    On Character:

    Okay. Maybe I wasn't clear.
Perhaps I'll try and put more words in the original post that may or may not denote what I'm not looking for.

I didn't make this post to complain or argue.
I didn't make this post for the sole purpose of being judged.

I want input on what gets /you/ past these things, whether or not they're problems for you (and/or why or why not).
I'm not looking for negative slants either.

    I ain't a troll (and I also ain't a he, but I forgive you ), I'm just asking questions.

    On Character:

I've been thinking a lot about you, City of Heroes, for a little while~
Going back to you for a little while is seeming kinda nice, but I've been wondering about a few things, mostly pertaining to characters.

    1) What makes playing these characters fun for you?
-I've noticed that a lot of attacks kind of seem underwhelming and kind of recycled. While that's not the case with a lot of the newer stuff, a lot of the old stuff just kind of feels... And later on game play still kind of feels like juggling cool downs. What keeps you in the game?

    2) What makes other characters fun for you?
-Missions seem to be filled with huge blocks of text. Environments seem recycled. Animations for cut scenes are sometimes odd or super plain looking. How do you deal with it, if at all? I've heard the phrase, "It's not the destination that counts, it's the journey", but is it really?

So, what do you guys have to say?

Note: This thread isn't about me complaining or raining hate on this game. If you feel about making a distinct point about arguing against the things I've said on this thread, please leave it at the door. I'm honestly just looking for the answers to questions 1 or 2, the text below is just to designate my stance and why I may be asking these questions in the first place. Thank you.
  3. Oh great and wise Silas~!
Nifty and fabulous Columbus of Archetypes~
... If y'got a minute or two, I gossa question.

With the release of Beam Rifles and what such, would you recommend that primary for any of the Corrupter support(-y) secondaries?
Or is Fire/Ice/Sonic/Radiation still pretty much top dog?
  4. Aaaagh! D:
I didn't realize that Fire Cages was -Kb. I thought I'd have a decent AoE Knock Up, going. Bummer xD
And I can't believe I didn't think about my massive lack of St damage either :x
    Changes have been made~

I added two slots into Char (one from Fire Cages and one from Slowed Response). These two slots now have two psionic damage procs in hopes of increasing my DPS.

Frownie faces for still having to rely on PvP IOs for their healthy +Res/+HP/+End
  5. Hello hello~!
The aim of this Controller is basically to be able to farm Mission Architect content for tickets in the effort to fund other builds while still retaining a very powerful hand in regular PvE content (including Task Forces, Story Arcs, and so on). I want this character to be able to obliterate much of everything without outside help, yet can still be a table turner in a team through the usage of buffs and supplemental damage.
I'm pretty sure I have this build down and it'd do the job fine, but I thought I'd get some extra opinions/some suggestions.

For more information as to what I was thinking when making this build, here's an export from what I posted on another forum board.

    Quote:
    I. The Concept
I originally created this build as one of my upcoming alts, AMPD Twilight. There's definitely a special sort of love put into this character.

She was made to be farm worthy while not being a Brute and not being a Fire/Kin. Although it doesn't have the ultimate efficiency of Transfusion/Power Siphon/Siphon Speed/Fulcrum Shift and all of those other crazy treats, I think that I've still built up a character that can survive, and survive well. Not only that, but she'll also be able to kick tremendous amounts of @$$ as well as be a very awesome buffer in normal in-game content. There also isn't the inconvenience of going Red Side.

    II. The Sale
    Layered Mitigation
Twilight here will have a variety of different ways to protect herself. Most Brutes (as far as I've seen) seem to rely on maxing their resistance towards a certain type of attack, and get "just passing" defense towards another type, usually focusing on positional. What I've done is slightly different, instead going the route of Soft Capping this characters defense (Farsight helps this a /lot/). With this build I could only get her highest resistance up to 24.9 (Smashing/Lethal). Brutes also usually have a Heal to fall back on when things go a bit south. Twilight has this in the form of Earths Embrace, and to a lesser extent Chrono Shift. Then there's the AoE Knockdown of some sort which acts as a "Take a Breather", sort of. Foot Stomp, Lightning Rod, Shield Charge, and so on. Twilight has some semblance of it in Fissure, and to a minor extent Fire Cages. Now, for the things this character has that not a whole lot of Brutes sport.

    o Slows
Both -Movement and -Recharge. This lowers the amount of attacks that are coming through at you.

    o Lockdown
AoE Holds have been sprinkled all around this build. Fire Cages has a chance. Distortion Field has a chance. Both Flashfire and Cinders also have definite holding capabilities.

    o Pets
Whether it be taking the heat or adding extra damage output. You have Imps. But they're much more noteworthy once you get Farsight, Maneuvers, Tactics, Chronoshift, and Temporal Selection in the mix.

