    Tough Love

    Gratz!

Haha I had some tough love in mind for these 2 as well but it doesn't look like that.
  2. You're not going to draw a significant number of players here through a mentorship program. Not trying to be mean but that's an unrealistic expectation. The very clear trend is for people to move from the smaller servers to the more populated ones.

I play almost exclusively on redside, but I'm not an RPer.

edit: btw, if you want to do this, there is no reason not to do it. Best of luck with it. My 2 cents in this discussion is that it's somewhat ill-conceived for the reasons I laid out in my initial post. YMMV

Though I actually completely disagree with Frozen. Whenever I see a new person on a team asking questions, almost everyone bails. All most players want is to get their xps and their paper. They don't have the patience to "deal with" newbies. I'll see a team of eight dwindle down to me, the guy asking questions, and possibly one other person in half an hour's time (while we're still running missions).
Well your anecdotal experience is different from mine, although certainly many people aren't interested in answering a lot of questions because they logged on to play the game and they may not want to spend that time providing info that is readily available elsewhere.

    Quote:
The "gamerz" will still go to Freedom and thats fine. I want the players who want to experience the game.
Freedom has a much larger population than Protector, to the extent that there are probably more people there straight up "experiencing the game" there than here. Moreover, I haven't run across a player based mentor program on any other server. And I don't think it has to do with the players on those servers being less friendly or willing to help than here.

    This.

    You've answered your own question.
No, the point was that I am not a mentor with any particular organization. The quickest and probably most effective way to get information in the game is merely to ask another player. Ask the people on your team. That's probably how most people learn the basics.

The fact that I frequently get questions doesn't mean that people are having trouble accessing guides, etc. online. It just means they have no trouble doing the obvious thing--asking someone who seems to know what their doing. The majority of the population of the server knows how to play the game and they will generally answer questions independently of whether they consider themselves a mentor or not.
  5. What good are you doing by this whole initiative?

If I'm understanding this correctly, the assumption is that mentors are going to help "proselytes" by sharing their knowledge and/or acting as guides in the game when its convenient for them.

On one hand the entire thing strikes me as completely redundant given that there are many avenues to ask for information and a wealth of information on the forums that covers pretty much everything. I frequently get questions from complete strangers asking about my builds or how to do things. Also I think that pretty much everyone who considers themself to be a vet learned the game the traditional way: play it, try things out, ask questions, and make friends.

Stalemate's comments above suggests that a primary concern is neophyte's who are too timid to do so. How numerous are these people? Is it enough to justify this growing bureaucracy? Why not just a thread describing individuals and sgs/vgs interested in helping less experienced players?

Another thing to note is that this is entertainment. As such, the question of right or wrong hinges on the player's enjoyment. If they are having fun, the game is a success, whether or not they are fulfilling the potential of a certain AT. When I look back on the game, the funnest times where when I was new at something. I didn't know what to expect or what was the best way to solve a problem. I tried different things and sometimes came up with funky solutions that worked for me but maybe weren't standard for other people. Pvp was a blast when nobody knew what they were doing, because you could get away with so many tactics. No longer.

Eventually, if you stay with it you learn the game and how things work. And you get an idea of what the optimal solutions are for different problems. Then standard gameplay starts to become dull. And, despite the antipathy to farming, everyone is farming. The whole game becomes a farm--repetetive tasks to achieve certain goals. Only some farms are based on efficiency and some aren't.

You don't want to shortchange that period of blissful ignorance. Once you learn how to play things "well" you can't really go back to thinking you're a god wiping out badguys with your all powerful jump kick.

You think? I'd consider Queen Witch, Pyro Nympho, Demon Trix and probably Agent Collins way more explicit...
Lol, no I don't think. That was sarcasm. Was just trying to create dramatic tension.

Wow! Hah, love the symbolism on it. Great!
That's a relief! I think its hilarious but you never know how people are going to respond to portrayals of their character.

edit: And what's up with that guy who wants to know if she's a mom?!?! LOL

Just uploaded the Vivace sketch. It's probably the most explicit of the bunch. You were warned!

Glad you like it! I actually talked about the development of the composition during my first livestream broadcast. It's still in the indemand section if your interested in checking it out.

If you do another one of these I'm sooo there J.
Hehe I think it's time for someone else to take a turn *cough*Foo*cough. But I was thinking that when the initial batch of sketches are done, I might make broadcasts of when I'm polishing/coloring some of them.

Crap I just noticed I wrote 10:45 in my earlier post. I actually started at 10:15, which is when I'm going to get on tonight. There were some technical difficulties last time, so it wasn't that big a deal I guess but tonight will get going at 10:15.

Well there were some technical difficulties with that stream and I think I had some trouble getting the point across at times, but the thursday talk will be hopefully more specific. In this one I talked a bit about my process working on a sketch for the book and some stuff about rendering materials via specularity and some stuff about using adjustment layers at the end.

OK, I seem to have he sound issue resolved. So I was thinking of doing a practice run TONIGHT from 10:45-12:00pm. Then I will do it again Thursday night at the same time. And if anyone watches tonight (or views the indemand recording) and has questions they can post them here and I'll try to answer them on Thursday.

    The channel is www.livestream.com/bwbabble
I'm basically going to be talking about how I draw and render in photoshop. Today I'm working on one of the teaser sketches for the book and there is nudity, so If you are offended by that sort of thing tonight is not a good night to tune in.

Still can't get the audio to record. I can record my screen with the procaster but can't seem to get any sound.

    Hey guys,

In the wake of Eddy's presentations, I thought I'd give the livestream thing a try. At the moment, I'm having trouble getting any audio in the clips, but as soon as the technical issues are hammered out, I thought I'd do a general talk about how I work in photoshop.

I did some sample linework to color, and did a run through last night as a warm up. I'll keep you guys posted--when I get the sound working I'll probably try to do a stream on a weeknight between 10pm-12pm Est. Here's how the practice run turned out:

Here is the rough sketch for Polarzen's character Hitdoll. There are comments about the piece on my deviantpage.

Chloe is actually holding a red-hot poker. Like something you'd use to stir coals in the fireplace. I wanted something that would suggest visually that the dissident witches were facing strong pressure to comply. The glowing tip will probably be one of the primary light sources in the scene.

    Quote:
Will there be someway, when it's in color or further along, to plainly tell that is Mary?
Chloe's green skin and unusual face will set her apart redily enough but how to tell that is her younger sister?
Something in their outfits that is similar compared to the other (possible) figures/witches to come?
They could both have red hair and the others have brown or something along that line... your thoughts on this J?
Well it's a difficult thing to suggest the relationship between them because Chloe looks somewhat inhuman. Also I couldn't find a viable way of cheating Mary's face out towards the viewer anyway. There is another piece I have planned that is a large triptych that has smaller scenes set in a border around the outside. Might end up doing something similar here.
