Why did you pick up a mission that was too hard for you to solo on a toon that can't solo?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um...because it was in a story arc? In this case, it was the last mission in Serpent Drummer's arc, and I just can't handle the Rikti Heavy ambush while attacking Hro'Dhotz. And believe it or not, it's not "oh, wow, I really want those merits"--I like the content, I do arcs I enjoy.

    [ QUOTE ]
If your mission awards merits to all, then teams would be much more willing to help you complete them and you are much more likely to get a team with rewards going to all, with out the risk of too many merits being added to the system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That wasn't my experience from before merits were added to the game and from before auto-complete was added to the game. Having just done the mission once, saying "You know, I've got this mission too, can we do my copy now" was rarely if ever done. And, to be fair, if I were on a team, I really don't want to do the same mission eight times, one for each person. It's BORING.

    [ QUOTE ]
That aside if you really get a mission you can't complete solo and you absolutely can't find a team you can still use the mission drop feature every 3 days.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why is the drop mechanism so much better than auto-complete?

Given my choice, between losing auto-complete and losing inventions, invention salvage, and merits--my preference would be dropping the invention system. Auto-complete is huge, and I just wished the minor problems with it (where getting the same mission from different contacts won't give you the auto-complete option) was fixed.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
    1) Disable the auto complete function. This would prevent people from "syncing up" their story arcs to get more merits than the system is intended to allow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, but no. Definitely not. Auto complete is great. If I have a mission that's too hard for me to do solo, and someone else is doing it in a team, I can join the team and get credit that way.

Now, if you want to say "no merit award when a mission is auto completed" (or when dropped), I can agree with that. But turning off this great feature just to ensure that someone somewhere isn't *OMG* getting more merits than they should get, that's the same sort of paranoia and bad choice that the developers have been doing, that have nerfed Katie to the point where few people want to do this fun TF because now it's all about the reward.

I do like the idea of merits for successful mayhems or safeguards, those are reasonably challenging and fun--and gives a reason for groups doing paper missions to actually keep going.

One thing, I don't see your solution doing, though, is fixing the problem you talk about, the market dying. It just is about getting more merits to avoid the market.

So, here's my suggestion...every time a TF or SF or trial is finished, a random roll recipe is added to the appropriate market. So people finish a Positron, a recipe is added to Wentworths from the 10-14 pool. It's priced at what a vendor would pay for the recipe. Level of the recipe is the top of the TF range.

Dude you are behind! That is like some one saying windows sucks because it runs on top of DOS.

Macs had two buttons for a while. The mouse that comes with macs these days seems like a single piece but has two pressure points that work as left and right clicks. You cans see that here: link

    [ QUOTE ]
    You’ll Really Click

Touch-sensitive technology under Mighty Mouse’s seamless top shell detect where you’re clicking, transforming your sleek, one-button mouse into a two-button wonder. But the innovation doesn’t end there. Apple engineers added force-sensing buttons on either side of Mighty Mouse that let you squeeze the mouse, activating Mac OS X Dashboard, Exposé or a whole host of other, customizable features — instantly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Additionally, any USB mouse will work on a Mac. I've used a Logitech Trackman Wheel on my Macs for years.

Hey cool I can now play this game again now that I am in Mac Land albeit one without Boot Camp (soon Snow Leopard... soon.. I shall skip your un snowy cousin and wait for you.. oh yes..).

Well, once it finishes downloading these bleeding file manifest it is just sitting on..

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um...I think Leopard is a requirement. Check out the requirements at http://www.cityofheroes.com/mac
  7. People have said that it looks pretty good on the new MacBooks. The only thing I'd advise is ensure you've got enough memory, particularly if you plan on having things running while you play. My iMac (it's the first gen Intel iMac) is limited to 2 GB RAM, and I really wish I could go to 4 GB.

    [ QUOTE ]
yes, that is great news, the problem I have just discovered now is that you must have an Intel Mac

    [/ QUOTE ]

And, if you read the specs, you are not supported on the Intel Mac Mini either, which uses the wrong graphics chipset.

This does not preclude Macs from using the Mac Client, only what is "officially" supported.