Those 3 more items should hopefully make up for the differentiation between Brute and Controller, as far as farming capabilities go.

    III. The Next Level
Alpha Slot: I definitely recommend Cardiac. This character will be very active, especially with the amount of recharge that it has and your most active skill recharging every 3 seconds and eating about 10 Endurance each cast (Fire Cages). It almost doesn't even seem like enough just to get Tier 4, but hopefully it'd do.

Judgement: There's a certain delicious synergy with Cryonic Radial Final Judgement. The Extreme DMG is nice, but the added -Speed, -Recharge, and Chance for Hold should give you that breathing room you may need in a pinch.

Interface: Adding insult to injury, my first choice would be Gravatic Core Flawless(victory) Interface. Since we're already throwing around a buttload of slows, this should turn a snails crawl into (hopefully) incapability of movement all together. If there ever was a Recharge Slow cap, you probably hit it by now. The recovery debuff is just icing on the cake. Keep in mind that this would likely also apply when using Fire Cages, the number one button you should be pressing. As I've built Fire Cages like a chainsaw*, it suddenly becomes literally one of your deadliest skills.

A second Interface that I'd suggest, if you want to diversify your mitigation even moreso would be the Paralytic Radial Flawless Interface for the Damage Debuff, making it so that when you are hit, it's for even less than normal. If you aren't in love with slows and feel as though your resistance just isn't enough, this could increase your survivability a good bit.

Lore: Quite honestly it's up to you. If I knew more about Lore I'd have more to tell you. If there's anything that stacks Slows/-Res/-Def/-DMG, then you should probably choose that to give yourself even more breathing room.

Destiny: As I don't know a whole lot about Destiny, take my words with a grain of salt. I'd suggest either the Barrier Core Epiphany or the Ageless Core Epiphany. Whether you pick Barrier or Ageless pretty much determines whether or not you feel as though your survivability is cutting it or not. Ageless could also assist with persistent Endurance problems, while Barrier will pick up the slack left behind by Tough.
    Thoughts~? : D

    Sonic/Fire

owo~ Well, the originality/rareness factor does give some hitch in the giddy up.
But Knight sure gave a huge block of "I probably shouldn't" that makes a whole lot of sense.

It started as a lame concept and pretty much an outcry against my Sonic/Pain Corrupter.
I hated its low damage output, but loved the animations and generally how Sonic felt.
I thought the stacking of mini-DOTs along with the -Res might make it nifty.

But yeah, I never took into account the fact that I'd be smashing cones and PBAoEs together like an angry converging fault.
Either way I'll have to get... maneuverable, but hopefully that's not something a long playthrough with a Scrapper can't fix.

Hmm, a way to make Sonic usable...

My brain's starting to itch, but I think I'm gonna dig it :d

    -Doom Chain of Burning Overkill(?)
Sirens Song -> Melt Armor -> Howl -> Amplify -> Build Up -> Dreadful Wail
    Not dead yet? D:
+ Consume -> Combustion -> Flame Sword Circle?

Then again, it seems really lengthy D:

    Sonic/Fire

    Any suggestions?
Is there any synergy between these two sets?
What would it be capable of at the later levels?
How would it compare to the other blasters?

    I'd deeply appreciate a response.
    Thanks!
  8. Thank you, thank you all! This fill my heart with hope, which is interesting because usually it's filled with this weird sticky red stuff (I think they call it 'Strawberry Yogurt'). From all of your suggestions I've pretty much set up a decent way to revitalize my love for City of. My girlfriend totally didn't buy into any of it, but she'll wait until Going Rogue comes out (taking from Eva Destruction's idea). The list of A.E arcs is also long and beautiful, love it. I'd continue going on about how I used everyone's suggestions but then my fingers would fall off, which would suck for me.

Thank you all for the assistance, I really appreciate it. Feel free to keep posting, maybe someone else could use the various suggestions on this thread to help make the experience of putting their cape back on a little bit easier.
