I'll try to be there, but I'm unavailable earlier and it might run over ;-(
Total Hami newb, so guess it's time for me to read the guide -
My take on it is that we know (from bridger etc) that there are multiple people working on different aspects of the game. I highly doubt there's a "typo" team though, so I suspect it comes either under general bug squishing (which is probably too busy much of the time, or the mission peeps, who are probably too busy on i8).
Shame really, would be nice for someone to take a pass through the many typo's in the game atm. I bugged "TheGutter" way back on the first day of i7 test and it's still there, and that one is WAY obvious. -
Thanks for the reply,
Yeah, I'm mainly pve, and endurance is top of my limited number of issues with that char.
I'll prob take the mace with my bot/dark "science" Mastermind though, either that or Ghost Widow. -
Since i7 is finally upon us, I've gotta ask....which PPP do peeps think is best for a fire/fire brute, I'm leaning towards Sirocco (the Mu Powers) at the mo, simply because I think the end drain might be handy.

I just hope someone actually reads these...

As long as you're /bug'ing them as well, I'm sure someone does.
I suspect text string errors are quite low on the foodchain for bugfixes though, after all, they're not stability threatening or anything.
Saying that, I know they've fixed some silly ones like that, as I've not seen any NPC's called "GenericNPCName" for a good while. Though there are still the wonderful bombs in Terra Volta called "DoesntMatter" ;-) -
Yay, lucked out and got myself and an empath mate into a group doing it ;-)
Thanks anyway. -
If anyone has the mish that gives the Spelunker badge (save the fortuneteller) steel/sky lvl9-15 could they give me a yell on @linainverse if they don't mind dragging a lvl34 exemplared kinetic defender along?
Thanks -
Because "already" and "currently" surely shouldn't be together like that in the same sentence - "This account is already logged in." or "This account is currently logged in." both read well to me and make sense, where as "This account is already currently logged in.", well, one word seems spurious and ungrammatical.
Or am I wrong?
Edit: Which I appear to be since Winword's grammar checker doesn't flag it - Fair enough then. -
Then there's the classic "You are already currently logged in" (approx quote) if you disconnect and reconnect too soon.
Edit: It's actually "This account is already currently logged in." -

When I say 'warn', even letting teams know at the beginning of how it works, rather than saying every time, would probably be enough - I used to team a lot (on a Controller alt of mine) with a Kineticist who would just warn her teams every-so-often that if they wanted buffs and heals, they needed to get in close and stay there. We all did, and we powered through mobs with few deaths on most teams she ran. It can be hard to convince some people they're really safer and better off standing toe-to-toe with the mobs, but it works.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks, good point.
I designed a bind to warn I was going to unleash it, then realised with 3 recharge SO's in and having Hasten/Siphon Speed running a good portion of the time i'd be spamming it
every 20 seconds (with hasten) or 30 or so without - mega annoyance.
I've already got binds saying "Please tell me if you DON'T want Speed Boost (+spd, +recharge, +recovery) or if you DO want Increase Density (resist knockback, hold, immob, disorient, resist energy/smashing dmg)." and "$target is centrepoint of Transfusion, please stay near him/her to take advantage of it." so it wouldn't be hard for me to adapt it to warn about Fulcum.
Thanks -
Thanks for the replies guys.
Having played with it more now (and got some acc in it, which helps immensely of course), I've found it does work how I thought and how various peeps have commented, but it depends on the group.
I had one group last night that was tilted in the favor of melee chars, in which case I ran in so that they got the buff from me as well, but any ranged chars got nothing.
The second group was mainly ranged, and they didn't run in anywhere near melee range during combat, so I stayed back with them, allowing them to get the buff from me, and the melee chars to get whatever they got from the mobs.
I myself don't have many attacks right now (until 35/38 and a spec rethink), but when I do, I appreciate I'll need to be in melee range if I want the big buffs
Thanks again. -
Thanks for the fast reply Max.
You mean I myself will, or my teammates? because if I run into melee range, then the casters will get nothing at all.
Edit: Beginning to think this is down to party makeup, in a scrapper heavy team what you said makes perfect sense, but in a blaster heavy team for instane, or a balanced team... -
OK, I'm officially confused (some will say "nothing new here"
).
Got fulcrum shift last night, and took it to be as the description ingame and in the hero builder describes - target enemy in group, fire Fulcrum, enemy debuffed, all enemies in range of him radiate +DMG to chars in range, I radiate +DMG to chars in my own range.
However, a controller on our team insisted that it was a Melee range attack, and that I was using it wrong. When I said "but, the description says 'ranged'..." he said basically "Look, I've got a high level kinetic char myself".
Can someone elaborate, am I missing something important or was the guy just wrong.
Copied the skills description ingame and in the char builder below:
Ingame:
Ranged (Foe AoE), Foe -DMG, Team +DMG
Fulcrum Shift drains the power of a targetted foe and all foes nearby, transferring it to all adjacent allies, the caster, and those near the caster. Affected foes will deal less damage, while your affected allies will deal more. The more foes that are affected, the more power your allies recieve. Fulcrum Shift can dramatically turn the tide of a melee battle.
Hero Builder:
Click | Target | AoE (30 Ft)
Rng: 60
Fulcrum Shift is the crowning power of Kinetics and delivers upon its' promise of "dramatically turning the tide of battle". This power acts as a mass Siphon Power. The target of this power and enemies within the AE get hit with a Damage Debuff. Each affected enemy then radiates an AE damage buff for you and any allies near that enemy. You also create an AE buff that is centered around you as well. Just a small cluster of enemies can easily add 100% damage to those in melee range and if you hit the right clusters its possible to stack icons from one side of the screen to the other. This power's effect also stacks with those of Siphon Power. This power can make every member of your team hit the +damage cap for their powers. Fulcrum Shift provides one +25% damage buff per enemy affected by this power. In addition the user of this power radiates an AE buff that provides a +50% damage buff. Each target affected by Fulcrum Shift suffers a 25% reduction in his damage dealing. The target's damage cannot be reduced to less than 10% of his original damage. This effect scales with the relative level of the mob. -
Thanks guys for the input so far.
I was forced to agree with comments raised earlier about being pure support when I ended up in a group with two empaths the other day. What a yawnfest that was without any attacks. Luckily most of my teams don't have any empaths, never mind 2 ;-)
Hopefully I can start to rebalance after 35 (Fulcrum at 32 ofc). And be a bit more offensive when the team allows.
I should be in a position to make more use of this next respec (or i7 hopefully). -

