    Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Green Lantern is a job title, not a name. You call a member of the Green Lantern Corps "Green Lantern" just like you call a member of the USMC "Marine".

I don't think that will be bad because, if it's medical technology, eventually everyone will be able to afford it and most of my peers and friends will be ageless too. And if I get bored of life, I can snuff it. Voluntary and accidental death are still possible. I really don't see a down side to being ageless and rejuvenated given my criteria above.
Did you even stop to consider what would happen if people stopped dying?

    1. Overcrowding. Exactly where are all the people supposed to live if everyone is immortal?

    2. With overcrowding comes diminishing food supplies. As more and more people need places to live the amount of land used for food production will get smaller and smaller. Animals used for livestock will become extinct in the face of ever growing demands to feed a population that never dies except by accident or suicide.

    3. Jungles and forests will be decimated to make room for an ever growing population which will result in there being less oxygen produced that is essential to support life.

    4. Pollution will constantly get worse just because the need for natural resources will increase to meet the demands from en ever growing population.

    5. When the food and fuel resources get to a critical point governments will start fighting wars to grab as much of the stuff for their own people. Or they might institute state run breeding programs. I'm sorry citizen but you need a licence to start a family, and you are only allowed 1 child per household. Governments could also run state euthanasia programs instead of retirement to help reduce overpopulation. Anyone remember Logan's Run? Everyone gets put to death at Carousel when they turn 30.

Strongly disagree. The mechanics of this power are different than any other travel power. It's similar to a cross between Super Jump and Flight without having the full speed of one, or the full control/versatility of the other.

Maybe in the morning... well... later today... I'll look into writing up electric and some others...

    -Rachel-

I'd much rather have costume pieces/recipes that customize the basic travel powers than being forced to choose between 6 variations of Fly, SJ, SS, TP.

Right now I can fly like Superman on one costume, then if I get exposed to cosmic radiation I can switch costumes and FLAME ON! like the Human Torch. One day I may drink a magic potion and grow wings, or I might decide to zoom around using the Rocket Boots like Iron Man.

One character, 4 different styles of flight, 1 travel power.

Now I'm not against totally new travel powers, I'd just rather see any variations of existing travel powers be done as cosmetic.

Tier 2: Hover: As Hover, but with a slightly higher base speed and air friction similar to Fly.

Tier 3: Fire Flight: As Fly, with a Flaming Aura animation, slightly higher speed, and far less air friction.

Tier 4: Burn Patch: 5ft AoE "Drop" power. Creates a flaming pet power at the user's feet which mimics a LOW damage "Burn" power with less ticks and lower damage. Pet does not have Fly. Pet casts a small immob protection power on user.

There is no reason to make new powers to get effects that already exist in the game. Simply changing costumes to one with a fiery body aura like Omega and you can have fiery flight when you turn fly on.

    Quote:
    Ice Slide Power Pool

Frozen Strike: Single Target smashing/cold attack, minor slow power.

Icy Blood: Auto power, resist slow effects slightly

Ice Slide: As "VIP Jetpack" with a higher forward movement speed, low air friction, and a constant jump height bonus roughly equivalent to SuperJump. The speed of this power should cap somewhere between flight and Superjump, probably around 64-65 MPH. The animation should be as the Prestige Power Slide" upper body position with a blue/white cloud at the feet trailed by a blue and white "Superspeed" trail.

Northern Wind: PBAoE Toggle, similar to Whirlwind with a self -Speed and a Kd and Slow effect rather than KB

    -Rachel-

And all we need for this is an Ice Slide costume recipe. The animations already exist in game and are being used on the Power Slide sprint power. Just use them for fly animations.

    1. I explained how they can be abused by using them to avoid the ambushes or even to lead high level ambushers to lower level players in the zone to grief-kill them and then use Mission Teleport to whisk themselves to safety. See unlike dragging a GM to grief lowbies an ambush doesn't need to be attacked to get it to follow you.

Sixth power in the set would be Zone Travel. Activating this power would allow the toon to Run/Jump/Fly/Teleport to zones they have been too before, bypassing other travel methods. It would have to be logical, not too Praetoria or Cimerora for example. This would allow toons that do not have base access or toons with small bases the ability to zone without a lot of convoluted screen changes. This would also seriously benefit Rogues & Villians who are unable to add all the beacons to their existing bases.

No one would have to take these powers of course, just as no one has to take any travel power at all. Sprint and/or Ninja Run are fine for many folks.

Yes we already have the mission teleport but it has a huge recharge time and honestly crossing several zones to get to a mission is just annoying. . .

    Uhm no.

Some missions spawn ambushes that are supposed to be dealt with. The only way I can see the devs implementing your travel power ideas in the game would be if the ambushes immediately spawned at your destination when you activated the travel power so they'd be waiting to open fire on you as soon as you arrived.

That's the whole reason behind the long timers on the "Mission Teleport" and "Summon Teammates" powers. To prevent abuse.

Honestly? IMO it depends on the misspelling. If I see someone with a name like Lronblade instead of Ironblade I assume they are abusing the similarity between the capital "L" and "I" ingame so they can use a name someone else got first. Same goes for names that have numbers substituted for letters. Although I do check their bio to see if they made an effort to explain why they are using leetspeak in their name.

However I've read books where authors spelled "witch" with a "y" and magic with a "k" or a "yk". So in cases like that I assume the player was trying to be creative and come up with a unique memorable name.

Well I get a lot of use out of level 10 IO's. I can buy them dirt cheap at the market often for less than I'd pay for TO's and DO's, and I don't have to replace them until level 22 which allows me to save all the currency I get from selling my drops and that money adds up fast.

