Quote:It's entirely possible the Doctor is wrong and is just guessing, or going off some obscure bit of 'knowledge' that he's heard before. Maybe last time he did it there was six pieces and he just assumes that's normal.Basically the elements of this extended scene simply don't add up. Once again I'll make the point that the whole idea of mentioning SIX specific fragments was not only completely impossible to support given what the Doctor could see or do but I would submit that the writers of this show didn't even have to toss out ANY specific number of fragments and still retain the believable dramatic tension of the scene. In effect the idea that the Doctor was able to magically count 6 fragments deep inside the kid's gut made the scene "less than cool" for me. *shrugs*
He is after all, only a vet. -
Except no one hates Captain America and he's a Superhuman, or Wasp or Iron Man.
I mean I know the X-Men 'Mutant hate' is often used as a stand in for other prejudices in the real world, but ... we've got comics now that deal with those directly! We don't need the one degree of separation to get it past the censors any more.
The X-Men just work a lot better if there's only Mutants. In fact usually the books tend to assume this as they generally see little interaction with the other Superhuman community. Which is strange, you'd think Captain America would get on TV and say "Mutants are Americans too, lay off people" -
The mutant hating in the Marvel Universe has never made all that much sense, when people like the Fantastic Four are seen as great role-models there's no reason for all Mutants to be as hated as they are, even if Magneto does keep trying to kill people.
I've just never heard a good reason for it, people seem to hate mutants purely because they're mutants and .... that's it, it's a bit rediculous. Maybe it could work if they were in their own universe, but not alongside a whole host of other superheroes who people have no problem with! -
The final member of Birds of Prey is certainly an interesting choice. I'm keen to know how exactly it's going to work. Canary's going to have her work cut out to keep this lot in line.
Wonder Woman is looking like it'll be pretty good too so far, can they have actually got her right for a change?
Batman is still pretty good, liking the new enemy group and how Batman reacts to it.
Supergirl was much better paced this time round, I'll probably keep reading it! -

Quote:It's not that clever either. Goggles restrict your vision and get clouded or mist up easily, especially while running. Face masks make it hard to breathe, again a bad call when you plan to do anything physical. A full on Hazmat suit is incredibly restrictive and impractical to wear.Really, in such a zombie invasion everyone left alive should be wearing long sleeves and pants, as well as protective goggles and something covering their mouth. You would wnat to protect from bites as much as possible as well a the transmission of fluids...
However, having all your characters running around in hazmat suits, or even a poor mans version of one, does not neccessarily make for the best TV.
Tough clothes is a good idea though, leathers especially. Last a long time and not easy to bite through. -
You don't need a gym, it's just nice to have. I personally don't go to the Gym because they're very expensive and I thought it was cheaper to just buy a few bits of equipment for myself. Hand weights and a Running machine basically (For when it's raining outside, which may just kill my mood)
Though you can easily get fit jogging on the spot for half an hour a day. Do you watch TV for half an hour a day? Do it while jogging on the spot. There. Done! You won't get super fit this way, but you will get noticeably healthier! It's worth the effort, recently I've got a bit of a bounce in my step as I just feel lighter and more full of energy. It's a great feeling.
If you want to take it further there's plenty on the internet of how to do exercises without owning a single piece of exercise equipment. Jumping Jacks, Squats, Crunches, it's all there! I got a really simple exercise routine in the morning that only takes ten minutes but it's a good way to start the day. 10 Squats, 10 Push Ups (Use your knees if you can't do full ones), 10 Crunches (Sit ups are bad for your back) 20 Jumping jacks. One minute rest then repeat. Nearly anyone can do that three times and if you stretch a bit once you're done you'll be good to go for the rest of the day.
Yes if your body is completely against even the notion of moving without getting injured there's not much you can do, but for everyone else there's no excuse if they've got the inclination. Get yourself motivated somehow and give it a go!
I'd love to do martial arts but I live in rural Wales and I've just been lazy in finding a place that does it. Maybe once I get rid of my belly I'll look into it more! -
Quote:My Grandfather exercises with half an hour of uphill walking every day. I do it with 45 minutes of uphill walking but at a far faster pace.We are not born equals when it comes to physical fitness, and I can't help but feel jealous whenever I hear those stories of people who neglected their bodies for all their lifes, suddenly wake up and get in shape within months.
For some of us, exercise is a delicate balance between pain and gain. There are people who can work out daily, there are others who have to take great care not to break something in their body each and every time.
It's probably the least dangerous exercise in the world and it works! -
I'm glad 4e was something different because I don't like 3.5. At all.
I do however enjoy 4e and I'm glad for the option to play DnD in a different style while still remaining true to the core of what DnD is. Maybe 5e will be a different system to 3.5 and 4e again, further broadening the appeal. -
Booster Gold is actually a great hero these days who's heart is very much in the right place. Heck he's the leader of JLI now and he's doing a not bad job at it. Even Batman thinks he can do it if given a decent shot.
A vote of confidence from Batman. That doesn't come easy. -
That's actually exactly what Fitocracy is. You've got levels to gain for different exercises and an overall 'level' for yourself. It's a Skinner box for exercise and it's surprising this hasn't been done earlier!

