might try and build. Part of my bias though is no jousting. I hate that kinda crap and just don't want to deal with it. I guess this means I am probably limited to a ranged toon of some sort. (Don't let this limit you in listing a joust toon as your favorite, I'm just musing 'aloud' here I suppose) A couple of the prime candidates I suppose would be a spines/regen scrapper, blaster or stalker.

Now, I already have a kat/regen scrapper, and a psi/mind blaster but I just don't see those performing well in pvp. I've got a number of masterminds and a 50 ss/wp brute red side so that would give me the advantage of having a farming capable toon already in place while my blue side toons top out at like level 15. I suppose the spines/regen scrapper would have the advantage there since I believe that would be a passable if not ideal farm toon.

Whew... kinda started rambling there. Anyways, let's hear your favorites, and if anyone wants to chime in on the rest of the mess I posted there, feel free!
