    I was thinking the same thing as you, but I notice that tanks get Gauntlet which gives all their attacks an inherent (AoE?) taunt. I know Brutes get inherent taunt in their attacks, too - but is gauntlet's a higher mag? Or is it an AoE inherent taunt on a tanker, but a Single Target inherent taunt on a brute?

    From the little time I've spent playing tanks and brutes (I normally play all the other AT's lol...) it seems like it takes less effort to hold large groups attention on a tanker than a brute, and this is even without having picked up Taunt on either AT.

  3. Hello everyone,

    I'm currently unsure of whether fire/fire would suit me well as a brute or a tank. I am looking to play a char that can hold the attention of my enemies, and do a fair amount of damage in return. Normally, I'd say the Brute would fit my choices better because Brutes are probably capable of doing more damage than a tanker - and they can hold the attention of enemies fairly well in the process.

    I know that Fire Melee for tanks comes with Combustion, which is not available for Brutes. I'm not quite sure if that alone will make a fire/fire tanker perform better than a fire/fire brute in terms of damage output and survivability tradeoff.

    For example: I know that as a rad/sonic defender, there's better damage output and survivability than a sonic/rad corruptor due to the values of the debuffs from the defender versions of sonic attacks than the corruptors.

    Is a fire/fire tanker going to be a better damage dealer than a fire/fire brute because of Combustion?
  4. Thank you Hindenberg, I really like the defense that comes from your version of the build. I'm wondering though, will my endurance usage become a problem? I'm okay with carrying inspirations as needed. I figured I'd have to stock on up greens since I wont have any self healing - carrying greens and blues I guess would be okay if needed. I am pretty sure cardiac would be a good alpha for this char to help minimize end costs since there's hardly any end reduction I'll have slotted in any of my powers.

  6. I have a +3 Tier 4 incarnated nec/poi mm that I like. Sure, he's not going to be AE Debuff king, but when fighting A/V's it's nice to have the (however minor) debuff effects land on them to help things die a little faster/mitigate a little more of their attacks. I don't have the build on hand, but when I get home I'll post the build I'm using.

    He doesn't have capped defense, but is like 15% away or so from resist cap. I find the MM I have to be most useful clearing terminals in Keyes or charging into the occasional spawns that litter BAF. When fighting A/V's, concentrating all your pets on the A/V is a pretty good thing. All the -to hit debuffs from your pets, the -res procs from reactive interface and from achilles on the undead knights, the -res and -def from envenom, as well as slotting damage procs into envenom, weaken, soul tentacles, poison gas trap, undead knights, lich, the single target hold... he's no slouch. Sure, he wont output Blaster or scrapper damage - but if that's what you want then you'll have an easier time doing that as a blaster or scrapper and not an MM.

    What I find helps the pets survival is to throw out a taunt while your pets are in bodyguard mode. Your single target heal should be enough to mitigate the damage your pets receive as long as you're not letting them tank solely for you. Bodyguard mode lowers the amount of healing you have to do for your pets, and life drain should be enough to keep you alive if you're taunting bosses in bodyguard mode.
  7. Awesome, Snowzone! I hope this build helps you a bit. The damage is probably a little lower than some would like, but it's got 33.8(?) smashing and lethal defense with frozen armor on. That should help with melee survival, I'd imagine.

    I had such a blast with Kioshi's ice/psi dom that I decided to make a new dom, but this time using an even more obscure combination: Gravity Control/Earthen Assault

    Here is the build I put together. It's definitely permadom by around level 38 or so... maybe earlier, I forget. However, is it also permahastened too? Mids shows it as having a 118.7s recharge, and lasts for 120s. I'm confused because I've read elsewhere that there's a total of 275% Global recharge required (after hasten's own +70 %, so 205% without hasten on) and I know I don't have that much according to the totals listed by mids.

  9. Hi Everyone,

    I just recently slotted an ice/psi dom and am REALLY enjoying it now that it's at permadom status. I've been reading other dom threads and am now curious about a grav/psi dom, since it sounds very melee centric and different than the way I play my current ice/psi.

    So what I'm hoping to do is make it a build I can level with - I don't mind using SO's till around 38, but since I'm now under the assumption that 38 is a fairly safe level to start permadomming, I am guessing 38 is probably a decent level to start using I/O sets in general.

    So here's what I'm hoping someone can help me put together:

    I am looking to soft cap my defenses (or resists... still not sure which would help me more) at around level 38 with grav/earth. I plan on spending a lot of time in melee, and from playing my ice/psi I can already see that there are certain enemies I want to try to avoid melee range with (nemesis warhulks, freakshow stunner freaks)

    Would it be feasible to have a grav/earth dom that has capped def or res by level 38? And then still be able to at least get permadom by 50? is it possible to have both by 38? (I doubt that, but just in case, I thought I'd ask...) If I had to choose between permadom and soft cap of def/res by 38 I think I'm going to go with the res/def.

    Aside from this, I also am hoping the char will still be effective fighting +2-+4 enemies in groups, and do fairly respectable melee damage while doing so.

    Any help with creating such a build will be very greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for your additional suggestion I am always grateful to see more options for an ice/psi permadom starting at level 38.

    What I've been doing to get LotG's for my chars that use them is run tip missions, and saving the hero merits. 2 hero merits will give you 1 lotg recharge if you spend it at Fort Cerberus? Trident? I forget the name, it's in atlas park.

    As long as they're level 22 or higher, they'll be able to get a level 25 LoTG. If they're higher than 25, I can set the level of the recipe I want by using the slider in the menu that appears when purchasing recipes with merits. This is also an option available to Villains.

    Additionally, one can also get hero/villain merits by doing the Signature Story Arcs. Each week you do them you're eligible for 1 hero/villain merit reward. Soloing them takes about 15 minutes each. So 2 arcs per week is about 2 merits, per character. Getting the LotG's has been the easiest part for me lol... it's the sets that can be sometimes time consuming.
  11. Thank you all for your build suggestions and advice. Kioshi seems to have a build that would probably fit my playstyle - I'm trying to make this dominator a little more melee oriented than ranged, so I probably could drop shiver and use it for something else, maybe...

    So from what I'm comprehending - bas gaze, dec, and ent chaos would be best to get at max level whereas the others I'm thinking of using can get to 35 and still be effective when exemping for posi runs? Alright, that sounds fair. I will try to re-do a build with this knowledge and see if I can get permadom now at 38, or if it's something I should be waiting to do at 50.

    I'm kinda new with the IO set building thing, but I have put together an Ice/Psy build that I am hoping will be A) Permadom and B) effective Crowd Control and Damage Dealer when fighting +2/+3 (maybe even +4) in groups. Right now he's level 38, and I'm attempting to put together an acceptable build to use until level 50 where I can then fill in more recharge if needed and/or more defense or damage, depending on how I feel the character is performing. I'd also like it to be C) effective if exemping down for TF's.

    Does this build look like it'll suit my purposes?

    My fear is that I have too many +7.5% recharge enhancements and that might cause issues, but I am not 100% sure...