My Quad-G5 with 10.5 and the NVidia card does run the game, I just can not ask for support.

And, for 50 or so dollars, they can pick up Parallels.

There has been Mac people running the game in all sorts of environments, but now there is a "Mac Native" client.

    Does this help?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hunh??? The way it works, an Intel processor is mandatory. Yes, you can get away with an unsupported graphics processor to some level. But are you really saying you've installed this on a quad-G5 computer and it works?
  9. If you play the game with boot camp, you have to log out of OS X completely. With this new client, you don't have to stop all other programs (though too many could slow down performance). Using windowing mode, tonight I ran the Mac version and periodically saw that I had new mail, quickly checked it, and resumed biffing baddies.

As for why Intel...they didn't actually rewrite the whole client for OS X, instead, they used Transgaming's cider technology to put a wrapper around the windows code to run on a Mac. Many games are brought to the Mac the same way, like Spore.
  10. 2 hours is a bit long. An hour or so probably would be better.

But a power that is usable for every mission...it's just not going to happen.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
New stuff, cool, the recharge time while high doesn't affect us greatly. We seem to be doing fine with the slew of stuff we have now. My wife is really looking forward to the costume pieces.

    [ QUOTE ]
These items will be available as a stand-alone purchase for $9.99 after the two month exclusivity period ends.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not cool, why do we have to wait two months. Could I just buy the mac code to get it now?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. It's actually cheaper. For $20, you get the packs that would cost $10 and a month of game time which would cost $15.
  12. EvilRyu, Beef_Cake, if it had a 30 minute recharge power...would you describe it as "something nice to have" or a "must have". What do you think would be the reaction to a "must have" power for sale?
  13. BTW, here's where I'm particularly looking forward to having this ready.

    (1) In the STF, there's one mission in Peregrine Island that sends you through a portal. Bamph, I'm there.

    (2) Many of the Shadow Shard TFs send you back to Paragon Island for a mission or two, and then back to the shard. The trip back to the Shard is going to be a lot faster.

    (3) As mentioned above, that door that I just freaking can't find. (There's a few of them.)

    (4) Sometimes, I get invited to teams doing portal missions in PI. (Sometimes, I get invited at levels where I could make it across PI in a try or to, but not looking forward to it.)

    (5) Add-hoc Cimerora teleporter. Call Marcus up to get a mission, port to mission door. "Sorry I failed your mission, Marcus"

    It won't be a must-have
  14. [ QUOTE ]
[u]Mission Door TPer Recharge is Too Long[u]

Ouroboros Portal; earnable in-game; level 25 minimum; connecting 5-6 zones; 5 minute recharge, can be shortened by global recharge.

Base Portal; 24 month Veteran Reward; level 3 minimum; theoretically connecting up to 24 zones; 30 minute recharge, can be shortened by global recharge.

Pocket D TPer; GvE purchasable; level 3 minimum; connecting 4-5 zones; 30 minute recharge can be shortened by global recharge.

Summon Teammates; earnable in-game level 20-25 Mayhem/Safeguard; tps teammates in zone to caster; lasts 24 hour in-game time; 5 minute recharge, can be shortened by global recharge.

Assemble the Team; 42 month Veteran Reward; level 1 minimum; TPs teammates in zone to caster; 30 minute recharge which can not be shortened by global recharge.

Mission Teleporter; Mac Edition purchasable; level ? minimum; TP directly to mission door; 120 minute recharge which (can or can not) be shortened by global recharge.

    ====

Clearly this new power is an outlier compared to similar powers. The other purchasable power, the Pocket D TPer can sometimes refresh in less than 15 minutes while this purchasable power, while more useful since it goes to your final destination, instead of a hub, is 120 minutes.

The Base Portal can be a hub to 24 zones and recharge in 15 minutes.

If the Mission Door TPer's recharge is reducible with global recharge, I could possible see letting it stand at 120 minutes, since so many players go for recharge. But it's much more fairer if it were on a 60 minute irreducible timer.

    [/ QUOTE ]

OK, but compare it to how effective it is. I'm in Atlas Park, I have a mission in Brickstown on the far side of the zig from the hospital. (I won't make it one of the underground doors).

