All I really want for the anniversary event is for something new... I don't think that's too much to ask, is it? Something new that actually fits in the game storyline instead of chucking it out the window again...

It doesn't even have to be anything that big, honest! Hell, I'd settle for a day of Arachnos invading Paragon.

It takes time to translate "CoH 5th Anniversary EU Celebrations! There's a badge." into French and German.

COH 5. Jahrestag der EU-Fest! Es gibt ein Abzeichen.

CoH célébrations du 5e anniversaire de l'UE! Il ya un badge.

No FFM, from 11am to 12am. In other words from 11 in the morning until midnight. So 4pm to 5 in the morning if the same times are mapped to over here. Really they should have used better phrasing for that.

If its a day of Winter Hordes, Zombie Invasions, Rikti and christmas pressies I'll be pretty underwhelmed too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You forget the Rularuu too... All that at once would certainly be chaos. It'd also be lagtastic and incredibly underwhelming. 5 years is kind of special for an MMO, you'd think they'd do something NEW.

Well, we'll just have to see I guess.

Wonder when we'll get our official post about this?

I dunno wether you consider it worth reading or not, but it will be an official anouncement of CoH2.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd be interested to see what makes you come to that conclusion.

However, lets for a moment assume that you're correct and that Posi is announcing CoH2. How does that affect CoH, or improve it in any way? Unless they're going to close CoH1 and transfer all our characters to CoH2, then it's pretty meaningless as far as THIS game is concerned, no?

We need to see updates for THIS game, not some hypothetical sequel that's likely to be a couple of years away.

I guess we'll just have to see what Posi has to say on the 28th.

Soooo.... From 11am to 12pm EST (that's 4pm to 5pm GMT or 5pm to 6pm BST - When most of us aren't back from work yet), we get to experience old content that we've all seen before and doesn't actually require much effort on the devs part other than flipping a toggle?

    I'm soooooooooo impressed... Not.

But wait, there's competitions too! Of course, they're going to be US only. They can't run cross continental ones, as we all know.

I thought the 5th year anniversary event was going to be something special?

Ah well. At least there's SOME chance that Posi might have something to say worth reading in his address. Not gonna hold my breath though.

With regard to planned events for 28th.

I have a hunch the devs have thier own in game event planned, and are trying very hard to keep it secret.

    It could cause disruption.

Who wants to lay bets on a Rikti Invasion complete with motherships?

Or a 5th Column invasion complete with giant zeppelin's?

How much do you want to bet on an all star, star spangled party, all comers welcome, with maybe a surprise attack at the end. Just come to Pocket D on Freedom.

    Combat capable allies.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If anything wouldnt they be kept IN? I hate missions with strong allies (as my team found out yesterday when we had THREE AV allies, oh i cursed a lot at all the kill steals!) since it becomes a case of "lets watch them npcs duke it out!".

    [/ QUOTE ]

They've already taken force field generators away from us. What's to stop you replacing them with a FF defender or empath or other kind of buffbot? Combat doesn't have to mean offensive combat... The MA doesn't make any distinction there, does it?

the WoW 5th anniversery celebrations weren't much...infact by and large they were quite small.

You got an account shareable non-combat pet, a baby polar bear (upt for a company named Blizzard really) and got a special achievement oh and level 80 elite Tauren chief would turn up outside a major neutral city and play 'power of the horde' every hour or so.

Still part of me thinks even something like that would be a bit a much for CoX.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How can WoW have had it's 5th anniversary already, when CoH launched before WoW did?

    WoW - 23/11/2004
    CoH - 28/04/2004

And then they turn the servers off in the middle of the day for 5 hours or so, so they can remove some more stuff from the MA.

For the record, I'm not expecting or hoping for ANYthing for the 5th anniversary. It'll probably just tick over like any other ordinary day.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So about as popular as a Led Zepplin then huh?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    .... I'll get your coat.
  13. I used to be of that opinion, until I actually used Steam a few times. Sure, you could argue that digital delivery should be cheaper as there's no DVD printing costs, or packaging costs etc, but the distribution servers have to be paid for, and so does the bandwidth to delivery that content to you. It all adds up and could easily match the costs for physical distribution.

Just look upon it as a bit more environmentally friendly. Plus, you also get to reach customers in countries where your game might never have been released before.
  14. [ QUOTE ]

And still they charge retail prices.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh the sheer CHEEK of a retailer daring to charge the full retail price for a product! It shouldn't be allowed, you know! I demand that they instantly sell everything they have for a fair price that doesn't exceed 1p!

Whatever floats your boat. Personally, I'd call it a reskin of a Rikti invasion.

    [ QUOTE ]

Personally, I'm sick and tired of all the "soon" rubbish, and no longer expect ANYthing from NC.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So just what exactly do you think the 3-times-as-large dev team are doing right now?
Jay previously made costume parts and new NPCs at the same time while working on his own, so obviously with an assistant now he's only capable of making a few costume parts for a booster pack.
BAB used to work alone too - but he's got at least one assistant in the animation department now - so I guess NCSoft really wanted to make sure that /e cardtrick emote looked just right?
War Witch - who does zone NPC text and placement - is certainly blackmailing NSCSoft to keep her job, as she's had next to no work in the previous two Issues.
And NCSoft, well aware of the two new superhero MMOs on the way, rehired Sean "Manticore" Fish - the CoH story/lore guru - right after they bought the game, because they thought it'd be cool for him to hang out with his old work team again?
And apparently NCSOft are still looking to hire more for the dev team - just to help out the economy, of course.
So now that the MA is released - quite obviously the last thing left on their "to do" list - they call all kick back with soda or coffee and fully enjoy their renamed studio while NCSoft donates even more cash to them.
Because it's totally unlikely that the devs would actually be working, or have a strategy bulit around the release of possible competitor MMOs, or that NCSoft would even want them to do this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, now you're just trying to put words into my mouth.

I never said that NC weren't doing SOMEthing. I just said I'm sick of them constantly saying "soon", when "soon" NEVER materialises.

    Fix the forum software? "Soon"
    City Vault? "Soon"
    More official content? "Soon"

In most reasonable people's books, "soon" would normally equate to within a couple of months AT THE MOST.

I'm sure much of it WILL eventually turn up (except the City Vault, but I have my own reasons for being sure it's gone forever). But if it's not "soon", I won't be here to see it.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
This would be good news, if it hadn't been for the fact that Steam SUCKS BIGTIME. I've purchased three games through steam, and they all took more than 6 hours to download. One (Dawn of War 2) took significantly longer (10 hours). And the customer support is almost non-existant. They rely more on players on the forum to help players who has trouble, than on actual company rep's. It's a horrible service, and they charge retail price for virtual products. Long live profit-chasing over customer service!

    [/ QUOTE ]

One can hardly blame a digital delivery service for your connection speed. I've had several games over Steam, and they've all downloaded quite fast. HL2 was downloaded and running in about 20 minutes, from scratch.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
There will always be soon, from any developer, for any MMO, because all content takes time, nothing can be done instantly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

True, but soon != over a year, as in the case of the vault or many of the other things we've been told "soon" for.

From now on, I treat any use of the word "soon" as "never".

    That's 30 "definite" powersets then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of anything in ML's list.
  23. [ QUOTE ]

My only current problem with CO itself is a lack of powersets being displayed. All I've seen so far are energy swords and dual pistols. CoH has vastly more than that.

Do you honestly think that CO only has energy swords and dual pistols?
