Quote:Ahh, I didn't realize he was talking about a EU-RP server. I was just totally confused! You have to remember that the EU and US have their own set of server locations... so it makes sense to have 2 unofficial RP servers (just like Union is the unofficial EU RP server)

Quote:They've already had server consolidations once...Er, not only are there major server consolidations, but TOR is going F2P this November.
Well, that's what you get when you throw an overly linear single player game onto MMO servers and try to charge a monthly fee for it.Bioware should stick to single player games, and I don't think TOR was even a good representation of them at that.
And yeah. TOR was an example of trying to do too many things and doing all of them badly, wrapped up in a shell of pretty graphics and poor performance. -

Let's see if I can get the forums to NOT eat this...
Quote:Except TOR was a BAD MMO. Seriously. I played it at launch, pre-ordered it and took part in the pre-order sneak peek/betas. Had to go because my PVP guild HAD to play it because about half of them were SW-fanbois and had played SWG. My guild leader was so certain of this game, he offered to buy the copy of anyone who hated it, so everyone could try it risk-free if they wanted. This thread just screams what was said about SWTOR last December, right after the much more versatile SWG was shut down to make way for it (which ALSO feels eerily familiar to the current situation)
Then came the Tortanic iceberg. EA's (another rather evil mega game corporation usually referenced by 2 letters) stocks crashed like a stone, half the population left, and SWTOR is going F2P in the fall.
And it was TERRIBLE. The initial story/playthrough was ok, in a single-player KOTOR sort of way, but the MMO parts of the game were stapled on crooked with a rusty staplegun. And the PvP was beyond belief bad. You had to grind PvP instances to get a chance for your gear, like it was PvE - the SAME three instances you'd been playing all the way up. The PvP world zone was a buggy joke and again, mostly PvE goals. And the game itself had NOTHING for you once you hit top level other than those instances. Over and over. I paid for one month past the free one, to stay with my guild, but by the end of the second month, most everyone was "on hiatus til they fix this." And now scattered to the wind.
GW2 is a GOOD game. More importantly, it's not a sub game. People can come and go as they please. There won't be a huge sub drop when Pandaria comes out, because there are no subs. People can go play WoW's new xpac if they want, drop in for an hour or two of GW2, or just wait til WoW's new content runs out and then go back. It'll be there. And probably with quite a bit of new content, since the Anet team has committed to a lot of little free updates like Paragon did.
Quote:What, you have conditions on behaving decently? Just because they are being out of line, is not an excuse for you to be out of line. Both sides could do with with some toning down. The (other half of) the community is not your enemy.
(As an aside, I haven't really seen this behaviour from you, Feycat, so this isn't directly aimed at you. But you did reply!)

Quote:I'm on Tarnished Coast - the unofficial RP server, like Virtue. In fact, I stayed up past 3am last night because I ran into some Norns randomly RPing around midnight and stopped to say hi... it was pretty fantasticActually got a chance to play the game a lot (boy am I sleepy >_>) since buying the game last week, all I was able to do was make a couple characters and do a bit of tutorial...
I'll agree with a lot of the reviews and say the game has it's problems. But it is pretty fun. That's really all I can say at the moment.
Anyway, what servers are you guys on that are playing? -
Orr is pretty epic.
That is all -