Ouroboros portal...go to ouroboros, go to founder's fall, tram to bricks, travel across bricks to mission

Base Portal...zone to base, find bricks teleporter, if you have one go to bricks and travel across bricks to mission. If not, port to IP or Talos (the beacon locations are reasonably close to the tram), tram to bricks, travel across bricks to the mission

Pocket D Teleporter - zone to Pocket D, leave tikibar, make your way across the pocket D to the hero elevator, find the founders falls exit, zone to Bricks, travel across bricks to get to the mission

(Summon Teammates and Assemble the Team and Recall Friend require someone to get to the mission point and not directly comparable.)

In terms of time saving, you only zone once (as opposed to a minimum of two with the others) and no need to travel across the zone. And if you're a stranger in a strange land (a level 20 scrapper sidekicked into a level 40 team), avoiding traveling across the zone can definitely ease the risks).

And that's just going across bricks to an easy-to-find door. Now make it a mission in the Storm Palace, or make it a mission in one of the %@#$# hidden doors that you KNOW is around here somewhere, you've been at this door before and it's supposed to be here so where the ^#$@! is it?

Would I object if it was reduced to an hour? Nope. But those who are thinking it should have the same recharge as a base teleporter are smoking something. There's already complaints about the game becoming dependent on microtransactions, so any "must-have" purchasable power would cause a lot of problems. That's why the self-destruct power doesn't do the same damage as a blaster nova and why the mission teleporter isn't an every-mission or every-other-mission power.

BTW, for your form, the mission door teleporter is only available at level 3 (same reasons as base and pocket D porters) and is not affected by +recharge powers.

    [ QUOTE ]
everything else (hunt, go speak to someone or click on something) - you flicker out and back in where you were, wasting the use of the power

[/ QUOTE ]Actually, I tried this a little bit ago, and it just gives you an error message saying it must be a door mission. No wasted power.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Excellent! They fixed it!
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I just used the mission TP for the first time. I was in cap and used it for a mish in Nerva. It took me to Nerva but right next to the ferry, while my mission is up in the far corner of the map......?Is this working as intented?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are least WERE some caveats in the mission teleporter.

    (1) The mission must be selected (by clicking the "select task") button. If it's just targetted (you've clicked on it, but haven't clicked select task), it doesn't work. If you have no selected mission, it'll go to the mission in the first slot.

    (2) At least as of when it was tested, if you use the power, it goes off and the recharge period time starts. What happens depends on the type of mission.

door mission - you teleport to the door of the mission
completed door mission - you teleport to the door of the now-completed mission
train mission - you teleport into the mission
everything else (hunt, go speak to someone or click on something) - you flicker out and back in where you were, wasting the use of the power

So nope, no using the power to cut short the trip to Wincott.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
CaptA if it was as short as the time of the ouroboros portal you'd never see anyone out on the streets anymore.

So if I want to use the refer a friend feature with a friend that has a mac instead of a pc. Where do they go to download the mac edition client while they are still on the 10 day trial? Is that an option in the plaync control panel now or is it just the original pc edition client download still?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's the same ftp site as the windows client.

    [ QUOTE ]

If true, this is a HUGE step back from what we were told. And rather disappointing.

I don't think you'll be lacking for people who will buy the pack, it's clearly a better bargain than buying just the add-ons, and they're cool add-ons. But does this mean that if someone buys the Mac client, they can't use the PC client?

I hope this is not true. I suspect, if it is, it's how transgaming will get paid for their work (which they've done a good job for), but highly disappointing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just bought it for my PC, my PC works fine. Got the items, etc. No issue with the current client accepting the upgrade code.

I don't know if a NEW client on a PC would be correct. But if you've got a new customer on a PC they should just buy the gve and upgrade later.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A lot (I'm tempted to say most, but at least a lot) of Mac users have a PC and a Mac. If you have multiple PCs, you can buy one copy of the game and install on as many as desired. But if you have a Mac and a PC, do you need to buy two copies?

If that's how it's got to be, I can understand...but it's not what we were told, and it's a definite step back.