Please don't misunderestimate me! That's not in the slightest how I meant it - I'm always sticking my nose in on kinetics builds and there's nothing I'd say that hasn't already been said
I'm trying to wean myself off of giving advice

lol, fair enough m8. That's not how it read to me though, it was more along the lines of "wow, there's so much wrong with this build, where do I start correcting this idiot...hmm, there's not enough hours in the day for that, I'll leave it" -
Thanks for the input guys,
Aid self was simply because something has to be taken in order to get the res, and I find aid self more handy (though very situational, during travel, after fights, etc) than the alternative.
IR with 3 Jump Enhs should be the same as SJ with 3 slots or so shouldn't it? I understand that this is the correct slotting to max out SJ. Though in that build I did forget to add the Recharge SO which of course is needed.
I'd also like more End Mods Enh's in Transference, but then it's pretty effective as is, not sure it needs 3 (got one in there atm, according to hero builder it heals 60% + 20% from the SO, so 80% with one SO, unless I misunderstand it).
I'm very unsure of ID tbh, but and also think it's situational, partly to help players who complain about the speed from SB, and partly reactive as you say.
As for the attacks, I've not very much clue atm, but I know there's not enough slots to slot them all up to 6 (especially last two).

I'm sorry you feel that way m8, but perhaps not posting at all is less inflammatory, as a comment like that basically says "you're a n00b, I can't be bothered replying, but I'll exercise my sarcasm instead".
Not everyone has been playing a Defender since the dawn of time, and like everyone else I try to improve my playstyle though experience and the help of others, much as I've to assisted people with specs I'm more familiar with. -
Ok, I've switched out Repel for the Snipe again, and the only real choices I had post 34 were attacks anyway, bearing this in mind, this is what I'd get:

So pre 35 everything is tailored to aiding the party, after that it switches over to more damage orientation. I could probably work in some of those pre-32, but I'd lose other things I feel are more useful at that time.
Can't see me being able to nuke THAT heavily anyway, since I don't have stamina.
Looking better? -
Yeah, I was thinking of Will Domination (avail from lvl20), Psychic Wail (lvl38) and Mass Hypnosis (APP) for that side of it. However, whenever I'm casting them, it's end/time that I can't be using to heal/buff so wasn't too sure if it was desirable (I don't fancy "You didn't heal me because you were doing WHAT?" from the team
). As for the snipe, I had that pre-respec, but hardly used it, might be worth slotting it and giving it another try, after all, can't see me using Repel either tbh.
I guess it really depends on the team makeup, generally I'm not in a position to insert many attacks in, as running heals and buffs keeps me busy. -
I've reached 29 with my pure support kin/psy defender, and everything seems to be working well, especially since I tweaked a few things in a respec. However, I'm seriously stuck for ideas for when I hit 35, as I run out of skills to get that are useful for the party.
Anyone got any ideas where I could take this, and for that matter any suggestions how I could improve this build?