I agree that those are very irritating but what bugs me more is how I can use fire powers underwater. It's as immersion breaking as seeing people using a grappling hook to swing from the clouds when they are in the desert or crossing a lake in the wilderness.

    No worries, J_B
I just don't think the current system needs to be switched. I, personally, like unique names. That's really the difference. Some people like a system that allows for duplicate names and some do not. We can try and explain why (On either side), but at the end of the day, it will boil down to personal preference.
The fact that the game uses the one system means that there needs to be a clear issue and need for the drastic change to a duplicate name system.

The only cause anyone can give for needing a duplicate name system has been that they want names that other people already have.

If name purges were done, then, at least, names on inactive accounts would become opened up (Besides those who come back for one month and disappear).
I think serious name purges should be done (repeatedly, over a series of several months... after all... new inactive accounts will become aged enough as those few months go by) well before a drastic system change is done.

If the devs decided they thought it best to switch to an invisible global name-tied duplicate system... I wouldn't freak out or anything. I'd rather not see it happen. Not because any of my characters might have duplicates (The only possibly likely candidate for that would probably be Electric-Knight, I suppose), but simply because I prefer for everyone I deal with to have their own unique names and not have to deal with multiple players/characters with the same names.

The amount of multiple names would be far greater than the amount of alternate spelling similar names we have in this system. Both because no one would know that name was taken already (So no reason to not go with it) and because very simple, commonly thought of names would always go through.

The possibility of 20 Dark Lords may not be far off, hehe.

It's not out of fear. It's just out of personal preference. The game you choose to play is part of your property or neighborhood. You hope it stays the way you like it, the way you enjoy it.
    It's not a knee-jerk reaction, it's just preference.

Just as someone prefers open/sharing names, others prefer unique names. And not because they're selfish and want their names (The same way I'm not saying those who want duplicate names are selfish because they want my name or someone else's name). That preference extends to all players, not just themselves.
It's just a matter of taste. Possibly compounded with the Developers' taste and the existing system that has been in place.

I do have an interesting question (Not that I think it will come to this, but...):

IF (let's just pretend) cross server teaming was only possible through a duplicate naming system throughout all servers... would people be willing to change their minds about their preference?

If it were up to me I'd let that name purge program run after every scheduled maintenance. That way it would constantly release names on accounts that went over the 3 month inactive deadline.

As to cross server teaming all that's needed is a title that identifies the home server the character is from.

No you didn't. With a unique naming system it's a lot harder for player A to be mistaken for player b because they can't have the same name.

    Under our current system

Superdude: Hey Hyperstrike, I think I see that guy who was a jerk to you the other day. Wasn't his name John E. Butane?

That means the flaw isn't with the nameing system, or even the ignore system, the flaw is with you and your friends not thinking critically for yourselves. Changing the name system won't change that either way. It would be no different than it is now.

And frankly, if they are that sheep-like and gullible, I doubt I'd mind being on their ignore list.

So when you can't refute the flaws in your arguments you resort to casting insults on the motivations of tight knit communities. Yeah that wins people over all the time.

Super Speed - Remove Cap please.
Fly - Remove speed Cap pelase.
Teleport - Change Group Teleport to Longdistance teleport allowing you to TP to any zone, this ofcourse could have a long recharge and animation time and you could arrive at the same position you do when using base tp'rs but I think this would be much much better and make the pool alot more popular.
SuperJump - To be honest I like this power as it is.

Some people mention Swinging but many of us agree that it looks absolutely stupid when it's being used outside of a zone with skyscrapers.

Others mention Wallcrawling but it really isn't a travel power, and I don't think it's possible with our game engine.

We aren't getting vehicles for reasons discussed in other threads.
  15. Here's what I love about this argument.

Player A: This unique naming feature is unfair. I can't get any good names because everyone else got them first. I want to be able to use the same cool names they have.

Everyone else: We don't have any problems coming up with cool names.

    Player A: Your names suck.

Everyone else: If we took all the names, and our names suck why do you want to be able to use them on your characters?

    Player A: . . . *head explodes*

Actually yes they do use that feature to turn off the @thislooksstupid and that's exactly where the arguments start over being mistaken for someone else.

They turn the feature off then get the wrong person in trouble because they never bother to find out what the global name of the real offender is.

Wrong. People don't need to click on the person's text or on the character to /gignore them.

For example let's say I'm in an global channel with Hyperstrike and he tells me and everyone else about this jerk he met the day before running a character named "Johnny Butane". An hour or so later I see you on your character named "Johnny Butane", and I say in my global channel, "Hey here's that guy that was a jerk to Hyperstrike. Someone in the global asks me what your global name is and I tell them. Just like that you've been added to 30+ ignore lists and you don't know why your having trouble finding teams.

That's fine but we don't need new travel powers to get new animations. They could add new costume recipes that modify existing travel power animations.

Take fly for example. That has been modified already with Wing and Rocket Boot recipes. They could easily make new ones for jetpacks, flying platforms, broomsticks, etc.

For example you started off saying SS isn't useful, and finished with a travel power should be good for traveling long distances. If you don't see how that sounds crazy then there isn't much to discuss.

No it isn't. It's a factual example of how lazy people can be, even when it's in their best interest. Yes some people will make an effort to check global names, but most won't bother. It's much easier to just /gignore.

You do realize that most players use the /gignore and notes features more often than they use the /petition. Furthermore it really doesn't matter what a GM decides. Even if a player chose to use the "ignore as a spammer" feature which generates a petition as well as puts the offender on the ignore list, a GM isn't going to go into the players ignore list and remove the petitioned person from the list.
