It's possible I am thinking of NPCs that fight alongside the player as you mention, but I am fairly certain I recall playing where escort NPCs would follow my Hidden stalker.

Hopefully others will chime in on whether I am misremembering or not.
I can't speak for stalkers since I haven't played one for a few years now. Still though, if it was fixed for stalkers hide and not for other toons stealth (which is considerably weaker in comparison) that would seem a little inappropriate to me. I would like to see someone's reasoning if that is the case.

EDIT: Just took a stalker through a "lead" mission and even though I had my hide on, the NPC followed just fine. Might be that specific mission though.

Hellions, Skulls, Council. All of those pretty easy gangs. You do fight some extras like Snakes that can be difficult. And there's Arachnos which you fight more of redside. But Arachnos and Longbow don't really do anything in the low levels so they aren't a problem. And if you get a team going you can start to run +1 and +2.

In Praetoria you have enemies that are chock full of powerful AoEs starting at level 1, and enemies running around with defense, Tactics, and Super Strength. You can't edit the difficulty but I can't imagine doing so on purpose if we had the chance.
OK, so we have three starting zones now with three different levels of difficulty. So why are you complaining? Really, the CoH starting area IS a joke and while CoV is better, it still isn't much of a challenge. People who actually want a challenging start to the game get to go to Praetoria then. Now THAT sounds fare to me and if you actually think about it, you will probably agree. It's also the ONLY starting area that you can not change the difficulty . . . think maybe that was done on purpose? I do.

I think at this point though, I would recommend to the Dev's that in the character creation screen where we are given a choice in what area to start, that an auto-screen pops up to tell us the difficulty levels of the three areas. Or maybe just list it below the Icons for the three areas.

At this point the only really appropriate complaint (IMO) is that the higher level toons can not go to Praetoria yet (though that is complained about more in-game than in the forums). It has already been said in the last on-line Q&A that it will be happening soon so that complaint is moot too.

As for Captain Fabulous's rant . . . something tells me you won't be heading out any time soon. If you do though, good luck in all your future endeavors (I am being sincere here, no joking/sarcasm intended).

    Sir Giles
You can get the old drivers back, but I do not think that is your problem. If it was, the forum would be filled with people complaining that the new NVidia drivers have killed their game instead on just one or two. Still though, do talk to the techs. They can figure it out better by taking over your computer and tooling around with it.

That was fixed? When? I play a demon/dark MM that has never been able to use it's stealth power, and a Widow who can never use her stealth, if I wanted a kidnap victem to follow. By the same token though, NPC's that fought with me have always followed along no matter what power I use.

Any experience would be nice. If it was just one ambush it really would have been too easy, but after the second I was out of endurance and after the fourth I was out of blue inspirations, then came the fifth ambush and geesh. It was fun though, I have to admit that. This scenario repeated two more times for me before I finish the mission too. No experience for all that was just a little disappointing. Maybe give minion experience for defeating the entire group? Anyways, just my opinion.

Thank you for fixing the floating cargo and crane parts, they did look a little strange.

The Shen ambush though may need some more work. Granted every ambushed died easily (too easy for a supposedly equal level ambush) but, none of them granted ANY experience.

Try deleting CoH from your computer and re-installing it. The one time I had this problem re-installing the game fixed it for me.
  9. I have seen a lot of different opinions in this thread and so far it has only lead to one conclusion for me. Some people like to breeze through the first twenty levels to get to the better powers and such. Others (like me) like a challenge the whole way through, in other words, they enjoy building their toons up. These types of people seem to like the challenge of Praetoria.

BTW, Zamuel, I personally think your argument hits the nail squarely on the head here.

At this point it is probably best if we agree to disagree and see what the Dev's do. They certainly have enough feedback to make a decision. Unfortunately, I am absolutely certain that the people on this thread will not be able to do that.

I find soloing in Praetoria to be the easiest yes. What I was saying though was that small teams do better than large ones in my opinion. Every time I have been on a large team, the deaths went up considerably. Could be just my own experience though.
  11. I was having a problem logging in earlier too. I can get on now after they got the stability patch done today. It may not have been the problem, but like I said, it's working for me now.

I can only speak for myself but if I 'died plenty' in the lowbie experience of an MMO, I'd probably quit, not because I want 'easy mode' but because I expect the lowest levels of the game, when you're learning how to play, to be gentler than the later levels, where you should have the knowledge and experience to handle tougher foes.
I died plenty when I first started playing and I took it as a challenge to learn and "play better". Unfortunately I was trying to solo a dark/empath defender and it didn't go easy. Of the six people that I have talked into joining this game, all of them died A LOT in the first few levels. One of them told me that it was because this MMO it was so different from most other ones they have played. They all had a blast though and took it as a challenge as well.

