    Couldn't agree more.

I was very critical of Going Rogue and Praetoria itself during closed and open beta of GR. In my mind it felt rushed and incomplete and the level 20 transport to red or blueside was the ultimate rope toss trying to anchor the game to some kind of story. My feelings on this ran so deep that I didn't buy Going Rogue until Cyber Monday, when I managed to get it for only 10 bucks.

A year later, it still feels incomplete. In that year's time, I've gotten 3 alts to level 50 and none of them have used Praetoria as a launching pad. The story arcs I have done on other alts felt inconsequential and unfinished. And, just like I predicted, when my Praetorian hit 20, transporting to Redside felt like a bad ending to a half finished story.

It never hurts when a creative person stops, takes stock of what they did or didn't do, and issues an apology or some kind of explanation for what went wrong. Joss Whedon just issued an apology for the Buffy Season 8 comics since they lost sight of what Buffy was supposed to be and became a weird superhero comic. With the news of Freedom and the content we've gotten for incarnates since GR was released, I can see the reason why Praetoria felt rushed and incomplete: because it was. Resources were obviously diverted mid-project to other things and NC Soft still demanded a new box on the shelves so we got what we got.

If a redname posted tomorrow that this was the case and that's why Going Rogue failed to live up to my expectations or others, I would accept it and continue to support them throughout Freedom. Hell, I'm going to do so either way, since they have made good with content for red and blue side since GR hit.
  2. Lothic, I'd stand firmly behind any of your post if the design and dev team (or even just the community reps) for this game have remained static for years. They haven't. Between leaving Cryptic, forming Paragon Studios, Recluse and others leaving after CoV coming out, other great devs unfortunately being let go/resigning, we've had a bit of a revolving door.

The only static members who have maintained any kind of forum presence, at least off the top of my head here, are Noble Savage, Positron, and WarWitch at times. And I think Posi and WW had a lot on their plate, so them not remember every suggestion made on these forums, no matter how great or how important any one of us thinks it was, would make sense. And Noble isn't part of the dev teams that would be used to do these things.

So that's why there is no Dev Hive Mind and also why we keep seeing comments like that pop up from rednames.
  3. My suggestion shall always be: You unlock it for defeating the last person who defeated you in PvP.

You are disrupting their killstreak. Therefor you are a disruptor.

I can definitely see this. I'd rather see them add new contacts or SFs that use the space they already have. The redside zones have so many nooks and crannies that are never really used outside of one mission here or there, like the Crey HQ or the Sky Raiders water base. I'd love to see more content added that expanded these little sub-zones in the bigger zones.

You said it, now you can't unsay it!

Let me also add: mayhem missions are a heck of a lot easier than safeguards in terms of racking up XP and additional time.

I do wish there would be more villain side SFs, as this was a complaint from me way back when CoV was still in beta and I was PMing Lord Recluse about them back and forth on a daily basis. I really do get the feeling that they had more planned, but when the original design changed (from choosing to join a fraction to only joining Arachnos) they kind of scrapped a lot of content.
  6. The weird problem Freedom will have is the first 10 levels of so will feel ultra-villainous and then you are back to feeling like just a lackey for Arachnos doing the same kind of missions you would have blueside except in dirtier warehouses.

As for contacts/rewards, I think redside actually wins out over blueside in most regards. Story arcs redside tend to be short, to the point, and always end with something significant (a custom map, an EB/AV/Hero battle, etc). Blueside, if you are attempting any story arc outside of Faultline or Croatoa, you are most likely going to be stuck in a seemingless endless chain of office maps searching for bombs to defuse.

Faultline and the new story arcs that they have added since the birth of CoV have helped break that up for blueside, but redside have gotten equivalent arcs themselves.

And since most story arcs are shorter and most contacts give you more than 1, that means more end of arc XP and rewards then blueside. Blueside may have better reward merit tables, but that's to offset the amount of time it takes to do said arcs. In the Isles, all missions tend to be either close by the contact or they send you to the Thorn Tree Island. You get the missions quicker, you get to the missions quicker, and you complete the missions faster for faster arc reward bonuses.
  7. Compared to heroside equivalents, the villain SFs are way less tedious and sometimes shorter than the heroside.

Compare Virgil's SF to the original Positron or Synapse. There have been times on a Synapse that I've actively thought about quitting the game right there and leaving my friends in the lurch. Virgil is 6 relatively easy missions, some of them ghostable.

With Strike Targets, groups of players on most servers seem to have their gameplans down for how to ghost/rush a TF to the fullest. I know I was leading teams where we were doing half hour Manticores. But compare that to the flipside: during the respec trial ST weeks, people were pulling down 13 minute treespecs compared to heroes left running around circles for an hour in the Reactor for their Trial to end.
  8. It's hard to say what causes more server load. I'd assume things like the banners appearing, zombie-pocalypse, and Rikti Invasions are pretty well tolerated by the servers since they happen so frequently.

