BUT....I'm extremely concerned about the perception that Defenders "aren't needed" and thus "can't find a team" at high levels.
[/ QUOTE ]
You hit it right on the head. It is just a perception. Perhaps because on lots of Defender powers you can't see just how much they are helping you.
How about adding some sort of graphical means of SHOWING the Defender's powers helping? Like showing bullets, beams, and blasts bouncing off of force fields. Like having your character dodge a certain way for DEF buffs that protected you from being hit or strike a certain pose when ACC buffs make the difference for a beam attack or swinging a certain way/different light effects when ACC buffs affect melee. Maybe including the unaltered damage you would have taken/done in parenthisis as it floats above your head/the target's head? If things like this are shown, everyone will be able to easily see just how much the defenders are helping them and no one would question having them on a team. -

Well, how about if a match is in progress, you can click on it and it will open up a window that will let you watch the match. It would be something only visible on your computer so you won't be slowing anyone else down. It could be full screen so you won't have to worry about anyone else doing something that will hose your frame rate (just have chat windows visible so you can still talk to other people but block the participants of the fight so there could be no hints from the peanut gallery). It would simply be a webcast of the fight. That should easily be feasible.
You could even do this in a specified location(s), kind of like a sports bar. Would be a great socialization spot and I am sure quite a few matches would find their start there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Only thing about blocking the participants is that you can only block what's in-game. Outside resources like teamspeak and IM's are out of the dev's control.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I do realize that but I was only mentioning something that the CoH devs can control. Basically, if someone really wants to cheat, they are going to cheat. States has already said that the observer cameras will be destroyable. Maybe that will help with the cheating. -
[ QUOTE ]
You mean like seeing the match through another player's eyes? Like ESPN mini-cams? I kinda like that idea.
I'm not very fond of the spy camera idea (cheating sucks). I'd much rather watch the match through another player's eyes, just like watching NASCAR from the "in-car" or "hood-mounted" cameras.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't think of it as the in-car camera but that would be better as long as you can change from one person to the next as you liked. That might be a problem if there are 2 eight person teams but I am sure the devs would think of something to take care of that.
As I suggested, make sure and block any outside communication with the participants. That way, there can be no cheating. You are only going to know as much about your opponents as you find out. This could change as they get sensory powers in the game. In fact, PvP might be the deciding factor for players to take any of the sensory powers.
Just picture it: You log in for a little fun, decide to hit Steel Canyon Sports, look to see what matches are going on and then tune in on a couple of your SG mates as they put on a good fight for the PCCN (Paragon City Colloseum Network). Of course, if this was a BIG match, you could even have one of the CoH radio stations doing a simucast giving the play-by-play and color commentary. (hint, hint) -

im a programer myself i know its extreamely hard to come up with something like that but if you instead of making a TV you could try like a bulletin board type of thing telling what matches are going on and at the end of the match it says the winner
wouldnt have to worrie about 20+ frames a sec just 2 the start frame and the end frame

From what I have seen in other posts, it would look like Invinc is not providing any DEF during the 10 secs of down time from the Rage crash. So, for an Inv, not only can you not attack, you get a double whammy on your DEF, too.

Rage 80% increase to base damage and Acc
Hasten 33% increase to enhanced damage and 5% Def buff
Hasten will also mean that any self buff I have will be available more often. Rage just isn't worth it anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am just reading this wrong ? Hasten is an increase to attack rate, meaning your attacks recharge faster, not an increase to the damage, although increased attack rate increases your damage output. And other than rage what self buffs do you have ? Dont get me wrong Hasten is still a good choice and yes Rage currently isnt worth haveing, the post just seems abit unclear.
So in short Super Strength now has Rage and Hurl (which is what I feel like doing) that suck. Not to mention if your an Invul. you get Unstoppable to help kill you too.
[/ QUOTE ]
You missed the roughly part for that quote. Still, for damage output, hasten will give you a larger increase than the new Rage since it increases the number of attacks you can make in the same period of time. As I said, Rage just isn't worth it anymore.
As for self buff, what about Dull Pain and Healing Flames as examples. Those definately benefit from Hasten. -
I would have to agree. Hasten would be much better than Rage given the current penalties to Rage on Test. Roughly, it is:
Rage 80% increase to base damage and Acc
Hasten 33% increase to enhanced damage and 5% Def buff
Hasten will also mean that any self buff I have will be available more often. Rage just isn't worth it anymore. -
I can see powers that go way beyond the norm having a penalty for their use. The thing is, rage isn't one of them. If the devs want to have this kind of a penalty for it's use, it should increase both my enhanced damage AND end regen by 800% for the 2 minutes. Otherwise, SS tanks are just being their whipping boys.
-
Ok, I think I have it figured out. Rage HAS to have a penalty because of all the Fire/SS, Ice/SS, and Stone/SS tanks out there. Rage affects all the damage powers in their primaries so it must make them into Damage Monsters. It is just Inv that doesn't have that so they are the ones getting hosed. So, even though it is a concept breaker (concept is having less and less to do with this game with each update, away), I want to have a damage aura added to Invincibility. That way, all the primary sets are evened out.

Nice. Rage 1.0 had the POSSIBILITY of being a suicide pill. Rage 2.0 is a GUARANTEED suicide pill. And now, Rage 3.0 is a guaranteed GROUP suicide pill. Look, if you insist on doing this, why not just save our computers the animation time and just have it immediately send the entire group to the hospital the moment it is activated.
Rage is supposed to be what our CHARACTERS do when the power is activated. Rage is not what the PLAYER is supposed to do when it is activated.
I don't know. Are the Devs TRYING to make me not want to play this game?? Because if they are, they are succeeding.... -
Something that affects everyone evenly? How about, for a period of time (possibly the same duration as the current stun), the character gets a zero base End regen. That would simulate being tired, it would hit everyone evenly, and you could make it so that it couldn't be mitigated with Stamina. However, buffs from Defenders and accolades would still be affective. That would promote teaming.