I think I know the type of person you are talking about though. It's the ones that play for six months or so and then leave. The few like that I have talked too couldn't handle not being in Uber Teams of 20+.

I will say this though, Praetoria does seem to work better with smaller teams (2 or 3) than larger ones.

I could be wrong Purge, but I don't think we will ever see a Power Set Respec option. I can remember a few months back reading a red name post that basically said they would never entertain such a thing. But then again, the market merge was never going to happen either so who know. Btw, my "Search Fu" sucks, but if I can find the post again, I'll edit this post and set up a link to it.
  14. Anyone with NVidia graphics cards may want to check to see if there is an update. I have a new card (260) and just downloaded an update for it. Game looks great for me since doing so.

First, let me lead off by saying that I NEVER said other peoples experiences in Praetoria are irrelevant. I find your attempting to put words in my mouth VERY insulting. Please do not do it again. I did say that until a certain poster verifies his experiences in the live version, instead of basically saying "It was like that in beta and I just know it will be the same in the live version", I would not consider their point since it lacked credibility. Plain and simple I wish I could tell the future as good as that person does, I'd go buy some lottery tickets right now.

Second, I am sorry you assumed that I had only used one toon in Praetoria. I never said that either. I simply talked about the one toon I felt was weakest AND I am having the hardest time with, yet still making it through the new content. As for my experiences I have found the scrapper/stalker to have the easiest times (though a stalkers inability to get back into "hide" with the rapid ambushes did make things harder), the blaster was the middle of the road, and the controller is having the hardest time. My defender so far has not been played enough to truly test this out though.

As for your experiences, how many of those toons were on the live version and how many on beta. My experiences have ALL been on the live version since I refused to join beta a few months back when I was invited. I didn't want to taint the experience of the "Real" game with bad experiences from beta. I have a feeling that a lot of people are doing just that, though I will admit I can't prove it.

Third, your basic statements on the relative strengths of the different enemies I can mostly agree with. I would make a couple minor changes, but nothing worth debating. I'm just not sure if I would consider them over-powered.

Fourth, Vet attack powers are nice and all, but completely unreliable in my opinion after about level 5. The only toon I have used them very much on is the Controller and I am still having damage issues with that toon which slows things considerably. My other toons just didn't need the extra fire-power to be honest.

Lastly, I will repeat something I said earlier with a small addition - "Overall though, I am not sure how much overpowered the enemies in Praetoria are. I really think the Dev's came up with a different "style" of playing than we are used too and this has proven difficult for some to adapt too (including me)."

Wow, a bunch was said there and if I had ANY experience with a controller (or a dominator), you might be right. Unfortunately, I don't and have almost no idea what you are talking about with "pulse sleep" and such. As for pulls . . . controllers have proven extremely inept at that (well, mine has anyways). Now for the attack chains, yes I am learning them and at level 18 they are just starting to be effective.

The Vet powers are good, yes and my endurance buffing pet has sped things up a little (i think). The Vet attack powers have proven helpful . . . when they hit, which seems to be about half the time or less, but that may just be my perception. Being able to fly at level 6 has proven to be the best bonus of being a long term Vet but, only because I could get to missions faster.

As for credibility, my scrapper, stalker, and blaster have done pretty good. The stalker did the best as a matter of fact, though not being able to get into hide during rapid ambushes proved to make things interesting. I am personally finding the controller to be having the hardest time. I have started a DP/rad defender too, but not played it much yet. AND my argument still stands, when they have the same problem on live as they did on beta, then get back with me.

Btw Dispari, you are one of the better people to debate with in these forums, but my last post was NOT sent to you. It was very obviously directed at one specific person (as opposed to the other posts in this thread that are just as obviously open arguments). Thanks for butting in though and letting me further go into my experience so far. Sorry for the lack of better detail, but I am tired now and have grown bored of this argument.

Overall though, I am not sure how much overpowered the enemies in Praetoria are. I really think the Devs came up with a different "style" of playing than we are used too and this has proven difficult for some to adapt too. Even so, I still do not like the Blast Masters nor the Pyrokineticists. But then again, that IS what is making them so fun to kill.

Now, granted this was while we were still in Beta, but that mission's going to be just as hard with a full team on live simply because of the Burn spam from the BM's. You're getting knocked off your feet every few seconds from one of their M-80's, or you're getting firebombed, both while trying to get your team to ignore the boss and kill the minions first and they aren't listening because they THINK they know better after six years of playing...

Now, word's gotten around a bit to 'kill any and all Blast Masters ASAP' but they're still a minion-level major pain in the ***.
Your argument will warrant some credibility when you have the same situation on live as you did on beta. I won't argue with anyone that knows "that mission's going to be just as hard with a full team on live simply because of the Burn spam from the BM's", yet has not even tried to replicate it. So please post back when you do and tell us how YOU did. Thanks.