My current thinking:
* I know I'm heavily specced into medicine, and some will say "should have created an Empath then", but I specifically wanted a kinetic for the buffs, however I cannot stomach not being able to help that ranged char stood beside me, just because he's out of range of transfusion.
* Some friends suggested the Stealth Pool to me, but 1) it slows me down, and that's an issue with SB on the rest of the team at times, and 2) I think I break stealth every time I use Transfusion/etc?
* No mez protection, guess I'm gonna be loaded down with Break Frees.
* Vengence is the only real team buff I can see that I've not picked from my PP's as is, not really sure how useful it's going to be?
Note: I've only got repel because it beats picking ANOTHER low level attack I won't use -
Thanks guys, yeah, it's for PvE, but I didn't fancy Dark Armour, as i've been there before with brutes, wanted a change ;-)
I thought I'd read that Regen was generally a bit better, so I'll prob go for that, then ;-)
Thanks again. -
Going to create a MA/xx scrapper in the next couple of days, and wondering which is more suitable, SR or Regen? Also would prefer to avoid any ugly auras etc ;-)
Thanks for any info guys -
Thanks TI,
That was a crazy crazy night, prob one of the most all out fun groups I've had on CoX so far
Hopefully see you soon m8. -
[ QUOTE ]
For my brute none of the patrons/powers fit his concept, and for both I just find all the powers a bit... meh... especially compared to the choices that heroes get from CoH APPs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dunno, I'm quite looking forward to a ranged attack, I currently use a temp power to pull and might be able to make use of it, same for the AoE immob (I'm thinking during AoEing here maybe). The others are less interesting imo though, the pet particularly as I suspect it's more a toy and will die in battle easily.
But then, I've no heroes high enough level to take advantage of the APP's, so I'm no expert on the difference.
[ QUOTE ]
My first was EverQuest - at 50 you were pretty much forced into the same equipment as everyone else of the same class, so we all looked identical and couldnt customise our skills/powers at all. Ive played tons of MMOs since then, but none of them gave me as much control over how my character looks/plays as CoH/CoV does.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hehe, that sounds horrendously familiar. Walking through a major town on a saturday afternoon, with 100's of chars who all look the same as the others of the same class and with the same cookie-cutter builds.
Like you've indicated "connecting" with your char is important imo, and frankly being stood in a town saying "look at me, I'm generic damage dealer/tank number 503232" doesn't cut it. My problem is I tend to create chars before the backstory, so that gives me some major headaches
[ QUOTE ]
Im still driven to level my MM (because it's not hard, and I want to see what the L32-38 powers are like), but Im starting to think Id have found a /Dark Corruptor more fun/challenging
[/ QUOTE ]
Got a mate who rolled fire/dark after seeing my MM's debuffing, seems to work well, I'm after a /kin corrupter, but to be frank Ice isn't suiting me. I've yet to find a corrupter that really gels, even though I adore the /kin, /dark and /rad sets. But that's a discussion for another topic -
[ QUOTE ]
Incinerate never really did it for me, I preferred the extra burst damage from Fiery Embrace for boss fights etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hehe, I thought long and hard before postponing Fiery Embrace until after I7, but I was feeling relatively weak single-target (I didn't have Greater Fire Sword at the time either), so decided to buff it that way. My decision would probably been very different if I didn't know for a fact that I'll only take a maximum of 3 of the PPP powers, if that.
[ QUOTE ]
Glad you're enjoying your Fire/Fire. Personally I still prefer Fiery Embrace to Incinerate , just like FireKitty does, but the great thing about this game is that we have the choice to be different, unlike so many MMORPGs I've played where everyone is the same at top level. I love that about CoH/CoV.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, me too. My last (and tbh first) MMO was WoW, and the horror of specs (linked to the utter trivial nature of obtaining a respec - pay the vendor, there ya go) ruined a lot of play. Mages were expected to respec Ice for endgame, because there was a lot of fire resist, and if you were fire, then you were useless in most peoples eyes (even if you never set foot in those places). Not to mention the fun and games I had with my healing druid ;-)
Frankly, I'm glad that we can't currently respec into a different tree, as I suspect there would be pressure to spec into a cookie cutter build something like ss/inv I think. As is people accept my char for what it is.
As for finding other AT's to play, I get a lot of pleasure from my bot/dark/meds/tp MM, playing him as a sorta defender with pets or something ;-). But like you say, it's hard finding a fun char that really "gels". -
Hehe, aye, I loved Fiery Embrace, but I really wanted Incinerate back, so it had to go until issue 7
And yeah, I've just hit 38 as well, getting together would be a great idea, I've also got my 38 bot/dark/meds mm stuck around as well, need to get both to 40 before I7
