  1. That's the idea - the more people who register and recommend this story as something CNN should take futher, the better the chance we'll have of getting more attention for it.
  2. And we've just hit CNN:

    http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-8373...feeds%2Flatest

We suggest people register and recommend the report as something CNN should take further.
  3. Also, just to et you know, as part of the player rescue effort, and building on the spread of our story on gaming and mainstream news sites, we're planning to issue a press release tomorrow that outlines the situation and our goals, which should help to continue coverage of the story.

Meanwhile, we're continuing the letter writing campaign to the head of NCSoft, as well as the online petition - and any Twitter users are encouraged to use the hashtag #SaveCoH in an attempt to get it trending.
  4. I'll repost this here, because Protean told me that he liked it the first time I posted it a couple of years ago:

While Concept-Art isn't necessarily my current forte, I've put together some minor plans against the idea of a "CoH-esque" city concept, and up until right this second, I haven't really thought about it since. Would be something to throw my hat into if things go that route; and I'm sure there might be a few other artists that could be dredged up that have concept-experience.
Nothing's been decided at all - the name "Phoenix City" seems to be quite a popular choice for the city, though - both for the idea of rising from the ashes, and for keeping the "PC" shortening.
As the game would be meant to be a home from home, the city layout would very likely follow the current Paragon City layout, with a few changes, especially if it was designed to have no war walls.

That would depend on their future plans - until last Friday, the 80+ staff were working on CoH and the super secret next gen MMO project - unless they get hold of the rights to the secret project, or begin work on one themselves, then there would be more people than were needed just for CoH in its current state.
An alternative could aslo be another expansion for CoH - during the development GR, the staff were ramped up to 70+, so a similar expansion could take in all the members of the team who were working on the secret project.
Having a new MMO in development or an expansion for their existing one could also be a useful hook for investors.

It's still a long shot - but the word "discussion" implies that NCSoft are at least prepared to listen - unless all it means is that Positron is using a sledgehammer to break down an NCSfot exec's door to arrange a "meeting".
  8. I was wondering when you were going to show up - and you can be rightly proud of Praetoria - it's the single biggest and most complex storyline in the whole game.

From the use of the word "investors", it sounds more like they are looking to negotiate a separation from NCSoft, and try to put together backing to become an indie studio.

Make sure to emphasize that they're trying to work something out - not that they are working something out - the main thing to let people know is that the devs are not accepting the closure either, and are working as hard as us to rescue the game.

  12. The bit that sounds really good is "Paragon management" - not "some of the developers" - it makes it sound like they are still holding the studio together in at least some way.

[Admin] Alpha Wolf: Sorry guys but I don't have any new update. I know Paragon management is having discussion with ncsoft and investors. Continue get people to sign online petitions, post on game forums, and just continue to make noises so ncsoft cannot ignore players.
So there are at least some of the devs - maybe even the whole stuido - who are taking an active role in the rescue effort.

Not yet - but their track record on selling off MMOs that they want to close is not very good.
  15. The major problem with removing war walls would be the edge of the city - there'd have to be something that would eventually stop the player from going past the limit of the playable zone space.

I can totally promise you that no matter what happens - even if NCSoft refuses to shift an inch from their current plan - there will an online city for you and your character to call home.
It'd take time to set up, and at the start it'd be pretty buggy and laggy, and nowhere near the scale and scope of the current game - but over time it would grow into something totally unique and special.

They are - and as far as I know, the NDA related to them has expired.
  18. Here's an example of a signature CoH feature that could quite easily be changed in any spiritual successor, even though it'd be a major change - war walls.
Removing them is a frequently made request, and the devs did the best they could in Praetoria within the current engine limits to give us the invisible walls between zones - but any spiritual successor to CoH would be using a much newer engine, giving the possibility of one single city zone - but would that remove too much of the CoH feeling for some players? What if we took a poll on it, and found a 60-40 split in favor of removing them? It's a clear majority, but what about the 40% who'd obviously regard war walls as an important part of the CoH experience?

This is just an example of the kind of stuff we'd be faced with in any attempt to make a spiritual successor to CoH - it wouldn't just be a group of player-developers deciding amongst themselves what, in their opinion, was and wasn't part of the CoH experience - it'd be a constant dialog between as many CoH fans as possible to try and create the best possible follow up to CoH - every single planned change would need to be polled and talked about to try and come up with a solution that pleased as many people as possible.

You wouldn't be the only one - we're offering to give them money for something that they wouldn't make a cent on if they followed through with their current plan - there's no way that our positon is unfair or unreasonable.
  20. Any spiritual successor that we tried to set up would have to follow the design goal of "CoH, but better" - it would need to offer all the things that players like about CoH, but with a more modern engine, and even small changes from the CoH template would need to be handled very carefully.
The reason that people are so passionate about CoH is because it's CoH - if we were going to try and start up a spiritualk successor, then it'd have to offer them the same experience.
  21. I would - but I get the feeling that NCSoft simply doesn't want the game anymore - they could have scrapped the secret project, reduced the dev team, merged the servers, even gone into maintenance mode of they wanted to.
  22. Another key part of the whoel structure of CoH was the way anything beyond the basic game was always optional - IOs, Incanrate system, PvP, bases, AE, SGs, aution house and so on - even the entire misison system could be ignored if the player chose to street sweep.

Any spiritual successor to CoH would need to have nothing that players had to do if they didn't want to.

COH mechanics (sidekicking, alignement, etc), lore and customization merged with Tera-like combat would be awesome...
We'd have to be very careful about making changes form the current style of combat - it's one of the key elements that's often brought up when players say what they like best about CoH.

The design goal of any spirritual successor would have to be "CoH, but even better".

Of course, I'm absolutely in favor of saving what we have NOW, keeping the community together, keeping the game afloat.

But to be frank, the game is old. And looks it. The mechanics are fabulous, character creation unrivaled, sidekicking, base building, mission creator, the enhancement system - all unique and wonderful. But they're clunking along with a frankly often-ugly graphic set in a very old engine.

I'd love to not ONLY save this game now, but see someone working on a successor game that would be more modern and actually ATTRACT new players.

I can't help playing GW2, looking at the beautiful graphics, the wonderful character customization (yes, not like COH, you can't pick your outfits and you have to use loot, but being able to sculpt my character's face exactly how I wanted instead of using one of the blurry pre-mades was GOLD!) the fluid movements and engine and all I can think is - DAMMIT I WANT COH TO BE IN THIS ENGINE AND GRAPHICS!
As the "spiritual successor" option is Plan Z if NCSoft gives us nothing, then that would mean a new engine, as we wouldn't have access to the current engine.