I will agree with you though. Those Blast Masters SUCK!!!! That's probably why I like fighting them.

I like a good challenge. But some of the enemies in Praetoria are not just a "good challenge," they're downright brutal. What I personally do not find fun is having to approach every single spawn like it's the end boss of the mission. That gets tedious after a while. I want my characters to occasionally feel moderately strong, y'know?

Again, you are confusing people getting frustrated with people wanting easy mode. I doubt anyone posting in this thread wants the game to be a snooze fest. You speak of strategy, but for some AT's certain GR enemies are basically a case of "kill as much as you can, die, come back, repeat". I'm sorry, but that kind of strategy isn't fun.
I think I fall somewhere's in between you and EvilGeko, but I probably favor his argument slightly. My reason is simple. I have managed to get through the GR content in Praetoria on a controller. Decided to try out a Electric Control/Storm Controller and see where it would go. I knew in advance that the "control" aspect would help, but to be honest, the lack of damage has been a major hindrance and couple that with a high end burn. That makes things darn hard. Especially when it comes to multiple ambushes. Still though, I have only found it "too difficult" on two occasions (my definition being I have to visit the hospital 3 times or more in a single mission). This leads me to believe that both of you have gone to extremes in your arguments and I would ask you to both dial it down.

I will say though, that in my experience with the teams I have played on, most times people die once or twice and start complaining the mission/SF/TF was designed to be too hard. Very seldom do people want to take into account the "Luck" factor. My definition of this is when the dice is rolled, the numbers are crunched, and you lose instead of the enemies. I have also noticed that people definition of "I want my characters to occasionally feel moderately strong, y'know?" to be very different. Was Superman a Superhero because he could beat up common street thugs or was he Super because he could take on enemies as powerful or more so than himself and still win?

To finish this off, I'll go back to an earlier statement though, both of you have decided to take your arguments to the extremes and it might be time for you to both dial it back some.

Whether you call it the Underground or the Sewers, it's the same thing and my reasoning still stands, if you count the underground that makes it six zones, not four (since each of the above ground zones have their own "Underground"). Personally I love GR but, I will say this, if Paragon Studios is counting the Underground as a zone unto itself, then for the first time I will cry "boo" on this "expansion".

Actually Madadh, your problem of not being able to use your pre-purchased slots and the previous posters problem of not being able to buy GR is different, though they do come from the same source. I implied no great "Karmic" events for the previous poster, she couldn't buy the game for her husband because she waited till the last minute and the store was down. Her only choice was to wait and People like her I have no pity for.
People like you I felt sorry for since you were thinking ahead and the store going down stopped you from playing GR (unavailable slots and all). While your solution was the same as hers and the reason for needing the solution was the same (store being down), the situation requiring the solution was not (You were thinking ahead and her husband was not).
In short, I do not feel sorry for people who wait till the last minute, I do feel sorry for people that get messed with due to no fault of their own.
  21. Hey y'all, I can't find it right now (too tired to keep looking) AND it is not listed in these patch notes, but wasn't there supposed to be 4 new zones? As far as I can see there is only three Nova Praetoria, Imperial City, and Nuetropolis. I am not counting the sewers to make a fourth "zone" since they are a natural extension of the cities themselves. If I did though, they would actually make for six zones since each city has it's own sewer network just like Paragon City. I think my logic is pretty sound here. So where is the fourth zone? Anyone?
  22. I'm sorry to hear so many people having problems with GameStop. My personal experience was great. I got a robocall the day prior to release saying my game would be in the store on the release day and showed up when the store opened. Got my game (codes and all) and went home a happy camper. I credit a good manager in my case though, the guy is always on the ball.

I would suggest one thing to people who ordered through a store and got shafted for it. Send a complaint up to the corporate level via e-mail. Make sure you include the location of the store and the store number if you can get it. Scan your receipt and use it as back-up. If you ordered on-line, I would suggest the same thing an use your confirmation e-mails as back-up.

I would also suggest sending a complaint into NC Soft as well since they would probably like to know for future reference.

    So, no. I was prepared...
Any way you put it, you are trying to buy the product last minute. In this case it is you husbands fault and not yours, but that doesn't change the overall fact that you just need to be patient and wait for the store to come back on-line. Unless I miss my guess they are working that issue right now in order to make more money. I know I would if I was in their place.

Btw Perfect Pain, I love your avatar. I used to have a dog just like that as a kids.
  24. Well as far as quality goes, I think this on-line Q&A fell somewhere in the middle of the last two. Not as bad as the first one they did, but not as good as the second either. Overall, worth the read I think. Especially for the hints and the idea of re-looking at the way SG's will work.
  25. The on-line store has been going on and off all day. I chalk it up to all the people that waited until the last second to buy GR or more character slots to accommodate GR. So, since you are one of those people Perfect Pain, I would suggest being patient. It will come back up soon.