Quote:Gah, Jay. Seriously, can you stop trolling while toting the GW2 sign? You're making stuff worse :-/
-
Quote:Sure.(Also, before I forget: Could we please stop telling people who don't like to support NCSoft that they are wrong? It's a perfectly reasonable stance, and their opinion is as valid as yours. Thank you.)
If the people who are boycotting NCsoft could remind themselves not to imply that those playing GW2 are soulless, backstabbing immoral idiots, that would be super, too! -
Quote:That's fine if that's what it means to you. And I don't think anyone's saying that you should personally play GW2.Don't make the mistake to think that I LIKE that happening. Don't make the mistake to think I WANT that to be happening to Arenanet.
That's why I've said before, and I'll say again - if Arenanet disengaged somehow from NCSoft, I would have no qualms supporting them or GW2 in any way whatsoever.
But I will NOT budge one inch. NO money to NCsoft. And unfortunately that means no money to Arenanet at the present time either.
But he was responding to you saying...
Quote:But it means something to ME. I will know that I acted honorably and with principle.
And that's all that matters in the end. That I can look myself in the mirror and know I didn't stab my friends in the back by handing over money to the people that killed City of Heroes, the best damn MMO ever made. -
Quote:Lots of GW2 people are on our side. I see stuff in map chat about it every SINGLE day. Heck, I found out about the closure in GW2 map chat. People are not blind as to what this means for the entire stable of NCsoft's western games.Which is also why the Blade and Soul and Guild Wars 2 fans should be ranting and raving in our corner right now, picking up banners alongside us, impassioned alongside us, called to action alongside us. For those who are--I salute you.
For those who are telling the rest of us to just get over it? I'll only join your future self, when we're both smacking you upside the head. -
Quote:That's pretty much the exact feeling I had when I read it, that it was just culled from various forum posts and edited for readability.Re-reading that blog, i'm getting an odd feeling like i saw his argumentative points before in the CoX forums since the last couple weeks, especially his use of the phrase "scorched earth" in particular.
If i didn't know better, i would think he posted here or is getting most of his information from these forums. -
Yup. That's how I bought a character slot, a cosmetic armor set (sexy pirate! >.>) and a bank slot. I expect I'll be able to get everything I want from the cash shop with the silver-to-gems converter, I just can't have it all RIGHT NAO

Quote:I for one am hoping that he's not doing the "reveal-all" thread because he's going to need those secrets in the near future and doesn't want to spoil it all. When he offered to do that thread/AMA, there was no hope. Now, there may be enough that he doesn't want to spill all the beans anymore.Posi was going to try to have a "reveal all" thread last week and it didn't happen, and (to my knowledge, although I could easily have missed such a post) not even a "sorry, maybe next week" post. Granted it is entirely possible, and the most likely explanation, that they are too busy job hunting, or even have found new jobs, to post, but it is kind of odd and gives us some small bit of hope that things are going on they can't talk about.
To me, when he does that thread, that's when I know that our devs at least will not be coming back. -
It's a good game and deserves the sales. And Anet is a fantastic dev team and deserves the support despite their parent company - much like Paragon Studios.
I only hope Anet can buy out and get away from NCsoft. -
It depends how big the boss is and how many people are around :P I pan my camera back as far as I can and try to keep an eye on the bosses animations, but if they're too tall so I lose the ground/red circles, then I can't. Likewise, if there's too many people fighting a boss so the fx totally lose my toon (some events are just like... where the heck AM I? What's going on? There's just this flashy thing in the middle of the screen... it's like COH without the ability to turn off particles!) then I back out and swap to something ranged if I can. Or I just smash whirlwind over and over, haha