The invasion that happened yesterday on Pinnacle in Atlas Park, with countless WarWalkers and 10+ copies of Anti-Matter or Nightstar running around over a prolonged amount of time might actually make the server start to heat up, because that event was 100% GM/Dev/Rep initiated and out of the norm.
  9. I think I'm going to get off my past community rep soapbox. Obviously what happened during the course of this game has led to us having the dev and community teams we have now, which are pretty damn good at their job.

Now, let's celebrate the coming of full circle by figuring out a way to make the Disruptor badge easier to get.

Perhaps it hasn't been so evident since 95% of my posts since returning have been "Make the Disruptor badge easier to get."
  11. If the community reps and devs are still reading my suggestions and thinking of adding them to the game...

Things like the weekly ustream and participation on the boards are what made me make the comment. The team as a whole seems more connected now than in the past. This could be because there is more of them, and that NCsoft actually cares about the game, where as Cryptic just shoved it to the side. No disservice was meant towards Cuppa, but I will admit I like Zwill better.
Yeah, I realize we're combining apples to oranges here, but I can see your point. But I also know that there wasn't a thing like ustream as popular back then for Cuppa to be on at the drop of a hat when the servers are down. It's great that Zwill and staff does this and we have a site that makes it easy to do so.

Cuppa, for as much as she was restricted by the dev team she was community repping at the time, at least did a lot of side things like guest on w00t Radio on her own time to help promote the game and answer players questions.

But yeah, there's really no loser here in this debate. This game has had a history of great community reps... with the exception of one... the one with the banhammer... *cough*

I think this is a disservice to CuppaJo. Remember: she was working under a different regime that seemed to go out of its way to ignore the fans. But she made the most of it and passed on as many of our ideas as possible. I know a few of the ideas I had are still here to this day.

And I'm not just saying this because her move to another game and the debut of Lighthouse led to my instant banning... Okay, partially...

And the heel is funny, given some of the hubub in the comments regarding barbarian costumes.
That's concept art for the CoT costume set for players/original CoT make over before they updated it to the more respectable version that's on Beta now that looks amazing.
  17. City of Heroes: Gotta Pay For It All version ending with a Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls. invasion?

Yes, that would be amazingly awesome.

You joke, but I think, at least on Beta, they need to do this at least once for a few hours. There are bound to be instances where a Lady Grey TF spawns Rikti during a Halloween event or a banner event or the Winter event and we don't know how things like the new Atlas and Mercy will be affected by that.

And yes, I half made this thread as a joke/half as a request for the devs to do something to shake things up in the final stretch before CLASSIC ROCK CHANGES FOREVER AS WE KNOW IT. I know a lot of my friends (myself included) haven't been in the game essentially since open beta started since it's kind of hard to go back to issue 20.

The servers are borked enough as-is without spamming zone events. Don't pile more blocks on a Jenga tower that's already on the verge of collapse.

  22. But, in the grand scheme of annoying Golden Girl posts, this was the most benign possible. She replied to your disgust at forced teaming with factual information that most of us already knew (that the Holiday Trial tab in the LFG tab meant we'll be getting Holiday trials). And you snapped back and essentially tell her that people hate her for posting like that. Just because you are open about not teaming doesn't mean Golden Girl can read your mind and realize you are keeping yourself willfully ignorant of what future prospects are coming in the game in regards to teaming.

Sometimes responding to GG that way is right. I don't agree that this was one of those times.

If the very thought of someone thinking you might have dared looked at the LFG tab really elicits that much anger in you, I must recommend you check out some kind of anger management. I would recommend a support group, but I know you don't like forced teams.

Yes, I get that you like to solo, and I even posted a quick work around for you to attempt to solo this trial right after her post before you forum-ically bit her head off. With Freedom coming, you don't even need 3 other people, just the ability to run 3 free accounts for a minute or two.

Yes, please continue endearing the solo community to the rest of the player base with your winning attitude.

Also, you are making me defend Golden Girl here. Please consider in your mind how wrong you are in that I'm forced to do this.

    The Determinator

Back in issue 5 I attempted to make a scrapper alt with a "pure" super speedster build. I followed pretty much the same rules as your challenge: I could only use power pool attacks (and, since this was before veteran rewards, I think I allowed myself to use the first attack from Martial Arts).

I made it to the Hollows and could not get him any further. Then I deleted and rerolled him as a rad/thermal corruptor when CoV hit.

Plus, since you only need 4, there is the possibility you can do a closed trial, turn off people joining you mid-trial, and just have the 3 other people who were padding to have you start it quit once you zone in and attempt to solo it.

I can't say this if this is possible or not, but it's way more likely a 4 person trial is as compared to an incarnate one. The new low level sewer trial could be solo'd if you are really persistent and don't mind running back from the hospital porter in-mission.

(Disclaimer: if trials log you out when everyone but the leader quits, please disregard this. I've never been inside a trial when this occurred so I don't know)
