Quote:Unfortunately that isn't what happened. The people that ragequit over the fixes to the AE exploits were furious that they could no longer get outrageous rewards for little time and risk put into running AE content.the argument is always that players who want comparable rewards to time spent in MA over dev content, are like greedy football players who should just take the pay cut and realize they're on a good team.
It wasn't about comparable rewards for them, it was about filling maps with targets that couldn't/wouldn't fight back. -
The people that quit because the exploits got fixed wouldn't have stuck around very long anyway. They were planning to leave in September when that other super hero MMO went live. While they waited they bashed CoH on those forums but when that game went live they started cancelling their subs before the first week was up. By the end of the month that game was a barren wasteland compared to our playerbase.

Quote:People may have had a new addition to their family, and decided to stop playing for a while
People may have gotten laid off from their jobs and decided to only spend money on top priorities
Another MMO just released, and people went there
People burned out and didn't want to play anymore
A power got nerfed, and caused people to ragequit (*snicker*)
Now these are great examples of why some people let their subs expire instead of rearranging their game time to fit a new schedule. But you forgot ragequitting when the devs fixed an exploit they were abusing.

NCSoft can speak for themselves, and the answer so far has been pretty clear. Even tho the population has dropped lower than it was last year they are still making enough money to keep all the servers up, pay everyones saleries, and still show a profit.
-
Quote:yes there are some legit reasons but how do you explain CoH only having roughly 60k subs and earning 1mil per month currently when in 2009 there were roughly 21,000,000 (pay to play) mmo gamers in the U.S. alone who spent an average of $15 per month???
Even with flaws, CoH is one of the cooler games out there compared so why such poor numbers???
Wow, it really galls you that NCSoft is still turning a profit with this game despite all your predictions that it's doomed.
Keep your fingers crossed there big guy, and maybe things will get worse like you keep saying. -
Quote:As a counterpoint, the fanboys always have an excuse as to why less people are playing:
It's Summer, people are outside
It's Fall, people are busy starting school
It's the holidays, people are spending time with family
It's after the holidays, people are playing with their new games
It's Spring, people are getting out after a long winter
It's finals/graduation people are busy
It's summer...
I've seen every single one of those brought out as an excuse as to why the player population is dropping.
They aren't excuses. They are legitimate reasons why people change their real life schedules. Having those things happen doesn't mean that they up and cancelled their subscriptions like you want people to believe.
The truth is that even with subscriptions being lower then they used to be most of the playerbase doesn't have problems finding teams on any server regardless of the size of its population.
It sure is fun watching you guys froth at the mouth whenever anyone disagrees with you. -
Quote:I do care a little, but I'm not gonna get entirely bent out of shape over it.Given some of your other posts in this thread, you seem to care a little!

Why though? I understand supporting the devs, but I don't understand why people take it so personally when others complain. Seems strange to me. I like pizza, but it is no harm to me if someone else doesn't. *Shrug* -

You can get real donuts from the donut shop in Freedoms Faultline.

Quote:I heard something second hand along the lines that when GW2 comes out GW players that buy it are supposed to be able to bring over at least one of their characters in some capacity.Unless PS announces around DCUO's launch that they've begun work on a followup to City Of Heroes and offer loyalty perks for those who remain subbed during it's development. Win, win.
That would be cool here. -
Quote:Which is even MORE boring, but that's her problem, not mine.
Old Blueside content sucks in places, but the newer Blueside stuff is pretty good. I just ran a Scrapper around with XP turned off at 33 to try to run it all at that level, and I gotta say, it got boring in places. I'm glad I could run some of the Croatoa stuff as a reward.
See that's an idea I've been toying with. I have a leperchaun I'm leveling up to make Croatoa his home. Once he hits my target level I'm turning off his xp, and I'll run him when I want play around in that zone. -
I have characters on both sides, The free server transfers will let me shift them around tho and open up slots on some servers while building up a presence on others. And I can free up some names without deleting anyone.

Quote:LOL Most people are bringing their heroes to redside because the content and gameplay are much better there.
In your delusions. Most players won't set foot redside because they hate the linear content. The only thing hated more than redside content is PvP. -
Yeah and most players with villains will be bringing their favorite archetypes over to blueside and never looking back. So why waste dev time making content that only half a dozen people will use. Plug the resources into where people are actually playing the game.
-
It's also inconceivable to the doomies that peoples real life schedules do in fact change and that when something like school or college starts they may decide only to play 2 nights a week rather than the 5 nights a week they were playing previously. No instead the doomies are convinced that any change to a persons schedule means they have cancelled their account and they'll never be back. So any change in the number of players online at a given time is proof the game is dying.

Quote:Oy! I don't want to start the thread this way lol. Editing out my comment (which people can still see in the second post lol).
No problem I'll edit my post as well. no harm no foul.
Edit: I had just finished reading the doom post below and didn't get the snark up here. Oh well these things happen. -
Let the doomies rant their doom. I'm too busy playing the game to care what they say.

Edited out of courtesy to the OP because he changed something in his post.

Quote:You do realize that many manufacturers do exactly this with many retailers, yes? To get recognition/signage/preferential treatment as an official retailer retail outlets frequently agree to carry specific products and accessories from a manufacturer. Manufacturers like Hewlett Packard will even mandate what the prices will be.
That only works when the retailers have competitors. The manufacturer has the freedom of saying if you don't like this we can go across the street and deal with your competition.
In South America there is only the one retailer (Why I have no idea). They can tell NCSoft what their willing to carry and if NCSoft doesn't like it then their players can find another way to pay for their subscriptions.
You could say that retailer has a monopoly in that area.
So how do you force a retailer to do something you want when they can say, "Go ahead and pull your time cards. Your gonna lose more money if you do that then we will." -
Quote:Well to be accurate he has most of it. The pre-purchase will be missing some of the perks, but he can buy the missing goodies in the GR perk/booster pack they'll start selling on the 17th.You must have pre-purchased, since:
1) Pre-orders are only between you and the retailer you pre-ordered with. It would not show up on your NC account.
and
2) Pre-ordering doesn't give you anything (except for POing at Gamestop which'll give you some not-quite-IOs on the 17th).
So yup. You don't have to run out on Tuesday to go buy GR. You already have it. -
The problem with the Predators is that we only see one tiny aspect of their culture in the movies. What we see is what they do for fun. Like how the old big game hunters used to go on safari in Africa.

South America has a huge problem with credit card fraud and NCSoft isn't willing to deal with it the financial penalties they get charged by the credit card companies when fraudulent charges are processed. It sucks big time for our South American brethren, but it's an ugly situation.