What, Ranger? :P >.>
Honestly, my ranger is only 21 and got 4 of those levels cooking (yay, cooking!) and I hardly feel like I have a handle on her gameplay yet. To me, the gameplay really stretched and distinguished itself post 20. Also, I duo with a thief, which means he's in melee and I can stand waaaaayyyy back and be lazy and stationary with my bow >.>
I am swapping my secondary weapon from shortbow to greatsword though, so I think I'll get a lot more workout, heh.
I found this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c..._it_out_to_be/ extremely helpful.
Quote:Good advice overall, but I admit I chuckled at this part.
In playing both The Secret World and GW, I've noticed that overworld enemies are mostly just time sinks that are not worth dealing with. You don't get a lot of rewards for killing them, and fighting them is often a slog.
That being said, I find that I mind fighting mobs LESS in GW2 because 1. I'm scaled down, so they're still challenging (yeah, that seems backwards, but I would rather get a good fight out of it rather than just one-shotting dudes as they fire their popguns at me) and 2. they tend to drop crafting mats I want.
I only watched the first 5 minutes or so (18 minutes?! I got too much ADD for that! LOL) but you didn't do anything that stood out really glaringly to me. I find my guardian the LEAST mobile of my critters. BUT, I would keep an eye on the following - when you drop to half health, if your mobs aren't almost dead, heal and swap to your tanking weapons (1H+shield/focus) so you stop taking mad damage for a while. It'll be slower to kill guys with your 1H, but if you've already whittled them down some with the greatsword it shouldn't be awful. And if you see someone winding up an attack, or they drop an area effect on you - yes, for god's sake, dodge :P If you don't like to double-tap (that's the ONLY way I dodge, but I use a Zfang gamepad) then use V. Re-bind it if V isn't convenient. But you are totally IMMUNE to damage for the couple seconds it takes you to roll. Why wouldn't you use it instead of slowly backing out of poison clouds and taking big windup hits? :P -
Quote:I just don't see why everyone needs to make a new thread about it. It just feels like it's pushing everything else off the front page, do we really need 10 different "I hate you, NCSoft!!" threads? Can't we all hate them in one place? This is a lot more helpful to the cause than calling people childish.
Though honestly, I don't see what's so bad about the OP keeping his rage and impatience contained here while actively participating in other calls to action. I mean, better I think it's better that he seethe, vent and get the pointy-sounding words out here, then trying to use them directly on the NCSoft heads. -
Thank you for posting this, Winterminal.
The devs have done a really good job of steering this ship.
I'm willing to keep letting them have a free hand until they ask us for more. -
Quote:Because it is. And it's not passionate - it's destructive, and counter-productive.True and I apologize for not expanding my post a bit. What you did was compare them to children throwing tantrums. I was just jumping on the overall theme of responding to people who are being passionate with something that will not only not change their mind but will just make them angrier.
If people want COH not to die, they need to FIGHT. Yelling at NCsoft on a forum they do not read is slacktivism at its finest. It makes them feel like they DID SOMETHING, they cussed NCsoft out, they vented. But really, they did nothing but fill this forum with more negativity, more defeatism, and makes it less likely that those people - and people who read their posts - will actually do something productive.
It's a very uphill climb from here. It's very steep. The chances are very small. Stuff like this just weighs everyone down and drags the entire tone down, tires people out. It's not just not helpful, it's ANTI-helpful.
So yeah, I have a problem with it. I want this game to be saved. I want everyone with REAL passion for the game to get up, answer the calls to action, be ready to do what needs to be done if the team that's actually in talks with NCsoft NEEDS something from us.
And there are already a bunch of "omg I hate NCsoft!" threads out there. If venting must be done, add to one of them. Don't fill up the whole forum with it. -
-
Quote:I think we all wish that. If for no better reason than the selfishness of "YOU SHUT DOWN THE GAME AS IT WAS ABOUT TO RELEASE THE PATCH WITH EVERYTHING I WANTED IN IT!!!!"Still, with i24 so close, I still think it would of been better to see how it did for the game before shutting down.
Y'know. -
No, please. This has basically become the general discussing-GW2 thread. I'd rather not antagonize the forums by spitting out any more GW2 topics, and I enjoy this thread :P
-
Quote:That isn't what I said, why don't you NOT lump me in with that $hit.SteelRat and Feycat. I personally am also going to miss this game but I'm not torn apart by it. And I also know that the anger and sadness threads are going to accomplish exactly nothing.
But I'm not going to post in them just to try and make people face what I consider to be "reality" because I have a certain thing called empathy. You two (and a few others) are like people who say "Geez kid, crying ain't going to bring your dead dog back. Go down to the pound and get your self a new one."
Telling people they are foolish and wasting their time with their anger and grief doesn't make you cool headed. It just makes you a pancake.
