  3. It can take time to find the right angle for yourself. One trick I try is to put at least little of my own personality into the character I'm playing. I had a few false starts at first before I found one I was happy with, and in fact I almost never alt when roleplaying as I find I can't do any other characters anywhere near as well as my main, Miss Ellie.

I have been thinking lately though... Considering I'm a happily married man, should I be concerned that the character I'm most comfortable with is a female alien/human/cat mixture who also happens to be engaged to another woman?

I have about six/seven hours where I'm just say on my [censored] travelling this evening (Holland, w00t, seeing Augury, w00ter), so I'll get started then.

    [/ QUOTE ]

OT I know but... I thought you two lived together? Wow... and I thought *I* had it harsh when I had to drive 80 miles to see my girlfriend (now wife)!

Stop worrying about silly games, go have fun with Augury and do the retcon when you come back!

  7. Apologies for the delay on this people. ShadowGhost and I have decided that we will promote all those who have accepted their nomination to MOD status in the GGOOC channel

Why are we doing this? Because we've decided to step away from the GG meets for a time, and in-fact, neither of us have been in-game much as late. We may be around from time to time, but nowhere near as much as being a MOD requires.

I cannot speak for Ghost on this, but once all the nominee's have been promoted, I will be dropping my MOD status in the channel.

    Yes!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Kinda makes them pointless then, doesn't it?
  11. OK, All the nominations are in... We will try to contact all the nominee's in the next day or so and once we have a final list, we will post a new thread for votes!
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Would be nice to hear from nominated people what they themselves think of being nominated, or doing the job.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    From my original post:

    [ QUOTE ]

Once all nominations are in, we will contact each via PM or game email and ask if they'd be interested

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the nominated wish to speak publically, then go for it, but we feel contacting them privately to ask if they'd like to accept the nomination is fair on them.

Rest assured, if any nominated are not in the vote, then they didn't want to serve! I've no wish to get lynched by fibbing about it!!
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Prize? FFM? Break it up, you two. Take it to PMs

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes dad, sorry dad, we've made peace now dad... I think!

    So.. People.. many more nominations?
  14. Possibly I read more into your suggestion than you intended. If so, then I'm sorry if I've been somewhat short.

Please know that I don't feel ANY kind of animosity to you in any way at all. Sometimes I can come across a bit off, especially as I have outside pressures on me, but that's no excuse so please, accept my sincere apologies if you feel I've offended you.

However, I stand by the purpose of GGOOC. It's nothing to do directly with the roleplay at GG, it's just a chat channel that we want to keep family friendly.
  15. [ QUOTE ]

    4) This thread called for nominations, and yet one of the organisers of the thread felt fit to specifically comment on my nomination. No other player has had the disrespect to try to influence against someone being nominated. What was a positive thread but this one action has become negative?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Attempting to influence? Not at all. You've been nominated, so it stands. If I had a problem with you being nominated, then I wouldn't list your name when we open the vote thread. Your name will be on it, along with everyone else who's been nominated. Like I said, it will be the community decision. I merely expressed surprise that you now seemed interesting having not done so before.

As for a bee in my bonnet. The only bee I have is over the remit of GGOOC. We will NOT change it from what it is currently. Such is not open to discussion and any new MODS will be expected to realise that and abide by it.

The channel mods only job will be to keep the chat channel friendly. If people want a roleplay community thread that does cover the grounds you've raised, please start one. I, however, do not feel it right that one set of roleplayers have any authority over another set at the statue, nor should we have one group representinge everyone. There was an incident a while ago where we DID actually try something along those lines... It was a massive mistake and caused lots of problems for those involved and the channel mods. I do not want a repeat of such an incident.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I've always felt GGOOC was far more somewhere to discuss the football, or what RP games you like, or how your job is going than somewhere to discuss rules mechanics or the OOC running of the statue.

Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, you didn't, you got it spot on. It's for Out Of Character conversation, for pretty much any topic anyone wants to voice... It has NOTHING to do with the roleplay at GG except to reduce the amount of OOC chatter in local, which can disrupt peoples roleplay. And I'm determined it should stay that way, it's the only way, as far as I'm concerned, that it can work.
  17. [ QUOTE ]

It is a shame that you were unable to sit back and reflect upon my suggestion rather than dismissing it straight away.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are free to think what you wish, however that doesn't mean that we've not given this thought before. Such things were considered when the channel was first created. To assume we'd just dismissed it out of hand is rather presumptious, and wholly incorrect.

As Coile said, you are mixing GG and GGOOC up. One is NOT the other, never was and never will be. It's just an OOC chat channel that we try to keep family friendly.

    [ QUOTE ]

All I can say that whether I'm elected or not I will leave it up to the conscience of those elected to do what is right for the community and to portray us in a positive light.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Individual mods can choose to act in that way if they so wish, but it is off topic for the channel, and they do so purely as an individual. The point of GGOOC is NOT to portray the GG community in ANY light at all. It ONLY exists to reduce the amount of OOC chat spam in the RP area.

I'm actually surprised at your interest in serving. You've been asked before if you'd be interested, and declined at the time.
  18. Prize, I won't get into an argument over it, but please see Coile's post above yours as he says it perfectly. I will just state facts.

