But divine power does = male - the whole setup is male until the creation of Eve.

    Lilth?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a later addition - plus, her story still says that she was created after Adam - the difference between her and Eve being that while Eve was created from Adam, Lilith was created in the same way as Adam.

Rather than "angel", the word "spirit" might be better - Satan is a spirit, a divine power, a son/creation of God who turned to evil.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. Pretty much this. But what I was pointing to was the "Angels are sons of god, Satan is a fallen angel, thus Satan is Male" argument, which is flawed logic if Satan is "a fallen divine power"

  3. I think the word "angel" can cause problems sometimes, because people think of it as being about these guys with long hair and wings watching over and helping people - the word angel is linked in peoples minds to the idea of goodness and morality.

Actually, I think it's the other way around - if you don't have an army that's prepared for war, then that makes it more likely you'll be attacked

So the rage has to be incoherent?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mostly. Your objection, in this case the lack of animated hair, is more of a skeletal framework upon which to build a vast fortress of vitriol and hate. Through judicious use of lunatic tangents, brutal similes and horrific excalamations of violent retribution you will cover many subjects with only a loose connection to each other and the main topic, but ultimately support it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But what good is that if people don't know what you're shouting baout?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Of course, have you learned nothing from the forums?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, if you're going to get angry about something, wouldn't making it clear what you were angry about make it more likely that someone might help you?
  8. So the rage has to be incoherent?
  9. But the guidelines it's presenting are encouraging people to view women as weak, easily tempted and deceitful - it's telling men "don't worry, it's not really your fault - it's hers" - which brings us back to the whole witchcraft thing - presenting women as evil, and the cause of all problems.

Well, in Matthew 12, Jesus refers to Satan as "he"

[/ QUOTE ]You might want to read the bible in a language that doesn't have gender-specific versions of he/she then

    [/ QUOTE ]

Damn it you got there first. The translation of the bible uses he and she in places where a non gender specific term was used in the original text. This is due to language limitations.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Angels = male (male names, and called the Sons of God) - Satan = fallen angel - Satan = male.
The entire divine structure was presented as male - God, then the Sons of God, then Adam, mad in God's own image, with one of the Sons of God, Satan, being given authority by God to test Adam.
In this setup, women are very much an afterthought - Eve isn't planned, and is only created when Adam becomes lonely - and she isn't even independently created - she's made from Adam's own body.
Her main function, apart from being to explain where women come from, is to act as the fall girl and absolve Adam of too much blame - if Satan's role is to test Adam, then it's Adam he should be testing with the temptation of the apple, not Eve - but that would place all the blame on a man, which wouldn't suit the male structure.
So the blame is shifted to Eve instead, making Adam seem less guilty of breaking a divine command - it is the woman, the being who is not made in God's own image, that is presented as the cause of the problem.

No, no, no, Golden Girl,... that was far too polite!.
You need to get in touch with your pent-up rage over the complete lack of the animated hair feature.

See Khorak for anger enhancement classes!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't have any pent-up rage about anything - certainly not a computer game
The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and neither should the players - it's just entertainment
And it's better to look for positives rather than negatives anyway - in RL and in-game

This is the impression I get. I like CoX because it's like reading a book/comic/watching a film. I want to be able to play the game without worrying about making the "wrong choice" Going Rogue is a great idea but I'd rather it was an arc that can be done (or not) depending on whether you want to.

I want to play a comic book, not write it. And, while I'm all for new ATs; "City of Not-quite-heroes-but-not-really-evil-villains-either" just doesn't float my boat.

Sorry NC, but mission creator, power customisation and new zones are great - I just don't want anything to do with your "moral compass".

And yes - I think that it may be enough to push me away from the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you really mean that you've never ever done a mission or arc where you've found yourself wishing you were able to do it in a different way?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for your reply Golden Girl

No - I'm not saying that I've never thought that an ending could use a little more "oomph", but then again I've never thought - in the middle of the Westin Phipps Arc [Probably the most discussed CoV Spoiler ever ahead...!] "If only I could save these Freaks, maybe help teach them the error of their ways..." And the reason I've never thought that? Because I'm playing a Villain! [end of Spoiler]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but there are different types of Villains - and Heroes.
A Villain doesn't have to be a monster that follows every order without question - there can be Villains who sometimes feel guilty for their actions, or Villains who have their own twisted moral code, or Villains who serve no one but themselves, and would attempt to use every mission to gain advantages for themselves, even if it meant going against the contacts wishes or orders.

Like that Westin Phipps arc, for example - you can carry out his orders to the letter if you want to, but wouldn't it be good if players also had the option of telling the teacher that the authorities were on to her, but that you could arrange it so that she and her Freaks got to safety - but only on condition that she got the Freaks to help you first with some other mission, like a very large heist, where you'd need the extra manpower.
That would give an alternative ending mission for the arc, and once that was done, and you return to Westin Phipps, you can then either lie, and say the teacher got away (and continue to get missions from him), or tell him what you'd done and laugh in his face (he no longer gives you misisons, but a new contact is opened up as a result of the heist you did with the Freaks).

So instead of just following orders no matter what, you're given the choice of following orders, screwing over your contact but lying about it, or screwing over your contact and getting a new one instead.
You're still being evil and doing evil things, but you're able to choose the level of evil, instead of being a monster the whole time.

I'm not really sure if there's anyhting I actually dislike in the game - more things I think are ok, but could be made better.
