Quote:Your right, but it's just as fair to say that the effort you put into participating in the community gets paid back a hundred fold. This is true. But CoH did used to as close as you'd get to it in fairness. It was one of the chief reasons I hated WoW. There was just none of the "Log on, get random PuG, play for 2 hours with people coming and going" you can get with CoH.
I think that would be great for this game myself. Even if they told the EU players that the EU servers were being shut down and they would have to transfer their characters to their pick of the NA servers, it wouldn't be a "merger" because they would be going from 4 servers to 11 servers.Quote:That said I don't want to merge the servers. I just want to stick em all on one list, so if my Red Side Unionite is having trouble getting a PuG I can switch to Virtue to some alt and try my luck there instead.
Some of my favorite pug experiences were when I found myself on teams with mixed nationalities. -
Quote:Not only that but the "Merge the servers" crowd also always feel they shouldn't have to do more than throw up their LFT flag and invites should fly in. Like the universe revolves around their concieted little arses and players should be fighting for the chance to team with them.I do find it funny that most of the time I see these requests to merge the servers, it's coming from a member of the Freedom server, which is the most populated server. I think I'd take them more seriously if the people on the lower-populated servers made more of a fuss about it than the people on Virtue or Freedom.
Those people need to get over their sense of entitlement and realize they ain't the unique snowflake they built themselves up to be in their imaginations. There isn't an MMO out there that guaruntees you a team whenever you log on to play. -
Quote:No problem. A little more trivia for ya. The pic I provided is from an old film called "Ilsa: She Wolf of the S.S." A bizarre cult classic in some circles. Now here's the trivia part. The film was shot on the set of "Hogan's Heroes" after the show was cancelled. Some excellent points raised in this thread so far.
I agree that some of the groups could do with more story, and at the same time some revamped mobs.
Thanks for throwing in the historical reference there Forbin. I didn't actually know that they had had females in their ranks.

[quote=Twisted Toon;2286315]Quote:Bizarre rep comments remind me of something Lewis Black said.
It was positive. I was just tossing out some odd comments that really didn't make much sense...unless the person who wrote it was taken into account. And in some cases, even then it didn't make much sense.
If It Weren't For My Horse
by Lewis Black
So I finished the meal, and I was drinking the boisenberry. Well, because I had to take the edge off the coffee. When from behind me, a young woman of 25 uttered the following—--it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard in my life until Dan Quayle was elected the Vice President of the United States. She said, if it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college. I'm gonna repeat that because it bears repeating. If it weren't for my horse, as in, giddyap giddyap, let's go, I wouldn't have spent that year in college, which is a degree-granting institution.
Don't—don't think about that sentence for more than three minutes or blood will shoot out your nose.
The American medical profession does not know why we get an aneurysm. An aneurysm is when a blood vessel bursts in your head for no apparent reason. There is a reason. You go to the mall one day with your friends. Somebody over there says the dumbest thing you've ever heard. And it goes in your ear. Now, you turn around to see if your friends heard it. But your friends are over there, and they're pretending that they're going to buy a cellular phone. And they're not going to buy a celluar phone, because these idiots don't understand what the rate structure means. So you turn back to see who said it, 'cause if you could talk to them just ask them, like, you know, what did you mean by that? But they're gone. And now those words are in your head.
And they stay there. They don't go away. I know you think you're driving to work. But you're not driving to work. All your brain is thinking is if it weren't for my horse, if it weren't for my horse. You sit down and have dinner with your family, and you think you're having dinner, but it's not, it's going woowoowoowoo, how did she get into college with a horse? It's like a mobius strip in your head, it just goes over and over and over for seven days that's all you think about. You don't know you're thinking about it, but you're brain's going overtime, and at the end of the week, they find you dead in your bathroom.

So it's our duty to throw those random bits of mental torture out into the community. Some will laugh and others will burst a blood vessel wondering wtf is going on. -
That breeze you are feeling is the point of Zombie's post going over your head. Wether or not you recognize the character in the picture is not relevant. Other people do. Primarily the ones that own the copyright/trademark.

Quote:Both are awful ideas. Superman@thisnamelooksstupid.com looks retarded, and Kiken's response pretty much sums up why names should remain unique.Which do you think was a bad idea?
Setting up an environment in which character names are not unique or using the account name as the unique tag?
I do not think that using the account name and displaying the account name was an option I would have chosen. Other options to accomplish the same thing exist though.
But, removing the restriction on unique names is a fantastic idea. I am very tired of not being able to use a name which fits a new character concept because "it is already taken" especially in a game which is 5 years old. -
Quote:Hate to break the news to ya Space, but fascists are equal opportunity oppressors. In WWII 3,700 women served as concentration camp guards, and women such as Therese Brandl and Irmtraut Sell, belonged to the Totenkopf ("Death's Head") units.Quick Reply to the thread.
Yeah no. The 5th wouldn't really want/have female soldiers in their groups, fascist tend not to be the best feminist at heart.
So there really is no reason the 5th couldn't have female members.

[quote=Twisted Toon;2284415]sorta like this one?

Use the ignore feature. Those idiots just disqualified themselves from your contests, and with them ignored you won't have their troll comments in your chatbox cluttering up and confusing the responses from the players wanting to participate.

Quote:The same thing will probably happen with Cryptic's STO.It's "Star Wars". That label generates a certain amount of business no matter how lame the product is especially when there isn't an alternative Star Wars title to draw a player.
The only thing that can really kill it is the Lucas' license fees get larger than the profits. -
Quote:That maybe true but how many cans of coke come with:Probably, but that's not really relevant to whether I think $10 constitutes a "micro" amount of money. I mean, you can get a Cadillac for a lot less money than a similarly-equipped Jaguar, but they're both bloody expensive compared to a can of Coke.