GGOOC is a global chat channel created to take the OOC away from the Roleplay. It was created by players, not devs, so WE set the rules. If you don't like how it's setup to run, and IMO it's the only way such a channel CAN be run, then you're free to setup your own, with your own rules.

As far as GGOOC is concerned, it's remit will NOT change. The mods are free to say what they want, how they want, where they want; as long as it's in the rules of the channel. All they have to do in GGOOC is stop fights flaring up and ask people to keep the bad language down, silencing or removing anyone who can't follow those two simple rules. Anything else is off topic for the channel, as it should be.

    [ QUOTE ]

1.) Personally I feel that should someone ask for public nominations, it is not ethical for those running the election to comment on specific nominations. It does not instill confidence in a fair procedure...

    [/ QUOTE ]

All nominations are pubic, as will the votes be. Anyone can tally them up. Your statement is extremely uncalled for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Emphasis mine.

We've decided to do this as we want to be fair to the community; we don't HAVE too. If you don't like the fact that we ARE opening it to public nominations and votes, then yes, you CAN sod off.

Christ, there's no pleasing some people... Give them what they ask for, and the STILL complain.

    [ QUOTE ]

    Prize especially deserves that position

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry, but though Prize may have been the founder, that does not, and should not, give him consideration over and above anyone else, nor any of the other founders still playing. Such would not be fair to others, including those who have been attending GG far longer than the founding members.

Reminder the criteria, one of which is MUST be a regular in GGOOC.

    Prize:
    [ QUOTE ]

I would personally like a greater importance added to the role of moderator of the GGOOC channel in that a moderator's conduct on the boards should be taken into account as well.
    .
A vital part of the role should be the inclusion of new players, and not misrepresenting the community on the boards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. Sorry Prize, but you seem to misunderstand the purpose of GGOOC, and the job of it's MODS.

GGOOC is an out of character chat channel for those who frequent the GG roleplay, to assist on reducing the OOC disruptions to roleplay. The job of it's moderators is to PURELY see that the channel stays a friendly place and that all disagreements are kept out of the channel.

A mods coduct anywhere else, either at GG in RP, the forums, or anywhere else, has NOTHING to do with GGOOC, and never will. We will not ask anyone serving as a MOD to have their free opinions restricted; nobody has the right to force that on them. In fact, we won't even restrict a mods opinion of something IN the channel, as that too restricts their right to a personal opinion. If a mod is causing a problem, the other mods will deal with it the same as anyone else. Repeated disruption could even cause loss of MODhood.

So no, I'm sorry, but a MODs job should not and will not be extended beyond trying to keep the channel a friendly place to chat OOC. Anyone not liking that, well I'm sorry but that's the way it stays; I will not let the channel become a dictatorship or restrict anyone's free speach within the game.

FFM.. Mate.. im not saying anything about how things have gone down over the last few months just that well kinda who died and made you and ghost God? If that makes sense..

    [/ QUOTE ]

No one made me god, I made myself, then I made Ghosty, and he made the GGOOC channel Then we made the rest of you and let you think you'd been around a lot longer!
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Just one more thing.. what if the GGOOC members dont want FFM and Ghost to be mods anymore? Me? I don't mind i like them both, but it is an idea

    [/ QUOTE ]

I cannot speak for Ghost there, but for me, I'd be rather... upset? Dissapointed? If people didn't want me as a MOD... I think I've done a pretty good job for the community so far, and have been as even handed as I could be.

A few things have happened that I've been overruled on, and far more things have happened that I've resolved. I've also done a few things I'm not terribly proud of as well, but all in all I think I've done a good job.

If people don't want me then fine, but.. well... How would you guys feel if it were you?
  22. Hey all,

As has been noted, most of the moderators for the GGOOC global channel have left or don't play as much. As such, ShadowGhost and I have been talking (with input from Zortel) and have decided the best way is to open the floor to nominations from the rest of the community. However, we also have some nominations of our own.

We would ask that you use this thread to post nominations and reasons why if you can.

We must stress though, that moderating the channel isn't all fun and games. We try to be as lax as possible and only step in when arguments start really, but any moderator should be prepared to suspend their RP if necessary to deal with any problems. Once we have a list of nominee's, we will contact each and ask them if they'd like to serve, and then open to voting. We are looking for 3 mods, to add to us too, as an odd number of mods is essential for votes etc.

Please consider the following when making nominations:

<ul type="square"> [*]Availability - They MUST be regulars on GGOOC [*]Fairness - They need to be able to NOT take sides in any issue [*]Personality - Being helpfull and friendly is a must[/list]
    So, our nominations are:

Red Commissar - A steady, regular player; often there to greet new people. Vocal and not too rash
Molok - A steady player who's always been pretty fair and reliable as far as I've seen
Dark Rose - Mature player, knows where lines are/should be drawn, on till late, not afraid to speak his mind

Each of these players are fairly popular in the community as far as we can tell!

We will take nominations until midnight (BST) at the end of Monday, 10th July 2006. Once all nominations are in, we will contact each via PM or game email and ask if they'd be interested; then list those that are will be put up for a public vote.

This, we feel, is the fairest possible way to do it.

    Regards

    FloatingFatMan,ShadowGhost and Zortel