Quote:This doesn't actually happen. There's plenty of films which come out that are very risque and TV has the same thing. Video Games aren't all bland and "Acceptable" either and neither are books. It's all right unless/until "fun" starts getting sacrificed on the altar of "acceptable adult entertainment".
Yes there will be more of the 'safe' comics which don't take risks, but that just means there'll be more money to fund the more adventurous titles. Which can only be a good thing! -

I've got Wii Fit but I only use it to weigh myself every day, this then gets turned into a graph. I love graphs and I love statistics so I am motivating myself to do 45 minutes of uphill walking a day along with eating more responsibly and not drinking sugary drinks just so I don't disturb my graph.
Yes that's probably a bit mental, but it works!
I started doing it about two months ago and have lost a Stone so far. Another stone to go and I'll be at a 'normal' weight for my age. Probably for the first time in around twenty years.
I'd love to get into Fitocracy and try that out, but you need an invite and I don't have one. Can anyone hook me up? Send me a PM if so! -
Quote:Well pessimists do have a problem with seeing the worst side of things. Those comics have the same writers doing the same kind of stories they have been for years now and going mainstream does not equate to dumbing down. Films are watched by millions and while a lot of dross is put out, so is a lot of really good stuff. It'll be the same for comics!A pessimist would say it's more likely to increase the dumbed-downness of our beloved comics. Actually, a real pessimist would glance meaningfully at the New 52 and say that's already happened.
I mean the most successful Superhero films so far are the ones which really haven't dumbed down. Just look at the last Batman, it wasn't trying to be a soft sell at all. -
Does anyone actually enjoy having our hobby seen as kids stuff?
The fact is most mediums are seen as a "Kids thing" or "Silly" at some point. Comic Books and Videogames are slowly joining Television and Films as acceptable adult entertainment and I'm pretty happy for it! -
The Hero arc of this didn't feel all that exciting. Jumping around portals was fun but the rest of it was pretty dull. We were chasing Numina's Dad's skull because it's important and ... we get the skull back and all is well.
Yay.
I've heard the Villain Version is a lot better. -
I liked them all.
Wait am I allowed in this thread? I have to go now right? -
Again that really depends on what "Normal genetic standard" means here. I mean if they've got to be human shaped then sure, why not. But if it means .... you know I've no idea how else you could take this one. The question is too short on details.

If you're talking about a cure for Sociopathy and Psychopathy then yes, I believe we should be willing to cure those. Same as people with Autism or Down's Syndrome. While people can function in the real world just fine with these kinds of problems I don't think they're seen as something particularly desirable. It's difficult for everyone to deal with including the person afflicted.
If you're talking about a cure for 'Evil' then no. Because we've never as a race been able to agree on what Evil is and likely never will. It changes from year to year and culture to culture. What if we had 'cured' the Suffragettes, Malcom X or Rosa Parks for their Antisocial tendencies? At the time it'd have been acceptable but now looking back we'd be horrified. -
Quote:Won't that have a lot of conflicting views? I mean I live in a town where Underage drinking isn't exactly frowned upon, while the larger Society I live in finds that Evil. Which is right? In this scenario, 'evil' is defined by your society, whatever that may be, from your nuclear family up to the world community.
I'm a member of an awful lot of societies and I don't think a single one shares all the views of the others. -

This seems more to be saying "If we could treat existing mental illnesses, should we treat them?"
Which we already do (With varying success). So I guess the answer is yes? It's not really much of a question. -

The reason there's less villain Open RP than Heroes is twofold.
First is that a lot of Villains don't like to be all that open with others. Secrecy and backstabbing abounds and can quickly derail any thread more complicated than "Break stuff and take their things" Heck it can even derail that as players refuse to share information, mislead others and deliberately sabotage the mission. Heroes rarely get this problem and even if someone is being secretive it's rarely deliberately harmful to the mission.
Second and perhaps more important is Villain's just don't have a uniting cause like Heroes do. For a Hero it's simple, you're there to save people and/or stop the bad guys. But for Villains nearly every one comes in with their own bit of baggage. Some are crazy psychopaths, some are slimy buisness types, some are fences, some are mad scientists intent on ruling the world, some are just down on their luck. It's a common theme in comics that when the Villains group up they usually quickly fall apart again due to lack of a uniting vision. They're all in it for selfish reasons after all, even if they've got Doctor Doom/Lex Luthor/Ozymandius like "I will make the world an Utopian paradise" motive to try justify what they do. It's all Ego, they don't know that they're going to make a Utopia any more than the next person. Heck it's implied in Watchmen that Ozymandius killed all those people for nothing, he didn't really know what the future held as was shown with his final talk with Dr Manhattan and his panicked self doubt and it was likely the truth would out with time.
We had a Cold War in real life and it didn't end with nukes. People seem to forget that, even if the Watchmen universe is different it doesn't change the fact no one with a finger on the button really wanted to blow up the world. The grim dark that followed the Watchmen seems to envision worlds with no good people left in it, which is a real shame as it's just silly. This is really a talk for a different topic though.
So yeah, Open Villain threads don't work because Villains don't play nice with each other. Simple enough really. Honestly even VIllain SG's have problems unless they're united in some way and have a strict code of conduct. Military Units, Corporations or Families seem to last the longest while gangs and "Leagues of Evil" tend to fall to bits quickly.
If you want Villainy to go into current threads, make them closed and set some guidelines. A Secret Six like gang could work great, as could a Suicide Squad. But just a "Bring your ray gun and come help" plot will be.. well.. a giant mess.