[u]Purchase of the MAC Version is necessary if you want to run on a MAC OS[u] but the download is obsolete if you already have the client installed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Really?!

All the talk during beta was that that if you have a game account, you have access to the PC and the Mac clients *without* buying the new Mac Edition.

    Is that now different?

If I don't buy the Mac Edition and get a Mac Computer for MLKjr Day (it could happen), will I be able to download the Mac Client onto the Mac and play, or will I have to first buy the Mac Edition in order to enable the client to play on the Mac?

I'll confirm tomorrow but I believe there is an Authentication process involved on the updater.

    [ QUOTE ]
For a game that has for the life of its existence encouraged alts, the cost of the badges and costume items does not do so. The Winters Gift set should remain expensive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wrong. The winter event is something put in place for fun. Remember that little word, "fun"? If something in this game ceases to be fun for you, stop doing it. If YOU are forcing yourself to do something to fulfill some "need" you have, then whose fault is that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If too many people stop doing things for fun, and stop doing too many things for fun, they may stop paying for fun.

When the developers introduced the Zombie apocalypse, they deliberately set the numbers at a point so that people with many alts could get all the badges. That seemed like a reasonable explanation, perhaps overly generous given that the Zombie apocalypse is spawnable. So why not apply that same reasoning to the badges and such that have a very hard limit of time?

She's giving feedback to the developers of something she found less fun. It may not have reduced your fun, but it affected hers. So she provided it. If the devs weren't interested, they probably wouldn't have started this thread.

    Issue 13: BUGS

    [ QUOTE ]
    Server: Liberty
    Zone: N/A
    Character name: Sgt Pandora
    Time: several times
Location: In SG base, out of SG base
    Mission: none
    Mission Contact: none
Bug Description: Unable to break SG coalition despite being SG leader. The game gives an error stating "not in coalition with that Super Group" which is obviously not true. It is still listed in the Coalition list and on the base portal entry. I have attempted to break this coalition numerous times to no avail. Petiton sent, bug report sent.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Were you using the UI to break it, or were you using the slash command? The UI is a known issue, the workaround is to use the slash command (which escapes me at the moment).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
That's what I said, it never goes below the number (regardless of how many quit).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope. Instead, it's based on how many people haven't quit (logged in or not). So you could do a Statesman's Task Force with things spawned for two. (Good luck soloing or duoing the lieutenants.)

The alternative of rationalizing the minimum necessary to start a TF was rejected.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Totally Subjective: Many here seem to be concerned about the 'difficulty' of getting the ski badges. IMO, and I don't wish to demean or disrespect the folks with their concerns, but there SHOULD be badges and achievements in-game that are more difficult to get. Making every badge, every achievement, every accolade obtainable with little to no effort by every single player on any type of toon demeans the value of having them in the first place. That is not something I want to see.

If we follow through on the logic of badges that can be bought somehow, rather than earned, why not allow my blaster to 'buy' all the healing badges, including empath? Seriously, it would be difficult & time consuming for him to get them, so why not?? Surely, you can see how the above completely devalues the accomplishment of those who earned the badges by actually completing the required tasks.

Heck, let's make the MoSTF badge buyable too while we're at it...

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Skiing badges are only available for a few weeks of the year, and lag and reflexes make a huge difference for those badges, unlike all other badges in the game.

But I have no problem with the gold badge being hard to get, even to the point that not everyone is capable of getting it. Silver should be fairly hard as well. The Bronze badge times should be greatly increased, though.
  24. Here's my best guess...If CoH closes down but NCSoft lives, you'll be given a free account and some free time on another MMO of theirs, but no money back. If NCSoft goes under, nothing. Of course, my real best guess is that even if CoH does get in trouble, it's got another year in it (and probably much longer), so you'll get your full time.

And that's all your going to get, speculation from other users. Why? Because if anyone official from NCSoft or NCNC (yeah, you guys do need a new name) made any reply about "this is what we'd do", all the gamer sites would run a story about "NCSoft talks about shutting down City of Heroes". So if that's not good enough...stay on month by month and don't take advantage of the promotion.