Quote:Lol. I'm sure we could find people that can verify other MMO's have charged more than $10 for a similar service. I think WoW charges $25 - $30, and EverQuest is $50.Just for the record, I don't think 10 bucks is particularly "micro".
SWG is closing 12 of their servers and has told the players on those servers they have until October 15, 2009 to move their characters or:
"Beginning October 16th, 2009 at 12:01 AM PT you will be able to contact Customer Support and for the standard Character Transfer fee of $50.00 you will be able to schedule a transfer for your character, eligible structures and inventory."
So I think we got a pretty good deal. It's not cheap, but it isn't outrageous compared to others. -
The post I remember was made just after server transfers was introduced as a micrtransaction. What I rememebr being said was if at some point in the distant future they were to decide to implement a serverless enviroment the fees paid for prior server transfers would not be refunded.

Quote:ROFL. Yeah right. We lost all those players but they're still paying their subscription fees. Oh wait subs are up that must mean we are getting an influx of new people that want to give the company money but don't want to play. The devs must be doing something right since they have managed to convince people to subscribe that aren't going to play. This game has lost ridiculous amounts of players over the last few months.
Our devs are intelligent and learn from others mistakes so they aren't going to destroy this game by implementing bad ideas from Champions. -
Quote:I gotta say I agree with most of Forbin's Canned Points.
Most of my characters had a Name, Background Story, and Theme in mind before creation. It would piss me off extremely if I lost even one of my characters Names.
I, like most other SG Leaders, are most likely very fond of our Sg's as they are right now. I don't want my Name changed, I don't want to be Merged with another SG that has the same name, I most definately don't want to lose my SG. Either of these things again Piss me off extremely.
I play on Triumph, I've always played on Triumph. I like Triumph. I don't want to play on Triumph/Pinnacle or Pinnacle/Triumph. I would like to stay right where I'm at.
I can only speak from my own in game experience, and all of this is of coarse my opinion, and how I feel about this particular topic.
But I think alot of the points being so readily dismissed as "Opinion" may be a concern to more people than you think.
Just clarifying, the canned points are Memphis_Bills, I just did a copy/paste.

Quote:I belong to two other gaming communities and these types of threads are very common. For some reason, some people feel the need to let eveyone else know that they are upset with some aspect of the game, so they create a thread in some fruitless attempt to convince others that the game is dieing. I say fruitless because the disscussion holds no purpose what so ever. Are they trying to get everyone to stand up and promote the game to gain subs? nope. They are unhappy and are facing the door but dont want to walk out by themselves.
One of the communities I belong to is a game that came onto the market in 2001. For 8-1/2 years now, you can bank on a weekly thread from a bitter player who is just upset at the developers because of game mechanics changes or lack of changes that suits their play style. So they make a thread to let everyone else know that they are P.O.'d. I point and laugh followed by a wave goodbye.
Just to clarify the OP was merely asking because he had noticed a difference after taking a long break, and even tho I think he overreacted when someone mentioned other people making DOOM posts, he was clear that wasn't his intention.
OP's have no control over who pops into their thread and starts spouting crackpot ideas. -
Quote:Yeah but how many people out there are mature enough to not let their perceptions be colored by it? Let's face it there is some truth to the argument that people can get desensitized to violence. We live in a society where we are bombarded with all sorts of violence on a daily basis from movies, tv, magazines, games. Strangers get dehumanized and the next thing you know it's ok for some twit to ride a bicycle thru a crowded bus stop. If someone gets hurt then it's the fault of the pedestrians for not getting out of the way.PFTG
E.g.: Pretendy Fun Time Games
Its the same reason people play any computer game, or usually do (As usual, you get the odd exception) Its Not Real.
In essence, a game like this is where y'can explore things you dont agree with in real life, you can be the 'good guy', the 'bad guy' or anything inbetween. And yes, you can fly, throw fireballs and generally look and act cooler than possible in real life
In game =/= Real life
-shrug- -

I'm confused. People object to Eisregens story but enjoy playing a game where they throw fireballs and lightning at npc's, riddle them with bullets and slice them into bloody little pieces with swords all the while dressed up like costumed vigilantes.

Quote:As always with that reply number 7 is the only valid point, but it is valid enough to prevent it from happening anytime in the near future.
1-4 are just some dude's opinion. One shared by many I'm sure, just as I'm sure many would enjoy a more populated experience.
If I can solve 5, 6 (with the assumption that bases could move) with about 2 seconds of thought I'm sure someone smarter than me could do it too.
7 - as mentioned the only technically valid point.
8 - back to dudely's opinion
9 - neither freedom or virtue hit more than 2 dots last 2x xp event, hardware has been upgraded well enough to fulfill the task now.
10 - CoX has survived plenty of death knells around the community and has even weathered some bad PR as lately as i14. If a merge was determined to be the course of action it would work out better than if it was determined to be important and it wasn't done.
It hasn't been necessary to date and I think it is fair to see where the game stands after the dust settles. If it staves off CO it is pretty bullet proof, though CO seems to be doing everything it can to make that as easy as possible for CoX heh.
To be honest I'd like to see 4 more servers added. The ones I have in mind are the EU servers. -
Quote:First off you aren't whining.Just out of curiosity, where should I go first to ask for assistance? I want to get the most out of my, uh, whining. =)
Second don't feel embarrassed. People delete characters for a lot of reasons and later change their minds.
I haven't gotten a character restored myself so I think you can either file an ingame petition making the request or click on support at the top of the updater and make your request that way.
Nevermind Sungryphon seems to know the procedure. Disregard my blatherings. -
Yeah you'll definately need to talk to CS. You'll need the character names and you'll have to tell them as close as you can the date that they were deleted. I wish you the best of luck.
