Enter and compete for a free Wacom Graphire4 pen tablet!! Amateur or professional, all are welcome to enter. Just keep the art family-friendly, only original work, and do your best! Please DO NOT post your entries in this thread. More contest info can be found on our Events page with details on where to send your art and what to include. So sharpen those pencils and good luck!

Eh, not to worry. I'll pretty much go over my way of doing the basics. I won't give away any of the crucial ancient secrets.
-
Thanks Sayia! Oh and I forgot to mention that we just updated our site to include our very own Forums! I'll be posting my Work In Progress stages there and in the future I plan on possibly offering some workshops on how I do what I do.

Thanks all for the comments! Here is another piece I finished up this morning: Mjolnir vs. Sword of Surtur
-
The next completed piece is up: The Chemist!!

TOONS artwork will be offered in 3 different styles: traditional (American animation style), anime/manga, and caricature. There will also be 2 different styles of color: comic color (just like Halley's Comet, very detailed) or cartoon color (basic flats and shadows). I'm working on samples for all of these options so when the site launches it will be easier to understand the differences.
-
For those of you who have been wondering about the Toons site, I'm still working on a few samples before we actually launch. But here's the first completed sample, a manga/anime style piece of Halley's Comet.

Thanks Mothers Love! I actually do enjoy working digitally as it's a lot easier to make adjustments and I am very comfortable drawing with my stylus pen. If I had a Wacom Cintiq pad I would definitely go digital all the way. But at the same time, clients really like to receive the hard copy artwork because it's more substantial. Plus there's nothing like inking with a real brush that makes the artwork that much more 'authentic feeling', as opposed to a print out. I'm happy working either way really.

Great info Guys! Yep I'am on my second copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way. THe first on looked like it had been through a war when I was through with it...lol. Or like Swissy said use that Google-fu becasue there are tons of art resources on the web.
*Note to Self: Keep a close eye on Coin_ as he is planning a future coup d'état* -
Bayani requested a piece that would pay homage to his favorite comic book cover Uncanny X-men #141. I was more than eager to work on this piece. However I must admit I had a few butterflies fluttering around in my stomach as I did my best to pay the proper respect to a great artist like John Byrne.
Now without further ado, I proudly present...
Bayani

THanks guys, glad your digging the sketches!
Thinking back over the last 2 weeks and looking at the 8 gig folder where the complete Halley's Comet art now resides, I remember my second day into this piece. The only version of the HC file got corrupted on a save! I stared at my screen for about an hour in disbelief. I sucked it up and got back on the 'artistic horse' if you will. A few days later CRASH!! BLAM!! The HC file didn't open and neither did the 2 I saved before it. So I rebelled! I worked on everything else but it for 2 days lol. Then I built up the courage to face HC YET AGAIN!!!! SO I AM HERE TO PROCLAIM THAT I HAVE CONQUERED THIS MASSIVE PIECE!!!
I present: Halley's Comet
XXL Version: XXL Halley's Comet -
Latest update is up! Check out Grae Knight!

Stunning absoultely stunning, what was the total amount of hours you put in? because i can deffinetly tell it took a lot of time and effort into making that. Keep up the good work
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks Omega. Hmmm, I'd estimate that the total time spent on Countess Ivy was around 18 hours.
Now for the next work in progress! The very first commission piece last year was a pencil combat scene for Missy K, which is now being upgraded to color. Here are the inks right now: Missy K

Thanks Coin! The Static's Son art, although I really enjoy working on those characters, had to be put on hold so I can work down my current queue of pending orders. Once my schedule is more flexible and the new sites are launched, I'm hoping to finish those up.
-
All right folks, Countess Ivy is now complete!
-
Thanks for the feedback thus far guys!
Mesmer, if this were to be an ink-only piece, I would have inked all the textures and intricate details in. But since this is a full color piece, the inks are really more like a transition stage, to polish it up so the final version in color will show all the details and bring it all together. To give you guys a better idea of where I plan on taking this piece, the location is a moonlit jungle. So I will have a lot of fun playing with the lighting. Countess Ivy has really fair skin and white hair so I anticipate her jumping right off the page considering the background. The slightly darker grey in the background is going to be the rest of the jungle scene that I will add in color with no hard lines so it wont pull away from the character. I will also add some atmospheric effects to establish depth of field. -
My pleasure Starstorm! I'm glad you like your piece.
Now here's the Countess Ivy inks I just finished and updated! -
Those came out really well Valens. How long did each piece take you to create?
-
Thanks again for the support everyone! And thank you FireGuardian for the conversion.

Are you playing on Union or Defiant?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually the wife and I made our characters on both servers. We weren't sure which of the two was more popular or too crowded. So I guess we'll see. We don't play too often, but if you're ever looking for us, our chars are Gill Bates and L u s h. -
Thanks for all the kind words everyone, and the warm welcome!
Mesmer, thanks thats a huge compliment and I do agree with you on JL's Superman. I must say I love the way he illustrates Batman.
War Engine, I am simply sharing my fan art with the community. You dont have to pay to view my gallery, its available to everyone. My site also isn't loaded with advertisements and BUY NOW! buttons that pressure people to spend money. As a matter of fact I'm not currently taking orders right now due to the size of my current queue, and other projects in production. I hope this puts you at ease in regard to me wanting to share my art.
Frazzle, Yup you were the first
Max, we obviously were postin at the same time...lol!
